Nice, didn't know you guys were gonna try to follow through with the collab idea so quickly. Nice to see you guys goin through with it, def an excellent idea as long as they right people come along. Waiting to see what tha Prophet has come up with.

As a joke maybe djp should get to do the "Far Promise" track and then flood the pm boxes of all those mixers who submitted the 9 "far promise" mixes in 2001 as an ironic twist of fate.

We'd been planning the project itself for awhile; I only got the idea for the collab project shortly before I posted it in the xenogears project thread. Ran the idea past Brad and he liked it, so we decided to go with it.

So many projects. ;_;

I dunno about the collab concept...due to the way I record my piano MIDIs, it might be difficult to work with someone else, unless they also play a live instrument (such as my collab with Anthony Lofton for the upcoming Tales project). The other ideal scenario is if somebody is good at piano arrangements but unsatisfied with their performance skills, in which case I'll perform their work (e.g. Blak_Omen's "Waltz of Pain").

Anyway, I'm interested in "Under the Moonlight" and "Portal to Open Ground." If any of the unposted remixers have any good ideas for either of those and are interested in a collab, by all means post 'em up. :)

This sounds like my cuppa tea.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to kick myself into gear, because I have to finish my "Transport" album and do a track for another project, but if I can manage that then I'll be in for sure.

this is the idea, dhsu. there are a significant amount of good performance and arrangement talent that we've invited, so hopefully you can find a person to work with. if you can't, that's fine - more meat for me =)

i'll post more about the details of the project later today - it's 4am, and i just started my work shift (unfortunately). i'll be back in ten hours or so.

I'm going to be honest: I don't really have time for another project :(

But...it's Mitsuda, so I can't NOT be involved :)

I really want to contribute like two tracks to this thing, but I doubt I'll be able to contribute more than one.

And, yes I'm taking David up on his challenge to do whichever song he picked for me.

If anybody has any good ideas for it shoot me an email. I won't be able to really work on it until at LEAST September.

I actually seem interested in this, although I am currently without a decent work setup for six weeks.

Dhsu, I see your problems with the whole collab thing. It could work out if you could find a renderer like GrayLightning did to some of your prior tracks, or as you said a dual instrument thing. I know it got hard concerning what happened with the Tales project, but trust me, something will come of it.

Whichever happens, I'm game for this. I really love the Radical Dreamers music, being one of the most beautiful scores I ended up coming across in quite a while (and yes, I'm aware some tracks were used in Chrono Cross but original comes first :P).

Wow, I'm honored to have been invited to participate in this! I feel my particular strengths are:*Creating new / original chord progressions, which I feel can help separate remixes from their source track. (However original a chord progression can get. =P )

*Guitar/bass guitar (I can do live recording and play in multiple styles.)

*I'm the most comfortable with rock music, so if anyone's interested in making a rock mix...Of course, I'm up for trying anything. =)

speaking of tracks -
TRACKLIST
See first post.

as you can see, the rexy/dar collab, sirrus/sephfire, sleepy emp, and ellywu2 are not on the project officially because they never updated. if they want to, they can get back in - till then, we're not listing them.

we're moving along well! we're ALMOST DONE!

We're planning on a release at magfest, barring anything unforseen. we'll open and post the website after the 'concert' release party thing.

OA (www.oceansend.com) has offered to host, do the website, and has done a bunch of songs too =) He's already set up a forum off of his site (get the link from me, project mixers) and so we're using that for posting WIPs and the link. Bongo Bill offered to mirror for us.

We've got a forum where we're posting the WIPs and all that - if you've got a WIP and need to post it, pm a project member. They'll hook you up.

That all said, thank you for being interested/participating, and this has really turned out to be a fantastic project with some incredible mixes on it. props to all the mixers on this project that have done such great work.

see you all in january!

2. It is finished in a remotely short amount of time. Lets face it - most projects nowadays last at least 6-10 months. They shouldn't. They do because mixers sit on their lazy asses and never finish anything. I am well aware you're busy - I'm taking 20 credits this fall, working full-time, mixing for a movie and a game, and I have a girlfriend - but that's why we're giving you three months or so to do your track. We'll set a WIP deadline after school starts back up, but after that if your WIP isn't on time and you don't tell me why, I'll cut you from the project.

I like you.

I finish my project tunes fairly quickly, then spend ages touching them up, then overtouch them, then child services arrest me, and by the time i get out of jail I need to restart the mix cos Iv improved and have different ideas.

Listning to the soundtrack and LOVING it, great choice for a project. I'm REALLY wanting to do mix but my net access is sparadic and limited so the collab idea would probably screw me over. I'm still thinking of doing a mix of this though, its almost a crime not to... (/me glances at 'Days Of Summer')

Actually whats the criteria for the collab? How much has to be done together etc? Cos I'm have alot of ideas, but need help on drums and production...

As I have (I think) mentioned to some of you already, I think we may end up having to allow multiple arrangements of some songs, since it's such a short soundtrack.

EDIT: also, I'm still not entirely sure I want to redo Canvas; It's a really great source, and I think a lot could be done with it that we didn't do in Canvas due to blending it with Relm's theme.

ktriton
08-14-2006, 05:22 AM
Right, so I'm doing "Final Confrontation". But like I said, while I definitely want to contribute to this project, I'd be happy to take the backseat on this one.

So if any newb is interested in trying his or her hand at composition, you have pretty much a month to shoot me an idea. If I like it, I'll go with it and involve you in it. If I don't get any ideas I'll just go ahead and make my own arrangement.

Me and LAOS are thinking of doing an acoustic piano/guitar duet. So in that case, "Day of Summer" would be the most likely candidate. That's not to say it's final though, since I still like "Portal" quite a bit.

I don't know whether to end up picking The Girl who Stole the Star or Frozen Flame (the latter which I ended up remixing before (http://rexy.vgpiano.com/music/Chrono_Cross_Where_Force_Stood_Still.mp3)). DragonAvenger

I'll off myself up for vocals if anyone's interested.

I have a mix of Dream of a Shore as done with Retlaf. It was based off of Chrono Cross, but I don't know if the lyrics or anything might be applicable, I'll offer them up though. The mix is down in my sig (Hallucination of Another World).

Also, because I'm nowhere near my mp3 player, I forget if this soundtrack has the theme used in Radical Dreamers (Chrono Cross). If so, I wrote a version of the lyrics in english that fits the melody, again up for use.

If you are going to have the vets collab on the final track, why not have the n00bs collab on the first track (with a little guidance...if needed)?

Started 'Days of Summer', is coming on decently so far... Who here uses Reason?

I totally want The Girl who Stole the Star. Please.

A Vet should totally get on that with me.

EDIT: I forgot to ask a few questions I have. First, seeing as the Radical Dreamers and Chrono Cross soundtracks are so similar, I was thinking having like a second "bonus" album or just bonus tracks of songs only in Chrono Cross would make fans happy. I dunno, just an idea.

And second, what's the story on medleys? Are you completely counting them out, or what?

I would assume vet = someone with a song on OCR (not a feature, a personal arrangement) and a n00b = the opposite of a vet.

And -RK-...I'll think about giving it up if I can find another song that gives me ideas....I want to do a semi-acoustic song so bad.

Edit: This guy reuses so many melodies/progressions...

Edit2: Alright, I may to do a rendition of "Facing".

Well yes, it's true that we were working on that, though it was for the Dwelling of Duels. But now that our cover's been blown, then... ohok.

I can't classify myself as a "vet" given I've had more rejections from the panel than passes, but I'll still be ok to keep Distant Promises going for project purposes.

alright. it took me way too long to get caught up on all this crap.

first off, i've got no problem with RK and Taucer working on GWSTS. i've got a lot of faith in both mixers to make something awesome (as usual). don't forget that darangen/rexy (go for it, you two!) are also doing that theme. you're going to have to make sure your arrangement is sufficiently different from theirs to make it fit into the project...but you will, i'm sure. whistle power, activate.

fishy's in for guitar, dragonavenger's in for vocals (you're a girl, right?), and drumultimaaaaaaa is in for drums (however, he doesn't play tablas. what use is he?)

prometheus has asked to do snakebone manor with me, and i'm inclined to accept. however, i don't want to take tracks from others, so as of right now that's all i'll do is the two tracks i'm in right now.

sixto's in. werd. he's a shredder who solos exceptionally well on electric guitar. and gets run over by forklifts. somehow. he also owes us over at LAProject a track =)

ellywu2 wants either Days of Summer or Strange Presentiment. i say he can pick either - i love his music. i'd prefer he picks strange presentiment, however - its a minimal amount of sourcetune, and i would trust his arrangement abilities over that of someone with less proven (20 or so mixes on vgmix) talent. i feel it'd sound good with bigbeat stuff too, which is what i love the most about ellywu2's music.

OA has offered to do art eventually (samples, please!) and host a site, and Bongo Bill will mirror eventually. There's some kid who's decent from deviantart, too - i liked his stuff too. i guess we've got a bit of a competition for artwork, too!

chavous is looking at 'facing'. any progress on that? should i sign you up for it?

drumultima wants to do an acoustic version of Days of Summer with someone. any takers? maybe blizihizake, who's looking at it too, would help you out.

V wants to do Days of Summer as well. i use reason - pm me if you've got a question, man. assuming you're using reason 2.5, i can do your production/drums through rewire in fl6. since fl6 is so much better at production than reason 2.5.

dhsu and LAOS are also looking at Days of Summer. that's four people looking at it. anyone want to look elsewhere for ideas? the second half of the soundtrack still needs help. Maybe, you two, you could look at Epilogue as well - there's a lot of creativity that could happen on that track.

i'll say this flat out - i don't want four mixes of the same track. that's too repetitive, and it'll end up being too much. if i had my way, i'd give it to drumultima (loved his wip) and blizihizake (if they work together, that'd be even better). v, i'd rather you looked at other songs - how about 2/17? i'm not telling you to kill your wip, though - i just don't want a ton of mixes of DOS. i'd like to make it only two mixes of this particular tune, if possible. it depends on who works with who, of course.

as for the final song, i was thinking about working with me (sax, vocals), taucer (whistle, acoustic), drumultima (duh), dhsu (keys), darangen or sixto (electric), and possibly somebody for bass. else i'll record it. what do you think? once i have feedback, i'll start working on the arrangement.

something i was thinking about is a dual cd release - but, have it be that each cd has the complete tracklisting of the original soundtrack - meaning, two sets of the entire soundtrack, remixed. that's a possible way of handling popular themes. that'd only really give us 3-4 remixes of the distant promise track, and two of the days of summer track. what do you say? it'd give dhsu and LAOS another possible candidate for their duet (namely, ending).

ktriton wants arrangement ideas sometime soon for 'Final Confrontation'.

still need updates from ubernym, antisheep, sirrus/sephfire, antipode, and that's about it. everyone who's said they want to work on a track, give me a definate, whether via email or pm, as to what you're working on and we'll go from there. i don't want tracks going uncovered because there's ten remixes of two songs, though - if something's open, please look at that before you sign up for the ninth remix of 'distant shore'. please. i don't want to release this with good tracks from the soundtrack untouched. you also aren't officially part of the project until you've responded with a song to be signed up on. i will say that i'd love to hear what antisheep is able to do with 'epilogue', if Dhsu and LAOS don't want it.

i'll update the original post as soon as this goes through.

Antisheep

Wow! Don't post for 2 days and all the songs are taken. ^_^
i will say that i'd love to hear what antisheep is able to do with 'epilogue', if Dhsu and LAOS don't want it.Yeah, count me in. Should I just start making concepts and then see if any 'vets' want to jump onboard afterward? Or does anyone have an interest in tackling it with me? I'd really like to do some guitar work for whatever mix I do.

Edit: After listening to the Epilogue track a bit more, I really think I want to do something with a latin feel. So if someone's particularly thinking in that direction, PM me or something. =)

antisheep has taken epilogue, and is looking for a vet to help him. think latin feel.

V gave up his claim on Days of Summer, so now we're down to three or four people who want that (drumultima, blizihizake, dhsu and laos, and maybe ellywu2)

OA's site is www.oceansend.com. there's some really nice artwork there. check it out.

EazyP is looking at Epilogue - Dream Shore (3), so that'd be the second remix of the song. looking forward to a track of that.

OA is currently setting up a forum to work off of. i'll be pm-ing the address to everyone, as i don't want passersby getting in. it'll also be password protected completely, and hopefully will include an attachment feature to posts to help with uploading WIPs and stuff. i'll update you when i have more information.

that seems to be the most of the updates as of late.

now, with all of that said, i'd like to point out something. we've still got a few songs that are unclaimed, and i don't know why. Gale (2/17) is really a fantastic battle theme that'd benefit from a great guitar mixer (fishy or sixto?) or a great electronica mixer (read: TRANCE). also, Frozen Flame (10/17) which Rexy was looking at, is still open. That's another great track that'd benefit from any attention. i wouldn't mind the sephfire/sirrus combo doing one of those two - preferably Frozen Flame.

Due to being asked to, i'm gonna have a stab at Gale. I thought it might be quite cool to collab on it with sixto though on reflection, we could have a guitar duel or something, that would be awesome. How does that sound?

I'm in Ocean City right now, I won't be back to my computer until the 23rd. However, I've been brainstorming a lot. My idea for that mix could really benefit from some acoutic guitar. However, if Dhsu and Laos really want it, would it be unreasonable to have a 4 way collab? If they come up with something better than what I'm doing I'll understand, I could probably take something else. blizihizake, I don't know much about you. Talk to me :D

first of all, everyone who's on this project needs to register at the forum. talk to anyone who's there already - RK, me, taucer, drumultima, sixto, oa, etc - and get the link.

there's been some progress, so far, which is good. i've got my first song almost done, and another one which is still in basic WIP form but is looking good. we've got five other wips on the forums, and all of them are pretty decent. however, many of them haven't been updated in almost a week or two - i'd appreciate some progress on that front. there really is some great stuff so far (nice stuff, ellywu2) but there's still a lot of people who haven't posted wips.

prometheus's wip for snakebone mansion (involving me on sax) will be on the forums sometime soon.

i still need to hear WIPs from blizihizake, the sephfire/sirrus combo, antisheep, ktriton (i know you're bogged down right now, i'm just doing this for fyi), darangen/rexy, something substantial from fishy/sixto, eazyp...and i think that's about it. wips are nice, people, let's get going!

ubernym needs to decide what he's doing on this project, still.

at some point in the next week or two, i'll post on the forums an idea for the final collab song. after everyone's heard that, we'll go from there - if it needs more work, that's fine, else we can just start recording from there. I'm planning on doing something with Dhsu or Rexy on piano, Taucer on acoustic guitar, Fishy or Sixto or Antisheep on electric guitar, DrumUltima on drums, Me or Antisheep on bass (i don't particularly want to do bass), and me on saxophone.

I've done some work on this soundtrack before (see my only ocremix) and I'd like to help in some small capacity. I can play bass and write/arrange/sequence. I don't have a huge amount of time but I could do a small collab or something.

Also, you won't have heard anything from sixto cause his part in it is during the solo, which i havent got around to yet, all in due time. I just wanted to let you know that I think I'mma have to step down from doing the project. I was kind of skeptical about it from the first, but I now know that I really have no time anymore. So, I hope you guys find somebody to fill my spot (might I suggest CPacaud--hopefully his schedule is a bit freer than mine)!

Anyway, good luck! If you need me for a synth/piano solo or something, I can still totally do that as it'd go pretty quickly, but I just don't have the time anymore to do much free stuff.

Hope everything goes well!

Just wanted to say...

Haven't thought about this project in around 3 months.

Not to be a dick about it, but I put over a hundred hours on my last paycheck. I come home and sleep. I missed the last CMC, PRC, and I'm trying to put a secret project of my own together. For collabs; Sir Nuts asked for me earlier this week, as well as a million things on the backburner... then I already said I was interested in the SMRPG remix project, the DKC2 (when it arrives) project, and I'm helping to finish off the Link's Awakening Project... and I actually HAVE something for that one.

If I can collab I can collab... but I believe my statement from the start, to Drum primarily I believe, was that I would gladly provide guitar recording(s) if someone wrote music for me.

I'm here, but contributing isn't a high priority. That's all.

...

I think I really just wanted to vent. I probably shouldn't post thi-

Aight.

Sorry, those last few posts were really assholey.

I have no excuse.

It all kind of goes back to inspiration; since Drum's phonecall a few months ago I seriously forgot all about what he had in mind... and I had nothing really to practice except maybe the chords to the melody (which, to be honest, I'm already a little sick of)

I probably shouldn't have said I would do anything in the first place...

BUT

I am still here, I am still supportive, and I am still willing to attempt to play & record music written for me.

Sorry again.

If I don't come up with any new inspiration by new years I'm gonna drop from the project. Mind you, I'll probably get dropped anyway for not updating in ages by then. I not gonna do it officially just yet though. Never know when ideas might come up.

FEBRUARY 3RD

i'd like finished tracks by this point. we NEED to get moving along before the semester really starts to kick in.

by this point, if you're not on track to finish by the deadline or soon after, you're off the project. this includes ellywu2, drumultima, dhsu, and the rexy/darangen collaborative effort.

that said, snakebone manor is now up for grabs. the track that Prometheus and i were going to do just didn't pan out, so anyone is free to take the track.

no, fishy, you aren't because you have a recent wip. this is aimed at sleepy emp, ellywu2, sephfire and sirrus (more sirrus), the rexy/darangen collab, and drumultima.

as of this morning, Abadoss has signed on with us. Welcome, Abadoss! i contacted FM a while back about joining up (remember Standing Man from RA, anyone?) but he's too busy with school to do anything. ktriton says that he'll have a wip by tonight, which'd be pretty nice, and i contacted chrono26 from PKMN project to join as well. we'll see what comes from that later today, hopefully.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

No need to get all up in my grill over this.

It was merely a SUGGESTION. There is obviously no way for me to know how each track is being made, and I never meant to imply otherwise.

Nor did I mean to imply that any sort of MIDI ripping (as in, note-for-note copying) should take place. All I meant was that, because of the striking similarity in the music of these two games, it would be less difficult to move on to an album of Cross than, say, an album of Kingdom Hearts (though I would love that, but that's neither here nor there).

It just makes sense that people working on RD music would want to work on Cross music...

don't push yourself, pezman.

the reason we did rd is not only because its an awesome game with awesome music, but also because it hasn't really gotten any love beyond maybe days of summer. the point of this was to really push out something new and exciting from a game that no one really knew or cared about. hell, no one ever played it, either.

we need to finish this project before we go onto another.

to tell the truth, i think it'd be harder to move onto cross after this because we'd have to make music that was based on similar ideas...but we'd have to make them different enough to not be ripping off our own music. that said, i need to make sure that my music (started and otherwise) for laproject, pkmn project, tetrisphere OMP, super dodgeball, my own personal stuff that i'm doing, etc. get done before i start ANOTHER project.
