What? We have a Wii thread, but not a DS thread? And by DS thread, I don't mean one about playing online games. Sory, but that one has gone far off its original point.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
Any way, here's some screenshots from a game that I have been waiting for info on for months.
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/pics.shtml
Not that big a jump graphicly from RSE/FiLe, but at least they finally showed us something. Most games usually let out a few pics here or there after half a year. It's been over a year. Almost two, I think.
Now, most people will say "pokeymon, LOL!" (and I fully expect someone to, right after this) and go back to the SSBB thread. And that's fine. But remember, Pokemon singlehandedly saved the Gameboy back in the mid 90s in Japan, and really boosted sales in North America in the late 90s. The GBA versions broke records on number of sold copies, and made Nintendo a lot of money. And while the DS isn't hurting from the PSP, it will see yet another boost from these games. It's a simple fact: Pokemon sells.
Back on topic... It seems that the overall graphic design is mostly the same, even though we're dealing with far more powerful hardware from ten years ago. But that's not the biggest issue. The biggest issue is the writting and plot.
How many times can you run into Team "Insert Word Here", beat them up a few times, and then they just give up and go away? Even the last games had the same premise, but slightly improved.
Starfox
Next, we have the new Starfox. It's fucking Starfox! On the DS! You should know about this by now! Jesus christ, if you don't check it out at any of your favorite gaming sites.
Casltevania: Portrait of Rain
Another Castlevania game, another reason to buy a DS. Two characters to play this time, at the same time. More touch-screen usage as well. IGN, 1UP.com, everybody has this game covered.
Kirby DS
Sucks. Haa haa, just kidding. It's supposed to be a lot more like the usual Kirby games. Some have found fault with this, others praise it for returning to the tried-and-true format. Either way, it's more of the same pink-puffball goodness we all know and love.
This time, the touch-screen is used to actvate and combine items inside of Kirby's belly. Sounds sort of weird, yes, but think about combining two different attacks you've sucked up and saved for later. Suddenly, you have more powerful and varied attacks at your disposal.
Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Hands-on
SquarEnix made a street B-ball game for the DS. I'm somewhat surprised by this.
Lunar Knights
Sounds interesting, but I was never able to play either of the GBA games.I like the idea of time and weather effecting gameplay. I wonder if it will run off of the internal DS clock and calender for this, or if it will just randomly generate it.
There are a lot of DS games coming out this year, and most of them are being shown at this years E3. I'm actually happy (seriously, I am smiling as I read the reviews and comments on these titles) about the future of portable gaming. I've always been a huge portable fan, ever since I was given a Gameboy back in 1990 as a gift. All the way up to now, I still have a major preference over consoles (although I do own and play them), and I think I'll end up buyng whatever portable comes out after the DS.
Anyone else notice any DS games that have been overlooked or need more praise?

I'm pretty sure there's no DS thread because it was expected that such information would be passed around in the Nintendo thread. Even though it says "Wii" in the topic, I'm pretty sure it's open for discussion of almost all things Nintendo. In fact, all of those games you mentioned (except the Pokemon pics and Lunar Knights) were already mentioned in there. Of course, I'm sure a mod will come by, and correct me on that. Mouser X out.

True, but since we have a PS3 thread now, there's presidence.
Also, someone should logicly create a 360 and PSP thread, to create equal coverage for all the systems. After all, it's only fair, right?

Hmmm... I see that Elite Beat Agents is the sequal to Ouden... or whatever the hell it's called. That game where a bunch of guys cherrlead you to doing better, by tapping the screen in time with certain beats and lights.
And it's in english, so that means it's coming out here.
I have a friend that was thinking of spending $100 on an imported copy from a store in town. I think he'll enjoy this news (and the price) a lot more.

My thoughts exactly.
Personally, I'm looking forward to Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy III, and then of course all those games that are already out, as soon as I get my DS Lite. Not necessarily in that order.

HAA! Fools! I knew that things might turn out this way! That's why I put a significant portion of my tax refund in a "Buy Video Games Later" fund (namely my saving account which I never use anyway), which I will then use to buy not only a DS Lite, but a Wii as well. And several games for each! HAAAA HAAA HAAAA!
Saving up is hard to do, but not when the government gives you money for filling out some paperwork.
Heck, I almost got Pokemon Sapphire. But then my brother was all...
**dons cap and sleek british teenage male voice**
"oh my God, Pokemon is a baby game. don't get that shit, you're too old for that. getting red and gold is a big mistake i wont forget. if you get it, youll be embaressed out of hell."
**puts cap away**
And so, with the money that I was hoping to use to purchase Sapphire, I bought Sonic Advance 2 instead. Oh well, I'm sure emulation will do suffice.
Considering Diamond and Pearl though, I actually see the graphics to offer a fair improvement from the screenshots I saw for the GBA Pokemon titles. But the gameplay remains to be seen as to make me wonder whether it will still cater for younger gamers or when it will be able to make like Red/Blue and appeal to a wider demograph. Nonetheless, it looks interesting.
Also, as part of the "Let me pimp a game that people haven't thought of" clan, I should point out Crash Boom Bang! as something to look into if party games are more of your fetish.
Yes, yes, I know, there's some of you that aren't very fond of the Crash Bandicoot series for one way or another, and I in particular seemed to fall more skeptical over some of Vivendi's choices for development teams since Naughty Dog moved on, but I actually feel more in for this one. With Dimps (the development team for Sonic Rush) making the game this time as well as adding their own creative contributions on making this worthwhile, I think I'd be seeing into a more promising title in the series for quite a while.
Here's my fingers crossed that it remains that way up to its release this October and/or they don't upset the rabid Crunch fangirl demograph with their render of said character.
Haha, so Magical Vacation wasn't cancelled after all. I was starting to wonder after not hearing anything about it for so long.

Yoshi's Island 2 (please just use the same old graphics from the SNES version, please... that would be so cool), Kirby DS (combining stuff in Crystal Shards was AWESOME, plus the exploration of Superstar... I'm in. Just put in multiplayer and I'm happy), Starfox (KILLSLIPPYKILLSLIPPYKILLSLIPPYTHISISASUBLIMINALME SSAGE), and FFIII FTW.
My DS will be getting much love. Even more reason to get a DS Lite before heading out to college.
Fear not, Yoshi's Island 2 looks very much the same as the original (at least from what I can see anyway). It seems that Baby Mario will actually be useful this time around though, lending assistance with tasks like climbing vines and...using his parasol?! Definitely looking forward to this one. :)
And people are gonna have to turn off voice chat in Starfox DS because all they're going to hear is "DO A BARREL ROLL!"

I'm curious about that pseudo-sequelfor Ouendan. Elite Beat Agents it's called. And I wonder how the localization of Ouendan is coming along..
Am I the only one who doesn't like the way those guys in Chrystal Chronics and FFIII look? I mean, the graphics are alright, but their "artwork" (faces and looks) look odd...
Wasn't Diddy Kong Racing supposed to be a GBA game originally? I remember seeing it listed as one of the early GBA titles when the system first came out.Nah, it's originally a N64 game. There was an attempt to bring a Diddy Kong Pilot to the GBA, but it got changed to Banjo Pilot and sucked.
Reportedly, this port will have custom tracks. If so, I might actually buy it again.
Also very much interested in Elite Beat Agents, Phoenix Wright 2, Yoshi's Island 2 and Starfox DS. Pokemon looks way too much like it's exactly the same game with a new lick of paint.

Yeah, I kept on thinking to myself "if I ever owned an N64, I want it with Diddy Kong Racing". It's good to see it move to the DS, but I'm a little confused on how it's out there. Given that the original was made by Rare, what would you think will be of the use of Banjo, Conker and Tricky considering Rare's owned by Microsoft these days? Just curious, is all.

Although, I love how some people (both here and on other boards I have been checking out), say that they don't like how the characers in FF:CC look, but then rave about how great the man/woman character from FF13 looks.

As with most series that have been around for almost 20 years, they must have felt that it was time to try out something different. Mega Man Battle Net was different, and it worked out pretty good. Why not try something else?
Maybe I'll look into it. I haven't been good at Mega Man for a long time, but this might be the time to try it again.

Microsoft has said in the past they have no problem making games for the GBA or DS, because they have no handheld system of their own. Then everybody started speculating about Halo Advance.

Hah, well I don't know about you but I can't really imagine Helo being transferred to the GBA unless the console is really capable of pushing 3D graphics (not sure if 2D would work, otherwise it'll feel more like Contra than Halo).
Still yeah, I understand that Rare would still be happy to do such handheld projects on the DS. But the sole question still remains; if Banjo Pilot (formerly Donkey Kong Pilot or whatever) was released on the GBA, did they even try to settle with Nintendo to actually keep the original Donkey Kong characters in it?
I just thought that would be an interesting point to raise O.o

But only for handheld, since Microsoft haven't entered that market yet. The only games they've actually produced which have Nintendo based characters were all ports.

What the hell? This topic, on this board, has fallen to the second page? Not on my watch!
I have noticed something sort of odd with the games I have purchased for the DS as of lae. Maybe even since I got it.
I find myself playing a game until I get a new one, and then I don't touch the previous one again for weeks. It's like I instantly become bored with whatever I palyed before.
It went like this:
Kirby's Cursed Canvas. Played it a lot.
Bought Advance Wars. Played it a lot as well. Didn't play KCC for a long time.
Bought Mario Kart. Played it a lot. Didn't touch AW:DS for about two months or so.
Bought Electroplankton at around the same time, sort of fun to fool around with, but really, I haven't done much with it.
Bought Tetris. Played it a lot. Again, didn't play Mario Kart much after that.
Bought New Super Mario Bros. The pattern forms itself.
Am I the only one that this has happened to? I mean, I don't recall going through games like that in my entire life.

I actually just beat it about five minutes ago. :)
It's definitley worth a buy, even though it's not really an amazing game. It took me only about 2-2.5 hours to beat on a straght playthrough, and that's the downside. It's not very challenging. But going for the 100% completion will be the meat of the game for me, considering I skipped two whole worlds. Also, the graphics and music are excellent.

@ The Damned:
You know what now that I think about it I have gone through the same thing. It went like Super Mario 64 DS -> Yoshi Touch & Go -> Kirby Canvas Curse -> Meteos -> Mario Kart DS & Animal Crossing DS(played them at the same time) -> Metroid Prime Hunters and now New Super Mario Bros. The only game I didn't do it with is Sonic Rush, but I don't like that game all that much.
It's weird to think about, but it happens. I doesn't happen with anything else either, not even GBA. Whats up with the DS?
@ Bigfoot:
It's awesome. Easy, but still awesome.

How is the new Mario Bros., guys? I've only seen screenshots because I wanna see what happens when I don't spoil myself with gameplay videos on a game for once :P
I find it a little hard, mostly because one, I'm not really a platform playing kind of guy, and two, I find some of the game mechanics sort of unfair. Like those giant, flopping mushrooms you can ride on in world 3. I hate those. Everytime I try to stay on one, I end up falling off of it.
Which is odd, because in my youth, I could totally do the old Mega Man games in only a few lives.
Man, I must be getting old.
Crabsmasher, same here. I played every GBA game I had to the fullest, and went back and played them a lot, even after I had new games.
Maybe it's just some sort of burn-out in the making. People get tired of their interests from time to time.

I guess I really don't go back to any of my old DS games other than Daigassou Band Bros, but I never really replayed games. The only game I have replayed lately was Tales of Symphonia. I only have like 3 GBA games too. I just recently beat Fire Emblem:Sacred Stones, and I doubt I'll replay the game.... I just got the GC one.

I've lost interest in some of my DS games, but I still go back and play a lot of them. I still play Mario Kart a lot, I've played through Canvas Curse a couple times, Warioware occasionally, I'm playing through Mario and Luigi: PiT again, and Ossu, Tatake, Ouendan! gets better every time I play it. The only games I've really gotten into though since the DS's launch are Super Mario 64 DS and Mario Kart. Both of which I've put 80+ hours into.

It seems like the same pattern for me too, actually - the only ones I play regularly and keep coming back to are the ones I have that support wifi.
Incidentally, on a totally different subject, am I the only one looking forward to this Konductra?
Innovative and slick puzzle game coming to DS with wifi support. Looks interesting - it took a long time to get a publisher.

Actually, Elite Beat Angels is more of a sequal than a localization. Same idea, but not the same game.
But Ossu, Tatake, Ouendan! is coming out here. It was one the list of games at E3.

Guys there's a Mega Man ZX trailer at gamespot...
http://www.gamespot.com/ds/action/megamanzx/media.html
I have NEVER once seen a female Megaman.
Watch Captain N: The Gamemaster then. You say that like it's a bad thing...
Though, from what I've heard, it probably is... Mouser X out.
It is. Considering they had an ugly GREEN midget Megaman to begin with(With a visor too for some fucked up reason), and their form of a female Megaman was pink with blonde hair.
Also, there's no need to sign your posts. That's what your signature's for.
Hmm...pics?
Yeah, http://media.ds.ign.com/media/794/794195/imgs_1.html. It looks like it'll shape up to be a decent Megaman game IMO. It has its own unique features, like the whole "biometal" things. Supposedly the story will be told via voiceacting and anime clips (which is nice in a way, so there's hopefully no stupid slideshow "animations" like in Megaman X5). But hell, a side-scrolling Megaman game is always welcome to me, just because I've been a fan of the gameplay since the orignal MM game came out.
Also, I'm really interested in Contact. I read about it in Nintendo Power, but for some reason they didn't seem to have anything on it on ign. It sounds like an innovative RPG, created by Grasshopper (the studio that made Killer 7) and Atlus (the studio that made Trauma Center).
One other game I'm looking forward to is Final Fantasy 3. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the more recent FF games (ESPECIALLY FF12), but I loved FF1, 2, and 4 for the GBA and FF3 looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun too. Too bad there wasn't all that much news about it at E3 :(.

I have to, especially Yoshi Touch & Go. I only bought it because I had money and I wanted a DS game... it doesn't entertain me at all anymore. Other than that I have been pretty happy with the DS games I have purchased and some of them I am surprised that I have been so satisfied. Take Meteos for example. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the game, and I had friends who had played it but didn't like it. But I got it anyway and now I love it.

I dunno about the rest of you but I'm personally looking really forward to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I know a lot of people bitched about the cell-shaded art style, but I still liked Wind Waker (oh, AND despite the damn sailing). I guess the nice thing about PH is that it's gonna cut out the part of the sailing that made it bad: navigation. Just plotting the points on the map will streamline and make it not feel like work IMO :P. At any rate though, I'm gonna be picking up that title since it just looks like fun.

To comment on some of these titles:
 Final Fantasy 3: I played it at E3, and while the graphics are very nice, I was very dismayed that the battle system hasn't been touched during the revamping. It's still the classic, menu-based watch-attack-selection battle system from the original game. Blah. So boring.
 Contact: This game looks good. It's very weird (what do you expect from Grasshopper?). Sometimes the game looks a lot like Earthbound, and then sometimes the game looks a lot like a modern 3D DS game.
 Mega Man ZX: While the concept may not look very good, the gameplay in this game is superb. It's looking to return the Mega Man franchise to the grace it once held in the X series. Mega Man fans should be very happy once this game comes out. I full plan on getting it.
And ones that nobody has commented on yet:
 Deep Labyrinth (http://ds.ign.com/articles/708/708467p1.html)- Masato Katou (Chrono Trigger scenarist) and Yasunori Mitsuda are reunited again! This game, as IGN points out, is similar to King's Field. it's a first-person action RPG that uses the touch screen for attacking, blocking, and even spell-casting. It looks good; didn't get a chance to play it at E3, but I saw a lot of gameplay.
 Touch Detective (http://ds.ign.com/articles/708/708468p1.html)- The cutest game ever. It's an adventure/mystery game that uses the touch screen for exploration and clue-gathering.
 Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (http://ds.ign.com/articles/708/708268p1.html)- From the makers of Trace memory comes another adventure game with an awesome art style. Notice from the screens (which I urge you to look at; they are sweet), you hold your DS sideways to play the game, like you would hold a book. This is my most anticipated DS title of the year.

I was also skeptical of controlling Kirby with a touch screen, and that worked out wonderfully. And, remember, Nintendo has never produced a bad Zelda game. I still stand by that statement, though some 'tards bash Wind Waker.

I'm getting frustrated at a friend of mine who insists that the New Super Mario Bros. shouldn't have been a DS title. He says portable games are a waste and that Nintendo should have launched it as a Cube title.
Personally, I feel NSMB is a perfect fit for the DS. And besides, the handheld market is more open to side scrollers, as people in general (myself not included) don't want to pay 50 bucks for a 2D game anymore, no matter how fun it is.
And, if we did things that way, there'd never be any good handheld games, as games like Metroid Fusion, Pokemon, and Minish Cap would have been put on consoles and not on handhelds.

Kirby: Canvas Curse was not a traditional Kirby game meaning they could build the game in a way that fits the touch screen. They could make a new style of gameplay without ruining the game because it wasn't going to be traditional. Phantom Hourglass is going to be a traditional Zelda game, meaning they have to try and make the touch screen fit a preset style of gameplay and make sure not to ruin the gameplay.
One of the reasons I am skeptical is because the video's I have watched have just made it seem kind of difficult to do. But that doesn't mean that it's going to end up that way because a. the player's could just suck or b. the controls will be fixed by release.
I don't want crappy controls to ruin a Zelda game.

I really liked Wind Waker's conrtols. The fixed "free" camera controlled by the C stick EASILY beats out Super Mario 64-style and Sonic Adventure-style cameras. And if you wanted a camera whose angle followed you, you could just hit L and it would follow you.
I don't see the Wiimote controlling a Zelda game as snoothly or gracefully, though it will certainly be a different style.
Personally I hope that Twilight Princess will allow for both control styles when played on a Wii. I see no reason for it not to.

Ugh, I misposted that in this thread instead of the wii thread.
Some there speculated that to distinguish Wii TP from Cube TP (They are completely separate versions) they might drop the classic control. I doubt they would though.
Even so, you can only hold one controller at once and if that controller's a wiimote I hope the control and camera is as smooth and intuitive as Wind Waker is.
As far as Phantom Hourglass, I certainly hope the camera is better than the abysmal camera in Super Mario 64 DS.

It's definiately different. Moving is pretty easy; you just touch the screen where you want link to walk, and it's really reponsive, so as soon as you lift up, he stops. Atttacking is done by making slash motions on the touch screen towards the enemies you're fighting.
The demo was only a small area, and the multiplayer mode, but I think the game looks promising. The camera angle is a lot like LttP or Minish Cap, only zoomed in more so Link is larger on screen.

Towards the enemy? But woulden't that disrupt walking? I mean you'd be swiping across the screen, then Link would go up and down like crazy right? Sounds wierd, but I guess you have to play it to get it, like canvas curse...

Wow, I just got NSMB for myself, and I can honestly say, I'm stunned.
I figured it'd turn out as one of two things:
1: Deviate so far from the formula that it doesn't feel like Mario and therefor be incredibly disappointing
or 2: Feel like classic Mario, but only because it seems like one big rehash.
It's neither. It honestly retains the Mario feel while keeping it fresh. It's like I'm playing in the NES/SNES era all over again. Best 35 dollars I've spent in a long time :D

NSMB freaking rocks, period. It's the first game I've ever gotten my non-gamer friend to play, and he loved it. It's exactly like Vyse said: it feels like Mario without feeling stagnant. 1Up for you, Nintendo (they even kept stuff like the "run over the top of level 1-2" and "jump on the koopa shell on the pyramid blocks to get infinite 1Up's").

Heh, just keep at it. :) Before I bought it, I'd been playing SMB3, SMW, and Yoshi's Island on my DS, so I had the controls down really quickly. I also changed the control scheme to to the AB style instead of the YB style to match the GBA configuration.
I don't know about you, but I'm not really too sure on getting that game. I know that it's a new adventure for Mario and his first 2D sidescroller in quite a while, which I know I have come to respect when it comes to the wishes of the fans. However, I don't know about you but every Mario game of this type sounds like the same; go through the Mushroom kingdom, use powerups to make yourself big/shoot stuff/fly/be invincible etc, fight koopa/shy guy driven enemies, ride the occasional Yoshi, tackle ghost houses, climb pipes, collect lots of coins and eventually rescue Princess Peach from Bowser.
I'm not saying it's bad, but I just want to see a DS Mario title (other than Kart DS/Superstar Saga >.>) that deviates from this tiring format, if you know what I mean.

Is there a way for them to do that outside that aspect of the game, like pressing Z or R twice when you get near them? :)!!

I think the whole point is that we haven't had a good one of these in over a decade.
Sure, if we were getting them every year like some series it'd be incredibly annoying, but this only exists because fans have been waiting for years on end for more.
Still, if you really don't want to risk it if the same formula will annoy you, perhaps you should hold out till Yoshi's Island 2? I figure it changed up the Mario formula enough that the sequal should be plenty entertaining. :D

Well, the whole hoople comes from the fact that the formula is fun. Everytime. This that formula, reinvented. With new levels and powerups, it's a new package to the formula. If you didn't like it at first, it probably won't appeal to you now. But it's been 15 years since an original one. So this ends up being a nose punch of nostalgia. Awesome.

I've got a question for you - in watching three NSMB gameplay movies on IGN, I heard three slightly different versions of the exact same song. Is that a problem? Is the music really annoying like that because much of it is the same? Or was it just chance that those three movies happened to have those and there's actually quite a bit more music than I've heard?

The game is great, but the music is pretty much shit. Atleast compared to the masterpiece of past Mario games' Koji Kondo compositions.
On second thought, the music is shit even taking out the comparison. Nintendo's DS games have been great, but musically, they have been lacking IMO. MK:DS pretty much had some of the worst sound/music design for the series and NSMB's music is at times grating. I turn the music off and play MP3s instead.

I agree, except that's a Sega game. I was talking about the musical efforts in Nintendo's games as of late. They seemingly don't even know how to remix old tunes right.
But I think it all makes sense since Nintendo is seemingly using new composing talent. Though I think I'm giving them too much credit for calling them 'talents'.

From the more recent, clearer screenshots that have surfaced, it would seem that both the background/terrain AND the characters are 3D. Too bad the battles are still 2D and kind of bland.
Here's hoping they d something with the story to make it more interesting. Oh yay, Team "Insert Word Here" is trying to capture your pokemon/start a fire/take over the town/make long-distance calls on your phone! Awesome!

And why not market a video game system to homosexuals? Their money is just as money as the next. Or are you some sort of anti-fag fag that hates fags? Hmmm? Are you?

Not me. DS Lite is nice and all, but I actually like my DS, and I'm not interested in spending money again for something that's not really going to provide much of a benefit. I'll save my money for a Wii and possibly a 360 or something. Or maybe just some more DS games (PHOENIX WRIGHT 2 OMG)

I might, considering I have some autographs on the front of my current DS from E3, and I like the way the buttons feel a whole lot better. We'll see. My PS2 seems about ready to die on me after 5 years, so I may need to replace that with a PStwo.

Be aware that if you have any games you play through wifi, you'll lose all yoru stats and have to reregister to get a new friend code as the DS binds itself to online-capable games.
if you keep the old one, you can actually transfer all the data to the Lite, but then you won't get the 50 bucks off, seeing as how you'd have to buy it.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I considered against buying the Lite. It doesn't really bother me now since I don't play much wi-fi anyway, and I don't really care about ratings or win-loss records so it'll be okay, I guess.

You know, that that I've read a bit about Magical Vacation, I'm very intrigued. Seems like the DS is gonna have a variety of good RPGs coming out soon.
NSMB came earlier this week. I've been enjoying it a lot but I have two complaints: The music isn't varied, I'm sick of hearing the "ahh ahh!" song over and over again; and some of the earlier course designs (like up to world 5) are pretty straight forward and generally not fun. They feel like the same old stuff repeated. Worlds 6 and 7 are fun so far, with the ledges and that giant worm course.
The overall game is pretty good, and the controls are awesome, so is the ability to retain a mega or mini mushroom for later. I'm really enjoying the multiplayer, it provides some frenetic brawls in Mario vs. Luigi mode (OH NOES HE GOT TEH MEGA MUSHROOM!!) and playing Wanted! with 2 players is also great.
Overall awesome game, with minor flaws in difficulty and course design.

I was thinking about it. My DS has a single stuck pixel, as well as some sort of dust or crud that moves around underneath the coverplate, on the top screen. And the little gap that is there when you colse the system leaves little bits of dust and whatnot to float around inside when you carry it in your pocket. Not a major concern, but it does exist.
IOn the other hand, I've only had mine for less than ayear, it still works fine, and I'm somewhat attached to it. The one pixel is only noticable when certain colors are displayed, and the minor dust scratches on the screens aren't visable when you play.
Maybe towards the end of the year, when certain games come out, and when more colors are offered, I'll pick on up.

Figures...aw well, I dont regret it, i need some fun right now, im not sure how much longer i could wait. eheheh
Mmm, so i actulally got a DS today. I dunno why, I guess I figured its time i stopped being such and idiot and actually spend money for a change. (though for some reason I always feel guilty afterwards ;_; )
It cost a pretty penny I suppose, but so far I like it. (kind of)
MarioKart and Mario&Luigi are both great games, but seriously, after 5 minutes of metroid i was like WTF? I cant really work that game, because it makes Samus jump everytime i even slightly touch the screen. I'm thinking about trading it back if i still can, but ugh, maybe i should keep trying.. Do you get used to it easy? or is it just a bad, baaad game?
Maybe i gave up too soon, but wow, it just doesnt feel good, but there arnt many other good games out here just yet.
Pity. If you would have waited about two weeks, the DS Lite is coming out June 11th with a brighter screen.
Set Metroid Prime Hunters to Stylus mode, and keep your stylus on the screen at all times until you want to jump.
Also, I'd highly recommend New Super Mario Bros. Awesome game.

Yes, on any public hotspot you can use the WiFi connection. The same is also true if you buy the adapter or have a wireless internet router.

The hardest end game mario boss I'd say is probably the Mario 64 if you can't time throwing bowser right.

I agree with that, and I'll add The final boss from Yoshi's Island on SNES, which was, compared to others , kinda hard. Whereas the levels were less hard than the NES mario games (in my opinion anyway)

But yeah, NSMB really isn't a difficult game at all. It's probably the easiest Mario game yet (I'm not going to count Super Princess Peach since it was such an abomination)

Dunno if you heard, but the Nintendo DS Lite release date was broken (http://www.planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=11676). I was at Target earlier today (in Huntsville, AL), and they had them up for sale. I didn't buy one, but I'm considering going back tonight.
I already have Feel the Magic (found it for $8 somewhere), but I'm thinking I'll want to get a WiFi game to go with the DS Lite. Which one would you guys suggest? (I'd get New SMB even though it's not WiFi, but my brother got it recently, so I've already played through a lot of it on his copy.)

Metroid Prime: Hunters is *probably* the best WiFi game there is right now. Tetris and Mario Kart are both very good choices, but somewhat more limited than Hunters.
So i picked up my DS lite today, stupid target breaking the street date. It's pretty nifty, except i didn't expect the outside to be so shiney.. it's like the PSP sort of, but alot less fingerprint-ey. Dunno if this is right thread since it's not exactly a game, but i didn't feel like making another DS thread with one active. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/shaotaku/DStarget.jpg

I don't own a DS yet, but when I went in to pre-order my DS Lite at EB yesterday, there was a pamphlet that offered to trade in your old DS for a Lite at only 100 CAD (versus the regular price of 150 CAD). So I think about 1/3 off the price is probably what you can expect.

I'm fine with the old DS design, the only qualms I have with it is the screen brightness, the small cracks allowing dirt in when it's closed and it's size.
I also rather like the original shape - the Lite design seems a little bland to me. Also the GBA gamepak stick out on the lite, which I definitively don't like as I either have a GBA game or a M3 cart in there pretty much all the time (And the M3 already sticks out somewhat).

Now the only question is do I design a PRC skin, or an Umihara Kawase skin?

If I can find anywhere that will take my DS for at least $100, I'll buy the Lite. I've always been a fan, sometimes obsessively, with the "squishy" buttons of the original GBA. The SP and the DS have these "clicky", cell-phone like buttons that hurt my thumb after awhile. The Lite has the old style buttons. Plus it's smaller, brighter, lighter, and I can start fresh with a new bottom screen which I'll take better care of by using those screen protector sheets. Plus, the L button on my old DS is giving out, so it would be nice to have that fixed. Plus, I like the design of the Lite.
All that for 30 bucks sounds like a good deal to me.
If I'm going to play the DS as excessively as I do, I might as well have the best DS I can.
If I can find anywhere that will take my DS for at least $100
Good luck.

For the screens, I like to use lens cloths like these:
http://img430.imageshack.us/img430/7706/zeiss250x2666ba.jpg
They're made for use on glasses and camera lenses, but work great on the DS screens and PC monitors.
As far as the rest of the DS goes, I'd use a moist cloth to wipe off anything.

Not to be a jerk or question the modders' authority or anything, but I really think this stuff would've been better left in the other thread. It could've been expanded to include other sections, and it's just going to clutter this thread with a bunch of pictures.

Some people are still selling them second hand in the UK for £70 which is about $130, although most don't go for that high. I've no idea what it'd be like in the US though. Considering the retail price of the lite in the US is about 25% cheaper than here, then I'd reckon you could probably get between $90-100 for your DS if it's in good condition.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:
The first MMORPG for Nintendo DS, Maple Story (http://english.etnews.co.kr/news/detail.html?id=200605120008).
About time, I called this almost a year ago. I KNEW this game would be perfect for DS. I remember speculating about how you could chat, you could have user-progammable buttons for common words you say so you don't have to type every single thing with an on screen keyboard. But this is rumored to have a speech-to-text function. I'm not sure how well that would work out. It would probably work best you could use it in conjunction with an on-screen keyboard, because speech-to-text is never perfect. Maybe the keyboard could have 2 backspace-type buttons. One backspace is for going back a character (obviously), and the other is to clear the previous word typed, in case the speech-to-text got the word completely wrong. Then you could either attempt to say it again, or hand-type it.

Nexon ties up with Nintendo
Friday, May 12, 2006 By Lee Jin-ho
Online game 'Maple Story' of Nexon which hits 14 billion won monthly sale across the world will be made for a mobile game device 'Nintendo DS'. In a talk with the Electric Times in LA Convention Center, US, on Wednesday as a local time, David Lee CEO of Nexon Japan implied that the project of developing 'Maple Story' for Nintendo DS is processing, saying "We interested in characteristics and strategy of contents of Nintendo and decided to develop games for it, and we agreed on a large part of the plan with Nintendo."

Well, if you already have speech...what's the point of the text? :P Well, since this is a MMORPG, keyword "massive," there would be too much talking to hear anything, escpecially in a place like a town, where usually at least 30 people or so are talking at the same time. But that's a great idea for when having a private conversation with someone.
Hey, that's a really good idea, because that's where all the major talking usually happens. Usually all you need public speech for is stuff like advertising items or something. When you find someone advertising something you want, you can instantly start a private conversation with them, and boom! You didn't have to type a thing.

Yeah, that's why I quit playing it before. It is really fun to start up and get to around level 10, but then you realize there's no goal other than to level up, and you're wasting alot of time. Hopefully they will make some changes in the DS version. If not, it will at least be fun to start up again, and then after that I'm going to set a time limit for how much I play this game per day. Probably one hour. When I played before, I spent a few days doing nothing but Maple Story after school, and then I felt like I completely wasted those days. So this way I will not spend too much time on it, and hopefully the game will stay fresh longer.
And Maple Story has some very good music, in my opinion. I havn't played in almost a year, but I still get a couple of the songs stuck in my head from time to time. The title song, and the theme from Kerring City.

Spectrobes? (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2729) I dunno what to make out of this game.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2802) Looks like a pretty cool mystery game or something.
Kirby DS (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2789) This looks like any other Kirby platformer, fun :D
Lunar Knights (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2735) Looks like that game Boktai for GBA. Looks like it might be a good title.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2699) I know everyone's probably seen this, but I'm be slow in the scene lately :P This game looks beautiful.
Micro Machines V4 (http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2795) Multiplayer looks like it might be the only enjoyable thing about this game.
