The Sig_shoppe returns

It would appear that in my absence (don't ask) the sig shoppe disappeared from existence. Not that I am really surprised but I would like to get it up and running again.

For those of you who don't know, the sig_shoppe is a free photobucket full of sigs from various artists that are free to use, edit, or just have. I started it as a result of the growing number of sig requests in the sig request thread in TA&N section. The sigs are sorted by artist and the BBcode is listed below the picture so all you need to do is copy and paste. The only thing we request is that you plug the shoppe in your sig.

I am now accepting most if not all submissions for any free sig that the artist wishes to have added.

As for the shoppe itself, clearly I can't keep it up alone. I am seeking an assistant who can help me sort submissions and generally just keep the shoppe nice, full, and running. Please e-mial me at Maco70@gmail.com if you are interested.

Please post submissions here and/or send me a PM. It's hard for me to keep track when the e-mail alerts suddenly stop.

Anyway, the sig_shoppe is open once again.

Hooooooly shit, I guess photobucket has improved immensly since I have been away. No more need to worry about filling the shoppe too fast. We've got tons of space to work with. We are currently using 2.91% of our availible space. Which is .03/1 Gigs we have to use. Lets fill it up, shall we? :D

Update soon, but I'd also like to toss out a reqest for the people who work with the shoppe. I see those little banners that everyone has in their sigs "Donnie Darko Fan" comes to mind. I'd like something like that for the sig shoppe. That big ol' banner we used before was clunky. Something small and attention grabbing. Anyone want to take a shot at it?

A picture doesn't nessisarily need to be reworked at all. Just something someone can use for a sig on the spot or add their name to it and make it their own sig.

Pictures found on the internet are fair game, mainly because this is not for profit. But also because I've used piccs from websites in sigs and I nnever thought about them not being fair game.

I would highly recomend against using things from DA. But webcomics should be fine as long as the site name is on the sig somewhere.

I saw some videos at a small town video rental place 'bout five years ago, but I don't know.

All I know is that it came on at the same time as ReBoot did on a different channel, and I ended up just watching that. Do miss it though.

In the Name That ScreenShot thread, I posted the Closit Monster. The site I found it on was the only site I could find of the show anywhere on the internet. I later found its Wiki page (deffinantly a stub!) and its only sources were that one page I found before and another site that wasn't much more than an episode listing.

Personally, I think sig making should involve more than just taking a picture and then putting your name on it. You have hundreds of possibilities of what to do with the original pic, if only changing the colors a little or combining it with an another image.

But there are always exceptions, some images will only get worse if you tamper with it, and sometimes you can make great sigs by just cropping your favorite part of it. And since BDS could only use Paint, the possibilities of what to do are few. It looked simple at the first glance, but since it was made of a comic, the joke would have been lost if you had done anything with the original image, so leaving it as it is might have been a good choice.

I think 300 x 90 pixels is a good standard for sigs. If DJP would strictly enforce a resolution (and size limitation) like this, then the forums would load much more efficiently.

My more detailed ones don't take more than a 30 minutes. I never put a huge amount of detail into sigs. Ask someone more pro though, because my sigs are sub par at best.

The job itself doesn't take long time, it's when I try to come up with a good design that takes most time. Seriously, I spent like 30 minutes trying to make one font fit with the rest of the image by trying different sorts of layer effects on my last sig.

yup, finding pic, or render, and putting them together is the main part. after that, playing with the layers is fun and a matter of minutes if you know what you do.

Manic Cinq, tossing filters together is never a good idea. Reason being that it is so blatantly obvious that you've done so. Like Douli said, it is experimentation and personal touches. Realize that there are many ways to skin a cat when it comes to photoshop.

You can put a stroke around the text, preferrably a very brigfht color so that the text becomes more readable. Those lens flares are well placed though.

After thinking it over, I would like to keep the avatars a little distanced from the sigs. By that I mean, I will lump them together on the front page, outside the specific artist headings.
