Ooooook.
Sorry Pi, I've been working a lot lately, so my production has taken a very slow halt. I'll try and get something to you by Thursday, when I'm off.

I'm making a piano-heavy song (as piano is probably the best sounding synth I got, and I love pianos even though I'm a drummer) but I haven't been able to do much of anything with homework and senior projects bogging me down.

Wait, you had Saturos and Menardi's theme, right?
If so...then screw Dr. Ro-fuck-head. I want their theme. xD

I'm trying really hard on this, even with things getting in my way. But I don't know if it'll be up to what you want because it is my first mix and all... Of course, I'm not going to give up on it, because even if I get rejected hopefully someone can tell me how to make my mixes better.
EDIT: Gah... this song has sooooo many notes in it. I can't even keep up with the original song well enough to figure out which note is which. I might pick a different song at this rate...
EDIT 0.0.2: Changing song. I can't do this one, not by ear anyway. A little too fast for me. I'll remix one of these songs, definitely, because I know (and like) them better:
Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess
Gensokyo Millenium ~ History of the Moon
Both from the same game as the other song (Touhou 8: Imperishable Night) but much easier to remix because the songs don't become impossible to follow 10 seconds after they start. :P
I'll probably do Lunatic Princess because I think it sounds better on a plain old piano sound.

School is kicking my ass and my mix isn't exactly noteworthy. Or done, for that matter. In fact, I seem to have hit yet another remixer's block or something, and I haven't worked on it for ages.
Eh... The more I think about it, just giving up sounds more appealing, but I hate doing that :?

I know I've been absent for a while here, so let me apologize. But I come back and... hey, stickied! Whats up with that?
...Anyway, just give me a day or two to get everything done that I should have over the past week. Sorry 'bout any inconveniences.
But... something said on the Minibosses' forum got me thinking. Am I as project leader being to pretentious? I mean, I think I might be getting ahead of myself with this. The boss motif isn't a half-bad idea, but everything else might be pushing it. I don't want to sound too negative, but all the extra ideas are probably better left until later, if at all. I don't know what to do here anymore. We're flopping around, half the mixers that sign up end up getting kicked off, it's nuts, it really is. Don't take this the wrong way, everyone. Might sound like a sign-off, but it's not. I mean, is it really so hard to find reliable artists? I keep hearing "Cool, boss themed album. Nice idea, there", but does no one want to jump on? It seems more like "Let's jump ship, before it gets worse", more like it.
No offense meant to those of you sticking around, but let's pull things together here. I can't be the only one noticing it, I'm just going to jump out and be the first to say it. If we don't clean up, we're going to fail.
...Another thing. Why does it seem like a deadline is the only way to motivate people? (No offense to those of you that actually do what you said you'd do. Nice update there, too, Avaris. After I make a few comments on that, and some last-minute tweaking, it might be submissions-worthy.) I know I'm going to get those of you that say Summer's coming, and everyone will have free time, and I acknowledge that. But still...
In short, we need reliable artists. I really want to wait until summer to see if everyone shows back up, but I know if they haven't showed around lately, it's not like most of them are going to come back. For the most part, it's not going to happen. I'm just not sure what to do. We need artists. We can't get artists. And again, no offense to anyone, but if you've never mixed before, odds are you aren't going to end up with anything project-worthy on your first try.
As far as the tracks themselves go, I'd hate to change things up again, but here 'goes...
"A track can contain any track from any game in a series, as long as the theme of the boss specified makes up the majority of the track"
I can't see that making things harder for anyone, right? Look... I've said what we need to do. Now let's try to do it, ok?

Thanks Pi. Fishy is gonna lay down some sweets guitar on the mix. He has exams coming up and other shite so it might be awhile till we can get a fully finished version done wth guitars. In the meantime anyone is free to make comments about the song. Some parts will will be replaced or layered in with guitars.
I def think it's a good idea to make the proj open to any remixer doin any boss theme.

Yea, this project is about the least active project I'm on but I still think it suffers from exam-time. But, if you look at the Summoning of Spirits project for instance, you'll see that every project has this sort of problems. Fact is, we need some more artists (and perhaps some more experience) in this crew.
I think when a few mixes are ready (avaris', mine, there are other that are close to being done with the arrangement), we could use some for promotional stuff? Just throwing ideas here. And I'll make some more GIFs (I know I should've done that ages ago), who knows it might help

A few questions and suggestions. When a remixer wants to remix a song thats taken, why not have the two duel over it.This way if one of them drops the song or the remixer gets dropped, you still have another remixer working on the same song?
Also, has anyone considderred doing a rock style remix of the sonic one boss theme, sinse all the sonic 3 boss themes were remixed in rock already(except for the 1st act s&k boss theme)?

1) 2 Remixers haven't wanted to take the same song yet
2) I would love some sonic 1 boss theme action, but thats up to pocketman. Final Boss Battle was easily the best song in the Sonic 1 for me.

Gah, signing in again, after a LONG time. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but school was kicking my ass ( as Avaris would put it). I still have my Sephiroth WIP lying around, but I think I MIGHT have taken a bit of a too ambitious path with it, so I'll have to start working on it soon again ( That is, if no-one else has applied to mix the song during my absence)
Anyway, good to be back :D

Jeez, this sucks and rocks at the same time...
I just moved across town, and I don't even have a phone line hooked up yet. None of my neighbors have wifi, either. I'm posting this from my library, to say, for the next week or so, I still won't be around.
The good part? High-Speed Internet. Oh yeah. ...In a week or so... *Cough*
Anyway, what I would want from my co-coordinators, who both have to learn to share their temporary status as a duo, try and work out contacting The Minibosses, The Advantage, The NESkimos, MegaDriver.... bla bla bla... whoever else, too. Too many VG music cover bands to count. I haven't listened to most of them, though. I mean, if we're looking for someone to get on the project... might as well go for the big dogs. No point in not trying.
Maybe the public forums themselves weren't the best place to post that... oh well...
Too bad no one from the minibosses' forums ever really got back to me.
Anyway, point is, I don't really know how to get home from the library yet, and I'm walking... so... I've got an hour ahead of me to find my way around town, I guess. But for the most part, I can't do this every day. See everyone in a week or so!

At this point I think I'll just do the right thing and officially drop from this project. Sorry I couldn't finish a whole track for you guys. I really haven't felt the love or motivation for this project (when you working for free YES it's important). It's complicated, but I think not being listed on the project or getting any feedback whatsoever for my mix (the right one) from leadership speaks for itself. Call me a whiner if you want, it'll just prove my point. Hope to return to ocr eventually. Again, my apologies and best wishes on the album.

Aww, man. Now I feel terrible. I know I should be doing more with my own project. I don't want to provideo some bogus excuse, and say I need to spend more time on my own project. I will now. It's summer, I have no real excuse at this point.
Sorry to hear that you are dropping, really. I think it'd be best if I make my next few posts as revies on the private forums. Give me some time to listen them over, everything should be commented on by the weekend. Maybe sooner.
Shinny- That'd be good. Although I don't think it should be called those damn s and z blocks... they're never really much of a problem. Maybe "Line 20", or whatever the highest level of speed is in a regular tetris game...
CHIPP - See the first page, it explains everything. And the thread's title. Yes we are still looking for help. If you have anything you've already done, PM it to me or one of the other Coordinators of this project. WHO I CAN SAY HAVE ALSO NOT BEEN SHOWING AROUND AS MUCH AS THEY SHOULD... but have done a great job over at the private forums while I've been slacking around more than I should be. But really, if you don't have anything to show us, I wouldn't waste your time, no offense meant. We really have to crack down on incoming mixers. No offense, again, meant to anyone. It's risky business letting someone in when they don't have too much to work off of.
Anorak - That sounds great. The contacts, that is. Hello Kitty... I don't remember putting that up on the front page, but I have been a little more lazy with it than I should be...

Yeeaaaah.... It's Summer isn't it? Where's the promised activity? I really, really wish I bothered to learn how to mix before I went and started the project. Not that I regret the project, of course. I like knowing that even though I can't directly participate, I'm leading a potentially great deal here.
Question - This project... when I started it, obviously I was to ambitious, too pretentious. Maybe the whole artistic thing is too much. The only thing to worry about is the cover, and even that is nothing, paling in comparison to the project itself. Not saying I regret anything. Just need to get that offa my chest. I've been trying to be more realistic. Don't think I'm only speaking up now because I only realize it now. I speak up now because I have the time to put it into words, and to think about it. Go ahead. Air grievances. It'd be a healthy thing.
...So, Anorak, hear from anyone yet? Send me a list of who you have and haven't contacted yet; I'll cover the rest. Now I feel bad at CAPS yelling at you... And where the hell is Kanjika? Haven't even seen him on AIM...
Off topic a moment... who's been keeping up with the Smash Bros updates? The music is amazing. The bass a short while into the OoT medley is mesmerizing. If Zelda was Pikmin, but it was still Zelda, the music might sound something like that bass. Completely captivating. And the Ridley one? What is there to say? Emotional, and expresses power, anxiety... do I really have to quote Sakurai? It's downright fierce!
Sorry, offtopic... needed to deviate from the conversation for a moment there...
Thoughts? I need to start taking this much more seriously. I feel like I've not been doing what I should.

So...
It's Summer. It's been summer for awhile. And I don't like sending out mass-emails. See, you'd think its just copy/paste, but I kow I'm going to have to personalize each one. OK, this artist, the first part sounds great, but after a minute, it's all too repetitive. Or this artist, It's shaping up nicely, but if you used his theme from this game after the guitar comes in the second time, that'd sound great.
I dunno 'bout you, but I've got it set up so that this thread is 27 pages long right now. Page 26/27 is full of hope right now. People coming back, updates, hey, that's great! I think it's motivation. I'm working on some 3D stuff, for example. Nothing major. A class from High School last year (Rhino3D), and the year before that (Maya/Bryce, if you're interested in knowing), along with almost every lunch, and more hours at home than I can imagine. But I thought, when Summer comes along, I'll have so much free time, that I'll get more work done in two months than I have in the past two years.
But there are days where I don't do anything at all. Just lay around, maybe take a walk around town. Spend an hour or two at the library. Grab some grub at the deli. Come home, open a few tabs on firefox, and F5 'till something interesting comes along (Actually, I wish most days were this interesting. Most of the time, I'm sleeping 'till 1, then I'm lounging around enjoying my first summer without camp/a job. Take my word for it, this is the best summer everis my greatest summer ever).
It's hard to self-motivate. Or to listen to someone else motivating you. I had another point to make besides "work harder", but I forgot what it was. It was a real good point, too...
Something tells me I'm gonna be spending quite a awhile on these PMs...
...Last note? As nerdy as it sounds, watching every single Star Trek movie in a row is extremely satisfying. You have no idea. (I hope that post didn't drive anyone away...)

The only Star Trek related programming I'll watch is that one show with the two Rikers where they both go at it. That one was totally awesome.
Yes, the main problem I'm having right now is motivation too. I'm sort of in the opposite situation though. I work from 9-6, and factoring in commutes and meals I sit down in front of my computer to write by seven. But after a long day at work, where I ALSO stare at a computer, I'm just toasted mentally. I just pluck around at my keyboard, wondering how a happy hardcore remix of American Patrol would sound.
The people who wrote the very songs we're mixing didn't have the liberty to stop just because they felt like it. We're lucky to say that we do have this luxury, but are we taking too much advantage of it? I am. I've been struggling with this track for a while now, and need to pull it together. And honestly, finishing up what we're doing is in everyone's best interests. I mean, who doesn't want to be done? Seeing some new activity is good -but getting it back up to old levels, where people are constantly updating their tracks and critiquing others would be really wonderful to see.
Coincidentally, happy one year aniversary everyone!

Oh, wow. I didn't even notice it pass by. I could've sworn I first posted sometime in mid-August. I could make a lot of jokes about all the progress we've made, but we really have. As far as the guidelines, rules, and goals, things have really been focused. But then, WOW, right? 'cause that's all the project is about, right? As long as we've got rules, it's OK. I'd like to take part but I have to get complete FL7. I'd have wanted to take K.Rool theme to remix.
If it won't be taken, I could consider to join the project if it's possible.

Oh, you were looking at the old forums. Nobody uses those anymore so a bunch of spambots hang out there now. We need to archive the helpful posts and delete that place now that we have a better forum. (so much to do...)
Anyway, if you want to join the project you'll need to show us what you can do. Do you have a demo track we can listen to? If you do you can PM it to Pi/Kanjika or myself and we'll evaluate it. Or you can post in it the thread, if that's easier.

Well, I'd have one but it's old. I'd like to remake it with complete FL7 program. I need to buy it as possible. Before I used FL6 demo, now I tried FL7 demo but it's too limited.
Thanks for the feedback anyway. If I come up with something I'll surely PM you or post the WIP here.

Look Pi, I know things havent been flowing with this project, but you;re suppoed to be the motivating guy or the one that goes behind everyone's asses to hand in their WIPs. I think play time is over for a while, but being depressed about it isn't going to help.
We seriously need to look for another method to keep/get this project running

Since I need some time to get full version of FL7, I could work with basal FX and trying something. I'd try to take King K.Rool Remix (Donkey Kong Country).
But question: which K.Rool theme from DKC series? 1-2-3 or 64 or even all in one medley?
I work better with medleys
May I post the WIP here or PM anybody of the Project?

I think play time is over for a while, but being depressed about it isn't going to help.
I'm not depressed, I'm frustrated, which I've been trying hard to avoid. And the only way I can think of getting anyone else interested in the project is going back to the community board. I wouldn't mind it, but then who's gonna join? We got only so many people interested back then. I know I'm supposed to be motivating, but there's no point when I send a PM to someone, and don't get anything back! Not "I'm dropping", not "I'll be late". And you know what? It's not even like they're off of OCR. There they are, posting in other threads, so they're clearly still around.
I don't want to come off as flying off the handle here, because I'm not. It's not a breakdown, or the snapping point. But, seriously, I think going back to community's a great idea, because right now it seems to be our only one.
Tyrog - If you want to join, we'll need something to gauge you by. It's usually not worth it to take someone without any skill, because a project needs to know that it's members can preform with the necessary skill level. That's not always true, and not any kind of indication on your behalf, but it's necessary.
EDIT - Oh, uh, whichever you choose. If you don't want everyone to hear it, just PM it to me.

Well, to be fair, Friday isn't over yet. But...we do need to do something different, or else we'll be buried under the ever increasing amount of new projects that seem to start so often. If we don't discuss our options the project will continue to flounder, as mixers get bored with us and wander off to join "The Pimp Daddy Link" project or whatever else is new this week. Some sort of consensus needs to be reached as to what we can do to get back on track.
I'll wait until tomorrow to start reviewing WIPs so, hopefully, more people will get a chance to get something in. Or at least drop by and leave a note. Thank you to all who have already taken the time to do this.

So... weekend's practicly over, time to make up the bill. The big question being: Where do we stand and what are we going to do about it?
I've been thinking about it...and I don't know. It's really hard to stay motivated when it seems like nobody cares about the project except those who are on it. Well, the ones who are actually 'here', anyway.
I can't think of anything we can do to save the project. Sure, we could move back to community, but we've already PMed so many mixers, why would they decide to just come on board?
I had this whole big post planned out, but is it even worth typing out? Only a few people will read it and moaning about how mixers keep abandoning us isn't going to help us. And how we've been around for more than a year and barely have anything done... I guess I'm being all doomy and gloomy, but I honestly don't see us finishing anymore.

Yea that's true... it's naive to think that a project will be done at the end of a year, but we do have to get back our momentum. Perhaps move the thread once more and make a call for more remixers (I don't know how).
But it's not as if there's nothing done yet. I mean, there are some tracks that are pretty close to completion (leepmeister's track is done right?) and some are good on their way. Not all is lost

Well, nice to hear it. I updated the front page a bit, so I think I've got it all right out. I hope I didn't remove somebody I didn't notice was still on. So I think I might do a revision of the left over bosses soon. If someone's there that hasn't been taken I'll just replace it.
Or better idea. Create two groups. One of taken bosses, one much larger pool of untaken bosses, including those once removed. If someone wants to pick one of them, it gives them a larger group to pick from, and it doesn't pressure myself of the project to get X done. Thoughts?

Guys, I've made a decision, you haven't heard from me quite some time, which was basically because I was caught up in a lot of other remixes and projects. Believe me when I say, I have tried my best to continue with the Sephiroth mix, it just didn't work out at all, even though I continued to convince myself I would finish it sometime. I feel really bad for 'hogging' this important mix for such a long time and coming up with pretty much nothing in return, so I guess it's time to let someone more capable of doing the song justice take the reins. Yes, I'm basically dropping out, but believe me when I say it wasn't an easy decision for me to make.
If it's any consolation at all, I could post the midi of what I have (About 3 minutes of material) so anyone interested could salvage from it whatever they need, you wouldn't even have to give me credit or something.
Once again, I'm really sorry.

Bowser (great work from leepmeister)
M. Bison (me)
Sinistrals (avaris)
Far along (and/or are actively being remixed):
Saturos & Menardi (Dash Myoku)
Gruntilda (Joker)
Mother Brain (mlo)

Funny that'd it appear I'm blocked from posting in this thread.... not that that has anything to do with an absence.
I'm a downright idiot. I had a great thing going and gave it up. Partially because I was a bit bothered with the OCR community (but no one here, take my word for it. More of a general statement), and partially because I didn't think I deserved this project. It was going in a direction I'm not sure I wanted to be involved with, and, well... I'm not entirely sure myself of every reason, something like a culmination of my own worst aspects (me, not the project). It's inspiring to see it's still around, with or without me.
I could sit hear and bemoan myself and my actions... but I'd rather not. I've taken about a week to decide whether or not I want to come back, but it's not up to me. If you guys will allow me to continue on this, I'd be glad to lend my hand back to the project.

Oh, neat, we can embed youtube now? I've been gone too long. Well, as if that wasn't already a "duh" statement to make. I think one thing I was hesitant about before was making changes, which is another stupid thing to say because I seemed to do it every so often. I'm going to tighten the rules on valid remixing material, and make everything a bit clearer. I've gotta switch up that list a bit, too. I mean, some games everyone likes, and some games I like. Like I said, I was acting partially in self-interest and I think now, I've got a further expanded view on what's popular and what's not. Expect some edits if I can ever change the damn thing, and some talking around here. I don't need my password or anything, I still know it, I can log in. I just can't post/edit. I feel like I've been fucking blacklisted. Ever since that ocr meetup, really. I mean, I had nothing to do that weekend, and it sounded like fun. It was like a club I wasn't invited to. Granted I had a blast, but that's not the point, I acted like an immature freakin' idiot.
But that's talking too much. I can go ahead and say I'm mostly a different person. Jeez, how fast people can change. But then, now it sounds like I'm inviting a re-evaluation. Which I half-am, but I don't want to sound needy. The whole site makes me feel extremely awkward at this point. But that's probably because I haven't been on (posted, anyway) in a while. Mid-late 2007 ... you know, it's not as long as I remember. Recap; some tightening, cleaning up. Taking things seriously now. Goddamn...

03-05-2008, 09:30 PM
So here's what I've got to say about the tracklist. The biggest example of what I'm talking about would be Saturos and Menardi. Even before I knew what was going to happen at all with anything else, I threw them into the proto-tracklist because I wanted to hear them re-done.
Which was selfish, and stupid.
Whether or not anyone else wanted them was irrelevant. I should have spent longer compiling a list, had a longer voting period, and of course, if I had made any mention of it on Community (was it still General Discussion then?) I would have gotten more ideas, and I'm sure more votes. Who cares if only ~10 people make it easy for me, it's still a too-small sampling.
You want proof I didn't plan it out well enough from the start? Dedede's not on there. I mean really, what was I thinking? Wherever this goes from here, I'm going to need to think more before I act.
Pi's_a_square

Ok, since no one seems interested enough to make a comment (or perhaps they have nothing to say) I'd like to point a few more things out.
Limiting musical genre to fit a theme was another poor choice in retrospect. Ok, picking one genre alone may have not been terrible, but I picked what, 3? I don't know... Here, let me say this. Not only would it be easier to not limit genre for creative purposes, but some themes might not fit well into that genre. I was trying to force square pegs into round holes.
I used the word 'badass' a lot, and that's kind of still true, but I didn't like the way I personally was associating it. OK, maybe it needs to have a certain vibe for a Boss-Themed album, but I was going about it the wrong way.., or something, I'm not really sure what I did that irks me exactly.
Obviously, if it's Bowser's Theme from 64 (That's not Koopa Road, that's the actual battle music I'm talking about) then yeah, rock might be a good idea. Whatever the mixer chooses, as long as it sounds good. That's the important part. There needs to be a midpoint between bosses that are actually memorable and significant, and bosses with good music. Usually the two go together, in some aspect or another, but they both need to be taken into consideration. It's not a popularity contest.

Anyway, this project needs more action and FAST.
Pi, you HAVE to get a good assistant for this (Joker would be a good choice in my opinion) and you have to make sure that you have the time to bug everyone with updates. Get in touch with everyone that's been working on this project and ask if they're still in or out. Scrap the tracklist, and let mixers decide which Boss Theme they want. That way, they'll be more motivated and that's always a good thing.
We need to make sure that people know this project has been resurrected (or is going to be), so I also suggest making a new thread (that way, you can edit the front page aswell).
On to my business, my M. Bison mix sucks and might be good enough for a bonus but that's it. I have plenty of ideas for the Gilgamesh thing though, and that's going to be up to standards.
So... let's get this ball rolling and FAST!
EDIT - It's good to see you've learned from teh experience, but stop saying how bad you were and how bad the project was etc etc etc... that's not going to boost popularity :P

Anyway, this project needs more action and FAST.
Hey hey now, if we rush, we're going to end up making more mistakes. Wanting to get something done fast is different than wanting to get something done right. I'd rather get to edit this front page instead of making a new one, by which I mean, actually getting my old account back.
I think first what we should do is go through all the mixers from the list and see who's on and not. After we decide on that, we might want to rework the tracklist, but not completely scrap it. Possibly, what we would do, is instead of making a list of bosses, and letting everyone else decide on who stays and goes, we could create a large list, maybe ~25 bosses, and for each suggest a theme to be remixed. That way the mixers get to decide on what they do, and out of a bigger pool, too. We could rank the bosses into groups based on importance to the album. A high-priority character would be in the top group.
Speaking of which, we might loosen the restriction on the badguy/boss which I've imposed.... here's an example. Andross isn't the best candidate, but Starwolf has had some amazing music through the series. Same with Mother Brain/(Meta)Ridley. We'll have to work it out.
stop saying how bad you were and how bad the project was etc etc etc... that's not going to boost popularity :PHeh, no kidding. I'm just marking off a few things, that's all. I'll cut that out.

I would stick to the Boss Themes only... I mean, that IS the whole idea of this project. I'd say keep it that at least 60% of the (source)remix should be Boss Theme.
And I know we don't want to rush it, but I don't waiting even longer is a good idea. I don't know what's the deal with your old account, but I still think starting over fresh with a new topic is the best idea, becuase I think that people are ignoring this thread.

Change 'Boss' to 'Villian' and presto-chango we've got a lot more opportunities. Also, I've been watching the thread views amount, and I honestly don't think we've got to worry about people not paying attention. Between this post and my last post, we've got something like +400 views. Even if we were to make a new thread, and I'm not counting that out, I'd rather do a small bit of planning and cleaning up beforehand.
The forums... I think we'll just start clean with a new one when we start over, but until then there's nothing wrong with continuing posting in that one. I may not have been there, but then again, I haven't been anywhere much. When we do, though, I'd like to just keep it about the music, and the project in general. Excuse my continuing tradition of complaining about myself, but I spent a small bit too much effort worrying about the artwork, and a few other trivial things. Until the music is done, or well on it's way, I shouldn't have any other priorities.

Brawl's Tetris A music isn't too far off what I meant by including the Tetris theme in the tracklist. I still say O blocks must be the reincarnation of some ancient evil, they're clumsy and ruin everything. What the hell was I thinking when I said S and Z, it's O I've got to worry about.

I'm still working on Grunty, which now has a bit of the other boss music from the games. I should finish it soon-ish, then I'ma see if Lu's still got time to do the rocking.
I'll take Andross if no one else wants it.

Might I suggest some BFM boss music? Personally, I'll be wanting to do a remix for BFM and this just seems like the perfect excuse. I mean...c'mon, that game pretty much has the BEST boss music I've ever heard from a game.

In regards to 'Prelude', I'll say I liked how it sounds like it came from TP, but was made in 2005. Consider yourself on the project. For some reason I remembered Abadoss doing Andross but I'm willing to bet it's just because the names are similar.

I want to see this project MOOOOOVE. I've actually been extremely idle as far as music making goes the past couple months, but I've been thinking of picking up my K.Rool mix and continuing to work on it again. Interest needs to be stirred I say into this project. Get it out there and make it known.

Hi, have sent a PM to Pi_R_[]ed that I wish to join and take on the dark force track from Phantasy star but I have received no reply.
It makes me wonder how serious I should take this.
I haven't been on this page in a long time but I can see that progress in general is slow (No offense). I don't see the problem, a project with so few tracks should be done in 2-4 months, but that's just me, hehe.

Usually, project tend to take up to about a year, although there are many projects here that have reached that point a long time ago.
Pi seems to be missing however, again. This project needs a (co)leader, but I'm too busy at the moment to be able to do anything. So, you can of course join this project as a mixer, but what we really need is a good coordinator that can get things rolling again. Whether that's Pi with a miraculous retur or someone else

Alright, I'm in. I just want to see how many of the old guard are still up for this project. So far I've seen pu_freak, & Metal. Other than those 2, I think the tracklist needs some revising. We'll basically start over on that count, with the exeption of the the guys I've mentioned (inlcuding me). I'll check around & see if anyone else is interested. See if I can't call in some favors.
Also, I liked pi's last idea, that we focus on villian & boss themes. Whether they be mini bosses, main bosses, or character themes for the bosses. Keeping the darker aspect to it, but allowing both aggressive as well as more mellow mixes within it.
What do you guys think?

Is it possible to include lesser known bosses and boss themes? I want to use this opportunity to bring in music from games that would never get into albums otherwise. I haven't met a boss theme I haven't at least somewhat enjoyed, so if I can get my mixing skills up to par in time I am so in.
Examples of boss themes I might want to remix include:

Gah! Something has caught my attention about the track list.
"Gary Oak" is the name of a character from the Pokémon anime. The video game character's name should be "Blue". Since this is supposed to be a video game remix project, it makes sense to use the proper name from the proper media.
Most fans of the game do not like to mix or mingle the game and the show together. I jst thought you should know in case you get a bunch of "GARY OAK IS NOT IN TEH ANIMEZ!" messages after this gets released.

It entirely depends on whether you're basing it on Red/Blue/Green or Yellow. I know that in essence they are all the same but iirc, in Yellow Gary was the default name for him, as was Ash for the player, as it mirrored the anime in certain respects.
But Blue had more continuity in the series as a game, so The Damned does have a point, still.

So, i'm still debating this project. There doesn't seem to be enough interest in it as far as musicians are concerned. That's why I'm on the fence about continuing.
Having said that, the tracklist on the front page is basically out of date & no longer the tracklist. And "Crescendo to Chaos" is the working title for a project that is still being worked on at foundation level.
If I can muster enough support with a good number of artists to start out, I'll start the new thread asap. Until then, it's still up in the air.

I think the problem is that there are so many projects going right now. It's a massive drain on the talent pool this site has, and people are wearing out.
If it weren't for the inherent nature of projects (random schedules, on-and-off moments of inspiration, trouble getting organized, etc., etc...), I would love for there to be some sort of planned order and timing for each project. Sort of like "OK, this project is next. It has one year to complete all aspects. No other project will be started until it is done". But that's not only unrealistic, but horribly unfair.
So many projects... I wonder if any of the current ones will get any time in the spotlight for more than a week now. They're going to overlap each other at this rate. Hopefully they will all work out!
The Coop
11-16-2008, 01:19 AM
I think part of the problem is also that many of the projects want OCR quality. Now, I'm not talking about letting something that sucks to high hell go through, but having the project bar in the same position as the OCR bar kind of cuts out potential remixers who might have been interested, yet don't meet what's expected for this place. And thus, you're limited in who would and wouldn't be able to take part.

If there's not a lot of tracks, I say it should be OCR quality. If there's a lot of tracks, I think there should be room to make for lesser-known artists, one thing the Skies of Arcadia project could do.
They're going to overlap each other at this rate. Hopefully they will all work out!
I say have an album dual-release one of these days
This is a project I REALLY want to go through. I mean, OCR is very melodic oriented. Not that that's bad, I love melodic stuff (Chrono Cross soundtrack FTW), I'm just saying that this project will bring out more metal, upbeat stuff, which I want to start seeing more of, you know? I've heard quite a few metal/upbeat mixes here but there's way more melodic mixes. I think there should be more of a balance.
Of course maybe I just haven't heard enough.

Now why did I think about SM64 Project?
Probably because I was involved with it many moons ago. But rest assured, my post held no reference to past events. I'm not the sour grapes type. It's simply a matter of fact that putting such a requirement in place limits the size of the pool you wish to draw from. And as someone else mentioned, when you keep drawing from that same pool for virtually every project, the artists get overextended, and the projects they had been a part of start falling behind due to the artists doing the same because of a lack of time/interest.

i'm all for letting newer remixers get a shot. I just want some known talent to get things started with. Noy even a lot, just like, a good 4, hell even 3 would be nice. right now, I've gotten some maybe's down the road, but that's not enough.

I'd hate to see another boss music project bite the dust. I was part of the "UnMod R Bad Men" project back in the day, and it was basically the same premise... boss themes. It was going along alright until the whole sidebar thing hit. Then the project makers took it to unmod.org. There, it died a slow death over a month's time. It sucked, because some cool themes had been chosen, and it was moving forward.
I'd like to see this attempt at the same thing come to fruition, and not whither away. If it has to be put on hold for a time, then so be it. But hopefully it won't simply vanish. Having the same fate take the concept down twice would suck.
