On a recent run, DMC4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqBFHTHoXv0&) holds up quite well imo as well as NGS.

That looks like fun. To bad DMC2 is the black sheep in the series.

At first I had the impression of them being nothing more than breast pockets... Now I'm not quite sure, gonna have to play again on hard mode to put more thought on it...

Oh yeah Gollgagh the game does have a couple of addons...

Supplemental downloadable content pertaining to the game was made available for purchase via PSN. First is the inclusion of a Hard EX Mode, extra challenging versions of existing skirmish missions where the Edelweiss is unavailable. Two side story chapters, "Edy’s Mission: Enter the Edy Detachment" and "Selvaria's Mission: Behind Her Blue Flame," introduce Squad 7's motliest crew led by Edy Nelson and Homer Pieron, and the early portion of the invasion into Gallia as seen from the Imperial perspective. Hard EX Mode and Edy's Mission were originally released for the Japanese version on August 8, 2008, while Selvaria's Mission was released on October 31 of the same year. All three were made available in North America on April 16, 2009. A fourth DLC, titled "Edy Detachment's Formal Challenge!" was made available in Japan on June 26, 2009. Included are a set of six challenge missions, each focusing on one of the game's unit classes. Valkyria Chronicles was re-released in Japanese retails stores under its The Best label on March 5, 2009 with a retail price of 3,900 Yen. This version of the game includes Edy's Mission without need of download. ~ Wikipedia

DO NOT BUY THE EDY ADD ON!!!!!
It's only one mission and it's pretty easy and corny at that. I heard the other add on is 4 missions long, but you need to do good enough to unlock the later missions. I haven't checked out selvaria's add on but it can't be as bad as the other one.

whaaaaat it was marked down to 20? I got mine for 40

well whatever once I actually have a game, the retail price is irrelevant

I just spent two and a half hours on that first mission against the emperor. I failed it on the first try because I spent 10 turns blockading the big tank with Edelweiss being tanked with Dallas while I had my lancers crawling all over the big tank trying to find its damned weakness. I did that for while, then I decided to pull everyone back to a trench in the middle of the map to see what would happen. Once I destroyed the first weak-point, though, the reinforcements totally raped everyone that was in the trench and the only reason I didn't fail for of losing all my allies was because I was out of turns too.

The second time around, I still got raped by the reinforcements, but fortunately, my only squadmember that "died" was Largo.

Valkyria Chronicles only made me sad in that it felt too short by the end, even though I apparently put in 55 hours in it. Just shows the quality of a game when you don't realize you're pushing into 100 hours of gameplay without much realizing it. And I thought I breezed through the game. Still haven't finished any side missions at that..

Also, the finale is just very touching. This game needs a sequel, and when it does, people need to buy more copies of it.

I liked the Bayonetta demo too, but the 360 one is apparently the 'flawless edition' since it runs much faster, has sharper textures, brighter colors and no massive screen tearing of the PS3 version. I actually tried out both versions, but the PS3 port is broken beyond compare when next to the 360 version. Sega did an awful job porting it. Otherwise, it really is a spiritual successor to DMC and it feels a lot more brutal too.

Oh, and as for Chapter 14 in Valkyria Chronicles, there's an awfully obvious exploit you can do... Very, very obvious. Otherwise, it's best to advance with multiple units in a unified front where the enemies come from the south. From there, you need to blitzkrieg with the tank mortar and a LOT of sniper fire (have an engineer replenish the ammunition after the third sniper shot).

Unfortunately developers just don't wanna spend the extra cash and time to learn Ps3 architecture and develop for it from the get go (also MS might have something to do with it). If Bayonetta was a Ps3 developed game, porting it to 360 would have been less of a hassle than what they did. There's really no excuse for this anymore really. I would have loved Bayonetta on the Ps3's Dualshock more but oh well~

As for Bayonetta, we need to remember that we're evaluating our experience on a demo rather than the actual game. If anything the issues with the demo ought to be a good enough reason for Sega to really work on the PS3 port before shuffling it out on January...

Curiously can Black Phantoms kill other Black Phantoms or is there a limit to how many can invade one player's game?

I've also noticed certain spells in the faith section can banish B.Phantoms as well.

Oh hey I wanted to add this~!

First Red Dragon kill was annoying but totally worth every arrow...

Oddly enough the Tower Knight isn't necessarily difficult to kill, so long as you can heal your self from times to time, but the mother fucking crossbowmen WILL fuck you up unless you take care of them first.

Like the arrows, you'll want a weapon that can pierce but do enough of a satisfactory amount of damage. I found swords to be best oddly enough as you'd think a spear would be more suitable for piercing its' armor. Spears are good but one problem, they seem to take up more stamina than swords do with similar damage rates; at least from my experience.

Personally I thought my battle axe would shatter its armor but noooooo I may as well be hitting it with a plastic toy mallet.

You guys buy games way too fast for me. I've still only got 3 games and I haven't completed them enough to warrant buying a new one. Of course, that will all change come February. I think Star Ocean 4 International will be my first pre-ordered game ever.

I still haven't played Valkyria Chronicles or Disgaea 3 so I can't add to that discussion yet, although I do plan to in the semi-near future. Right now I'm really interested in the game Trine that was just recently released. Multi-player cooperative physics puzzles sound neat. I hope my wife will be able to get into it, as I'm looking for a replacement for the good old FF Crystal Chronicles that we used to play together on the Wii.

Why not just keep playing Crystal Chronicles? Having more than one console just bothers the heck out of me for some reason. I need a sense of completion. Hahaha. I laugh but it's true.

One question: Can you play any PSP game on your PS3? The whole reason I don't play portable games is because I'd rather play on my couch with a TV. I'd so go for the FF Tactics remake and Idol Master if I could play them on my TV, though.

Is Demon's Souls really as cool as the videos say? Could someone compare it's gameplay to another game?

It's very good and I could try comparing but I'd say it's something you'd have to experience yourself. Plus there really isn't a game that I can think of that would be a fair comparison to DS. I could say Devil May Cry compared to God of War perhaps but I can't think of anything close to the feeling of Demon's Soul's as it feels like a true, western Fantasy; perhaps D&D-ish in a very good way but without the dice business.

Expect it to be very challenging, as you will die a lot. In my opinion they did pretty well bringing a realistic feeling towards the game but at the same time kept it fun as well.

So the other day I was itching to play me some burnout paradise, I decided to download it. Easy, right? Wrong.. For some reason It claims there is not enough space on the hdd... which is false. I have at least 15GB free.. Can any one provide some insight?

how much space is the download

I believe it needs at least double the space: half for the installer, half for the actual game

Ya know I was tempted to put up an image to express my extreme hatred towards it but instead...

I certainly do not and never will buy it for the PS3 considering that'd be me saying it's okay for them to shit all over the PC side as well. Plus it's criminally short in a bad way. Also I've "borrowed" it for the PC to see what it had to offer and I was right in regards to being nothing but eye candy and shoddy multiplayer; deleted it as soon as I started to get mad at it more.

it's quite short for single-player, yeah. not really a single-player game, though. even with just two players it gets MUCH longer.

it's still short. but i understand where you're coming from.

I'm busy trying to get the uncharted 2 plat. All I need to do is get the rest of the treasures and beat it on crushing mode. (I'm on lvl 3) Oh yea, I also need to get 200 kills with the minigun weapon. It's kind of a pain to run upstairs and look at the web for the trophys and then run downstairs to go find them. But i'll manage.

I've joined the PlayStation 3 club!!! Bahamut and bustatunez (aka Will aka Lukas) gave Jill and I an EXTREMELY generous gift of the PS3 (120gb) as well as SIX games: Tekken 6, Uncharted 1 & 2, Valkyria Chronicles, COD4:MW and Ratchet & Clank. We were stunned by their generosity and of course, extremely thankful :D

Nekofrog and I, too, were blessed by Bahamut and bustatunez and showered with PS3 gifts this Christmas. We're really in love with Blu-ray right now and the games we got are really great. Thing is, we also have $20 to spend at the PlayStation Store. What would any of you recommend we spend it on? Having no real PS3 experience at this point, except for seeing a few fleeting moments of "Flower" and "Shatter," we're unsure of what to get that won't be a waste.

Throw out some suggestions, pretty please! We also have two controllers, so multiplayer would be cool, but that doesn't have to be a dealbreaker. Single-player stuff is fine, too.

Blazblue:Calamity Trigger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keQrv_ptXL0) a fighting game in a different vein from Street Fighter 4. (although BB:Continuum Shift may come out soon here as well)

After this I'm done arguing:

E3 '07 showcased almost nothing for the Wii. The Zapper? Useless. That balance board thingie? Who cares? Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 are the only awesome things coming out for the Wii this year.

The 360 has Bioshock, Halo 3 and Blue Dragon. Let's be honest here, Blue Dragon doesn't feel right for the 360. It's never been the expansive role-playing game console but, who knows, maybe this'll make way for other cool RPGs to come. I'd also like to point out that Blue Dragon alone is selling 360's in Japan; about 380,000 consoles sold versus 200,000 copies of the game.

The PS3 totally won E3 (not that it's a competition, but you know what I mean). With such awesome looking games as Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Uncharted, MGS4, Tools of Destruction, FFXIII, FF Versus XIII, Folklore, God of War 3, Infamous, White Knight Story, Heavy Rain, Lair, Warhawk and Little Big Planet. I know quite a few of these won't even be coming out until '08 but, holy shit, what a line-up.

Being pro PS3 sounds worthy enough for the PS3 thread.

So I'm re-reading this thread right now out of sheer boredom (it was here that I discovered that I now read all of Bahamut's posts in his voice -- DAMN YOU), and this post really stuck out to me for some reason. Maybe it's the fact that of these games, a good amount of them aren't even out yet (WKC, FF13, FFv13 God of War 3, Heavy Rain), went multiplatform (FF13), were pretty much terrible (Heavenly Sword, Lair), or were mediocre (Folklore, Killzone 2, MGS4). That leaves Uncharted, Tools of Destruction, Infamous, Warhawk, and LBP as good games.

Keep in mind, this post was made in 2007 -- 2007! And five of the games STILL aren't out yet! For someone who may have spent $600 on a PS3 in 2007 on the promise of these games, this is absolutely unacceptable.

As a general retrospective from someone who just recently became a PS3 owner, I have to say, I would have felt absolutely ripped off and irate at Sony if I were an early adopted. I'd have felt raped, to be honest.

Gone are the golden days of the PlayStation -- the PS1 and PS2. Such great systems...

I'm not entirely sure how I should feel ripped off, I essentially got a media center PC with a blu-ray player that will always meet the standard, pretty much the best up-scaling DVD player on the market and a single device that plays all my PS2 and PS3 games. Granted, I only paid $400 due to a sweet deal I stumbled into, but considering how much I use it to play movies on physical discs and videos stored on my PC, it has been well worth the money. Even if I only used the thing to play PS2/3 games I would be more then happy with my purchase.

AH, so you were generalizing your own disappointment such that EVERY PS3 owner is disappointed and not to the subset of gamers who wanted a strictly gaming machine for brand new games. I say brand new games because the PS2 has a solid game library and for early adopters, you had backwards compatibility. I also assume you were an early adopter and have a right to bitch.

not to be rude or anything, but the ps3 hasn't actually been hacked. geohot got into the kernel, but he can't do anything yet.

not to mention his hack involves some serious hardware stuff that most people around here can't do. like heavy-duty electrical work, soldering and stuff.

this is particularly notable considering that the blu-ray format is basically unhackable until you find a burner that'll also burn the barcode into the center ring, inside the readable disc space. since that's most of why you can't hack a blu-ray - the data's all there, but it needs the authentication code to make it work.

that's on a pc, though. you're talking consoles, a closed DRM-based system. look how long it takes to download a few updates for, say, LBP right now. 100 megs or so of updates...over a half an hour to download and install them. how long would it take for a full ps2 game?

I mean, hell, that's faster than you can torrent the games, unless you're part of a private tracker or something

Your first point is bullshit, by that logic, ALL downloads will interfere with ISP throttling. PSN and XBox live downloads aren't special, they are pretty much a single stream of serial data from a single source like http and ftp downloads, unlike a torrents which is multiple streams from multiple source. It doesn't take much for a routing algorithm to recognized the pattern in a download and start forwarding all related information down the same line with barely any evaluation or actual routing.

Your second point though is likely the only reason we won't see PS2 games anytime soon. People are still buying both PS2 consoles and games, and I doubt Sony wants to touch that cash cow.

You can easily play the second one without knowing the backstory. But if you ever want to play through the first one second, you will be extrememly disappointed because U2 improved just THAT much. You don't have to play the first Uncharted to jump right into 2. I would play through it first though. Like someone said it will be impossible to play through 1 after 2. I made the mistake of playing Dragon Quest IV after V on the DS. It's the same situation, there's a lot of annoying stuff in the first game that really only sticks out after playing the much refined sequel.

memory means RAM, not hard drive space

what it means is that you probably shouldn't be trying to watch narutowire on your ps3

If that's the case, what is taking up my RAM? It hasn't happend before. Is there a way to clear it out?

I'd wager that the browser and the site itself are taking up all of your RAM by themselves

I mean, the PS3 doesn't have a gigantic amount of RAM in the first place (256 MB according to wikipedia)

CC Ricers

So does the PS3 use the RAM for browser cache? It sure looks like it.

this is a relatively major issue, particularly with ISPs throttling bandwidth. downloading files from PSN would interfere with most ISPs efforts to prevent illegal downloading on their networks.

the bigger issue is that the PS2 is still being sold in stores. we won't see PS3 compatibility until sony has stopped sucking that teat for at least two years.

So that explains why there aren't ps3/psp titles on psn that you can buy in stores.... oh... wait...

prophetik
03-23-2010, 09:46 PM
wasn't that post like one or two months ago?

there are tons of PSP titles online, thanks to the PSPgo. and, like the 360, there are a few older titles online for download. they're small, though, compared to most of the stuff available. like FFXIII, for example - it's 42 of the 49 or 50gb available on the blu-ray disc. you want to download 42 gigabytes? what happens to people who have limited monthly bandwidth available for purchases?

Interestingly enough when it aired it was referred to as an animated film rated R for graphic content on HBO. At no point had the term "anime" (as we know it now) came up; just "animated feature/movie".

Nonetheless they were awesome regardless of the content.

http://kotaku.com/5533736/first-littlebigplanet-2-details-its-a-whole-new-game

According to early details from the magazine from a NeoGAF forum member, LittleBigPlanet 2 is much more than just a side-scrolling platforming game. Media Molecule is creating new tools that will enable players to create racing games, puzzle games, "Space Invaders clones," role-playing games and even real-time strategy games.

"A Media Molecule developer has created a fully-functioning Command & Conquer clone," according to a recount of the mag's report.

LittleBigPlanet 2 will also apparently let players create and edit short films, record their own sound effects and manipulate the game's camera to make customized cut scenes using Sackboys.

The PS3 game also introduces the Sackbot, a fully customizable and programmable enemy unit. With new "direct control seat" options that let players define control schemes, creating customized controls for enemies, vehicles and even Sackboy himself—no more standardized floaty control?—LittleBigPlanet 2's game creation tools sound like a massive leap.

I am all over that

It's October and that means it's time to wander through corn mazes, carve up pumpkins, decorate your house and watch scary movies. And Sony has your back on that last one, if you have a Playstation 3.

Starting this weekend the Playstation Network will let you stream a free scary movie every Saturday night in October. That's right it's free. Here's a rundown of the free SD rentals (god damn it, at least it's free so...) you can watch in the month of October on the PSN. All times are listed in Pacific.

5 p.m. Oct. 16 to 3 a.m. Oct. 17
Bram Stoker's Dracula

5 p.m. Oct. 23 to 3 a.m. Oct. 24
Savage County

5 p.m. Oct. 30 to 3 a.m. Oct. 31
A Nightmare on Elm Street, the original one featuring a cameo of crushed Capn' Crunch cereal. I'm not kidding.

Sony has a bunch of other Halloween-themed promotions lined up for the month as well, check it out over on their Halloween Fright Flicks page.

For some fucking reason I cannot at all recall that cameo of crushed Capn' Crunch cereal in "ANoES". Gonna have to rewatch it as well as see what other films I probably don't have in my collection.

In some strange news, "No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise" will be coming out exclusively for the PS3 & PS-Move (http://kotaku.com/5674129/no-more-heroes-finds-paradise-exclusively-on-ps3) with help from Konami in the NA/EU territories since Ubisoft passed up on it (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/10/26/no-more-heroes-heroes-paradise-announced-exclusively-for-ps3-and-playstation-move/).

Basically it can be played both with the regular controller as well as using the PS Move.

I'm guessing the 360 version I remember reading about (http://kotaku.com/5520309/how-a-wii-game-looks-on-the-xbox-360) was cancelled..?

i wasn't a big fan of resistance, but the uncharted games are excellent (although they got hyped up a lot since both were among paltry competition for GOTY on the ps3). GT, as a racer, is incredible - but if you don't want an ultrarealistic racer, well, of course you're not going to like it :<

I heard really mixed things about RoF, but A lot of people have recommended it to me. I've been thinking about picking it up, along with Tales of Vesperia. I completely missed both of these games. Does anybody know if Eternal Sonata has any extra content on the Ps3, enough that's worth playing again? I already beat it on the xbox360, but It's rather cheap on ps3 these days.

Did you guys read about the potential anti piracy method that Sony is thinking about? It's probably just a rumor, but since the Ps3 is all hacked now, I heard Sony was thinking about implementing serial numbers on their games. That's just ridiculous. I guess Sony really does view the ps3 as more of a computer. >_<

Parasite Eve is supposedly coming out the same time or "just" before The 3rd Birthday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_3rd_Birthday) comes out for the PSP on March 29. At most you'll likely pay $7.99? I think that's the same price for Vagrant Story as well.
