Rumors of Guitar Hero being moved over to practically every console in existence have been rampant for a while now. Well, it looks like we've finally got a release date for the 360 version from Activision. Guitar Hero 2 will be releasing in March in both, the U.S. and Europe, and will, of course, feature a crapload of exclusive downloadable content via Live. The game itself will feature better graphics (it better), new songs and the new wired X-Plorer guitar designed specifically for the 360 release.

Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing, RedOctane, said of the game when it was first unveiled back at X06 last September: “With its large integrated hard drive, Xbox 360 provides an incredible platform for facilitating downloadable content. We believe there is no better title to feature micro-transactions than a music game like Guitar Hero II, where the content is the basis of your experience. The relationship with the Xbox Live Marketplace creates endless possibilities for exclusive content.”

I wonder what are some of the new songs going to be. I hope it's more Megadeth, especially from Rust in Peace. Oh! And some Iron Maiden would be awesome! How about more Pantera and maybe some Nevermore? More metal!

Xbox 360 exclusive tracks to include:

* "Hush" - Deep Purple
* "Dead!" - My Chemical Romance
* "Billion Dollar Babies" - Alice Cooper
* "Salvation" - Rancid
* "Possum Kingdom" - Toadies
* "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" - Rick Derringer
* "Life Wasted" - Pearl Jam
* "The Trooper" - Iron Maiden
* "Drink Up" - Ounce of Self
* "Kicked to the Curb" by Noble Rot

(as per Wikipedia)

So looks like you get your wish on some Iron Maiden there, Guy In Rubber Suit.

Also, MCR's "Dead!" and the Toadies' "Possum Kingdom" are two more master tracks.

I am stoked about Dead!, myself. That's a good song, probably 6th or 7th tier.

Another Deep Purple song, awesome. "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" is a great song, too. For those who don't know, Derringer was a member of the Edgar Winter Group (who's song Frankenstein was in the first GH), he discovered Weird Al Yankovic, and he wrote and performed Hulk Hogan's theme song in the WWE. It's about time he got some more recognition.

It makes you wonder if the extra songs for the long-hinted-at Wii version will be the same or not...

The Iron Maiden song just puts the others on that list to shame. It's a song that long needed to be in Guitar Hero! I'll be picking this up sometime after it comes out :) .

I'm actually not too excited about the new songs, not that I have a 360 in the first place. I would really like to see a Red Hot Chilli Pepper's song in GH, specifically something from their new album like "Tell Me Baby". The baseline is pretty sweet.

there was a chilli peppers song in the first one, "higher ground" if i'm not mistaken. It seems like with GH1 they had alot more popular music IE queens of the stoneage, incubus, chilli peppers. GH2 seemed more like the classics. I'd like them to add more current stuff, hopefully it'll surface on the marketplace.

Well, I am excited for this game. But only because my roommate has an Xbox 360 and plans to buy it.

Just hope the 360 version still has TROOOOGDOR!

I planned on buying this just for the xplorer guitar controller and the marketplace downloads, but the trooper and derringer makes it even more worth it.

I'd be willing to bet my life savings that there will be a game called Guitar Hero 3 that comes out sometime in the future. It might be awhile, it might completely suck, it might be "MTV presents: Guitar Hero 3 feat. Fergie!", but no matter what happens, it WILL come out.

Seems a bit too quick to come out. I bet they were working on that alongside with Guitar Hero II.
