The People's Remix Competition 86
PRCv4-8
Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) PRC85 had one of the cutest source tunes I have seen in a while via a song from Little Samson, and in the end came out a horrific - in a good way - industrial mix from newcomer Another Soundscape, complete with vocals from Kholdstare, take the first place prize.
For this week's PRC, he's picked a fun source for us to mess around with. I see it to be really different to experiment with than most things, but luckily for us, it's a song from a popular game within the RPG community. Are you ready to seal some Mana Seeds?
http://bev.wooff.googlepages.com/prc86.gif
I chose this song because when I started playing Secret of Mana again a while back it struck me how good this tune is even though it's so short. Also I'm interested in hearing what the remixers can do with the percussion and drums for this ReMix. I've just recently opened my eyes to drums and what you can do with it so I look forward to many interesting ReMixes. Good luck everyone!"

I hope this will encourage Liontamer to play the game for longer than 20 minutes (quoted from VG Frequency 84). But enough thoughts about things that might not happen - I say we get cracking on and seeing what kind of results would come out of this.
GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, it's not like it's important to me but it was a nice laugh..
I really hope people can ReMix a tune even though it's 6 seconds of melody and mainly bad percussion (I've already done half a mix for fun just to prove you can).
Prove you're a great remixer! I mean come on, creativity people! :P
Right, I'll edit them out. Sorry about the mistakes. :o If anything I would blame a cold I caught lately, but not to worry.

Wicked source, landscape.
I'm thinking of doing 2 entries for this one. I mea, I have a pretty good idea in mind that would make a solid mix. But I want to go all-out on an insane mix so as not to disappoint avaris. xD
I'm going to enjoy this one.

I'm new to the contest, so don't flame me. :) Nonetheless, I just wanted to join in on the fun because I realized how I didn't have time to make a song for any of the competitions at The Shizz and OverLooked ReMiX, so I come here. Never playing Secret of Mana before, I find making this remix to be interesting. Making a song of nothing but "black keys" was really neat and, although it is quite repetitive, I hope you all enjoy listening to this whilst doing homework or just casually when not judging it. Enjoy.

Unsuprisingly to me; I'm out again. :(
There's two prep guys in my kitchen. We lose 1 and I suddenly work 9 hours every day this week on top of my scheduled work.
At least the paycheck will be good.
What can we say? Money makes the world go round :D
We have just over 24 hours left to get entries in. If you have anything, get cracking on it! It's interesting that we have four and a bonus by this stage, so I congratulate the peeps that came through so far.
I've got an entry coming; I just need to layer my acoustic guitar into the mix.

I better get cracking then.
Expect an entry from me. You might even get it before the dealine if you're lucky this week. :D
I've done my song too. Just need to title it and put it on the webspace. Before anyone asks when they hear it, the guitar parts didn't work so I layered down a harpsichord instead.
Providing I'll find time tonight, that's what I'll be doing so that I don't face strain tomorrow other than getting the RAR together. With that said, get cracking - there's only 13 hours left! **Ba-dump. Ba-dump.**

I suppose we'll wait for you. But we know we faced problems in the past PRCs waiting for you to submit your entry. I don't want to sound like Judge Rexy here, but something needs to be done about that.

So sorry Rexy, this will never happen again (click here for link) (http://www.martin2k.co.uk/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=722)
Sorry for the shortness in length. I've barely had any time this week to work on it. Still... quality over quantity and all that. :D
Okay, I got it. I'll go on to host it on the webspace and get the compo started promptly.

Wow, you guys are really quiet voters. :p
There's 10 hours and 30 minutes remaining if you need to cast your vote and/or fix anything. What can I say? Hop to it.
Also, someone make me a mod so I can actually edit these stupid topic titles. I don't even know who did the routine for me in PRC85, but to be frank, this time without the power to edit the actual topic title is starting to get a little bit annoying.

Coincidentally, when voted, I marked Another Soundscape's entry as "illegible" instead as "ineligible". My only excuse is that it was late and I was tired. Your entry was quite legible, AS!

Right, it's now time to cast the results. As I said, I can't believe how quiet some of you were!
Total number of mixes - 6
Total number of votes - 9 (you guys are still pathetic @.@)
Highest possible score - 54
Anorak finished in last place with 19 points.
xela made his way to fifth place with 22 points.
Nario achieved a surprising fourth place finish with 29 points.
avaris followed on by reaching third place with 34 points.
Villainelle started her (is it a her?) time in the PRC with a second place finish, obtaining 44 points.
And the winner of PRC86 is Rexy with 46 points!
Great, once again I'm going to be the one picking a source tune. No worries, I've got ideas circulating. I'll make sure to make PRC87 a good one.
Also, you can all slap me on the back for the whole ORC announcement from the last PRC. TO told me it would start up again, but I haven't heard much back yet. So yes, please cut some slack. o_O
Regardless, I hope to see you all again for PRC87. Be here by Friday at Noon board time.

Nice compo everyone!
Xela I actually really really liked your remix. :) I'd take the quality over quantity any day.
All around their were some cool ideas in each remix, albeit this being a wicked hard source tune to work with. Kudos to AS for the best/worst song title depending on your views.
Wish we woulda had more votes since the battle for first yet again, could be changed with one vote.

Nice Work Rexy. Also nice work for Villainelle for a nice entrance. Good to see new faces around, doing a great job.
One thing I've noticed is how close the first place votes count has been, which speaks for the quality. I hope to be able to join the next competition.
I see that those are the words coming out from either a guy who was there during the judgment of the source tune, or a guy who drank Caribbean rum with their lunch today. Which is it, you'll find out on Friday :p

I just wanted to say that my song was written in 4/4, unlike the 3/4 time signature that Dancing Animals originally had. The trick was to use a 3/8, 3/8, & 1/4 rhythm as opposed to 1/3, 1/3, & 1/3. For example:
XOOXOOXOOXOOXOOXOOXOOXOO <- Original rhythm (3/4)
XOOXOOXOXOOXOOXOXOOXOOXO <- Remix rhythm (4/4)
Note: "X" indicates where a note would take place.
Nonetheless, thanks to those who voted for me. :) It was very interesting making a song with nothing but black keys, that, and it was neat being able to make this in three horus (my shortest amount of time to make a "good" remix, like, ever. :p).

This was really fun, glad to be a part of it. Congrats to everyone for remixing that crazy source material, and Rexy for her well-deserved win. ;) (And yes, I'm a chick. :P)
It was strangely relaxing and stress-relieving to take this sort of semi-ridiculous source tune and just try to mess with it for fun. Looking forward to the next PRC. Kudos all!
