Hi guys and gals. BGC here. I'm hardly active in the forums as you all know, and personally, I don't give the hairs off a rat's rump about so many of the arguments and debates and otherwise weird discussions that go on here.

HOWEVER:

In the (alleged) spirit of the season of good tidings and good will, let me just say that this is a music appreciation site. And as such, I propose that this next week, starting from December 17th at 12:00AM until December 23rd at 11:59AM, that everyone make a point to listen to as many remixes as you can that you've either never listened to before, or that have less than a full page's worth of reviews (that would be 14, at least) and say what you liked about that particular mix. *EDIT* In that respective remix's review, not in this thread.

If you have nothing good to say about that particular remix, my personal suggestion would be to move on to one that you can, but whatever, that's your call.

spot on. don't get me wrong. this is not a "themed event" as much as it is just a specific theme to focus on, if that makes sense. just something to help those of us who get so caught up in forum discussion/debates to send some love out to the otherwise neglected tunes on here.

While I certainly don't do this as a rule of thumb, I minimally try to at least return the love given to my WIPs and mixes. If you post or review my stuff, chances are I will return the favor.

either, really. i'd personally love to see EVERY mix with at least 15 replies (to page 2, at least) so by all means, have a listen to abadoss's mix. but at the same time, yeah, if a mix has 11 replies, and there's still hundreds that have single digit reviews, take some time to review those, too.

don't get too caught up in the letter of the law here, people. it's the whole spirit of the thing i'm trying to convey--more appreciation for ALL mixes; not just the "popular" or even recent ones, where the quality immensely surpasses the earlier mixes.

NP dude, cool idea. It's been uber slow at work this week, and I've had the chance to find a lot of gems i've previously skipped over. Win-win IMO. :)

I know a few guys have been helping out, but please do some more everyone. Nothing makes me feel like a bigger nerd than seeing the reviews forum spammed with my handle. Please, for my sake, and the sake of my potentially unborn children, review a track or two. Barring the removed mixes, the last 2 pages (28 and 29) are all in the double digits, and that's a decent start. Let's keep rocking, only a few days left!

So it's that Christmas month again, and last year BGC started a really cool movement to get some lesser-listened-to songs more reviews. I think it's a great idea, and I want to bring it back this year.

Basically, there are tons of songs that have less than 20 reviews, and even some with less than 10. I say we all try to find at least one song a day that we haven't listened to, or haven't reviewed, and try to beef up those review threads.

So, take a few minutes and grab a song you haven't heard, or maybe listen to one you haven't reviewed and take a little time to write some comments!

And, for the lame ending sentence,

Frankly, I love this idea, and I'd love to see more reviews.

I've never liked the idea of forcing people to do reviews, and I also feel like if there's any sort of incentive to review, the purity/honesty/motivation/etc. could easily be tarnished, but encouraging people to review just for the sake of giving ReMixers - and other listeners - something to read and consider... I think it's great.

As for incentive, while reviewing a lot of the tracks, I found a ton of *FANTASTIC* ones that I had somehow missed. It's an awesome treasure hunt for amazing music, and that in itself is an awesome reward.

Also, I hear remix reviewers get all the chicks.

What about mixes in the WIP boards? While I understand that reviews are needed for completed and accepted mixes, I do think that WIPs by new composers need some attention as well, which in turn can create more accepted, high-quality mixes. I've just started into remixing music, and I know I could use some reviews of my WIP (Secrets Hidden in the Deep) so that eventually, maybe I can have a completed mix on here to share. I know there are other (mostly somewhat known) remixers who get a lot of attention on their WIPs, but I also know there are others who are just entering into remixing/composing music that get little to no reviews, let alone good reviews (I mean good as in explaining what works, doesn't work and how to fix it, not "Good trumpet, sucky soundscape"). It can be hard without the opinions and knowledge of others to create something good. I came here to post my first WIP and get ideas of how to make it better, and I got almost none (especially on my latest version), which I suspect is because I am not known, someone looking at the WIP boards will think "I don't know him, so I don't know if he's good, but I know who AkumajoBelmont is, I like his stuff, and he has a WIP with vocals in a thread just above this guy's, so it'll probably be good. I want to listen."

I say let's review some accepted remixes (which deserve reviews becauase it's been accepted), but let's also not forget about the WIPs who will eventually become accepted remixes (hopefully, if new remixers continue to get critique).

Ok, so for whatever reason I can't actually post in this thread (and this thread only), so Escariot is my messenger for today.

We're doing really good with reviews! All mixes have more than 3 reviews, and there are only 4 with 4 reviews left! Someone has to get on those, since I've done my part on them. Come on people, lets get everything with at least 5!

Sengin also has a great point about WIPs. The more we help out there, the more quality mixes we get on the front page. Try to take some time to get a listen or two and some feedback to those people.
