Final Fantasy 'Hostility'
Probably one of Pollard's rougher sounding mixes. The patches used
just don't seem to be up to the caliber we've all come to expect from
him. However, if you're looking for a good mix of FF1 battle music
you don't have too many options, so don't turn your nose at it so
quickly.
Brian Duque did it better. I know it sounds cold, but there's no way around those GM-ish synths. I like how it plays around with the score toward the end, and tries to the harpsichord thing, but ultimately the instumentation keeps it from ever getting off the ground.

This a MIDI-explosion of a FF1 track! AARGH!

I like it but a bit rough...o well better luck next time!!
Some of the additional arrangement parts sound great, like the strings and harpsichord halfway through, but some just don't really make sense.

Yeah, I thought the Harpsichord-ey part really added to it.

The arrangement isn't really that bad, and the part at 1:00 is pretty cool, but the sounds are lacking. Unfortunate, really, because this could have been better than it was.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I really liked the little interlude from 1:04 to 1:25, but the rest of the mix really kinda turns me off. The percussion in the beginning and the end, especially the drums, doesn't sound that great to me is a little overpowering. I don't particularly like the horns, either, but I think they fit with what you're going for here.

This mix is a rather quick rendition with seemingly little to offer. But for some reason I really like this song. I don't really have a good reason, I just like it.

There is not much to like here. The samples all sound very thin and the arrangement does not help.
Parts like the one at 0:28 sound light, thin and uninspired. The tom roll at 0:38 sounds like something one would do to impress with his technical abilities, but it has really no place in the song. In fact, the drum sounds really experimental, which would be fine if there had been a solid texture to back it up, but there unfortunately isn't.
The only good part, in my opinion, is the harpsichord part and it seems like totally original material to me.

Poor samples aside, there's not terribly much going on here - it has a rough basis for what could be a nice mix, but it's way too short at 1:46, with things clearly not explored very far leaving this song to become stale pretty fast.

Hrm.. I'm sorry but I'm just not a fan of this one. The NES/chip sound at the beginning didn't seem to fit at all, and then right after that it just dives on in. Overall this just sounds rough because of the samples used, the drums are kind of grating and boring to me, and there's just not a lot of artistic interpretation going on. When the harpsichord hit, I kinda perked because, 'Hey, different!' but it didn't last long at all, and that's what I wanted to hear more of. Not just another drums and generic rawk version of the FF1 battle theme. This song is pretty short too, which is good in this case as I can't imagine it dragging on longer...
I see nothing else by ViolentRage so I can't comment there, however if you're looking for something from mp I'd recommend looking elsewhere. He's improved quite a bit since this song, and his other stuff is more quality imo.

Feels it could've been part of the original game soundtrack - certainly drums that panicky feeling you might get when you're low on health and the Big Bad is chasing you around...
