Anyone heard of this Sega Genesis game called Rocket Knight Adventures? It's pretty cool! The second one, called Sparkster came out on the Genesis and SNES.

Dear god...

But yes, I've heard of it, it's one of my favorite Mega Drive games. The bosses were awesome, the gameplay was varied and the music was good. Tough too.

God, I love Rocket Knight Adventures. Nice graphics, great music, fun, challenging... It's one of those games that I don't see many people mention much, but was probably one of my favorite games when I was younger.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't some members of the team that developed RKA eventually split off from Konami to form Treasure?

Other than that, I don't know

No, the genesis version of Sparkster is not crap. It's an excellent game with lots of great level design and gameplay ideas.

They were going for different demographics with the two versions. The SNES game was more like a traditional platformer while the other had more focus on speed and action, what with the frequent rocket usage and all.

I bought and actually beat Rocket Knight Adventures. Kickass game. Never played Sparkster though. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I've got RKA on my Mega Drive, stored safely in my closet. I might get it out later. That game was awesome fun, especially on hard mode when it starts putting up a challenge. I didn't really like Sparkster for SNES as much though.

Ah, the game that showed us what a giant possum in a suit of armor with a sword and a massive rocket on his back could REALLY do.

I bought the game about six months ago at a pawn shop for a dollar, but I haven't played it yet. I'll hook the Genesis back up next week after the holidays and try it out.

That is one of the best games. That game made my childhood. Ya know, wouldn't it be great if someone would remix the soundtrack to that game? No one is likely to do it but hey, its all good.

I recall playing that game once (rented from Blockbuster) when I was a wee one. It was great fun, and I though the graphics were amazing, but unfortunately my skills at video games were not up to par at that time, so the game utterly owned my soul. [/frieght train]

My favorite game for the Genesis was James Pond 3.
Great gameplay, good music.
And a good mixture of Sonic and Mario.

Never played RKA or sparkster, but i managed to nab the Sparkster sprite sheet once way back. Just ran across it recently. If i remember correctly, it's pretty complete, but i'm not sure what system it was for. Looks genesis, as it's not as smooth as an SNES game, but the SNES was capable of the same pallates.

Yes, I have both of those games, and I must agree that they both kick large amounts of ass. Sparkster on SNES is my favorite of the two, but they were both great games (I think the Genesis version of sparkster is a little differrent, but I don't know). The music is really good, and the gameplay is cool and the possum has a lot of different ways attacks and ways to travel - walking, jet pack, climbing on rails with his tail, robots, etc.

The games just have so much variety, even more so with Sparkster.

Yeah, Konami can really dish out good games when they get creative.
The only thing I don't like about those games is how he can't be controlled when falling after a jetpack boost.

But didn't they fix that on the Genesis version of Sparkster? I don't know because I don't have it.

I was extremely floored when I read the announcement. Definitely didn't expect Sparkster to make a return. Sadly, I didn't play through the whole series, just the SNES one, which I have fond memories of.

I'm excited, but I gotta be honest, the screenshots making the rounds just don't impress me all that much, not like the other retro games that have been redone. That overblurred background (and the level's looks) just doesn't have the same feeling as the original. Looks like LittleBigPlanet with Sparkster thrown in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see Sparkster making his triumphant return from the good old Rocket Knight days (I own both the Genesis games and I played the hell out of the SNES version as a kid) but graphically, I'm not really diggin' the new look so far.

Still, looking forward to more news. :)

So long as it doesn't play like the horrible Genesis Sparkster (which is nothing like the SNES sparkster), I'll be interested.
The screenshots are a little weird though. I don't think I like that art style.

I have both RKA and Sparkster on my Genesis which I've played through a hundred times. I thoroughly played through Sparkster on the SNES as a child also.

My only problem with Sparkster on the Genesis is that, graphically and superficially, it felt like a step backward from Rocket Knight Adventures. The art just wasn't as inspired, imo.

Sparkster on the SNES was a lot of fun to play, but yeah, completely different games. SNES version was pathetically easy in comparison to the Genesis title(s), that said, there are still a lot of memorable moments in the Super Nintendo version.

... Rocket Knight Adventures is still my favorite. I like the fact that you can do damage with direct sword attacks. The graphics are just more fun and appealing imo.

It's, uh, generally frowned upon to resurrect a three-years dead thread to post a form advertisement of your midirip which isn't even really on topic to the discussion...

I still have the original cartridge with case and booklet. I played the crap out of it. It took me years to beat it. I will never forget it.

EDIT: Wow, a thread so old I actually forgot I already posted in it. Where the hell did this one come from?

Well hey, why don't we turn this necro-bump into a discussion about the upcoming entry in the series coming out for 360, PS3, and Steam next month? I'm super excited for it.

Info here (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3172384) for anyone who didn't know about it.

Wish I had the $11.99 to get it on sale. I loved RKA and both versions of Sparkster. A part of me wants to wait until some reviews have come in, but another part (the part that's broke) wants to say, "Fuck it, just get it!"

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Feels just like the original games, which was probably no mean feat in 2.5D, and is a definite plus.

Though I'm encountering some graphical errors. Some rocket and water effects are showing up in the foreground, which isn't an issue with the rocket, but really got annoying when I was on the lowest section of stage 1 and I couldn't see where I was walking. (thankfully that part was a flat platform with no pits and no enemies)
