Mega Man 'Cutman Sonata'

Gorgeous. Absoultly stunning. I love this remix. It's a wonderful
arrangement. It might not be a strict sonata, but it's still an excellent
piano track.

Of course it's not a sonata, and I'm sure McVaffe knows it better than any of us. But it's as charming as any piano song I know, and listening to it one may well think MM1 soundtrack has been composed by Nobuo Uematsu. What a great arrangement!

Now now, if you study classical literature, you will see that the term "Sonata" not only refers to a form based on recurring themes and development, but also to an actual style as well. While this doesn't follow A section, B section, development, recapitulation, and all those rules (that tend to make songs too damn LONG in my opinion), it does in fact capture the essence and quality of a sonata style, even when compared mildly to classical pieces of centuries past.
Don't know why I felt the need to write that; perhaps to make it seem like I learned all that crap in college for an actual reason, heh.

And yes, I too commend McVaffe on a nice tune. I can play it on the piano too, did ya know that? Ask McVaffe, I was hanging out with him in NY the other day. Good stuff.

This has to be the best remix on this site. Probably because all the other remixes of Megaman are techno. I know that they are cool, but this song is ............................. pretty. Really good moving piano piece. There is a lot of extra harmony and chords added into this song that make it sound like an old-school classical piano piece, like Moonlight sonata or something. This is excellent! Much respect. Hell, I wish I could play that on the piano!

Amazing. Astouding. It makes me want to take piano lessons again. There's nothing that I like better than a good quality Piano solo, and this is one. This one will be a top mix on my list for years. 11/10

megaman .. piano ... another thing i thought was impossible, and was prooved wrong on sight. MCV brings us another one of those tracks that blows people away with creativity. DJP resumes everything quite nicely here ..

Cutman's sonata is an amazing piano mix .. that makes me wonder if they shuold someday make a megaman piano Soundtrack ?

Beautiful. There's not even words I can think of to describe it. How you envisioned this from the original CutMan theme is something I can't even comprehend. Amazing work.

I could barely tell it was Cutman until it picked up in tempo, but it has emotional power on par with the Trial theme ReMix from Chrono Trigger . McVaffe once again proves his place in the OCR elite with this excellent piece.

I just DLed this track again after reformatting my hard drive and I have to say that even after three plus years of age, this is still one of the best arrangements on the site. Thank you, McVaffe.

I concur, this track is really great. Great translation from the game, I can't believe you were able to turn it into a successful piano piece, great job.

Absolutely stunning!
McVaffe is a genius when it comes to piano works!!

This variation on Cutman's theme is just simply awesome!
No other way to describe it!

This is probably my very favorite song on the site. The arrangement and performance are both simply amazing. Who would've guessed that Megaman would sound so good in piano? And so natural? I've been known to leave this playing for hours on end. And you know what? It still sounds awesome.

Great work, McVaffe.

I've always loved the beauty of this piece, but just now I took the time to listen to a couple of other renditions of the original as MIDIs (I've never actually heard the original theme).

Wow!

Bif!

Pow!

Boy did McVaffe turn a chunk of coal into a diamond : )

Did McV do this on an actual piano or an electric one?

Well, doesn't matter, either way this ReMix is great.

Minimal, but very enjoyable to listen to. The arrangement is not terribly deep, but it sounds very good, and the top notch playing (or samples/effects, I don't know) compliment it well. I've been playing this myself for the past few weeks (not the original theme, but this remix) and I've gotten some compliments on it- to which, of course, I respond that I didn't make it up or arrange it or anything.

Definitly good stuff, 9/10.

Once and again, McVaffe prove that he's really THE LORD of the piano arrangements! 8) I'm starting to think that he can actually take any piece of music and turn it in a piano masterpiece! :P It's so beautiful that it's pulling me a tear! Great work from McVaffe Beethoven!

whoah. This an awesome arrangement. I've heard the cutman theme many a time, but this is one of the best renditions I've ever heard. Powerful music by McVaffe.

Ok, I had to create an account for this one. I love remixes, and piano ones are probably my favorite. But they seem rather difficult to come by. Anyways...

I play piano, as I'm sure so to do some of you, and I have to say that I really appreciate this song. If i close my eyes, I can literally see one of my instructors playing this. It's so well done.

This is beautiful work. Congradulations. As well, if there were to be sheet music of this, I would also be interested. Thank you.

Very nice job. It makes me picture a scene where Megaman's feeling down and almost unwilling to go on or something. Just has a really nice melancholy feel to it.

Another one of McVaffe's classics right here. Expertly done piano, not too quick or slow. 'Tis a shame more people aren't as into piano as myself. ^^

Well...not technically a sonata by its form, but that's hardly anything to hold against this magnificent piece. Once again, McVaffe's accute sense of piano style puts this at the top.
Whether you're a MegaFanatic like me or not - or the kind of person who does or doesn't listen to or mind classical music - it's undeniable that McVaffe is a very skilled musician, and this tune proves it. With the light opening, fluid melody, and the occasional, light-hearted jest, this should be required listening for both the OCREMIX enthusianist and the musically-inspired. I honestly don't think I can garnish enough praise on it :D , especially since so many of the Mega Man games are regularly riddled with accompanying techno-beats whose remixes don't stray very far from the original (despite the wealth of excellent remixers like DiscoDan, AE, etc.). McVaffe really went above and beyond with this one.

BTW, if you find this to your liking you also might want to check out McVaffe's MM3 Gemini Salsa remix of Gemini Man's stage.

It has finally arrived. Four and a half years after its arrival, and after many requests for sheet music, I finally decided to do something productive over the summer by transcribing McVaffe's wonderful piece of work. Get your greedy little hands on it by visiting his website.

You did a great job. I was trying to play it this afternoon (and failing miserably), and it refreshed my mind on how well a job McVaffe did. Short and oh so sweet (note no 'but,' the length in no way detracts from the song).

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Nice to know that my transcription efforts weren't wasted. And yes, it requires some effort to play. I'm still working on the latter half.

Didnīt think the cutmantheme would be this good in piano. I adored the ending where the speed for once increased and bursted out with a few second pianosolo.
Thank ye one again, thy excellent remixer known as Vaffe.

Excellently arranged and played, however in terms of the recording, I felt the left and right hands were panned too far apart! Like, really too far!
Great job otherwise!

Cutman's theme seems to be one of those tracks that you should only attempt in certain styles. When I saw it was called Cutman Sonata, I was cautious, but McVaffe has a way of making you enjoy things you wouldn't expect to.

I actually think it is funny just how good this is. McVaffe has taken something fast-paced and energetic, and turned it into an sonata. And it works beautifully.

This track for me is a statement to what OCR are about. Take a remix, and give it your own personal flair. No other remix does that quite as well as this one. Not sure if I can give any higher praise than that. One of the best mixes on the site that I have heard thus far.

What do you get when you cross McVaffe with a piano?

Total awesomeness.

Also known as...this piece.

An oldie but goodie.

That made me lol because it's so true.
This has a certain slightly emotionally bittersweet pained aspect to it, like the Phantom of the Opera or Davey Jones at an organ except it's Cutman at a piano.
I can also see this being a ballad almost. Definitely one of my favorite piano arrangements

The melody works surprisingly well with this treatment, though I was hoping for a few more trills and ornamentation. Great rubato, and the track itself is short but sweet. I do think the 2 hands are panned a bit severely, but it makes transcribing things a little easier. :-)

There's some clipping on the left hand side around 2:25, but otherwise it sounds really nice. Another victory for McVaffe!

0:43 beautiful use of the 6/8 time sig
1:05 this transition is wonderful
2:23 the development to an ending here is unexpected, but it works perfectly

Sheet music was transcribed, and sadly I was SIX YEARS too late.
