Just checking in, reminding everybody I'm not dead, just on one helluva dry streak. Foxhull, I do have some ideas for the Awakening Remix (I DID have them down but FLStudio decided to be a bitch and crash) and I'm currently bouncing around ideas for Steel Giant (Rap remix anybody? Maybe trance, but more likely rap). As for INvasion, thats on the back-burner as I'm still on the fence about it, the problem I have with that track is that there's so damn much to it (it crashes my Sonar every time) which means I'll probably need to reconstruct it from the ground up even if I were to keep the arrangement, and I figure it might be better off to restart, but iono, I've changed my mind so many times on that project. Also, I've been working on Absynth and z3ta+ patches for quite a while along with a Reaktor instrument so expect those soon.

That's cool Doomsday we all run into dry spells, but usually when u break out of em is when you do some of your best music, at least that's true in my case.

Siamey you can do as many mixes as you want. If you are wanting to use a source tune that is already claimed then we'll have to see if we can figure something out if it's plausible.

Also Taucer just has to make some final recordings on his. If I actually sat down one whole day I could prob get a 95% finished version of my Aveh mix. Ziwtra's is also movin along really fast too...god I love that mix. I gotta say we got a lot of progess on a lot of the songs though which is friggin awesome IMO.

Bad news but things are looking like I'm going to be droppping out of this. I'm making absolutely no progress on my mixes and video game remixes in general have dropped off my priorities, for the most part I'm going on hiatus from the VGmixing scene until I improve myself as an artist in original compositions. I'm willing to assist in overall mixdowns, review and critique, providing samples or sounds for those who need them (drum, synth, or otherwise), and other odds and ends but hammering out a full mix looks unlikely for me. I wish you guys the best of luck though and I'll be sure to download it when its done.

Hi everybody! I'm sorry about not meeting the second deadline. I know it's no excuse, but I've been relatively busy with school and other personal matters. However, I have still been working with music. I've composed the music for a school play, wrote a song for a music theory class, finished an album, and am now working on a second album. Anyway, I've been getting some good ideas as to where I should take my WIP for this project. If all goes well, I should have an update up on the project boards in a week or two.

I've posted this in the project forums, but I'm reposting it here so it will get noticed quicker, it's about the HUGE collab we've got going on for the arrangement of Awakening.

If you haven't yet heard it, go check it out in the project forums, I've gotten a decent amount of work done.

Also, is there any clarity as to which people are exactly involved in collabing, and WHO will be doing WHAT?

So far I've made up a list from reading the topic:

- Foxhull -> Guitar
- Taucer -> Guitar?
- Doomsday -> was going to do the drum sequencing? Not sure
- Prophet of Mephisto -> Sax Soloing?
- Fishy -> Guitar
- Me/Tensei-San -> Arrangement (+ Guitar if necessary)
- Avaris -> provides samples/sequencing if necessary


Can everyone involved confirm this list (If they're on this forum, that is), or if they want to do something else or more (For example if I've put you down for guitar, but you happen to have some bitchin string samples, and would be willing to sequence the strings as well, please tell me)

Haha there is a track called 'Life ~ Faraway Promise' in Chrono Cross. The beggining of it sounds like a cross between Omen and Schala's theme.

We did have two different people doing faraway promise at one time but both switched to different songs. Def the the best source tune left IMO next to the Beggining of the End.

Sweet it's the midi labeled distant promise. It's basically a slimmed down version of Small Two Pieces that just focuses around the melody.

well.. if I were you, I would put some awesome electronica beatboxing, like prodigy or so. Normally, the "easier" the source tune is, the grade of originality and flexibility in your mix is bigger. More complex songs often requiere more precise and resembling mixes for the listener to say "Hey.. this is a mix of that tune".

Big announcements:

First off Jewbei and I are going to collab on June Mermaid for the Gears Disc. It's goin to be a trance song with plenty of crazy FX processing.

Also I'd to welcome aboard CHIPP Damage and MaZe. CHIPP Damage is going to do a 'Melodic Power Metal' arrangement of the 'Valley Where the Wind is Born.' And MaZe is goin to do a trance version of Faraway Promise. :)

Last announcement is about the final mastering business. Due to the large track count and time demands of getting RAW wavs of the master tracks and then mastering them we are dropping this from the project. So everyone will be mastering their own songs.

As soon as I get ahold of Foxhull we can outline future plans as things develop further.

Thanks for allowing me to join the project so late in the process. I'm gonna do my best to make a quality melodic power metal remix of Valley Where the Wind is Born. I think it will kick ass!

I AM gonna have to find someone to produce the drums and bass, since those two instruments will be fake, and my computer isn't compatible with Soundfonts. At least that's what it seems like. But don't worry, it's gonna kick ass!

We got two more mixers joinin up. Andyjayne is going to give an 80's prog style rendition of Leftovers from the Dreams of the Strong. Nutritious' mix will be electronic based on the gears disc. The source tune has a lot of depth so regardless of your tastes you should find one of the mixes to your liking. Also DragonAvenger is goin to lay down some vocals on myself and Jewbei's trance style remix of June Mermaid.

OK so a lot of people have struggled with the last few WIP deadlines due to the fact everyone has very different schedules. Another quick WIP deadline won't do any of us any good.

Come next JAN 15th we need near finished songs from everyone. If an artist does not show any progress on their WIP, their tracks will be reopened for anyone to choose.

If we can get in around 25 solid tracks come this date then the project will be released shortly after.

Obviously if you just joined this might be a tight schedule. If you need more time to finish your song after JAN 15th we'll give it to you. For anyone else who needs some time after the 15th who has shown progress on their track time will be given to you.

If you need feedback on your mix between then and now please post it on the private forums. If you are not getting enough feedback on the forums it's ok to PM or IM people you know to get feedback.

Yeah, I am sorry about that. I've been a little bit busy with other projects at the moment. I did take a look at that midi, but it was so full and fast that it wasn't something I could just poke at for a few minutes. Just go ahead and do what you like with it for now.

Trust me on this, samples will get you a higher end quality on something this ridiculous then live drums will unless you have a real professional studio.

Hmmm damn this isn't easy. IMO it would def have to be one of these three:

Tamusu the Man of the Sea: If Zikon could write some of his killer chords behind this and then you can add do some of your writing on top of it, it could make for a really kick ass song.

The Blue Traveler: This is a lil more uplifting with a good rhythm goin on. Def lots of elements to work with that your guys styles could enhance.

Pray for the People's Joy: It's def BGM but it has an awesome feel. Could make for a nice solemn and sweeping orchestral arrangement. Having sections with a faster tempo with this source could go really well IMO.

Ooh by the way, I couldn't find the live-performer thread in the project forums, but I got my hands on a (lefty) bass so I can lay down some wicked basslines now. The REALLY fast stuff I'll have to do with a pick, but I can achieve some decent speed with fingers and I can do some (simple) slapping as well. So anyone who needs a live bass knows where to find me, right? :D

I didn't! I have only very recently borrowed it from someone, and it's pretty easy to learn for someone who plays guitar. I'll have a look at that song and see if I can play it :)

Check out the updated track list from there. If there is a track already taken that you are interested let me know and we prob work something out. Blue Laguna has the full OST available. There are midis out there for every track too. Some aren't on vgmusic but we've managed to track em down.

Soooooooo. Awakening. Megacollab. Arrangement Near Done. People who want to play guitar? I got myself and Fishy down already, we have room for 1/2 Rhythm Guitars, a Clean/Acoustic, and a Bass.

Alrighty over the last few months I have been in contact with a lot of people from the project. Basically we all need to get on it and finish our songs! We got tons of songs that are almost done.

For the final songs I'll need a 192 kbps mp3. (the file size does not matter) And wav files as a lossless format.

If anyone has trouble uploading a wav file let me know and I'll give you my user name and password for my ftp on the tha sauce. That way you can just upload there and I can pull it off.

Great work over the past few months progressing on the songs everyone! Now we just gotta pull this together and put the finishing touches on our songs!

If anyone is having trouble finishing their songs please let me know I will do whatever I can to help you finish.

Hey thanks for the interest dude. We are pretty lenient in terms of allowing multiple mixes of the same song as long as they are in different styles. The problem is the arrangement of Awakening currently being worked on for the project is done in a rock style too.

It sounds pretty good so far. Taucer left some really good critiques in the WIP thread on it. Good luck dude!


Edit: Lookin forward to your finished mix Nutritious. Also everyone head over to the forums to check out Prometheus' finished Lost Broken Shards... mix.
