Lots of changes in my part of the world. My friends and I decided to leave TCF. Quite frankly, we did not know what was the point of controlling an extremely rich section of 0.0 if all we could do was lose ships in battles the goons did not feel like fighting. So the Caribou wing left for new horizons.
That was around 2 weeks ago, we decided to start a new corporation intended for the three of us, as fate would have it, a friend and his acquaintances left their own corporation and joined us, so our little corporation now has 10 members. If you see us, we're quite friendly, the corp name is Exotic Trade and Exploration Association [ETEA] we hang around Verge Vendor and Sinq Liaison and we keep a low profile.
As for me, I'm back flying a Sleipnir, which makes L1 and L2 missions a breeze... I managed to get in some action against thieves, and almost croaked to an Armageddon (I was warp jamed but close enough to a jumpbridge to manage to leave. My middle rack was almost all burned out from the overheating, but luckily, my AB died when I was on the bridge, and my Shield booster survived the ordeal.) I actually had a friendly chat with the armageddon pilot afterwards, and I learned that he burned out his guns trying to kill me as I was leaving.
Also, I am almost able to fly an hulk, which means that I am gonna suck the roids dry. Sadly I'll only be sucking on Omber, but life is life. With any luck, I'll make enough money off of rocks to purchase a nice stealth bomber.
So yeah, Zayinn Chan no longer has ambitions of being a billionaire, but frankly, the game just got that much more fun.

We'll see what happens. I may really enjoy it and not pick it up anyway because I hate subscription fees. (Hell, I almost decided against signing up for Gamefly, and that's basically any two games I want for around $20/month. Most MMO subscriptions seem to run around $10-15/month, and that's just for one game that you're stuck with!)
I'll totally look you dudes up so you can provide me with phat lewtz, though.

Not sure about OC's financial status but I think I can at least pimp you out on a decent frigate with best named weapons & modules. I will give you this warning though....
STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE EC-P8R GATE. TRUST ME...
When you're in a system with the fond description of "GET THE POD GET THE POD!!!" you know you're fucked.
Unless of course you are in the same alliance as I am or Author was, in which case its a 50%/50% that you'll be greated by friendly corpmates and alliance members watching over u as you pass on through; or get obliterated back to the stone age.
What makes the EC-P8R Warp Gate so interesting is that it's one of the few gates (that I know of) that dramatically jumps from the "Space of Law and Concord Protection" to "Who ever is currently camping the gate is the law of the system. There's no gradual "High Security Space" to Low Sec then to 0.0 . Low Sec is technically the wastelands as no one truly controls low sec except for roaming bands of pirates and extortioners that squelch on any deals.
Null sec basically is what it is, empty space unless who ever have sovereignty over the space; be they TCF, Defy, Triumvirate, Kenzoku, The Red Alliance ect. At least in those spaces, if you're a member of their corps, you can fly to a POS (player owned station) and find safety in the shield it provides. This is something not available in low sec at all.

afaik your character remains even if you cancel subscription. It used to be the case that you could put a long skill (cruiser V or something) on training, then cancel for a month and come back and it would be done. I think this has now changed with the introduction of a skill queue.
Incidentally, it's about time they added a skill queue so I can train all the piddly little EWAR skills etc without having to log in every 8 hours or so!

dude melted like ice [lol stealth bomber], and I even got his pod. For some reason he was sitting 100k off of a gate uncloaked and seemed to not notice me until it was too late, and torpedos do shit damage to frigates. I even had a warp scrambler, not a disruptor. Unfortunately, that scrambler's lack of distance made me lose a couple runaway targets today ;_; at least I learned my lesson!

Ha ha, wow, I'm glad this thread is still going on. The raven pictures made me want to log in just to stare at my caldari navy Raven :-D such an awesome ship
And yeah, Stealth bombers are great when you actually use them smartly, as in Cloaking to 4/5 Covert ops to 4/5 and Torpedo SPECIALIZATION to 3/4 , that means Torpedoes to 5... I still haven't done it, but then again, I use my Raven for missions, and only touch my stealth bomber for killing structures, or just screwing around when I know I'm safe. They're great, but they ARE made out of paper. The only thing that saves them is the fact that they're frigate sized... and maybe a speed tank, but I've never tried it
All of this reminded me to check my Cruise missile skill, 20 minutes to level 5, then specialization :-D

Holy shit the ninja salvagers lately. Every mission I've run in the past week has had like 999999999999999 salvaging nanofag kestrels in it, and all they do is just steal shit and warp out. At least my corp mans up and if the mission runner shoots one of us, 10 logistics ships warp in and we kill the raven and whatever else happens to shoot :D Some of the Raven Navy Issues drop quite a bit of uhh... "special items" as well.
One of my corpmates convinced a guy to eject from his Golem a couple weeks back. Thanks for the free Golem, whoever that was!
Man, tonight though, I warped into a big group. There was a Rokh, Raven, and Ishtar running a sansha mission, so I stole their shit and they shot me. I got the ishtar no problem, but for some reason no matter what I did I couldn't break the fucking Rokh. I even switched into a raven and couldn't break his shield past like 90%. Ridiculous. I'm training for torps right now. At least I got away with no losses, unlike that time I warped into 2 CNRs, a Raven, and an Orca with my Hurricane.... yeah, oww.

Never sell your account man... EVE is one of those games that one day you will come back to. And when you do, you don't want to have to start over.
I've been playing off and on for a long time now. Right now is an "off" period for me, but my account is still active and I log in everyone once in a while to run a mission or scan down some sites in low sec.
I'm really interested to see how they pull off DUST and the interaction between the two.

seriously, though, anyone have or know of an account for sale? i'll give you cash. avoiding the character bazaar would be awesome because there's nothing but scatterbrained crap, holding toons, or ultra-specialized hulk pilots available. nothing PvE focused, either, which would be my interest.
i'll offer a finder's fee if you find a decent one that goes through.

Any SP requirements? Need certain skills? Location preference?
prophetik
10-08-2011, 04:13 AM
don't care about location. ideally, it flies a hulk and a BS, with excellent cap and either shield or armor skills. t2 drones are a plus. BS V, BC V, cruiser V, and frigate V are all pluses. leadership skills are a definite plus.
here's (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=18456) my post. i realize that's a bit of a pipe dream, but my old character was skilled into marauders with t2 guns, t2 drones, t2 standard launchers, had a hulk, and was able to fly everything from a wolf to a vargur (except recon and covie BSes) on the minmatar side. in under 24m SP. he was perfect. i shouldn't have sold him.
i would be comfortable spending a decent amount on it - up to 200$ in real-world cash. in terms of ISK, that's flexible, since PLEXes are always changing in price.

I burned out of eve hard.
It was getting kinda ridiculous and I needed to work on real, tangible things. Like my music!
I unsubscribed but maybe if I find myself with waaay more free time I can go back.

Eve is a terrible game.
I don't see how anyone can enjoy high/low sec. And null is only fun because we basically just pick random people and fight them because there's nothing else to do.
Its OK though MM didn't want that sov anyway.

Nothing else to do? That's not really a statement you can apply to EVE. IF you're not doing something, its because you are being prevented from doing it by someone else (PVP), OR you don't have the time to get the resources to try it (external factors).
There is never a lack of things to do in EVE.

bought a 50m SP character for just under 100$. can't complain at that, that's the equivalent of 2.8b ISK =)
now i need to find a PvE/mining corp. preferably mostly PvE.

Have to admit it was getting rather ridiculous and as soon as the corp that I was in started mandatory assaults; and actually working in real life, just had to call it quits. It's been nearly two, three years since..?
Sort of interested in the Dust thing they have going for the ps3 in the future but I'm not holding my breath on it being anything really special...

By "nothing else to do" I meant nobody else to fight. The current supercap situation makes it pretty much impossible to attack into anyone with more supers than you. Since the delve region's uncollected mass of clowns don't individually own enough supers to just blob them (nor do they trust eachother enough to deploy them together). It's one of the few places we can still get good fights.

Time to noob it up until my 30 days run out and see if I like it enough to pay for it then.

If at all possible, try to fall in with some folks, and do some group activities. Strangely enough, Eve takes more practice to be successful at solo play than group play.
And, as I tell every new Pilot... Do The Tutorial. Fly safe!

there's tons to do, and it's hard to pick what you like the best. whatever you do, do it with others. it's a lot more fun that way.

You actually bought the game itself? The client itself is free dude, just has a monthly fee. I didn't even know they were charging money for it on Steam. Do you get any free shit at least?

Yeah, the $5 gets you a 30-day subscription. I did see that there was a two week free trial on their website, but I didn't realize that the client was free. Well, it was five bucks. I'm not going to complain.
I'm tooling around (still working on the tutorial missions, didn't play for very long after downloading it yesterday) as Jovianios Noa, if anyone wants to say hi in-game.

I should point out the steam version is NOT a 30 day trial, its a full 30 say subscription.
There are several minor differences, the biggest being you can't train a bunch of skills on a trial.

he was moving a bunch of plexes to somewhere else, probably his home system, or somewhere they're selling for more.
He probably thought he was save because he was in high sec. The problem with that is that you can still suicide into most haulers and have a friend/alt take the loot. Furthermore, the whole thing is retarded.
Plexes don't take any cargo space, so he could have used a much faster or more agile ship. He also didn't fit a tank at all. The slow speed of the bestower basically opens it up to be easily scanned down by high sec gankers, and the lack of tank makes it an easy target.
When you consider the payout, you could gank in a BS or T3 and still make a profit. Hell you could have ganked in a dread and you'd still double your investment.
Tip of the day: Don't move plexes.

So I've been playing in 1-2 hour chunks for the past few days. Still working on the tutorial missions (finished the basics and exploration, working on industry at the moment). I can already see where the attraction of the game comes from -- there's simply so much to do, and so many ways to do it, I know I'd enjoy tweaking my skills and my ride to accomplish whatever it is I decide to do at the time. But then, I've always been a sucker for unit customization...
The question is, other than advancement for its own sake, what exactly is there to do in the game? There doesn't seem to be any storyline or anything to that effect, and the game is obviously ridiculously open-ended. From what I recall of this thread, it's been said that you really need to join a corp to get the most out of the game, but what exactly does joining a corp let you do other than "help you advance even faster"?
Admiral_C
10-20-2011, 03:45 AM
The corp gives you the "purpose" in some instances. Joining an ambitious corp can be your own storyline.
Early on in my career, I joined a pirate corp that hung around low sec and PVP'd other corps (piracy!). Eventually, they decided it would be fun to move into null sec, and from there we got caught up in alliance politics and joined a war for the region. It was a blast. I logged in nearly every day to see what fleet ops were going on or to enjoy the rich bounties null sec provided.
There was no specific goal for me or the corp other than to PVP and have fun. Find something you want to do in EVE, (make money, produce things, explore wormhole space, blow stuff up) and a corp that supports that goal, and you will have loads of fun...typically.
I say that because EVE is not for everyone. Some people just refuse to have fun with the game. But there is a lot to offer, YOU have to find it though. YOU (and others around you) make the experience.

the biggest thing the corp does is allow you to do stuff with other people. whether you like doing missions, working on research and development, mining, PvP, ratting...there's always more fun doing it with other people.

Well, this is the sort of thing I mean. Is there actually an in-game mechanic for, say, claiming territory? Can you build your own space stations and such, or take over ones that exist?
In other words: in what way can you interact with the world rather than the players?

Heh. Eve was my old stomping grounds. Have 3 characters, one near 60 mil SP I think. Kinda don't think I will be going back, but I have said that at least 5 times. I am starting to wonder if I should just get it over with and sell my toons, but I would probably regret it and start a new one.
Some of the missions are fun and mining isn't but makes doing homework go by quicker. I was never good at playing the market. PvP on the other hand... I was in a power block up in the drone regions back when MC had just split from BoB. GS and RA decided to off us and we somehow let them take it. We had a great jump bridge network too... oh well, being a pirate was more fun. I have one toon who can't enter anything above a .4... Sadly, I forget that sometimes : P

I still have mixed feelings. The sig/res combo on most BCs doesn't really lend itself to BS sized guns. Maybe BS autos, but the tracking might not add up. But I suppose we'll see. If the price is right they'll probably outright replace welpfleet.

you could totally throw some isk my way...you know, if you were bored or something.
i'm excited about the new tier-3 battlecruisers. they're looking really cool, and the flexibility will be really nice for mission-runners. you'll still need a proper tank-fitted ship in most missions, but it'll allow big slow guys like the raven, domi, and amarr BSes sit there and sentry-drone it up while other ships provide the mobile firepower. plus the added speed of a BC with big 800mm autos and eventually torps, blasters and pulse lasers can make for a devastating combo previously only found in way-overpriced ships like the macharial, nightmare, and bhaalgorn.
