Zelda 'Hyrulian'

Ahh, DJP's take on the Zelda theme. Starts out nice and smooth, but then DJP decides to add some funk. Nothing overly great to praise and nothing horribly bad to bitch about, though I'd love to hear a version without those funky drums.

Boy you crazy! The drums are indeed funk-licious, and I love everything about this mix. Very glitchy and squelchy, the orchestral elements he was talking about make the song for me. out of 10, I'd give it a 7.999999

I think there are a few bits in where the main tune is drowned out by the funk a bit, but it's sort of neat to hear such a serious and proud-sounding tune done with a beat like that behind it. You can picture Link swaggering around a bar with babes hooking themselves to his arms. I'm no expert on these things, but it's a fun remix to listen to, and that's the important thing.

starts off nice and sweet, then gets into the techno beats....very funky! I like it! Well done! :)

As a flute player...I just want to say the jazz flute solo in the middle just KICKS!

I like this... I like it a lot. I may go as far as saying it's arguably the best zelda overworld thing on the net. The (them) techno-ish effects are actually incorporated seemlessly into the song. I guess that would make it unique. I'm only not giving it a perfect score because I'm a jerk. 7/8

im assuming the title refers to link as being one from hyule

not to be picky, but isnt the term hylian

watever im sure djp knows wat hes talking bout

link is hylian, but zelda is from hyrule, so shes hyrulian, hylians were the ancient race that protects the realm from evil or something like that, as ocarina of time explained it

Link and Zelda are both Hylian. To be Hyrulian you just have to be a resident of Hyrule, the place. To be Hylian has to do with ancestry / blood, that sort of thing. Hylians have pointy ears.

Hylians have pointy ears.
Most of the characters have pointy ears (I think? - can't double check now, I'm at work >.<)

Link is a Hylian, Zelda is a Hyrulian

According the the LttP Player's Guide, oth Link and Zelda have Hylian ancestry and are considered Hylian, as well as about ten other people seen in the games.

Oh man, I remember the first time my friend downloaded this off of Napster. Is think it was about 2 years ago. I memorized the words and even tried to convince my friends what he was really saying in the song.

being the zelda expert I am I'll explain things

IN hyrule there are several races eg. hylians, gorons, zoras, gerudos...

there are many more but these are the ones in concern.

just around the time link was born a great was was being fought between gerudos, hylians, gorons and zoras all fighting over who should hold the triforce. The gerudos began to use evil magic to gain an upper hand and because of this the master sword was forged to deflect all evil and it was also given the power to choose its weilder but no-one was couragous enough to use such a sword so it became disused and eventualy used in the seal to hide the triforce in the sacred realm. links family was killed during this was and link was sent down the river and ended his way in kokori village we're he was brought up as an elf.

peace had came over the land after the hylians brought peace and the king of hyrule was crowned to keep peace, but each race still had its own respective leaders.

ooh seems i got a bit carried away there i could tell you loads more

Link has pointy ears. Zelda has pointy ears. Thus, they are both Hylian. End of story.

Anyway, DJP has a great mix here, dunno why some of you guys don't like the funk drums, but it could just be the headphones.

At first listening, this sounds like its going to be soft, then it gets a funky drum beat. Honestly, it took me a few listenings to figure out if I liked it or not and yea, i do. Its diffrent, keeps the original feel of the music whilst expanding on it. The little arabian nights thing that was thrown in at 1:35 sounded good and captured my attention again just as it was starting to fade. Good piece.

Nice....really nice. I particularly like the flute solo in the middle of the piece, and I also like how it starts off kinda soft and calm, then gets a funky beat to it...great job!

I like this tune, the drum work is nice, and the bass sample really drives the tune. The arabic part with the samples was cool, as was the very convincing flute solo. The breakdown is sweet too. Good job.

I first downloaded this mix ... between '00-'02. I can't remember when. I was in college and was doing random searches for VG remixes (whenever it was it was way before I discovered OCR) and came across this mix. I don't remember the name of the file, but I still have it on a couple mix CD's never knowing to whom to attribute this mix until now.

I was going through all the Zelda mixes I've dl'ed and recognized the beat and flute solo and was like, "Holy crap, it's that funky middle-eastern Zelda mix!" The flute reminds me of the middle east. At first I was stoked that it was actually from OCR and I figured it'd be by an unknown. But right there on the playlist it says "djpretzel". The facilitator of this site has stunned me once again.

So why do I like this mix? The first few times I listened I didn't cuz I couldn't get past the intro. I honestly felt it was kind of lame. But then I listened to it all the way through and discovered it to be quite unique. I think the flute solo is what sells it. It just comes out of nowhere, and as I stated before it gives it kind of an ethnic feel. Somehow the story (or Legend I guess) of the Zelda games became that much more real to me in terms of imagining what it'd look like played out in real life.

So I have no technical praise or anything except to say I like it a lot and it has some good memories attached to it.

DJP, please continue to rock on.

I didn't like this song the first time I listened to it. I do like the jazzy flute solo in the middle, but the excess beeping in the background is about to drive me nuts. I like it when it mellows out after the solo, but then it goes right back to the beginning.

Okay.... The rest of the song, yeah, it's good, but straight-up pales in comparison to the flute solo, and I haven't heard much past 2:45 'cuz I keep getting bored and jumping back to the flute solo. Hey, DJP, I don't suppose you have a nifty little PDF of the sheet music for that sitting around, do you? ^_^ I'm a flutist and I'd love to be able to play that. So yeah. If you're reading this.... *jumps back to flute solo AGAIN* DOWNLOAD IT NOW! It's badass, and if DJP gets me the sheet music, I will finally be able to prove to the band that flute does indeed kick more ass than tuba. I'll stop typing now, it's distracting me from that AWESOME flute solo.

I love this song...but for some reason I got its name confused with the stupid singing one, called town mix.....again, I don't know why......but ya, great song and everything. the flute solo is great too. I personally hate it when I hear too much techno, so I can't repeat this song too much. I much rather hear all of my favorites then one of them over and over again....

^ Ditto. The flute solo was what made me love this remix, so creative, and it takes the already amazing tamber of the remix to an even more exciting level. Perfect for dancing! Need I say more?!

Yes I'll have to agree with all of you. The Flute solo kicks. At least it kicks a lot more than my moped does. I just had to boost up the volume to the max. This song rocks.

Some pretty cool concepts, and I dig the beat, but I don't feel they always gelled, mainly due to a lack of bass in a lot of frequencies. Some bass synth comes in at some point, but it sounds like it needs more. Flute solo is nice stuff. Samples sound a bit dated, but nothing kills it. A decent mix. :-)

Reminds of the Kill Bill movies. Another make of this song devoted entirely to that approach would be pretty sweet.

0:00 the off-beat chorus ahhs are perfect here.
0:26 while this could have been disastrous, the distorted drums work very well
0:48 the jungle elements didn't work quite as well here
1:34 nice change in chords
1:45 possibly the best solo section of any of djp's mixes
2:19 that's one mean tuned kick
3:22 unexpected but it works

Uh.....hmm...I normally love jungle and techno, so putting them together seems to be perfect to my ears. However, the beeping parts wasn't my cup of tea. The Middle Eastern sounding bits are great and when the beeping is overtaken by the other instruments, it's excellent. The arrangement was amazing though, and I'm sure that once I get used to the beeps of it, I'll completely love it. Sweet ReMix.
