Zelda 'Rabbit Joint Cover'

Every couple of months without fail some new guy on the forum pops up claiming this is from a group called "System of a Down". I have never heard System of a Down and don't really have any desire to, so I can't comment on that too much. All I can say I am sick of hearing about it and that this is definitely The Rabbit Joint and they have nothing to do with that other band.

Regardless this guy is definitely on acid or something. He is trippin' HARD. But that's what makes this tune so hilarious. The guy sounds like he is having a schizo attack and he's singing about Zelda. What more could you want? Definitely entertaining and stands up to repeated listenings, despite its craziness and lack of enunciation. Reminds me of that crazy guy in that old NES Zelda commercial with the freaked out look on his face screaming "Octarocks!!!" I guess Zelda and insanity go hand in hand.

kick ass song, man.

The fact is, it really, truely, does sound like System Of A Down. I suggest locating a copy of "Sugar" by said band and giving it a listen. To me that just says The Rabbit Joint did a hell of a job on it. I'd give it 5 stars but i'm out of extra stars, so it'll just get 5 blank cds. In the shape of stars.

Slammin' piece. :)

This piece really moves. If you've ever been familiar with newgrounds.com, you know that someone did a sing-a-long flash movie to it. With proper alignment, the movie comes off good, but back to the song. Short, and has a few lyrics that just kinda are there. Then again, we don't need a story of a song! Quite an interesting effort. Good for Grabs.

I think the download is worth it just to hear the lead scream "HALLELUJAH!!! in a most unhinged and undignified manner.

Short and sweet, it'd be nice if it were longer - but then, how could the next verse get better? it could only go downhill from where it was left. :)

I, too, have compared these vocals to several System of a Down songs like Toxicity. Except for all of the arguments I've heard, I never would have suspected that System of a Down DID NOT sing Rabbit Joint Cover. It really sounds as though SoaD sang this Zelda piece.

It doesn't help that all over the net it's been mislabeled as such. Anyways, it's a short but sweet take on zelda with rocking lyrics.

Wow....you're famous man. I have friends who sing these lyrics constantly. You created a legend in itself right here.

All of you, be quiet! Are you here to review and post supposedly constructive criticism or to complain about mislabeled music  I liked this a lot.... but whether or not this guy is on drugs is completely different matter. Best of all, it's not techno, nor does it have anything resembling techno. It's short, fun, and simply beautiful. 7/8

OH YEAH, this is the shit that i got to get stuck in my head for a few months. What the hell is with this system of a down crap, this doesn't sound like them at all, i've heard a few of their songs but the guy is no where near this guy's voice. Now fill up your hearts, so you can shoot your sword with power!!!

Oh man, I remember the first time my friend downloaded this off of Napster. Is think it was about 2 years ago. I memorized the words and even tried to convince my friends what he was really saying in the song.

There's no way this could be done by System of a Down. It just doesn't have Serj Tankian's vocal style, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I give it 3 out of 5 for being a fun little number that sounds like but isn't SoaD.

Oi, are you stupid or something? It has already been stated in just about EVERY post in this topic, not to mention the song page, that SYSTEM OF A DOWN DID NOT DO THIS SONG. Some people just don't know how to read, I guess. :x

Oh, and whoever asked the question about the lyrics...it's a good question.

To me it sounds like, "...and when you're feeling all down, the fairy will come around, so you'll be brave, and somethingsomething (it sounds like "not as easy") coward!". The last couple words sound pretty ****ed up.

Edit: I just found that Flash animation, which I've never seen before, and those words I didn't know were "not a sissy coward".

**beats invulnerable23 and theoutcast with the n00b stick copiously for their lack of general common sense**

This song is pretty groovy. Instrumentation is good, and the vocals are plain CRAAAYZAY. I didn't like it as first, but now I can't stop listening to it.

Link, he comes to town, comes to save the princess Zelda
Ganon took her away, now the children don't play
but they will, when Link saves the day
ALELUYA!
Now Link...
Fill up your hearts, so you can shoot, the sword of power
and when you're feeling wear down, the fairy will come around
so you'll be brave and not a sissy coward!
Now link has saved the day, but Ganon..(whatever, whatever)
so now that Zelda is free and now I hear yupee
Link, I think your name shall go down into history.

That's what I understand.. can someone give more exact lyrics? lol

From what I heard, it's...

Link! He come to town!
Come to save the princess Zelda!
Ganon took her away,
Now the children don't play,
But they will, when Link saves the day!
HALLELUJA!

Now Link, fill up your hearts,
So you can shoot your sword with power,
And when you're feeling all down,
The fairy will come around,
So you be brave, and not a sissy coward!

Now Link, has saved the day!
Put Ganon in his grave!
So now our Zelda is free,
And now a hero shall be,
Link, I think your name shall go down into history!

Heh...I'm glad I finally know the truth. I've thought for SO LONG that System of a down did this, I don't even like them, this was the only song that I thought they did and liked. All of my friends know this song too, I will have to tell them the truth too.
And how many of you have seen the AMV of Slayers to this song? The maker even said it was done by System of a Down.

The_Clover
07-12-2003, 10:47 AM
I knew for a FACT that System of a Down didn't do this...

I just didn't know who.

When I d/l it from the net (mutliple occassions) they either said sytem of a down or Weird Al. I was more inclined to Weird Al, but I knew neither one of them did this song.

But after watching LegendaryFrog's music video of this song, I now know, and it was under my nose the whole time! Right here at our blessed OCR.

Anywho, back to the point of this message thread. I really liked this song. It wasn't great musical genious, but it's an instant classic. The lyrics and the infliction of the singer's voice just make this enjoyable to listen to. It's right around in the same boat as Zelda 'The Music of my Groin'

This song kicks ass, Hero of Time style!

This was the song that brought me to this site after it was mentioned in Official Nintendo Magazine as being by SoaD. Millions of corrections later it was said as being the highly drugged up Rabbit Joint but it's still the song that sets OCR apart. Anyone with anything like a sense of humour will love it. 1 minute of pure heaven (and spasticated lyrics).

wow i never knew this song was on OC.
the first time i ever heard it i thought it sounded similar SOAD, but i was unsure
i was especially convinced after i got one of their albums for my birthday and gave it a listen and thought: man, they did not do that song. its just too happy and bouncy, and though i am a fan of SOAD, this is way better than they are. but that's beside the point.

i LOVE this song. ive memorized the lyrics by heart. i scare people on shopping outings by singing it with my sister. but not only are the lyrics awesome...but the background music is brilliant!
man, this song is like 100 out of 10

Yes, this song rocks. Yes, System of a Down did not do this song. Anyone who has heard anything by them should be able to see that.
Also, I heard a song by a band called Choji Moji that has the exact same lyrics as this, only with some extra stuff in the middle. It kinda sounds like crap. :| Oh well, this song still kicks ass.

Yeah, this kicks some serious arse. The lyrics are insanely catchy and percussion is lively :D Nice.

I as well thought it to be SOAD song when I first heard it.

Ever since I saw the music video for this on ABS, I vowed to find it. Little did I know, it was sitting on my favorite site.
One day, I decided to DL all the zelda mixes, and there it was. I love this song! The instruments are good and the vocals are funny. I sing this one all the time and annoy everyone. Then they give in and sing along with me.
Thank you, The Rabbit Joint!

I originally found this listed as created by "Mr. Bungle." I am happy that the original remixers have credit. In my opinion, this is a million times better than the "groin" song. I would much rather listen to this. If there has to be a Zelda parody song, this is definitely the one to chose. I love it!

HOW is this System of a Down?! I thought they were all rap and stuff!? Secondly, why would they make a SHORT song about a VIDEO GAME!? That's just stupid.

Anyway, I love this song. Interesting. Took me a while to understand the lyrics. A bit too short. I would have loved to hear a long version of it :p

Plenty of people make short songs about video games... look around you.

And why would it be stupid? Are you saying that popular bands can't be stupid and like video games at the same time and make a fun parody of it? (Of course I have yet to hear one, but still)

I found that song on winmx, could have SWORN it was System of a Down. Soad isn't rap they are a rock band. They did however did a song with a rapper. It sucked. Don't remember the name of the rapper but the title of the song was "Feel Good". So, I guess the Zelda Theme song by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails probably isn't him either? That was pretty cool too. Gotta love people who do game songs! LOL

It is a great song but do not lash out on SOAD fans because they all did not all steal credit for the Rabbit Joint song. They should have no reason to, because SOAD already has some good songs out there. The person who is responsible can go fuck himself for making confusion, dividing gaming & music patrons, and also for saying the music was made by one person when it was made by another. That is considered plagerism or something to that effect. I am sincerly sorry that you feel hatred to all SOAD fans because of one person's mistake, error of judgement, and bullshit.

So, months later, I'm going to reply to that with:

Yes, but that song is much more swing than ska. Still pretty good (if it weren't for that damned brass sample), but it's not the kind of stuff I'm thinking of. Also, that song doesn't really sound much like Reel Big Fish to begin with.

D'oh! I feel stupid now. I got this off Shareaza under a SoaD filename. Ouch. At the time I hadn't heard anything by System of a Down, so... :S

Excellent song though. :D I wonder if Rabbit Joint is still around? I hope this wasn't just a one-time thing... (though it would be interesting, like a sort of "one-hit wonder" effect in OCR, maybe?)

The sound of this cover sounds a bit like They Might Be Giants to me. Its silliness is also reminiscent of Weird Al. Kind of like a weird love child of the two? :D

about the song, I LOVE this song, hell, my brother got people to sing it (via text) over a zone in EverQuest once (if anyone's familiar with the MMORPG), this song is immensely popular, and for good reasons. RABBIT JOINT, PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER COVER!!! 10/10 on my scale... just finding out that this song is not SOAD (bash me with the n00b-stick if you want) is a little surprising... I am a huge fan of the band, and my first mix list of their first 3 albums included this song. on the comments on whether SOAD would have done this song or not - IMO, they would have probably done this song or a song similar, just never put it on their albums... I mean, just listen to some of their stuff from the self-titled, Steal This Album! or even Mesmerize, it's got "I'm on crack and I'm good at singing too" written all over. I'm not suggesting they're on anything, but some of the songs are just wack.

Okay, not really. Fact is, I get a good laugh out of this song whenever I hear it. It's amazing because this song has probably been heard by just as many people as a SOAD song has. I don't know a single young person (15-30) that hasn't heard this song. Either way, it was a lot of fun when I first heard it way back when and it's still fun now.

Hate to be Captain Obvious here, but Napster appeared in 1999. Lay off the drugs, yo.

This is a must-listen-to for every Zelda fan. I mean, I don't care who wrote it, it's amazing. I can never get enough of these original lyrics. And they're just plain random and funny! I think this remix will go down in history too!

Wow, OCremix has this Song!!!! Yeah!

I remember, surfing the internet one day,
I searched for Zelda tunes, curious in a way.
And as I searched, I stumbled on,
A web page with lyrics to a song.
Rabbit Joint, the page said.
A weird name, I know, and I shook my head.
I read the lyrics, Link, he come to town
And on my face, protruded a frown.
I need to hear this! I yelled aloud.
Unfortunatly, finding it was like walking on a cloud.
No luck... till one day,
I visited a friend, who as doing okay.
He turned on a CD... and Rabbit Joint he played!
Zelda... Alas! He had made my day.
I asked him to copy it for me... but he told me no!
And I tried to hurt him,
And step on his toe.
Until finally he gave in,
Copied it for me....
And so I went home, smiling with glee!
Ever since, I listen to that song,
and think to myself... nothing could go wrong.
It is the best song ever,
And always will be.... Yeah.

If I was 'The Rabbit Joint' and my song went around and millions of people around the world credited somebody else for it because of some guy misnaming the MP3 on KaZaA or something I'd be pretty annoyed.

The thing is, we DO know that it was the Rabbit Joint. The song was posted here first, and then it started floating around on Kazaa when people mislabelled it. That's why people THINK it's by System of a Down, but it really isn't. Hardcore SoaD fans have verified this for us. People have gone to SoaD fansites and done the research, etc etc.

Drop the subject.

It's not an alt; in any case, this isn't the place to discuss that kind of thing.

How can people seriously beleive it was by SoaD... That's kind of harsh...
The guy who sings it is some kind of hispanic... Nobody in SoaD is hispanic from what I know...
Hell I'm pretty sure the lead singer Serj is... Brown or something... I don't know.. He confuses me.
But I DO know that he does NOT sound like the guy who sang this song. At all.

Hi
Can you please send me the words to that Zelda song - we have figured out the first verse but cannot understand the second.
Thanks much - I have a 7 year old that loves it and I was a zelda freak back in the 80s and still play
THanks
Dan

Oh man, I remember the first time my friend downloaded this off of Napster. Is think it was about 2 years ago. I memorized the words and even tried to convince my friends what he was really saying in the song.

Haha! Spectacular! Such gusto in that voice...

I just noticed that starting at 0:44, I think the singer dubbed himself over singing in falsetto, which just sounds hilarious now that I'm hearing it.

Oh man, this song. Like everyone else, downloaded it off Napster back in 2000 or so, found out years later that it wasn't SoaD. Finding out years later (now) that it was on OCR all this time.

Still a great, weird-ass song.

Good god, how are people still pushing this. Isn't there a statute of limitations for false info or something?

I say let it be. Its too late to convince people otherwise now.

Besides, its not like its hurt the popularity of the track :D

Pretty overrated if you ask me, but it's gone gangbusters globally and benefited the site immensely, which is very cool.
I can see where the comparisons to Serj Tankian come from; the falsetto harmonies, quirky shaping and grizzled yelling are signature for the System of a Down singer, but I'm pretty sure that's where the similarities end. As far as production quality, this doesn't even come close to a SoaD soundtest.
As a bit of music, I would never select this as an important piece. But from a historical perspecitve, it's a very crucial, very significant monument for the site. A lot of people, including myself, should be indebted to it, but that doesn't mean I have to praise the music itself. It's nothing more than some slapped together lyrics jammed over a barebones, straightforward cover of the Zelda theme. No magic to speak of for me.

It's a good thing no one is asking you, then. Sounds like you're just jealous. At any rate, it's a fun, energetic rendition of the song that became famous because it's good. Congratz to Rabbit Joint.

This is probably "technically" the first OCRemix I've ever heard... of course I listened to it long before I ever knew about this site :-P I remember hearing this and passing it around to all my friends in middle school and watching their amazement at how "System of a Down cares about video games!" and whatnot. How innocent I once was...

This is a classic though :-) Glad to finally hear where it really came from!

As such is the case with many before me, this was my "first" ReMix ever heard, although I didn't know it at the time. Cool to hear it again after however many years it's been, though. Somewhat interesting that Zelda's title theme has given birth to such gems as this (see also: "The Music of My Groin" :-P).

Someone (Rabbit Joint?), somewhere, did an extended version of this song, with verses about fighting big bats in dungeons and getting the owl to help him out of the Lost Woods. Does that version exist, aside from having its lyrics posted once on one forum?

Ok correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Weird Al do a cover/spoof/parody of this song?

I see the whole discussion about it not being a System song, but it doesn't bother me either way.

I think it would be hysterical if Weird Al did indeed parody it, since it wan't a mainstream artist that wrote it. :)

What else can be said. This is classic OCR at its best. Silly song, but the production is good. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this one.

Hahaha, I can't believe how many people on other sites still think this is by either SoaD or Weird Al. To be fair, in some places it kinda does sound like SoaD I suppose, but the Weird Al thing, I don't hear it myself. Either way, it's a nice little tune that probably benefitted from the false label anyway by being heard by non-OCR folks, so it's a bit of a win/loss and then win again. The song is great itself and even though it's a bit too short, it's a great little bite sized ReMix.
