While I wouldn't consider the current setup for the league to be a 'failure,' there are issues that are undebatable that allow the most active good players to simply dominate. I see the 10 weeks of the 'league project' as a great step in the right direction, but older ideas probably would better suit this league. Since OCR members for the most part simply come and go with little commitment, it's difficult to get behind a long-term championship, which is unfortunately the thing I'd like to see the most.
Around August I floated the idea of team play, in order to bring in some more players and allow lower-ranked players to still compete. This was replaced by the two- or three-division tournament plan, which lasted all of six weeks, to finally be replaced by the league project. The thought of having chess teams has been in my mind for a while, and all of you have been fairly responsive to the tri-series idea that I'm promoting, which I intend to be the "test run" for team play.
Ultimately, this morning, I decided that the best idea might be just to let loose and create a team, encouraging others to start their own. I won't start team play unless I am able to get commitments from four teams, and I would likely employ a six-week schedule with a one-week championship, with this schedule rotating constantly. Rules would have to be made on player transfers, drafting, etc., and addressing these is the main concern. Scheduling and strategies for captains are basically already decided, as all players will be assigned to a team, and each team will have to play every player at least once and no more than twice in a schedule (with no more than one "healthy scratch"). All these rules on scoring, scheduling, that's easy, already been decided.
The issue is getting the people. We currently have 24 people on the OCRCL schedule. 6 of those are not on the active schedule. Another 4 are currently no-shows. With not even 16 committed players, how can we get the necessary players for a compelling and competitive league? There will always need to be at least 3 players playing for a team in a week, hopefully I can increase that number to 4 if this idea takes off. Expansion is a hopeful pipe dream, and I'd love to see a semi-permanent six-team league with two-week playoffs, rotating every calendar season.
Anyways, I've got a lot of ideas on this one. If you'd like to be a captain, please IM ME.

Estoy aqui.
This new idea of Kamoh's is exciting. It feels a lot like baseball to me.
Hey why is Week 1 dubbed "Week 0"? I'm sure there's a good reason for it...
Oh, and Kamoh, I have a weird request to make - if you intend on posting updates and standings and all that stuff we like and you're so good at, can you do one little thing: since handles at OCR are case-sensitive, can you spare me searching through the entire thread looking for someone's post to know exactly how to spell their handle (e.g. does RocketSniper have a space, capital letters, etc.) and instead just label their standings in exactly the way it is at OCR? I appreciate the consideration.

WEEK Zero = Preseason :)
It won't count but it'll be a nice test for me to show you what I want this to develop into.
Also, I think I can do that little request for you. Although the posts you describe are mostly at the front of the thread, so it shouldn't be that huge of a problem (and the whole AIM thing), from now on I'll strive to get that right.

Listen, if you aren't aware, there's this thing called protein folding, which requires computer processing power. Basically, it's a brute force consideration of all the molecular possibilities if we do all these different things with strands of protein (protein is what DNA is made up of), and it's very important for various biological/medical research reasons. You can create and join a team that will get a ranking based on the number of work units you've completed, and OCR has its own team.
All you have to do is download this little program that you just leave running whenever your computer's on, and put your processing power to good use. It's not invasive and won't affect your other programs. It only uses what processing power you happen to have available at any given time, without affecting other processes. We're trying to recruit more people now, because Gamefaqs is about to get ahead of us!!! Yes, those stupid bastards have more active CPUs and they are quickly closing the gap. We need to fight back. Dama!
DNA is not made of proteins, it is composed of nucleotides (which are made of nitrogenous bases, sugars and phosphate). [Do I sound nerd-ish?] :-)
Also I think it is incorrect to say that protein folding requires computer processing power - "simulation of protein folding" is more appropriate.
Though all this project looks interesting... Maybe I will join, when I will make my computer to work better.

informations
These matchups do not matter. This is a trial week and we have the other tournament to finish up.
However, I would like you guys to play some matches that you see scheduled. Also, you may play one "riskmatch" (see page 1 of the thread) as will be permitted in normal play.
I will allow for bye weeks, but the whole dynamic hasn't quite been sorted out yet. This will be crucial to keep good players from losing a lot of points needlessly simply because they are gone for a while.
There will also be a refined reporting system, done on a week-by-week basis because I intend to reward players at the end of each week (highest score, most improved, etc).
There will be a four-week rotation constant. If you have the most points over the last four weeks (calculated every week), you will get something...a star probably. You will be looking to get as many of those stars as possible, likely in a 12-week span.

I will allow for bye weeks, but the whole dynamic hasn't quite been sorted out yet. This will be crucial to keep good players from losing a lot of points needlessly simply because they are gone for a while.
Have you thought about having only a finite number of points, based on the number of players entered? I.e., a new player joins, and starts with a default of 50 points. That way, the only way to gain or lose points is to exchange with other players, and the amount one player loses should be equal to the amount that the other player gains. So if a player doesn't play for a couple of weeks, his points are unaffected.
However, I'll admit this raises a whole host of other complications, like what to do when somebody draws with another player who is better than them. Should they get something based on the difference in their points? We'd need several formulas for the various situations and that might be too much work. I dunno, just a thought.
By the way, I thank Margo for her corrections and remind everyone again how important folding is. See, we're all learning something. Regardless of the details, it's neat that you ca participate in scientific research without actually having to any work. Come on, let's beat Gamefaqs. It's just a couple clicks away! I've considered it in the past, after reviewing the IRB (http://www.irb.com) system and others. I even have a spreadsheet sitting around based on June's results to reflect this consideration.
However, I decided that trying to develop such a ranking system was just too difficult a challenge for myself personally. I would want to control the levels from the ground up, and to do a game-by-game analysis of your rankings could end up disastrously complex and even incorrect.
Furthermore, it'd put the focus of the tournament on me instead of on the game. While that consideration hasn't totally been followed, I catch myself making things too flashy and too league-centric. This new episode is no different, but I'm hoping that this will be the be-all, end-all, and players will get used to the little additional quirks that have been and are being implimented at this time.
Plus I like to impress you guys.
Rainman DX

Furthermore, it'd put the focus of the tournament on me instead of on the game.
That's a really good point.
I'm totally prepared to, if given an adequate algorithm, write a Python script or something to generate accurate ratings, but I'm clueless on what that algorithm would look like. All I know is for two equally matched players, a rating change of (W, D, L) = (+18, 0, -18) would occur. Beyond that, I would need instruction.
But it's not like we're hurting without it either. If you're a player who's into that kind of thing, I suggest www.playchess.com.

byes
If you forsee yourself needing to take a week off, you may alert me that you will be taking a bye week. The rules on this:
1) You may only use one bye week every four weeks.
2) Each week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday, so please alert me by the Sunday before your bye week that you would like to have the bye week.
3) A BYE WEEK will delay your previous results one more week, allowing you to collect more medals if possible.
4) You must alert me that you have returned for ANY off week, including a bye week. Otherwise, I will continue to leave you out of the schedule (which is better than losing reports).
suspensions
1)If, for ANY reason, you recieve less than zero points for a week, YOU WILL BE SUSPENDED for the next week. This can be done by losing reports and losing riskmatches.
2)Your negative score for that week will be adjusted to 0 points.
3) You must alert me that you have returned for ANY off week, including a suspension. Otherwise, I will continue to leave you out of the schedule.
reporting
1) If your opponent is unresponsive or unwilling to play a scheduled match, you may put them "On Report" by PM'ing or IM'ing me.
2) All reports are a ½-point-swing per game - if you win a report, you take ½ point from your opponent.
3) Reports must be made BEFORE the Saturday of the week in which that match was scheduled. Otherwise, they are invalid.
4) Reports are subjective - if the reported player is visible to me and I am talking to them, I will waive the report entirely.
5) Counter-reporting is allowed, and will very often nullify both reports.
6) If you lose a report and finish the week with a negative score, you will be suspended the next week (see above).

Apologies for the double post.
Nemitor_Atimen will be given a BYE.
Fire will be given a BYE as well - I assume he's actually busy enough that I'll keep him out of the schedule.
After bye weeks, the next week is "OPEN," which is for players who are "in" the tournament, but not scheduled for that week.
If you've been suspended, that "OPEN" will say "SUSPENDED" instead.

In other words, if you only play a risk match on a given week and lose it? Or is this some sort of penalty for sucking? Just curious.

I like that idea. One bye per four weeks, with the way byes are set up, sounds very fair.

In other words, only play a riskmatch if you've got at least one point in regular matches that week.
I might change this, but I doubt it - I want to make sure that every week shows a non-negative score on it. You're already getting penalized for two weeks away..
More below...
Nemitor_Atimen will be given a BYE.

I think so too :)
NOTE:
I ONLY give out points for games that I schedule, and I will give out 1 point for each.
I don't give out points for ANY games that are unplayed.
For riskmatches, I don't give out points - you trade them.
For reports, I don't give out points - you trade them.
oh and one more thing
This won't happen in the regular weeks, but I'm going to rotate those matches so that whoever Fire and Nemo are playing are instead playing eachother.

You'll noticed that I changed something I usually change: The scoring.
The effect of every match is the same, though. All I did was integrate the first tiebreaker (games played) into the score.
STANDARD MATCHES
+51 points/win
+26 points/draw
+01 pointss/loss
RISKMATCHES
+26 points/gain
+01 points/push
-24 points/bust
REPORTS
+25 points/default
-25 points/forfiet
I know it's kinda weirdly done, but it works out right.
I'm still trying to find a way to incorporate the second tiebreaker in there as well (most wins), but it's harder to make it simple.
If you're bored, look into it for me, and see if there's a way that I can assure that my tiebreaker system can work in the easiest most direct way possible (or something).

good point there, clef, and something that should be noted.
everyone!
Make sure that your opponent knows that you are playing FOR OCRCL credit. We've had a lot of these "friendlies" in the past and often times you might get a result out of another player just to be wallopped with the claim "oh, I didn't know this was for the tourney."
The easiest way you can do this is to say "for OCRCL?" or "for the tournament?" or "Week 1 Game 1 glhf" or something like that so that your opponent knows that you intend for this one to count.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/2206/chessmn4.gif
NOTE: Records have been consolidated into a 4-column form, to reflect:
Wins - Draws/Gains - Losses/Pushes - Busts
Gains, Pushes, and Busts are what I'm terming the riskmatch Win, Draw, and Loss, respectively.

Here's making a rule for ya:
not playing
I'll keep you as either a "bye" or an "open" until you mention that you would like matches or like to be removed from the schedule.
You must clearly tell me you want to be taken off the schedule to be removed.
You will never be removed from the standings if you play, but I can make you anonymous.

I've updated the standings with a new INTERESTING points system - this is not official at all, but it is interesting and will keep players from losing points they can't get back in riskmatches. 7 for wins, 4 for draws, 1 for losses, and -2 for risklosses. You cannot lose points if you lose six games in a week with this system.
Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated.
---
Also, one policy change, which isn't relevant until next week. The four-week rule now entails the following:
-You MAY NOT play two standardmatches against the same opponent in any four-week span.
-You MAY NOT play two riskmatches against the same opponent in any four-week span.
-You MAY NOT play more than one standardmatch OR one riskmatch against the same opponent in any one week.
-You MAY NOT play more than one standardmatch AND one riskmatch against the same opponent in any four-week span.
If this is hard to understand, ask me and I'll try to clarify.
Dropped 2 against Keeg. GG!

-You MAY NOT play two standardmatches against the same opponent in any four-week span.

-You MAY NOT play more than one standardmatch OR one riskmatch against the same opponent in any one week.
-You MAY NOT play more than one standardmatch AND one riskmatch against the same opponent in any four-week span.
So, in other words, you can't play the same person twice in four weeks, in either a standard match or a risk-match.
But you can play one of each against someone else, if it's not in the same week.
That's what he said, in layman's terms. We appreciate the technical wording, though. :)

My general background is new wave and videogame stuff. I grew up listening to my parents' 80s tapes/CDs and, being the nerd I am, a hefty amount of VG mixes and rips.
I both play and listen. I've been playing Bass Clarinet for nine years, and the bass guitar for two. I play a ton of stuff, and I've transposed a ton of VG music for band.
My favorite types of music are Alternative, Indie and Techno, but I listen to everything except for most Rap and Country & Western.
My favorite Artists right now are Radiohead, Daft Punk, Deathcab for Cutie, Infected Mushroom, and anyone who's composed a videogame soundtrack. (Nobou Uemastu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Koji Kondo... etc.)

Do you play or just listen? - I play bass now, little over a year.
If you play, then what instrument(s) do you play? - Bass :)
What style(s) do you play? - Pretty much just rock music, try to learn a video game ditty every now and then for fun.
What are you favorite types of music? - Rock, Alternative
Who are your favorite artists? - Dredg is my favorite, but there's a lot more.

So, as for me, my primary instrument is the Marimba or any mallet percussive instrument, and I also march in the pit at school. I used to march quint tenors - they were so much fun. I miss that.
I adore just about every form of instrumental music, and even though it only accounts for around 33% of my total music library on my computer - (1321 items, 91+ hours, 4.2 GB) it is a solid 75% of the music I listen to regularly, and I have to scroll down 70 tracks, (38 of which are OCR tunes) in order to reach the most-often-played lyrical piece, Enya's "Orinoco Flow". So there you go.

I adore just about every form of instrumental music, and even though it only accounts for around 33% of my total music library on my computer - (1321 items, 91+ hours, 4.2 GB) it is a solid 75% of the music I listen to regularly, and I have to scroll down 70 tracks, (38 of which are OCR tunes)
If we're going with computer libraries right now, I have like 40GB+, 6771 songs on my WinAmp right now, 362:41 hours. It's constantly growing.

Speaking about music: I listen to everything, what was made well. Favourite artists and genres vary, recently it was some old rock, jazz, gypsy swing, some russian techno etc
Um... is it only me here who does not play any instrument?

What is your background with music?
Do you play or just listen?
If you play, then what instrument(s) do you play? What style(s) do you play?
What are you favorite types of music?
Who are your favorite artists?
So I myself will be included into my own activity. I notice two others play Bb Bass Clarinet. That's awesome. Well my backround with music entails my family history. My family has been singing for generations. At least to my great-grandfather. He was a Tenor in Barbershop. My grandmother sings as a bass in Sweet Adelines. My father didn't sing anywhere. As I have joined a Barbershop group when I was bit younger, however I am not currently singing with anybody. I both listen and play. I play almost every instrument I have come into contact with. I don't really play much in the strings department. I primarily played the Bb Bass Clarinet while in high school. Along with that, I tend to play classical music. A little jazz, but not too much. Oh yeah, I played marching music while I was in marching bands. My favorite types of music are electronic classed music and alternative classed music. Different branches in there as well; kind of like funk and whatnot. I like classical and jazz as well. Mostly from my experience with them. I love singing old songs like Mary Lou and Sittin' On Top of the World. They're a lot of fun. I guess that I really don't have any favorite artists. It all really depends on my mood. For instance I was in a sing song mood today and I was listening to acapella. Yesterday it was more of a country day. A few days before that it was rappish/hip hopish mood. It all depends really. Red Hot Chili Peppers are up around the top of the list though.
I'll post another topic in a few days. Monday of next week will be the most likely time. Laters.

Sadly, I don't play an instrument. I'm trying to learn to play the piano, and hopefully my parents get me a MIDI keyboard for X-mas like I want them to. (That, and FLStudio or something, and I might actually try to make a remix. But for now, I got nothin'.)
The only instrument I have is my voice. I sing baritone and tenor in my high school's top choir, and hoping to make the all-state choir this year.

Two changes real quick
ONE - "thirdmatches," "bonusmatches," whatever...now are "halfmatches" and are half the credit, half the points, etc etc etc. Seems reasonable to me.
TWO - Scoring streamlined.
4 pts/win, 2 pts/draw, 0 pts/loss.
2 pts/½win, 1 pts/½draw, 0 pts/½loss.
Tiebreakers: Games played, Wins, Draws, Strength of Results, Strength of Schedule.
EDIT: I'm not wanting to change exact dynamics, but I may end up affecting HOW things are scored. The scoring system is basically done IMO, just a matter of finding the right dynamic that I want to continue with.
Edit2: Oh screw it.

Yahoo's messing with dama's/my head. I was playing a game with him and Firefox (new version; that might be the problem but I doubt it) crashed twice silently. After the second time I got into the channel, our table was gone and Dama was given a loss.
Our situation was this: Dama had a little over two minutes left and just his king, I had more time (not sure how much more, but more) my king and a pawn two squares away from promotion with basically nothing dama could do about it (his king was too far away). There is no way he could have won, but he COULD have gotten a stalemate out of that if I slipped up. He doesn't think that was likely, and I have to agree that I've almost never made that mistake, but it was possible and Yahoo shouldn't have just given me that win.
What do we do? Besides find a new chess site to play on.
Btw, excellent game, Dama. You had me thinking several moves ahead to figure out which pieces you were targeting. People in real life never force me to concentrate like that.

Kamoh speaking on Snerraks account:
If this is unsatisfactory, then we can talk about it later:
1) The chances of stalemate in that situation (for dama) is very difficult.
2) The chances of stalemate WHEN the advantaged player is aware that they need to avoid stalemate is nigh impossible.
3) Because of the above, Fire 1-0 dama.

I think I have a tendency to think of the other players as boss fights in a video game. Anyone with photoshopping skills willing to generate a logo - send me an IM or PM. I'd like a logo with some of the old OCR colors (shades of purple) but I'd go with anything, and a chess theme is probably necessary.

For a flavor of the old.
One idea I had was to have a stylized or silhouetted lineup of a pawn, rook, knight, bishop, queen, and king; each one a little taller than the one before...also the king wouldn't have a cross on his head - he'd have a pretzel. This logo idea would not incorporate a chessboard (and I'd honestly like to stay away from that since it's kinda tacky - maybe just four panels.
Edit: I like the first one (sorry Chris - meh is the word but now you know better what things look like).
Edit2: Also, maybe, the OCR logo with the controller and the headphones or a variation of it?

Gee, fH, I really like the first one - slightly darker, more defined... The second one is too washed out. Just add the border from the second one to the first one, and you've got it, I think! Looks really good.
Too bad you didn't stick with the "OverClicked" - I liked it!

Let's see what's wrong with the picture...
Look at Ks. Sox piece collection, where his pieces are located, where my pieces are located, where my pieces are located and also look at the move count.
Yahoo! is being bastardous to me. Meh.
Oh well. Good games.

I had that same problem with Margo a couple weeks ago. We managed to get the old yahoo working and had our games there (we could only connect to the new yahoo at first).

Okay, so I see what the issue was here.
Last week, ks_sox_fan and I had a second game that didn't get played. I proposed to him that we count it as a draw, and he agreed, so the draw we got was, in actuality, an unplayed match designed to decieve the league director (of course, that's me too, so really decieving all of you guys). This crap is okay, I just want an agreeable result posted.
You guys have until 11:59 pm PST (woo standard time now) to figure this out. Otherwise...1-1 is the result (better than 0-0 after all - unless someone says they are dismayed).

happy halloweek!
This week's scheduling was done fairly convoluted. I originally had the top 5 playing eachother isolated from the rest, but that didn't work out so well. Basically it's similar to the last time with some exceptions due to rematches...
I will have to schedule myself against JD next week for sure.

Wow...that's fantastic - I was kinda hoping for a purpley-thing but this is just great. I do have a couple requests though, but shouldn't be too hard...
1) Longer, banner sized? 600-800 pixels wide would be best, and just continue the end of the logo with the squares. Nothing has to be added (unless you want to stick player avatars on there hint hint nudge nudge I can do that though).
2) The OCRCL should be a little bolder and less washed out.
3) The words should be "OVERCLOCKED CHESSLEAGUE" since that's the way I've been saying it for a while.
---This is enough for me to put it in my sig :)

Well as promised, I have come up with another topic for the next couple of weeks.
So I guess this one most of us could have seen coming a mile away. Well it has to do with Halloween. Here we go.
What did you do for the weekend preceeding Halloween?
What are you doing for Halloween?
Dressing up?
How about some stories from previous years?
What are you planning on doing for next year if you know?
What's you favorite Halloween activity?
Tricks or treats, which do you like better and are there stories attached?
This should be a fun one. Have fun with it and I will post my stuff later. I have work in a few hours and I must got to sleep. Good night everyone. Good luck with your games this week!

Last Saturday I had a Halloween party =D
For Halloween I'm prolly going to do what I did last year and take my bike around (unless it rains) I got crazy amounts of candy =D
This year I'm dressing up as Pants man from VGCats (www.vgcats.com).
Last year we made a pumpkin diorama of brain surgery. I'll try posting some pics once I find my scanner. We went all out on it =D
Next year I'd like to do something I've been planning for a while. Get a bunch of life-sized dolls or scarecrows or something, put them in a wheel barrow, then wander the streets saying "Bring out your dead!"
I love Monty Python.
My favorite Halloween activity is definitely dressing up. If you put even a little thought into it (unlike the lazy kids who go as 'students' and the like) your costume usually gets quite a few comments as you go door to door.
And I definitely like treats. There's no story here, I just like candy a lot.

I vote nay. Let's not have a grammatically incorrect banner just because that's how you've been saying it for awhile. I know lots of people that have been writing for awhile without the use of commas, but that's not a tradition I want to support.

you guys are right about this one, but I like having the two-word writing of it still. I figure eventually I will end up just agreeing with you and that will be that, so don't listen to me at all...
I'd love to have that logo transparencied to 25% gray as the transparency color if that's possible (hard cause the logo is a lot of gray)

So there's a few things I want to ask from you guys - one is a brainstorm, one is a project, and one is a cool idea that'd be fun to do:
1) Weekly and Monthly Awards
I will be retroactively posting awards for each week, sometime before Week 4 ends. The ones I have for 1-week AND 4-week intervals:
Best Total Score
Best Wins minus Losses
Most Wins
100% score for a week/month
Any other ideas are always welcome.
2) Badges for Awards
Badges for the above awards would be nice to see. :)
3) OCRCL All-Star Week
Two captains would draft players, and we'd have one week where two teams would battle it out. The team with the highest score wins (every player would play two matches and the captains would assign players to certain matchups blindly). We could also have this be an award.

Yeah...also there might be a "playoff weekend" where the top 3 awardwinners get one designated playoff week and only play against eachother. Then there'd be even more fun awards and stuff.

Okay, no no no, bad, bad Kamoh!
Please understand that you just ennumerated 4 awards for the same stat - wins. Which means on any given week, one person wins the first three (*coughchokeJDcoughgag) and then on special weeks, one person wins all four. This is dumb.
:D Award #1: Most wins for the week (with an added bonus if that player went 100% that week, and played all scheduled games).
8O Award #2: Most improved player has the highest differential of wins this week minus wins last week, divided by total games played.
:P Award #3: Dark Horse winner is the lowest ranked player that week to have at least 1 win against a player in the top 5 (3?) (2?) of that week.
 Award #4: The anti-award is given to the person with the lowest differential (presumably large negative number) using the same stat as Award #2, or Biggest Fall Award.
There. Now that I went to all that trouble, Kamoh won't use 'em.
Oh, uh, the All-Star idea seems pretty shiny to me, though.

Oh, uh, the All-Star idea seems pretty shiny to me, though.
Basically what I want to do here is have the three players with the most awards be in that playoff week I was talking about. Each award is the same value - for now.
Top Score:
-Best Score in One Week
-Best Score in Four Weeks
100%:
-6 wins/1 week
-12 wins/2 weeks
-18 wins/3 weeks
-24 wins/4 weeks
Most Improved:
-White Knight: Greatest Positional Gain in one week.
-Black Knight: Highest (points earned)*(their score - your score).
Other Ideas:
-King's Toilet: Outstanding exploitation of the rules.
-Swiss Trap: 6 draws/1 week.
comments?
we still have time.

The addition of player colors is here.
Each player may choose two banner colors to represent them. Some of you already have...some I've just guessed up to this point.
IM me to fix/change/request your colors.

Let's see... that would be... ks_sox_fan? Amirite?
Hmm... Gosh, this is tricky. Do I choose Georgia Tech's White & Gold? Or my alma mater's White & Blue? Or my sig's Red & Blue? So hard...
Got it. Yellow Jackets' Gold & Black, or closest equivalent. Thank you.
EDIT #1: By the way, I think it's no coincidence that Margoute has a dead-even score with moi, but in half the games played. She's really upped her performance from back when she joined OCR, and I'm sure she'd agree. Keep it up, Margo! The Clef's the limit!
EDIT #2: Here's a badge idea. I can crank out the others no problem when I have some time, if you like it.

Hey guys, I've been using a bad transparency tool for a while now. Can anyone point me in the direction of making good transparencies?
(do .png's have transparency? For some reason my computer won't save .png's in MS Paint)

PNGs have transparency. Try saving them in PS or even Irfanview. It's worth noting that in IE the PNG transparency won't work unless you have a workaround. My workaround is using Firefox.

Okay, amidst Yahoo! struggles galore (I swear we should just mozey on over to playchess.com full time), I managed to squeak out a win and a draw with Snerrak. He plays a mean game, no doubt - had me playing my absolute best against him.
