To play CS with this? (http://www.virtusphere.net/index.html)

I'd rather play something like Doom or Resident Evil with it...
...that would rock.

Considering your average CS player only exercises his hands when playing, and his mouth when eating cheetos, I highly doubt they would be up for a game that involves actually walking, let alone sanding up.

No, I've heard some guys that don't shut up. Gah!

I think Oblivion would play well with that.
Think about EvE online with that thing, a chair with wheels and motors on the wheels that follows what your ship is doing on screen.

I don't see any image there. Am I missing some inside joke or something?

If everyone's talking about something that you're not seeing in the first post, sometimes it pays off to mouse over the text.

maybe the next model will have a cheeto dispenser and a chair inside

It's like taking a 10 mile hike without actually going anywhere!
Actually, maybe I should consider this thing :P I like hiking

We needs ta get that fix'd.
Also, this thing looks poentially pretty awesome. Ladders would be somewhat awkward, though.

It would probably require significantly more infrastructure to sustain 300-pound guys trying to triple jump.

Imagine the 300lbs guys trying to do Mario's butt stomp.

Isn't that what the Wii is for?
And yeah seriously, there needs to be a fix to make links a different color. I almost thought there was nothing there.

Some how I have a feeling that a guy using a plain old mouse and keyboard would completely destroy a guy using this thing on pretty much any game.

That's why it would probably only be for single player games, or multiplayer with only those being used.

Meh, but the Wii can only give an upper-body workout and you can also become an effective nunchauk user.

my GOD, man! are you insane? it would be a phobiacs nightmare, fear of inclosed spaces and heights!! but i'd love it!
how bout FUSION FRENZY!!!!?
fighting games? naw, forcefeed back is needed... collision detection would be a nightmare. but i totally like the idea. they should have a door instead of a hole so you can't break your leg running away from the zombies/aliens/ghosts (pac-man!!)/goblins(wow fan's stereotype turned into an athelete)/ nazis/ or anyother badguy.
its like those nascar cars in malls. moving chasis and multiple screens simulating the track. cool in theory but not really an everyday thing.

I had an idea like this when I was talking about virtual reality. I was ponder how to move, and a treadmill had crossed my mind. So I figured why not a giant sphere on a freely rotation axis? It would be like being in a ball mouse, but crazy. Also, there would have to be a custom-made game for it, as not much would truly capture the feeling.

That'd be pretty fun to play CS in, even though it would take much getting used to.
Oh, and for those who didn't see the image: He linked to another web site to show the picture, but OCR's skin shows links as the same color as plain text. So here it is:

I bet they just took the door off for the picture, as it's kind of hard to see inside otherwise. It would need a door anyways, especially since you'd be wearing a headset and literally unable to watch your step.
It's an interesting implementation, but unless it also detects your leg, arm and head movements as well as posture, the immersion will be hard to keep up. Not to mention you'll be always walking up a perpetual incline.
Expensive and space consuming as hell to I reckon.
The more I think about virtual reality type setups, the more convinced I am that the best solution would be to bypass the physical realm almost entirely, and instead relay impluses such as movement, touch, etc. passively to and from the brain. Sound and video could still be supplied by headsets or the like.
Of course on a technological level we're not there yet, but advances are being made. For example, if I recall correctly, there was this one experiment where people were able to affect the position of a mouse on a computer screen by thinking about moving their arm. I don't think it unlikely that in the future we'll be able to accurately interpret brain signals to recreate similar fine motor skills in a virtual world.
