The People's Remix Competition 85
PRCv4-7
Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) PRC84 saw the second Sonic-related PRC in a row, and among the range of entries it managed to attract, Sir Nuts took the win with something that goes straight back towards his trance roots. Nice work.
PRC85 pays host to a game that he transcribed a lot of MIDIs for at VGMusic (look deep in the New-Files) and thus won't stop talking about it. But I think it's about time that can do with some PRC coverage. Come on peeps, it's Taito :D
http://bev.wooff.googlepages.com/prc85.jpg
For this prc I'm picking a track from a game that I love. it's little samson, for NES. A game that was pretty overlooked because it came out late in the NES era, when the 16 bit systems were gaining momentum. Still, it's one of the most refined platform games I've ever played, and if you haven't played it yet I suggest you do because you're missing a darn fine game.
This track is Kikira the dragon's theme, one of the main characters of the game. I made the midi myself a long time ago(almost 2 years I think) so excuse me if there's any difference between the original and this. I think it's a pretty playful song that I'll love to mix it myself someday and I hope you all will like to mix it for this competition.
Good bye, and good luck.

Now that he picked this, there's one step done on his way to infect this game in our minds. :p We hope from this we get quite the PRC audience to boot. Anyway...
GOOD LUCK!

I'd like to think I can enter. Although it will depend on sixth form committments and all that jazz.

Neat. Neat game too, very nice group dynamic. If it was a cartoon in the early 90's, I'd be getting nostalgic about it right now.
No guarantees... one of those: "I'll listen to it 30 more times" sort of source tunes.

Ohhhh, this is a source I can delve into...
I may enter this one, depending on outer commitments, but expect some sort of smooth jazz if nothing else.

BTW, how's the policy when it comes to getting PRC entries released on OCR? I'm interested in subbing this mix to.. is it one or the other or does it have to be subbed before the PRC is through or what?

Chances are that the song will be judged after PRC is over, so you can submit it now I think. Anyways Rexy is now on command of PRC so I don't know what she thinks but as far as I'm concerned you can submit your mix now since it won't get judged anytime soon.

The problem is that I already have a (slightly worsE) remix up for subbing.. mailed it like 2 weeks ago.. I'll PM a judge :D
Sir_NutS
01-08-2007, 09:31 PM
The allowed timespan between submissions is roughly two weeks so I don't think there would be a problem.
Nuts got it right. You can sub the song to the judges if you want to, yet in the end you know for sure that they won't see your track for another few weeks. :P I say you host it on whatever server space you have, or if you have problems, pass it over to either me or Douli.

Another Soundscape - Lair of Kikira
ReMix info: This is an industrial mix of Kikira's Theme (duh) made entirely in Reason 3.0, using a lot of original samples and obscure ReFills (distorted toysynths, old junk and such).
This remix was done mainly to ridicule the cuteness in the Little Samson game. After listening to the original track over 20 times to get inspiration I was so sick of the cuteness of the theme so I decided to make a really dark and somewhat heavy mix.
Like, what if Kikira the Dragon was one of those big, evil, man-eating dragons you've heard so much about instead?
All vocals and lyrics are done by Kholdstare, all credit goes out to him, the only thing I did was process them.
The original lyrics in order of appearence:
Let the roar of the dragon sound
Why did you come here?
What did you seek to obtain?
Get out now!
Let the roar of the dragon sound,
Your corpse falls to the ground
Before I end this I want to point out that I'm really a happy guy XD.
If you like my ReMix, please vote for it. Thank You.

Haha one of the best inspirational ideas i've heard in awhile. I won't be able to make it this round, but keep dem mixes coming!
LAOS, I would rather blame my University time schedule. I've been working on the final documentation of my music technology coursework almost all this week and I've barely had time to stop and chat, let alone update signatures. :( Sorry about that.
I can see we have two entries hosted and a third in the making, but for me it's not quite enough for a voting poll. Alex, we'll wait on you before we can get this underway. Or maybe we can wait til tomorrow for other new challengers.

Rexy; Let's wait a few days maybe? no fun in competing only 3 people :P
The way I see it, three could very well be a minimum requirement. On top of that, I don't know about a few days - the PRC needs to keep running promptly.
If we start on Sunday (tomorrow), the results will come through by Wednesday, giving the winner 2 days to pick a PRC source tune. So by delaying it even more, they won't have much time to choose.

EDIT: Alright! I have a submission:
www.soundclick.com/eclipsis (Lil' Samson).
I'm sorry Chavous, but we can't accept it. If you wanted to use Soundclick, at least make it so that we don't have to wait til the following day to download it. And with the way this is going, we don't have the time for it.
Either way, I'm doing the remaining uploads and should start this up momentarily.

Lo and behold, the competitions forum is online :D It looks like PRC has found a new home for a good amount of time... and I need to get cracking on polishing something for the ORC revival.
It may be time for voting around here, but in the case of this re-invention, a winner is djp. Thank you :)

I see it as a good thing, Señor Molina. This is interlinked within the General Discussion area, so when you view the forums the latest post could be from anywhere, whether it be from community, announcements, here or the Help and Newbies forums. Subforums will work well for a solid reason of separating the general discussion topics and still making them as potent as ever.
On top of that, another great thing is that these competitions will be archived now that we have this place. So if anyone is reading this in the middle of July (or in TO's case, the middle of January), you've just seen how it all works. ;)

Damn my wicked timezone... I have to go to bed.
Yep, there's 9 hours left if you want to vote. I say go for it if you haven't done so already.
Two more things - though I am a competition leader, I still require mod rights to edit these damn titles to let us know when we're finished and whatnot. That's the only thing I hate about this new forum system.
And on top of that, happy birthday to Another Soundscape :D

To run a competition on a busy schedule is impressive in and of itself hun, especially since both University and PRC are relatively demanding... it's because of that that I'm both astonished and glad to see that it has been more on time now than ever.
I think something I have to continue to do to motivate me to participate in PRC's is enforce strict limitations on myself like I was doing before. That always seems to help.
So ok, let's do it. Here's my next goal:
My next PRC contribution, preferably PRC86, shall be made entirely with a piece of software which is completely foreign to me.

Funny.. being 18 still sucks as hard as being 17 XD
Okay, it's results time :D Again, I wish I had mod priviledges so that I could edit the topic and tell people when it's done. Still, here we are.
Total number of remixes - 4
Total number of votes - 8
Highest possible score - 32
Manic Cinq gets another last place wooden spoon with 13 points.
Xela follows on at third place with 18 points.
Dragonlord managed to settle for second place with 24 points.
And the winners of PRC85 are Another Soundscape & Kholdstare with 28 points!
It's not very often that I see a debut from coming talent succeeding in a PRC like this one, but I salute you two for managing to get this far. Another Soundscape, considering the whole thing was your idea, I would like you to have your source tune ready for this Friday. It can be just about any song you want, as long as it hasn't been covered on OCR before.
And I will like to bring back the news of the return of the Original Remix Competition! The Orichalcon has made a decision to commence with the contest once again, and it will begin with ORC49 this coming Friday. So there we have it - the two sister competitions will once again run side by side. Be there, or be square.

Nice work. I couldn't vote (booo) BUT I did downloaded and listened to all the songs. AS, your song was really nice and I dig it a lot. I didn't like some parts that I considered a bit boring and enjoyed the more wacky stuff, but overall it was a very nice remix and a great entrance to the pretty world of PRC =). I would have voted you first, and Dragonlord second, his song was really nice as well and I loved the variation of the original, but even with that Dragonlord played it safer than AS. Anyways both were great songs, and Xela's and Maniq cinqs as well, hope to see you all next time!.

thanks avaris. For my next PRC entry I'm going for a totally different style. Well, that's if the source allows me to do what I have in mind. Think neo-classical electronica. xD
I can say it's creative enough to go classical, but that could be me. All I can say is that AS has sent me his source and it's among one of the more interesting I have seen in terms of PRC submissions.
