Welcome to the recruitment/interest thread for...
Crescendo to Chaos
A collection of themes from the most badass and memorable bosses in gaming history!
The basic idea of this project is to create one album to showcase some of the most well known bosses from video games. For bosses that have appeared in more than one game, the remixer has the opportunity to choose the game's theme he or she wants. If a boss has different themes throughout the series, there is no problem with an artist working them together into one piece.

Genre
Any genres of music can be used as long as they've got a deep, profoundness that express the players concerns, and the power and domination the boss exerts. Basically, dark and boss like will do. Preferably Orchestrated, Techno, and Rock, or a sick sounding combo. Avoid ambiance, if possible. Other genres are ok, too. Just check with the coordinators.
Other important notes
If two bosses have a special connection, with different themes (Ex: Bowser, and Big Boo; Mother Brain and Ridley), and one is not on the list, you can combine the two (or more), as long as the listed boss remains dominant. Ask about any of this if you are not sure.

If you are in the middle two, you're fine. Keep working at it and soon these tracks will be amazing. If you are in the bottom category, you need to do something about this quickly, or if I have reviewed an old crappy WIP, send a new one to me and Pi immediatley. I will try to update this post from time to time, and put that quality list on the first post. Good luck to everyone and keep working.

Added Robotnik. Remember, this is just giving an idea of the project, and to recruit people. Once I gain more help, a full list will be made.

Hey Nineko, how do you say "Chaos Compendium - Crescendo of Catastrophe" in Italian? Is there a way to do that so that every word starts with a "c"? All of the words in that title are Italian or Greek anyway. Except the word "of". :)
Dr. Wily has a different BGM every time so I guess bringing him in wouldn't be a good idea. Shodan, maybe?
... I wonder if there's a game where God is the last boss.

Hey Nineko, how do you say "Chaos Compendium - Crescendo of Catastrophe" in Italian? Is there a way to do that so that every word starts with a "c"?it's pretty similar in Italian, as you noticed most of the words come from Latin so they don't change much. it's "Compendio del Caos - Crescendo di una Catastrofe". we just use more prepositions and articles.

All of the bosses listed up there have different themes in each game they are featured in.

How about a remixer selects the boss he/she wants to tackle, and then selects the version of their music that they remix? I'm sure that would be more remixer-friendly, don't you?
Also, how about something simpler, like "Crescendo to Chaos"? Too many C's going on.

I fully support this idea. I wish to be credited in the "special thanks" section as the guy who gave this the two thumbs up back when it was a baby idea in the site projects section of the forum before it was a site project.
I just confused myself.....

Crescendo to Chaos? I like it! Thanks. By the way, the alliteration was for some humor. I did expect to change it some time during the course of a project.
Now, this is a recruitment page, so, isn't there anyone out there interested in joining? If someone reading this thinks they, or an artist they are familiar with would like to work on this project, don't hesitate to post yourself.
For selecting the music from which game they want to choose, I will leave that to be decided between me and the Remixer, unless there is a public demand for a specific one.
Arek, you wan't a spot in the special thanks? You got it.
ooo cool idea! I gotta think about wether i could make anything of quality for this project... and who'd I'd be wanting to mix... (aRH! too many interesting peices of music to make...)

07-15-2006, 07:11 AM
This actually does seem like it could be a sucessful project, and it's neat that all the themes are from different games. I wonder why someone hasn't thought of this...who says a remix project has to be only one game?
Anyway, I could write some music if this project were to ever go anywhere (certainly hope it does). Put me on the "interested" list.
Nineko
07-15-2006, 11:05 AM
as mentioned before, the music for a boss changes through different games.
would I be allowed to remix robotnik's theme from Sonic A and you allowed to remix robotnik's theme from Sonic B? or there will be only one version for each boss?
Pi_R_[]ed
07-15-2006, 01:01 PM
I would want to limit only one track to a boss.
however...
If you want to, you and another artist, or just yourself, can get together to mix 2 themes for the same boss into one. Just as long as they fit.
As a side note, if anyone wishes to get into contact with a big name here at OCR, and see if they would want to help out, that'd be great. A big name might really help the quality, and popularity, of the album.

Mr.. I'm sorry, is there a shorter version of your name to type?
I approve of widening the definition of remix projects with this. Some sort of piano performance for the final Bowser fight in SM64 would be awesome. Just a suggestion for variety beyond the obvious villian choices, but I guess that's up to the remixers and all involved.
Now, speaking of unique projects, I'd love to get a hip hop/rap one going, but I wouldn't have the pull within the community to the artists that would do it justice..

Yeah. For now, anyone concerned enough to bother can call me Frank S. I'm really excited to see such enthusiasm for this project.
Again, in case you didn't read the edits I made to the first post, if you are interested in joining, post the piece you think would most express why you would be a good artist for this album. If you haven't made a piece on OCR yet, tell me where to find your music, or, if you are a complete n00b, I'll give you the oppertunity to work on the project, just don't screw us over by delaying, and delaying, and delaying...
Another thing, and it is probably way too early to start thinking about this, but is there anyone that wishes to do the album art?

you should make up a list of all the songs you want to do before recruiting
think hard about this project. you can either make or break it.
dont start now, go do a little thinking of what you want and such, then start.

Heres a list of considered bosses.
Of course, it's not like I've plyed every game in existence, so any new boss themes that I have missed would be welcome:
Andross
Ansem
Bowser/Bowser Jr/Koopalings.
Captain Syrup
Dr. Eggman/Robotnik
Dr. Neo Cortex/Uka Uka
Ganon(dorf)/Agahnim/Majora's Mask
Gary Oak
Gruntilda/Klungo
King Boo/Petey Piranha
King DeDeDe/Dark Matter
King K. Rool
Lavos
Master Hand
Mother Brain/Kraid/Ridley
Sephiroth
Again, I play video games I like playing. If I missed a great game with an amazing final boss, or secret boss, or whatever, post it!
On the other hand, if anyone is stongly opposed to a boss listed, bring up a good point as to why they shouldn't be used, and maybe they will be removed. One or two of these bosses may be using generic battle music without me realising it, so tell me if they are.
This is in no way a final list. I would like around 20-30 tracks in this album, so more will be added.
Now that I think about it, hidden bosses would make good bonus tracks, wouldn't they...
Kanjika
07-16-2006, 01:37 AM
Yeah i'm thinking this will eventualy get a go ahead.
You asked, and since i'm interested in this, I think I would be a good choice because I can create a quality mix in the style this project requires (probably something more intense, since it's about bosses :P ). I have no mixes on the site, but I last submitted to the panel in like, 2004, which explains why. I'll have a couple mixes on Project Chaos, or you can check my artist page in my profile for all my really crappy songs...

I still highly recommend you do some research on other site projects to see how to coordinate one before going and starting this.
Being gung ho shows that you got the spirit for it, but without the right ideas in your mind, this can fall apart easily.
The Mutericator
07-16-2006, 02:04 AM
Don't worry about it. Back before DJP let mods have power in the ironically-named Unmod, there was a plan for a project, made by Unmodders only, with a similar goal - remixing final boss music. I wasn't sure if the project was still active (since it had its own forum at the .org), so I was just mentioning it.
I'd trust Kyle if he says the project is dead.

Arek, you keep stressing that I should research other site projects. Since you already are in the "special thanks" section, maybe you could help out some more, and PM me what I need to know. Short of downloading most of the currently available projects, reading some of the Site Project forums, and checking the Wikipedia entries, I'm not sure where else to get help.

ed]Arek, you keep stressing that I should research other site projects. Since you already are in the "special thanks" section, maybe you could help out some more, and PM me what I need to know. Short of downloading most of the currently available projects, reading some of the Site Project forums, and checking the Wikipedia entries, I'm not sure where else to get help.
I can give you a few pointers:
Have the time and dedication - Make sure you have enough time to coordinate a site project to its full completion. These projects often take upwards of a year to complete (Hedgehog Heaven took two and a half!), and can be extremely draining if you aren't prepared to take on the workload. You'll need to recruit remixers (this means sending out PMs and emails): Don't be afraid of rejections, as you'll likely get a lot of 'em. It is a good way to get the project out there, though, and it at least lets people know what you're working on. Make a big list of potential remixer recruits and talk to all of them.
Communication is important - Always make sure to stay in contact with the people who are involved in your project on a regular basis. If you don't do this, your project will fail, guaranteed.
Recruit a co-coordinator - Someone you can fall back on to run the project in case of an emergency, and just someone to pitch some general ideas to is very helpful. Maybe try to get someone who is strong is an area you aren't. For example: If you're not very good at artwork, recruit an artist as a co-coordinator (this is what I did :P), or even just as a general staff member to do artwork. Either way, someone to discuss project issues and ideas with helps your chances of project success.
I think that's about all I got. Just thought I'd help out a bit. :)
Arek the Absolute
07-16-2006, 02:35 AM
pm ya, nah, posting it here would help more since others can see it too.
When I say "do some research", I am meaning that you should go check out the other site projects and "study" how they are. Get the "feel" of how to make one by their example.
Perfect examples of projects done right:
Rise of the star (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=42958)
Dark side of Phobos (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47072)
Doom 2 remix project (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=71824)
Once you have read through those for a little and gathered how they were ran and how they got successful, then you can go ahead and start your project.
I am by no means saying you aren't qualified, but rather I am saying you should get a little "experience" gathered before starting.
gl homie g dawg
EDIT:
Co-coordinator is a god send and communication is like your backbone. Without it, it will fall apart faster than you can say "la project".

Ok, now I'm freaked out.
Those pages are way cleaner and more official than this, and now I'm not sure waht I'm doing.
Arek, KyleJCrb, is it just me, or did you both just request a co-coordinator status? I'd have no problem giving the title away, you both seem to know what you're doing to a much higher degree than I do. But I can't decide. Arek, you have posted here more, and you're working on another project already, so there's some experience, but I don't want to overwork you from working on two projects at once. If you're up for it, the positions yours.
So, if you accept, maybe you can start guiding us along, so I can remove myself from the corner in my room, rocking myself back into sanity...

I'd be willing to help out with anything if needed also. I usually spend a good amount of time on this board not doing much of anything, so I would gladly use some of that tome for this.
And I might not choose a Robotnik boss theme even though i'm a Sonic fan. I've remixed a lot of Sonic tracks already. Too early to tell anything though...
Claado Shou
07-16-2006, 05:08 PM
Hmm...how about you have a theme, like, traveling through the years of memorable bosses?
For instance, the first of the bosses to be introduced to videogames (Bowser/Ganon) would have the first track, then the next (Mother Brain/Ridley), then the next, more and more into the future, until the most recent boss theme is the last one. That would also sort of go with the theme of "Crescendo to Chaos"...a gradual rise from the low end to the high end (timeline-wise).
Or, you could do the same thing, only with the indelibility of the bosses...lesser ones (King Dedede, K.Rool, etc.) go first, and then the bigger baddies come last (Magus, Sephiroth, Bowser, etc.). Of course, their ranks as memorable bosses would have to be voted on before a track order is assigned, but that's another matter.
Of the two, I like the first one better. Seems more like a "journey through gaming" sort of idea. And that would also help narrow down the options of bosses...take one or two from each year (unless a bunch of really really good ones came out all at once) until you have a refined list of kickass baddies. A plethora, even.
Just an idea.

Claado, I think I like that second idea of yours.
So, how would we go about putting things to a vote? If I'm not mistaken, isn't there a way to make a new thread into a poll? Because asking for posts here might get a little messy.
Not saying your first idea wasn't good, but things ordering by date would throw off the balance. Ending with Bowser, Sephiroth, etc. would really be exciting. Listening from small bosses, bigger...bigger, then HUGE bosses, known worldwide. Thats the meaning of the title of this album.
Claado Shou
07-17-2006, 02:45 AM
Tru dat. Of course, we need to narrow the list dramatically...so the project leader (for right now, you) needs to get some outside input, and come up with a resolute list of bosses. I'd suggest you keep it under 35, but over 25...don't wanna kick out some good contenders. Your call, though.
Also, if you don't mind me saying, I wouldn't start a "poll" necessarily...that would lead to a LOT of votes for one guy (or group of baddies), and a bunch would be left in the dark. I suggest you come up with your list, and then ask people to rank the bosses in order of memorability, assigning a number value to each rank (a la PRC). Then tally up the points and come up with a listing.
I sure hope this thing takes off. It's a great idea, and a lot of good ideas around here never go anywhere. Let's hope you don't fall prey to the same fate.

07-17-2006, 03:44 AM
...so the project leader (for right now, you)...
What? "For right now"? Don't tell me you're serious. Is there really a possibility of me losing out to someone else on my own project?
That aside, I must bring up a point previously made. I haven't played every game ever. I am not familiar with every boss. If left to me, the tracks in this album would end up being centered on Nintendo, limiting other companies and platforms. I would need more suggestions to get into this project, somehow. But I don't want this thread ending up flooded with dozens of people going "53p1r07h 15 73h H4x00r", or whatever, but I don't want to miss out on any overlooked bosses, either. How should I go about getting worthwhile input?
Another idea I had a short while ago, is that the album could contain multiple disks, like so:
mini-bosses -> (Koopalings)
Less known final bosses -> (Baby Bowser)
Well known final bosses -> (Bowser)
Famous hidden bosses -> (Culex)
Just an example
Of course, 4 disks is WAY too much, and I'm not sure I want to fully implement this idea. But, I thought I might as well post it to see what kind of feedback I get.
Besides, I'd rather have this based on famous bosses, and not bother with minibosses
EDIT: Btw, no one reserve K. Rool or Neo Cortex just yet. Hopefully this will pull through, so I'll explain why when the time comes.

ed]ATTENTION: I am looking for a Co-coordinator, preferably with an extensive knowledge of OCR's (and similar sites) well known artists, and good people skills. If interested, PM me. Know that responsibility and dedication come with this title!I would be glad to be your co-coordinator, but I can't be entitled to do that.
Lemmie chip in with some project leader tips, since apparently my project falls under "successful site project." :P
- Paitence. Having a good song is sooo much better than dropping a mixer early on cause they couldn't meet a deadline. Make deadlines flexible but don't let people step all over you. Constant check ups on mixers may be annoying but they keep everyone in check and remind people that you're in charge.
- Dedication. A half assed project is just that. You better expect to put in a lot of hours of work on this, keep in touch with your mixers, micromanage all the different aspects (art, promotion, torrent distro, mirrors, etc) or else your project will fail miserably.
- Be prepared for drammma. You will not escape it. With mixers, fans, everyone. There will be drama and as project leader, you will have to deal with it.
- Make it look good. This probably wont apply to you now, but eventually your project will be released and it had damn well better look good. Get a nice website (http://doom.ocremix.org), make sure all your tags are uniform and neat, make sure the torrent is nice and clean, all that jazz. Presentation is a huge part of the project.
- Have reliable back ups on hand. Sometimes a mixer will have to drop and there's nothing you can do about it. At least two or three tracks on DSoP were made after the original mixer had to drop for some reason or another and it always helps to have good people you can call on to effectively mix what you need in a short amount of time. Said people saved my project.
- Be prepared for stress. Especially as release nears, expect a lot of stress in many forms.
- Be prepared for harsh criticism. If you can't take harsh critics, you're headed for a bumpy road. No matter what you do, there will always be people that won't like it. Get used to it.
That's all I got at the moment. Hope it helps.
Now, speaking of unique projects, I'd love to get a hip hop/rap one going, but I wouldn't have the pull within the community to the artists that would do it justice..
I wonder who would?

Ok, Im gonna make this quick.
Arek - Im putting "/culex" onto the list, but should I do that, or keep FF4's soundtrack? They are both the same music, so, which boss (culex or the FF4 guy) is more "badass"?
ocremixfan - Those 3 are on the list.
Quizzledorf - I already answered that. If it's the same boss, yes, a medley can be done. If the gradius games have different bosses each time, then no.
Claado Shou - Sorry about the confusion. You just freaked me out.
Rexy - Thanks for posting like I asked. Now do you see why I asked no one reserve N. Cortex?
Nineko - Thanks anyway. If you dont wish be a co-coordinator, but still hang around and help, I'd be happy for the assistance.
myf - Big help. That sums up a lot of what I need to know. Dedication is important, I know that. Along with "Make it look Good", I ask:
Does anyone here (or anyone you know) have any connections at deviantArt, or a similar site that could set up the album covers and website when the time comes?
And, everyone whos been a big help, thanks. Im glad to see that everyone posting is as enthusiastic about this project as I am.
If theres anything not covered here, tell me. Otherwise, lets get back to work hammering out the details. C'mon, I need more Remixers!
Also, PM me if you have a boss you want to see in the game. I think what Ill do is get a list of 40-60 bosses, have people rank them, and the top 25~35 will make it into the album. What do you think?

ed]Nineko - Thanks anyway. If you dont wish be a co-coordinator, but still hang around and help, I'd be happy for the assistance.don't misread my words.
I would be GLAD to be your co-coordinator and help you especially with the technical stuff (mp3 tagging and everything mentioned by myf), and maybe also for the website.
problem is, I CANNOT get such a position, because I've been banned.
still, I'll try to drop here a wip of some Robotnik theme asap. :)

07-17-2006, 10:39 PM
How would someone even end up banned? What could you have done that's that bad? Or, maybe you just pissed off the wrong guy...
So, can you have any title, or even a presence in special thanks? Maybe Ill whip out a thesaurus and make up a title for you:
Associative Correlative Technical Assistant?
Or, whatever. It's not the title thats important. The help from you is more than enough.
And, I assume this means you are taking Robotnik? If I can ask this early, is it from one game or a medley? I wouldn't be able to pick that out immediately. The genre would be obvious.
IMPORTANT!!!
Robotnik, Bowser, Sephiroth, are all definatley on the album! Others (Gary Oak, Capt. Syrup, Gruntilda) will be decided once 30~40 bosses are ammased as candidates! DO NOT pick a track without posting your choice, and waiting for confirmation, no matter how sure you are that they will be on the album!!

Great to see more interest, but remember, Giygas may not make the final cut.
If you really want to work on this project, I reccomend just hoping for that theme, for now, but choose another (preferably one definatley ending up in the album), and keep it in the back of your mind.
I really should be more carefull when it comes to assigning tracks this early, but if they are certain finalists (Is that even what to call them?) I see no damage.

I noticed the list on page one is missing Kuja. I'd like to nominate his theme "Dark Messenger" for the project. Actually I'll try to list a few other good ones:
Vaati (Zelda Minish Cap)
Zeromus (FFIV)
Mr. X (Streets of Rage 2)
M. Bison (Street Fighter 2)
Rugal (King of Fighters series)
Sigma (Megaman X)
I'd better stop there or I'm going to start suggesting some really obscure stuff that no one will want to remix.

Arek - Im putting "/culex" onto the list, but should I do that, or keep FF4's soundtrack? They are both the same music, so, which boss (culex or the FF4 guy) is more "badass"?
The Culex battle music is just the normal ff4 boss battle song, so it would kinda "hinder" your idea. I suggest you add the battle music of when you fight the elements, which was "the dreadful fight".
That, and the final battle, should do ff4 justice :D
Pi_R_[]ed
07-18-2006, 12:09 AM
Jeez, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, 2 games I MUST ADD RIGHT NOW!!!
Arek, I still need to know the name of the boss being fought during "the dreadful fight" before I can add it. Is it just "The Elements"?
Arek the Absolute
07-18-2006, 12:09 AM
They are called the "four elemetal fiends". Each are of an element (fire, wind, water, earth).
And as Reelmojo (muffinmixgirl) said, Zeromus, the final boss of ff4, is also a must.

Dark Gaia's battle theme was one of the best I've ever heard. I hope he will be on the album. Grab an SPC of Illusion of Gaia. It might be on VGMusic too. Best. Boss Theme. EVAR.
If he does make it, I would like to request his theme to remix.
EDIT--Found a MIDI of it on VGMusic. Its called Final Battle. I'd also like to request the Dark King's battle theme from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. It is also on VGMusic. But I don't want to do that one. I would love to hear a remix of it tho

Anyway I see that thereīs people nominating specific songs for the project. Iīll see if I can also send some in.
Some from the top of my head are Lavosīs or Magusīs battle themes (Chrono Trigger), either Andross or Star Wolf (Star Fox series, doesnīt matter what game), King Dedede or any of his goonies (Kirby series, again the gameīs your call), Kefka or Atma (FF6) and Dracula (Castlevania series, doesnīt matter on the game in question).
Yeah, I know I saw some popular ones but it canīt really be a project without some of these :P

Arek, why cant I use any Kirby villians? Are you saying not to use Lavos/Magus, Mother Brain, Robotnik, or whoever else? Im sorry, but just beacause Dedede was in an album already, doesnt mean I can't use him in this one.

Heck I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the 2 mixes aren't the same thing, there's not really anything wrong with it. And it's really hard to say "Hey thats MINE i already DID that!". There's probably already mixes of most of these on OCR too, as well as with many other songs that were in projects.

Going by that notion, all of the remixes of Schala's Theme except for the first one should be taken off of OCR. Who cares if the same theme repeats itself in another project? The more the better, I say. :P

There you have it, folks. A project name, coordinator, co-coordinator, and track selection in the works!
So, remember, we all want this to pull through. A first for OCR, a first for any of us. Instead of fighting about trivial details (Arek, Dedede is in. If you want to make sure that track is good, reserve it for yourself!), we should be focusing on making this the highest quality project possible.
So, keep sending in bosses, and when we hit that magic number (~60), we'll start the voting, and the most popular bosses will be used in tracks.
So, good luck to all, and here's to the best damn project, ever!

Well, before we go 'offical', we should probably narrow down the tracklisting and get a solid idea of what we want. No need to rush.
And people, I understand that you want YOUR most memorable boss in the game (everyone has their favorites), but that would be waaaay too much. I think we need to vote on about 20 or so of the MOST memorable bosses, ones that everyone knows. A vote would help, but if you try to appease every single person on OCR, this isn't going anywhere.

maybe this was already answered, but I haven't found it:
how the remix should be done when a certain important boss have many themes, like robotnik across several sonic games? will it be a medley?
this is also an example of boss which is "normal" and "final" at the same time... how this will be dealt with?
Kanjika
07-20-2006, 05:15 PM
Well we might add a few of those tracks, but we're at the point where we need to narrow down the list. If you think something is REALLY important that we dont have, it'll be considered. The list now has 34 bosses and 8 minibosses (if I counted correctly).

The remixer will choose what he or she wants to do. Its not hard to fit things together. Heck, look at Sonic 2. Robotniks theme and his final boss theme are in the same key. They would it just fine. I think most people would consider the normal boss theme from the sonic games to be Robotnik's theme, since the final boss themes are only played once.

Nineko, I thought you dropped...
Sorry if I got you mad, I just don't want to mess with DarkeSword till the projects official. Ironically, for that, hes the one to go to...
So, does this mean your back in?
And, if you two dont mind, maybe you two can work together on the project, maybe? Two heads are always better than one. If not, you have to decide which one of you gets the track, or it will be up to me and kanjika. A WIP from both of you, or work together.

I'm pretty sure that Claado was joking, as a) you never fight Terra and b) he ended it with "terramixlol"
Terra's theme is one of the most popular/overdone (depending on who you ask) tracks around here. It'd be the same thing as suggesting that you fight Schala and the Ice Cap zone itself just to make it a part of this project.
Haha. I had no idea since i've only played the later final fantasy games. I'll make sure it's fixed later.
Yah, totally joking about that right there. Yep. Completely.

Alright, it looks like the tracklist is near the right size!
I have to ask you guys though. Are there any more BIG bosses out there that are not on the list? We could add a few more, as over time we'll have to get rid of a few of these. The tracklist can't really be final until every song is done...
The only thing that comes to mind to me so far is Dark Force from the Phantasy Star series. That sounds like something Quinn Fox might do o.o

there are several bosses from minor games... like Disney's ones.
Iīm not so sure about the Disney ones as they arenīt specifically videogame exclusive like most of the others. But again it depends on the game, like thereīs a couple listed from Kingdom Hearts for example.

We will no longer take suggestions!! From this point until Friday, July 28, PM me, Pi_r_[]ed with the following information:
Make a list of UNSTARRED bosses from the first post, in order of most important to least important,
followed by a list of STARRED bosses, from most important to least important,
followed by a list of STARRED AND UNSTARRED bosses, in order of most important to least important
IN YOUR OWN OPINION!!!
If there is a boss we missed (like, if we forgot Sephiroth) PM me or Kanjika with the subject "Boss miss [name of boss],[name of game]". But don't waste our time with unimportant bosses!

Starred bosses are the big guys that are "locked" meaning the will be on the final list. The others are what's really being voted on. The bosses that are indented are just minibosses.
Pi_R_[]ed

I thought this would be simple enough... but
** means starred. These will end up on the album, period.
No stars means it may end up on the album, if it ranks high enough based on users votes.
_____Indents are minibosses, or are not big enough to have their own track. DO NOT include minibosses in your vote.

Hah, a boss battle tribute album at OCR? This is almost guaranteed to be filled with ambient and overinterpreted blandness.
Prove me wrong and I'll be a happy man.
Also, any boss tribute that doesn't have the boss battles from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is doomed to failure.

If it's available and you're still accepting remixers for the project, I would love to take on the Sephiroth Boss Battle remix. (FF Fanboy and all that :P) Admittedly, I am a complete n00b (working on some WIPs but I haven't got anything on OCR), but you don't have to worry about delays- I've got nothing to do until September, really, so plenty of time to work on a Remix ^_^
And just out of interest, which song would be being remixed for the Sephiroth battle? One Winged Angel would be pretty difficult since it's already been done in plenty of different ways...
Pi_R_[]ed
07-23-2006, 02:41 PM
Remixers can apply at any time, and yes, it is one-winged angel. If Im not mistaken, Sephiroth has three different peices, you can include those, as long as OWA is dominant in the mix.
Mystic quest was included once, but removed because we ended up with around 6 bosses from the Final Fantasy series. I will put it back, but only because it was already there once, and it is a spin-off, and not part of the main series.
Also, try reading the posts next time... we are going for rock, orchestra, techno, not ambiance.

Nice. Like Kanjika said, you can pick a track, but if you wait a week, you can pick from the final tracklisting instead of being limited to just the starred selections.
Pi said it pretty well. Even here I see this as a good chance to focus on something that I wonīt typically do stylistically, but am in because of its wide potential.

I was actually going to request that Birth of a God be remixed instead because A: it's probably easier, and B: there are like 9 official versions of One Winged Angel already. If someone can do another good version of OWA I'm all for it, but I don't think I've ever heard Birth of a God remixed at all while we've already heard OWA in rock, orchestral, and techno. It's no big deal really, I guess I'm just requesting that the remixer that takes Sephiroth put a little BoaG in there. If not I'm sure it'll be remixed in the FFVII project anyway, so it's all good.
In other news, I voted. And you should too.

Nice. If you plan on adding lyrics, I was tossing around the idea of latin lyrics for a while. I would do it, I have a Latin-English dictionary, but the grammer would be way off. That, and you'd need to find a whole chorus to help out.
If you did want to do that, you would need to pull execute it flawlessly, or it could ruin the song. But, its up to you.
C T snotkins
08-02-2006, 12:38 PM
i'm sorry man, but that song would not sound good in latin at all! besides the origional was funny as hell, and if nobody understands it, than it losses its charisma
not to mention all the dissapointed poo fans out there who wait for a really good remix of a song they enjoy, and then see sombody destroy it with latin lyrics. if your going to put lyrics in PLEASE stick with the origional...or to make evreybody happy do both! then again, it is totally up to you.
Pi_R_[]ed
08-02-2006, 09:19 PM
First, don't freak out. No one will bother to listen.
Second, I could hardly interperate that post anyway. It's original, not "origional", but good job spelling charisma.
Third, I meant a latin chorus, in between the main verses, alongside the "ahh-Ahh-AHH". Of course the original lyrics would be kept, the song is nothing without them.
If you are that concerned we are going to kill the song, we are in the requests thread. Hit the back button and post a request, or download a program, and try making one yourself. There are plenty of experts willing to help you out.
Either way, chill. Slow down, and type properly. We've slowed down to hours between posts, there is no rush.

The sig is great, but I regret to inform you that we already have an album artist, handpicked by me from deviantArt.
I suppose it's prime time to reveal the album art, too. No WIP is available yet, but here's a brief description:
A rock concert stage, with Sephiroth on lead guitar, Ganon on base, and Bowser on drums. Each instrument is themed after the villian (ex: Seph's guitar has a One-Winged Angel theme, Bowser's drums are based on koopa shells, etc...). The crowd is filled with baddies from all the series featured in the album.
Feedback, anyone? Kanjika and I think it's a great idea, but if anyone else has other ideas, they'd be welcome. BTW, the guys known as "gts" on dA.

I've havent played Lufia in years, but if this (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/lufia.mid) is the castle, and this (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/lufia1_bt3.mid) is the battle, it sounds to me like you would have more to work with, and a more boss-like sound if you used the actual battle theme.
But hey, your the remixer. what can I do?
...wait, I'm the Coordinator...
I'll just throw in that if you do do it, and I'll list you for it, try to use both. At least throw in a reference to the battle theme.

Pi_R_[]ed
08-15-2006, 01:17 AM
Wait... what? When you say original, do you mean the art, the remixes, or the idea in general? Because... you can't hear sigs.

...just asking to clear it up, I'm just a little lost right now.
Warmech
08-15-2006, 03:52 AM
Nono. I meant the concept for the artwork was original. As in, doing them in a concert is neat.
Then you say you have three of the villians in the band, with drums, guitar, and bass. I just figured you'd round it out by having someone only being the "singer" of the group.
Pi_R_[]ed
08-15-2006, 07:06 AM
Well, Sephiroth's gonna be both lead guitar and vocals. Maybe I shoulda mentioned that. Unless you can think of someone better (Side note: Has Ozzy ever been in a video game? That'd be weird...). But, thanks, I'm glad people like the idea.
Other albums have art that's just too simple. No offense to the artists. But, for example, Kong in Concert is just a banana peel. Relics of the Chozo's a scene from the game, albeit reworked to look better. The only one that really would catch my eye, if these were in a store(assuming that seeing Kirby on the cover of an album is normal), would be Dark Side of Phobos.
Granted, there are great albums with simple covers out there (The White Album comes to mind), but thats just not what I had in mind for this one.

Well, I have more news on the art. I spoke with our artist. To put it, we're redesigning these bosses for a bio section for the project website.
Each character will be remodeled with a new, updated design, to fit with a more rock, sorta look. Maybe a little bit darker, maybe a little bit more expensive...
For example, the one instance I was talking about with gts (the artist, if you all forgot), Sephiroth would have a sleeveless trenchcoat, with a Jenova-Life Double-Helix like tattoo on his arm. And a new hairdo. Something along those lines. Anybody with suggestions, throw them in. I want to see bowser's mowhawk fade to black, personally.
The other example I had in mind was TGMP in a hot tub, in yellow-brown stained water. Bits of who-knows-what floating around. A gross mental image, but it gets the job done.
Dont forget, on the work are Seph, Bowser, Dr. Wily, Ganondorf (the human one, not the pig-demon one), and Magus. But, all of them are getting a "makeover", so to speak, so any of them would be good. We're always ready for suggestions.
Oh, and yes, Wily's on keybord.
Pimptastic, as it were.

I actually had 3 ideas for King K.rool
1.k.rool dressed like ozzy biting the head off a bat or another DKC character.
2.k.rool wearing a black shirt that says KCDC
(spoofing on ACDC)
3. k.rool dressed as a pimp (doubt that will work)
If I think of any others I'll let you know

Well, I got the idea after playing Sarfox Command for a while, what if StarWolf was represented as a street gang, that would be including Wolf, Leon, Panther, maybe Pigma. I never liked him.
Also, what would people think If we changed the name to "Crescendo to Catastrophe"? Its a little busy, but they are already making Project Chaos, and it just feels weird that there are going to be two projects with "Chaos" in the name
I can see where you're coming from with the two "chaoses", though I would probably opt for a shorter word for the foreigners in mind. **pokes Nineko**

I was thinking... some of these bosses have a reputation on the line.
Bowser for example. Orchestral, or rock? I think some of the tracks here are expected to sound a certain way. We wouldn't want Bowser's piece to end up as an over-interpreted orch/trance nightmare.
What does everyone here think? Some of these pieces should be restricted, right? I think so... what about you?
Also, I'm going to throw in... Sephiroth has three themes, right? "Those Chosen by The Planet", "Birth of a God", and, of course, "One Winged-Angel". Maybe those three should be as a medley, as we were discussing a few pages back, OWA has been done over and over, for the games and movies, and doing it alone would be a ludicrous attempt at redoing what has already been done and redone to death. Manji, are you listening? We got you to do Seph, right?
Questions? Comments?

i think some tunes prob should be restricted a lil in terms of style. The restriction prob should just consist of the fact it can't sound completely different from the style and context of the boss and the game they're from.
As far as the sephiroth thing goes, just to do one winged angel remix would be kinda redundant, unless it's in some kinda crazy style that's really unique.

I once attempted to remix the Andross theme. Maybe I should revisit it?
Pocketman, it's one thing to keep genres the same as the original, but to be frank, Bowser's many boss themes have been taken through different genres. I'd say SMB1's boss was pretty "classical" (I'm imagining this on some organ), his boss theme in Yoshi's Island was metal, his music in NSMB sounded more "pop-like" to be frank (though that's probably limitations of the hardware), and his theme as used in Super Mario RPG seems to sound more like it's better set for pitched orchestration. I'd say the genre adaption for Bowser himself is pretty diverse.
Though, whatif some character themes seem to be a little mild? Looking at the multiple Cortex sources though, most of these sound more like they would come straight out of a secret agent movie given the motifs and whatnot, thus counteracting the orchestral/rock/trance aspect of the project. I see this as the more interesting direction to work with, as with what there is in the source tune I could be able to take it into a more free direction.
Again, no matter what, I say it's up to the user to create what kind of adaptation they want. It's not about what genre they pick; it's the way that they do it :)

Well, I get your point, but get what I'm saying. Bowser is one of the most well known bosses around. Personally, I would feel disappointed if his track wasn't something you could mosh to.
I wouldn't want to restrict anyone, but the album has to have the right balance between rock and orchestra. Have you watched Advent Children, or listened to the soundtrack? Go, go out and listen to "Advent: One-Winged Angel". Perfect balance of the two.
From what I've heard, none of the music on OCR (that I can find) has the same feel and intensity. Thats what this album is all about. Blood, sweat, and tears should go into your work. This music isn't yours, its not the composer's. It belongs to their respective characters, and we need to represent those characters properly.
Bowser is known for his balance between chaos, darkness, and comedy. The music should correspond.
Sephiroth has an aura of seriousness and evil. He strikes fear into those around him, while at the same time attracting a huge fanbase for his mannerisms. The music should, again, follow the model of the character it is based upon.
Thats a keyword. Intense. It's not just music, this album has to be an experience. Not just "cool, our albums done. We have some fans.", but "Wow! That track was great! I cant wait to hear the rest of the album!"
EDIT: Yeah, Andross, huh? Go ahead, if you can get a WIP to me soon, or rather, an audition track, maybe? And, going with what's on the front post, maybe making Starwolf's theme into part of it. Like I said, try to keep within rock/orch, anything with seriousness to it.

I guess there is a problem, that so many of those bosses have many different versions of themes. Maybe you should choose exactly what game you want to take their theme from. :?:
Same goes for someone like DeDeDe, pretty much the same song, but different way of doing it from dreamland 1 to 2.

It is strongly encouraged that you limit material being ReMixed to a single game for each submission.-DJP, the FAQ, right here (http://ocremix.org/info/Frequently_Asked_Questions).
I guess I misread that one. I guess not too many remixes with 2+ games are out there, most different games might be hard to mix like that. They'd have to be similar in style, or from the same series to really make it work.
... or someone could prove me wrong?

I've heard some medleys of wildly different songs from different series that work just fine, for example (http://dod.vgmix.com/past/sepoct05/ansgaros-Medley-Somber-DoD.mp3). It just takes some ingenuity and thought on the part of the remixer.

I've got to be honest here, I think we've hit a wall. The discusion is barely helping the project at most times, and no news concerning the tracks or artists themselves has come up in a while.
So, whats the next step? Its too early to ask for a move to general. I can't think of any other artists to contact, for the most part. And it isn't like there is anything I can personally do to help along the mixes to move faster.
I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions, or should we just sit and wait?

We were talking about new character designs earlier, maybe there are some suggestions?
Also, I was thinking about bundling some wallpaper into the Torrent when the whole thing was done. The only one I can think of so far is parodying the "Dogs Playing Poker" art, with five or six of the villians not featured on the album art. Gary Oak, Wolf O'Donnel, you get it.

You know, I really, REALLY wish someone had told me about this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_bosses) before we started. It's a shame, really. Over 100 bosses too chose from, and we're stuck with... well, you see what we have up there. I'm thinking, when we make it into General, of re-doing the vote, excluding who we've already got assigned.
...And you know what? Exactly what I thought would happen, has happened. We made those forums, for WIPs and art... we have 4 users signed up. One being me, one being POCKETMAN, and he isn't even doing any music! Wheres the spirit, the enthusiasm? Or maybe we can just sit here and rot.
Everyone has said so far this is a good idea, that it was a great concept, and... what do we have to show for it? A stagnating forum, and I'm getting sick of it. Seriously, has anyone else noticed this? Here's DarkeSwords guidelines:
 "Come up with a concept". Check
 "Contact artists you want on the project... at least 5". Check
 "Create a recruitment/interest generation thread in the ReQuests... to tell people about what you want to do and to find people to join". Check
 When you have around 2/3s of your total tracks assigned to artists, create a new thread in General to officially begin the organization of your project and contact me (DarkeSword). [To] give your project some front page exposure, and potentially attract artists who may not have seen your initial recruitment thread.
OK...
11/[25-30]. Thats half to a third of it, but I don't think sitting here is going to get much more done. Tell me, loyal fans, do you think the time is right? To let the world know of our existence, and break the chains of conventional Site Projects? To.. aw, whatever...
And, two things I noticed on the front page. V___ and watkinzez both expressed interest, but never chose tracks. Are either of you listening? Where have you been the past three months?
Humans and Gears. Now, I don't have anything against them. We have our way of doing things, they have theirs. But, I know someone who started to call them sister projects, because we were the last two projects before about 5 others decided to start something up. If they over there are listening, I would be honored to have a sister project, and with that, the knowledge that, at any given time, we both have a place to lean on if our projects ever run into trouble, be it with the mixes, the art, the OCR community, or whatever. Are you listening, rpggamer180? Avaris? What do you think?
*sigh*... wow, that took a lot outta me. Anyone who says TLDR gets a kick in the ass.
Well you gotta hand it to those project leaders who suddenlly snap.At least they can be quite amusing when they do.
But look at it this way,if your project is succesful, you can eaventually do a cressendo to chaos 2 which would include other boss arrangements that you missed like, say streets of rage
All projects experience a slow-mo state at some point, but I'm fairly confident yours will pick back up in time

Thanks. I guess there much better than a nervous breakdown to bring in some interesting conversation. And as much as this is jumping the gun, I was considering a CtC2, but as some sort of manager who stays there the whole time, but doesn't really do much. What I really want to see is a Jazz album. In the same style as this one, but with good guys, not bosses. Same style of art, too. The album cover would be Sonic, Mario, and Link playing in a club, maybe the Lon Lon "Milk Bar", in Zelda.
Of course, if anyone steals this idea, I'll hunt you down, disembowel you, and feed on your entrails. I just had a mental breakdown, if you've forgotten.
