Ugh, I hate the competitions section of the forum. These comps wont get nearly as many hits as they would if they just stayed in gendisc.
Oh well, good luck to those playing.
Hit me up when another moves tourny starts, Kamoh!

So far I've got salaxzar, JD, and myself looking at administrative roles (captain, arbiter). Everything's still cool, we've got plenty of time, and I think damathacus is willing to captain as well...

I'd love for you guys to recruit as much as you could - the more players we have the more fun it's gonna be
Oh, and some details on this:
Everyone will be assigned two matches, with no halfmatches getting in the way. You will likely play one opponent from each of the other two teams (unless your team has less players, then you might play the same team twice). Rules are the same as usual for OCRCL matches, but you're fighting to get the most points for your own team.:)

Hey kids, bumping this one.
Deadline to register is on Friday, so make sure you tell your friends. Also, who wants to captain again? I would rather not captain if at all possible (I wouldn't be at the same level as the other captains), and it makes the most sense for me to referee the damn thing.

Here are some of the important rules for team play:
Your teammates will not be allowed to watch your game to assist you - use private tables, and only players from the non-playing team may (and should) enter - however, you may consult them outside of the table if you wish.
For the reason above, 10/10 clocks will be used. This means that play-calling is increasingly difficult, and coaching is generally going to be your best bet if you'd like help from a teammate.
Of course, it's likely that you won't have teammates around to coach you through your matches, so there's no requirement that you recieve help - it's really the way that it ought to be, anyways.
But I can't stop everything that goes on, so instead of making it cheating to consult, I'm going to make it very very difficult for JD or Keegan or Uranus to basically dictate the entire match out to their teammates.

Grayfox has joined, bringing the number of players to 12, making the teams even. At this point, bringing more players in is NO PROBLEM, so if you have people or you want to join but don't want to affect the balance of the tournament, don't worry - I have a plan for uneven teams. I'm just glad that there's at least this many people.

Another ringer? Time will tell, I suppose.Looks like maybe. It'll be up to the team captains to decide whether to draft though.
Deadline passed, we have three players.
Anyone else up for captaincy? Uranus and JD are currently my guys, Rainman or damathacus, would you like to captain?

Frankly, I want to be on one of these guys' teams. Can we have just 3 captains this go around? I mean, I'll pick up the slack if someone has to, but I think I'd enjoy it more if it was just the three behemoths and some of us patzers making up the teams.

Some keys:
Teammates may not watch your game, but they may coach you from AIM or something. For this reason, use 10/10 clocks in order to cut down on the impact of teammate coaching. Undo Turn is STILL not allowed.
Reports are always going to be a +1/-1 swing. The divide is the same as a win vs. a loss, but the team not involved ends up in the middle.
No bypasses. The Rusty Buckets, for playing four less games, are given four "bye" points to offset the advantage of playing more games.
If you have problems, you should try and petition your captain for advice - but I'm usually the best source as well. Captains are marked with a (c) in the standings above.
The Rusty Bucket is a Tavern in Columbus, where JD lives. The Nordic Wegie is a cutesy term for the breed of two of my cats. The Married Woman is what Margo is.
Margo is still looking for a team name :P
Start playing now, and the last moment for games will be MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH @ 11:59 PM (pacific time). Super Bowl Sunday should never be the end of an OCRCL week.

I have to say, I think Kamoh did a remarkable job of splitting up the talent so that, while one player might have a small edge over his/her two opponents, across teams, the advantages are negligible.

Yeah but I didn't do that. You can thank your team captains for somehow putting themselves in the 1, 2, and 3 slots (I put myself 1 because I figured the weakest player might be 14...which was true). This is purely coincidental to a certain degree - the entire schedule is made simple but can be horribly complex - later tonight I will undoubtedly be breaking down my team's matchups and seeing where we need points if we're not gonna get them, and try to give reachable goals to all my players. For example, my goal is 10 points (3-0-1).

yeah, talk about instant trial-by-fire for him. But I expected it - I think because his AIM sn had chess in it and everything I kinda lofted him at high expectations. He probably considers this a major challenge (I hope) and we'll see more out of him in the future.
In other news, The Rusty Buckets are dynastic. I may dock them their bye points.

I'm afraid I may have inadvertently taken advantage of Amazgr8's incapacitated state for our first game. He was pretty tired, and I didn't take him seriously just how tired he was - but he slipped a little, and I ran away with our first. We'll finish up later when he's feeling up to it.

Two wins versus Kholdstare. He actually had me on the run for a while in the second game, invading my territory and taking a rook. It got very complicated, but I got a couple of passed pawns in the centre and began a slow push. We weren't able to finish because of connection problems, but he decided to concede rather than replay to that point.

Falchion and I played one game, but he had to run off somewhere. Dinner or somesuch. Anyway, I won that game, then I played my two games against Grayfox, both of which I lost. He played well (nearly ran out of time in the second one, but that was partly Yahoo's fault), and I managed to make some pretty big blunders. Here are all three games.

It's an unfair disadvantage to give us zero points on our byes. Our byes should be neutral. I.e., take our points for three rounds, multiply by 4/3 to give us the equivalent value for four rounds. Don't give everyone else four ronds to win points and only three rounds for us.

Here's the deal. I can mull around with giving you guys 4, 6, or 8 bye points. Here's the deal though - I'm not going to give you guys 2 points/game for byes unless everyone else plays every game. The reason why I gave only 4 points was twofold:
1) there's no guarantee that the other teams will play every game.
2) you guys didn't have to draft from the bottom of the barrel.
So let's say we do a plus/minus setup, where you get a point for winning but lose a point for losing. Well, we're tied with +2, and we have more wins. Yes it's unfair because you have less matches and less opportunity to win, but the likelihood is that you WILL win more matches.
Anyways, we'll see what happens...this uneven setup is quite disappointing, and if we had team vs. team battle, it'd be less conspicuous.

I made a mistake on the standings and forgot Uranus' wins vs. amazgr8 - I was actually puzzled about this because the numbers weren't coming out even, but now they are - RB's are a +4, GN a +2, and MK's a -6.
I may change the RB's bye advantage to 6 points instead of 4, since that's about the average score anyways.

I haven't heard anything from Falchion39. I pm'ed him yesterday and still no response. Should I keep waiting? You need to keep trying. That's the only way I'll authorize a report - if you're actually trying to play them.
EDIT: Reports need to be something else - like max or average points vs., which in this case would be 3, since dPaladin has one win vs. Falchion.

We have interest from two more players - a guy named DolittleSmash, and SoveriegnLegend. This brings our number up to 16 if we add everyone we've got right now. Do the math, that could be four teams of four, and I think it will be.
We'll play out the rest of this little tourney - the MetaKnights are fighting for second place, but the gNomes are running for top spot with a LOT of wins necessary.

I decided to take a break from chess, coz i dont feel like I am playing good chess anymore. I will not play, I will not watch. I will not even go to the local chess club. At least next week. So... Bahamut will be the Captain of MetaKnights. And... Good Luck to Everyone :-)

I said this about a week and a half ago.

I'm new to all this but I guess I'll be joining now *shrug*. I guess I'll just let Kamoh sort all that out. I'm still not very well informed and will be pretty busy this week since I not only have 2 college classes I need to attend but also some investments I need to keep an eye on as well. All that said, I'm still looking forward to playing chess in some of my free time.

good openings all around, I'd've continued the Sicilian Defence he had going at move3 by going c3, but he obviously pinned d7 and opened himself up a castle kingside. Where you went g5 (move 7) I'd've personally gone d5 which allows a more centric defence and doesn't open up the outside.
Your move 13 was pretty interesting. It leads to 14.Nd6+ Ke7 15.Be4 Nc6 16.Nf5+ Kf8 17.Nxg7 Kxg7 18.b3 Nf6 19.Bg2 d5 20.Bb2, which wins a knight for a bishop. Better although is Qb6, leading to 14.c4 d5 15.Nc3 Nxd3 16.Qxd3 dxc4 17.Qxc4 Bd7 18.Nf3 Ne7 19.d3, which wins a bishop and a pawn for a knight and a pawn.
The same with his 15. it leads to d5 16.Ng5 Nxd3 17.Qxd3 Ke8 18.Ngf3 Ne7 19.Qe2 Bb7 20.d3, which wins a knight for a bishop. Better is Be4, leading to 15...Nc6 16.Nf5+ Kf8 17.Nxg7 Kxg7 18.Bxc6 dxc6 19.d3 Ne7 20.Nf3 f6 21.Bf4, which wins a bishop and a knight for a bishop and a knight.
He misses another chance at 17. it leads to 17...Bd4+ 18.Rf2 Nf6 19.Nxf6 Bxf2+ 20.Kxf2 Rxh2+ 21.Kg1 h1+ 22.Kf2 Kxf6 23.b3 Ke7 24.Bb2 d6 25.Rxh1 Bxh1, which wins a rook, a bishop, and two knights for a rook and two knights. Better is cxd3, leading to 17. Bd4+ 18.Kg2 f5 19.gxf5 exf5 20.Nf3 fxe4 21.Nxd4 Kf8 22.dxe4 cxd4, which wins a bishop, a knight, and two pawns for two knights and a pawn.
On move 18 I've moved the rook instead of his king to block your check.
And then on your move 18 you could've also played better.
Leads to 19.gxf5 Nf6 20.Re1 Qg8 21.Nf3 Qh7 22.Nh4 exf5 23.Kf1 †xe4 24.Qb3, which wins a knight and a pawn for a pawn. Better is Nf6, leading to 19.Re1 Qg8 20.Nf3 Qh7 21.Kh4 Bxe4+ 22.Rxe4 Qxe4+ 23.Qxe4 Nxe4 24.d3 Nd6, which wins a queen, a rook, and a knight for a queen and a bishop.
Move 20 was his massive downfall. it leads to 20...Bxe4+ 21.Rf3 Nf6 22.Kf1 Ng4 23.Ke1 Rxh2 24.Qf1 Bxf3 25.Qxf3 d5 26.a4, which wins a bishop for a rook and two knights. Much much better is Nf3, leading to 20...Bxe4 21.Re1 Qe8 22.Rxe4+ fxe4 23.Qxe4+ Kf6 24.Qd3 Qe6 25.Nh4 Ne7 26.c3 Rag8 27.cxd4 Rxh4 28.dxc5 bxc5, which wins two bishops and two pawns for a rook, two knights, and a pawn.
Therefore in your next move you win a knight and a pawn for a pawn. GG
now, your move 21 made me sad. Yikes! It leads to 22.d3 Qg8 23.dxe4 fxe4 24.Nxd4 cxd4 25.Bd2 d6 26.Rh1 Rxh1 27.Rxh1 Qxa2, which wins a rook, a knight, and a pawn for a rook and two bishops. Much better is Qe8, leading to 22.Rg1 Qh5 23.Kf1 Qxf3+ 24.Qxf3 Bxf3 25.c3 Bxg1 26.Kxg1 Nf6 27.Kf2 Be4 28.d4, which wins a queen, a rook, and a knight for a queen and a bishop. You had a won game before this error, but it didn't cost you, you did mate him eventually ;)
Move 22 I'd've moved your queen to g1 rather than g5
your move 23 could've been better. Leads to 24.c3 Qe8 25.cxd4 Qh5 26.dxc5 Kf8 27.Rd1 exf3+ 28.Qxf3 Qh2+ 29.Kf1, which wins a knight and a pawn for a bishop and two pawns. Better is Nxe4, leading to 24.Nxd4 cxd4 25.Bd2 Qd6 26.Rh1 Qg6 27.Qd3 Rhg8 28.Be1 Rac8, which wins a knight and a pawn for a bishop.
His next move frees your pawn at e4 from the pin. Leads to 24...cxd4 25.Bd2 Qd5 26.Bb4+ f7 27.Rh1 Qc6 28.c4 a5 29.Rxh8 Rxh8 30.Bd2, which wins a rook and a bishop for a rook and a knight. Better is c3, leading to 24...Qe8 25.cxd4 Qh5 26.dxc5 Kf8 27.Rd1 exf3+ 28.Qxf3 Qh2+ 29.Kf1, which wins a bishop and two pawns for a knight.
Your next queen move evens you out in pieces.
your move 25 could have also been better. It leads to 26.Qxg4 fxg4 27.cxd4 cxd4 28.Re1 e3 29.Bxe3 dxe3 30.Rxe3+ Kf8 31.Re6 Rd8 32.Rf6+ Ke7 33.Rxb6 Rd2+ 34.Kg1, which wins a queen, a bishop, and a pawn for a queen, a knight, and three pawns. Better is Qd3, leading to 26.Qxd3 exd3 27.Be3 Rad8 28.Rh1 Rxh1 29.Rxh1 d2 30.Rd1 Ne4 31.Kf3, which wins a queen and a rook for a queen and a rook.
Move 26! Zomg he isolates own pawn at d4! This Leads to 26...Rh2+ 27.Kg1 Rxe2 28.Be3 Rxe3 29.Kg2 Rh8 30.Rh1 Re2+ 31.Kg1 Bh2 32.Rf1 Nf3+ 33.Rxf3 Rxh1+ 34.Kxh1 exf3 35.dxc5 bxc5, which wins a queen, a rook, a knight, and a pawn for a queen, two rooks, and a bishop. Much better is Qxg4, leading to 26...fxg4 27.cxd4 cxd4 28.Re1 e3 29.Bxe3 dxe3 30.Rxe3+ Kf8 31.Re6 Rd8 32.Rf6+ Ke7 33.Rxb6 Rd2+ 34.Kg1, which wins a queen, a knight, and three pawns for a queen, a bishop, and a pawn. This was white's critical error in the game IMO.
Nice forced skewer on 26!
From move 28 White steps into the forced mate and you have him in the bag! Much better for him is Be3. dxc5 leads to 28...Rh8 29.Rf2 Rxf2 30.Be3 Rfh2 31.Kf1 Kh1+ 32.Bg1 R8h2 33.cxb6 Rf2+ 34.Ke1 Kxg1# and checkmate!
You wanted thorough, you got it.

good openings all around, I'd've continued the Sicilian Defence he had going at move3 by going c3, but he obviously pinned d7 and opened himself up a castle kingside. Where you went g5 (move 7) I'd've personally gone d5 which allows a more centric defence and doesn't open up the outside.
I beg to differ without going through all of the your analysis due to lack of time =/
Move # 7. g5 was perfect. Counter intuitive to the fact that black should be playing to free up his center. But moves like this put enough pressure on the king side as white has to lose tempo in making good use of his bishop on d3??? which made me frown for obvious reason.
Move # 9 . h3? More prudent was Bg7 or d5 or even Qc7.White shouldve taken on h3 immediately here. Followed by Kh2 making using of the h file himself by forcing a rook exchange by Rh1, <if in case> black captures back on h3 with his own rook! The queen on the h file has nice chances indeed. Such ambition from blacks side should be punished immediately.
Why should black play Nc6 on move 15? when Rb8 or Ra7 is better and leaves the active knight on e5?.
check this out! : 15: Be4 Rb8!? 16: d4 cxd4! 17. Bg5+! f6
18. f4! (bishop cannot be captured because of the rook on f1) d3!!? (giving back the pawn) 19. cxd3 Nf7 , i think white can hold with the given pawn structure. I would love to play it further tho. :P No wonder Keegan was so interested in this game.
Just my two cents. I may have to analyze it further if i get time .
