The 360 HD DVD player is 50 bucks at best buy and circuit city, and the 5 free HD DVD movie deal is good till tomorrow. Of course HD DVD is dead, but sites like amazon and deepdiscount.com have movies for like 9 to 12 bucks. I got my player tonight and getting some good movies with free shipping :D

So, I've sold my soul to Microsoft. I guess I didn't want to miss Oblivion and Orange Box and whatnot.
Now I ask you, what's your opinion on the following games (games I'm considering to buy):

Project Sylpheed - I've heard both good and bad. Too advanced and hard?
Lost Odyssey - I've mostly heard bad stuff actually. Huge-ass loading times, bad characters except the lead, boring story and well no fun. Still I think most people are just being asses. What do YOU think?
TimeShift - this game intrigues me. Is it as fun as it sounds to mess around with time and shoot stuff?
Enchanted Arms - a release title for PS3 that got ported to 360 and still looks like a mediocre RPG? yesplz.

Am I forgetting something? Feel free to give me tips about budget titles for 360 that are still really fun. Every title I mentioned except Lost Odyssey is pretty cheap where I live anyway..

1. Played the demo on Xbox Live, thought it was a little fun, but don't know if I'd spend the green for it.

2. Whatever you've read about Lost Odyssey, and I'm sure I read the same thing before as well, was extremely misleading. This game is BOSS.

3. Haven't played it, although my best friend from back home(a huge FPS gamer mind you) said it pretty much sucks balls, so I trust his judgment.

4. This one is an unknown to me. From what I understand, there have been pretty mixed reviews, although most of them border on the negative end. I haven't played the game, but it hasn't really interested me as much.

My games list is as follows:

Mass Effect
Lost Odyssey
Gears of War
Halo 3
DOA4
DOAX2
Guitar Hero(any of 'em)
Rock Band(better than GH apparently)
Call of Duty 4
Beautiful Katamari
Ace Combat 6
DDRU2
TES IV: Oblivion GoTY Edition
Blue Dragon(maybe)
The Orange Box
Eternal Sonata
Devil May Cry 4

Coming Soon:
Halo Wars
Gears of War 2
Ninja Gaiden 2
Resident Evil 5
Tales of Vesperia
Infinite Undiscovery
Last Remnant(not sure about this one)
Soul Calibur 4
Street Fighter 4

Then there are all the Live Arcade games like Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, Metal Slug 3, that new Bionic Commando remake, among others.

Trust me, there is much to be excited about.

-Loads of sweet info-

Project Sylpheed is like $25 at my local store and I think I'll enjoy it. Get back to you when I've played it through ;)

I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed Lost Odyssey. I'm just hoping for a price drop in a couple of month because of the poor reviews.. we'll see.

I'm looking for the Limited Edtition Mass Effect, I'm just that much of a whore, but I'm def getting it. The Orange Box is still major money but the price has started to drop in some places so I'm getting it when I get paid I guess. Also I need Shivering Isles. :3

Since I've yet to get a HDD (got the 360 Core for $160, that's why I bought it) but then I'm getting Rez HD, Super Puzzle Fighters and loads of other goodies.

Games I've got already (mind you I got the 360 2 weeks ago):

Oblivion (Collector's Edition)
Viva Piñata (Limited Edition)
BioShock (The metal case one, not with big daddy figure and whatnot)
Burnout REvenge (Disc Only, got it for $3 from where I work)
Eternal Sonata

DOAX2

LOL

Also:
For anyone who is new to Xbox live; there are three free arcade games.

Hexic HD (Should have come preloaded to your xbox)
Very basic puzzle game. Worth playing.

Aegis Wing
It's a game along the lines of raiden, but with the added bonus of being 4 player online co-op. This one is pretty damn fun.

Yaris
Toyota viral marketing. Worth it? You decide (I have yet to play it)

EDIT: This game is total trash in one player, but the multiplayer verses is really fun. Worth the price of free.

Undertow WAS free. But too late now, and that game is not worth 800 points. ><;

Project Sylpheed - I've heard both good and bad. Too advanced and hard?

If by too advanced and too hard you mean too awesome, then yes. It's a very nicely put together space combat flight game. The controls take some getting used to, but if you've ever played video games before, you should come to terms with them in less than an hour. It's got a great soundtrack, awesome CG cutscenes, and some very beautiful settings. Game was one of my top 5 favorite 360 games from last year. So great.

Lost Odyssey - I've mostly heard bad stuff actually. Huge-ass loading times, bad characters except the lead, boring story and well no fun. Still I think most people are just being asses. What do YOU think?

Who are these heathens? Lost Odyssey is probably the most finely-tuned old school JRPG I've ever played. It's production values harken back to the PS1 era Final Fantasies. It's got awesome music and a great story. Must buy if you like RPGs at all.

TimeShift - this game intrigues me. Is it as fun as it sounds to mess around with time and shoot stuff?

It is, but the rest of the game is meh. Not bad per se, ust kind of bland.

Enchanted Arms - a release title for PS3 that got ported to 360 and still looks like a mediocre RPG? yesplz.

No way in hell should you be buying this before Lost Odyssey or Mass Effect.

If you can find Overlord, you should give that a try (download the demo if you can). It's like some weird mix between Fable and Pikmin. I also suggest Earth Defense Force 2017, and I know you can find that cheap. Game is fun in its more pure, raw form. One of my beloved 360 games.

All 360 models come with HD cables (component). The PS3 does not.

I meant HDMI cables not component.. the Pro definitely doesn't come with those.

Crackdown is definitely REALLY fun. Some people say it's too easy, but honestly I've died dozens of times. It's pretty challenging even at the lowest difficulty level (where I'm at) - and most of my skills are max or near max!

But a lot of Xbox 360 games don't support 1080p, and unless you have a monstrous TV, then is the minute difference in picture quality really worth mentioning?

Another Soundscape, consider returning Eternal Sonata (assuming you still can). While the game is quite pretty and has a nice soundtrack, that's all it has going for it. The battle system gets extremely repetitive and lacks any sort of challenge, the game is linear to a fault, and the plot degenerates into a hopeless mess that is downright insulting in its lack of quality.

I was really pleased with The Orange Box, though the only game I've played on it is Portal.

Btw, how are you liking Eternal Sonata?

As for the reasons to get an HDMI cable, I think it follows the same logic as to why someone would get component cables for the Wii even if they don't have a tv that supports progressive scan - it still gives you a slightly clearer signal. For me, I mainly got the 360 HDMI cable because I would have otherwise gotten an optical cable for the audio...this way less cables, same effect.

To be fair the loading times are somewhat annoying, but the game more than makes up for that. I'm currently on the third disc just after zomg Gongora attacks everyone at once The game still has not felt old at all to me so far, which is an amazing feat for a JRPG. The music is surprisingly consistently good, and the dialogue is very well done, another rarity for a JRPG. This really is a game you shouldn't miss people.

I'm not advocating it... I was responding to the person who said this:

What I'm wondering is, are there any credible rumors of another price drop on the 360 anytime soon? I'd really like to get an elite, because I really am on the HD bandwagon and want the benefits of HDMI, like with my PS3.

I think you would enjoy Blue Dragon. I finally beat Eternal Sonata a few weeks ago. Such an amazing game but i had a problem with the japanese language track during the ending. There's a part that's voiced in Japanese ( a flashback from something earlier in the game with polka I think) but it isn't subtitled for some stupid reason, kind of took me out of the experience. Eternal Sonata has messed up achievements too, i have like 17/22 but only have like 300 points. Also the New Game+ thing is BS, you keep nothing at all.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Unless your TV and 360 are hooked together across different rooms of the house, 1080p through component or HDMI is virtually indistinguishable., especially if your TV isn't larger than 50 inches.

Yes, Lost Odyssey is beyond boss, and hopefully I'll be done with it by the end of the day after I get home from work so I can proceed to my next acquisition, Project Sylpheed.

Played the first mission and I thought it was faptastic, although I guess I'm too used to the controls for Ace Combat 6. But hey, any game that lets me shoot off an insane amount of missiles ala Macross is a sweet ride to me. It also reminds me of Gundam SEED, which I also loved.

But alas, playing games while I'm drowsy around midnight isn't the best time to truly enjoy them, therefore I shall be back with better impressions. Rest assured however, the current verdict is that the game is excellent.

My best friend was sitting next to me at the time too and the expression on his face was, "Are you guys... is that even allowed? Isn't there some societal rule where you have to plan these things? Or something?" then the expression was "Fuck it, that's awesome."

Go with the pro for the HDD if you can. Unless you think you'll be downloading lots of movies or buying lots of Xbox Originals games from the XBL marketplace, 20 GB should be enough for gaming. I usually hover somewhere between 11 and 7 GB available at any time depending on how many demos I have downloaded.

It's also always cheaper to buy the Pro than to buy the Arcade and buy a separate HDD.

Funny story. Back when N64 was the shit, my dad went on westpack. He and his shipmates pretty much perfected the art of Mario Kart 64, mastering the short cuts and shit. When he came back and wanted to play with my friends and I we were like "k..." and he fucking owned us in Wario stadium. Pretty much we were speechless. He also taught us how to powerslide.

Xbox hard drives are ridiculously expensive. The tard pack AKA the Arcade is pretty shitty. If you're even semi serious about gaming I would say pickup the pro (or premium whatever its called). Unless you're going to download a shit ton of HD movies off the marketplace or put your mp3 collection on the HDD then i would say stick with the pro instead of Elite. I've had a pro since launch and it works pretty well for me, At any given time i have about a gig free. and I've got some music and a lot of DLC on it. Pro systems also have HDMI ports now. But so do the arcade ones (possibly?)

Ok so I've been playing more of project Sylpheed.

This game is BOSS.

Seriously, if only just for the level of control you have over your Delta Saber, which beats the hell of Ace Combat 6(another awesome game). Just keep in mind that your first objective should be to hit the tutorial. It might seem boring at first, but once you see the amount of shit you can actually do, you start loving it.

The missions are pretty damned challenging, and there are multiple side objectives that you can accomplish in addition to whatever main objectives that will increase your overall mission score, which in turn is converted into points with which you can research different types of weapons and such for your fighter, and trust me, you want these upgrades. There's just something awesome about having a missile launcher that can fire off somewhere around 20 missiles at a squadron of enemy fighters that are headed right for you.

Graphically, it's not anything particularly amazing to write home about, but the game DOES have some pretty visuals and with all the shit going on at once, you really feel like you're in the middle of an awesome battle. I mean you're flying around and between multiple boss looking carriers and other cap. ships, not to mention the sheer amount of enemy fighters. One of the cool things that turn a lot of people off where the streaks of colors that trail after fighters making it look like "confetti". I actually think it's cool, since it reminds me of another favorite game of mine, Homeworld. I believe that I DID notice some slowdown on occasion, but nothing that would impede my game.

When it comes to games like this, a good narrative isn't always on the top of my list of priorities, but it just so happens that the story of the game(thus far) has actually helped me to enjoy the game even more. There are some pretty cool cut scenes thrown in that give some decent plot, and overall it's just something great.

I got the game for $30 bucks. For that price, it was definitely worth it to me, and they even added 5 or so(I think) levels via Xbox live in the latest update for the game. If you're into flight games and have some extra cash burning in your wallet looking for a new game, grab this one.

I can't agree more. Currently on Mission 7 (I think, the one with the mines) and it's bitch hard on normal sometimes. Then you come up with a tactic, learn to fly just a bit better or choose the right weapon and it's a breeze. This is really a game that's challenging and fun to master.

Also, they added 6 new levels. They're all point or Time Trial missions and for these 6 they added leaderboards on XBL, something that was horribly absent from the game.

but man, this game has this "just one more time" feeling even though the missions are like 30minutes each :3 and getting each medal is hard work, getting sub objectives is even harder.

So worth my $24. So incredibly worth my $24.

It makes me smile seeing all the Sylpheed love. I felt like I was the only one who bought it when it came out LAST SUMMER, and nobody else was raving about it besides me.

It's a great game.

Also, once you beat the game, you can go back and replay it with all of your upgraded weapons unlocked. This is how you can achieve some of the tough bonus objectives on the early levels and get medals for those missions (which unlocks achievements).

I didn't take kindly to Sylpheed's demo. For a demo, it seemed way too complex. I'm glad to hear that it's actually a bit like Gundam Seed too. I did love the space battle aspect in that sense. But hearing that it is down to $30 now, I think I'll probably buy it soon. Only after I buy a PSP, PS3 and a dozen 360 and Wii games...

The demo doesn't do a good job because it tosses you into a mission without context or help. The full game does a much better job of acclimating you to the controls and bringing you up to speed slowly.

Malaki-LEGEND.sys

Agreed. The demo was piss poor in the sense that you really had no idea what the hell was really going on, and that's the problem with complex games like that having demos that throw you into the middle of stuff without really easing you into it first. I mean, imagine if they made a demo for Lost Odyssey. As awesome as a game as it is, I probably would have been turned off by playing a demo that puts me midway through the game.

I can understand how a game like Dynasty Warriors or something could have a demo, but not a game like Sylpheed.

So wait...you own a 360 & a PS3 right now?

And yup, Lost Odyssey is great - on the fourth disc in a week.

Yeah, me and my brother (we've gone halfers on each) have all three consoles now.

About Lost Odyssey, it's been quite some time since I've been infatuated with a game like Lost Odyssey to the point where I want to play it as much as I have. I haven't been this addicted to an RPG since I last played one from the SNES or PS One. Probably because it recalls so many of the rules that made those eras of games fun and addictive while practically perfecting the gameplay (between the battle front end and the stuff in the back like skill links and rings, it's like Swiss clock work.) It's beautiful and has a solid next-gen polish, although with some blemishes. Not to mention the emotional soundtrack which fits the game better than a glove. And some of the boss battles are actually challenging enough to die at least once. I'm impressed.

Yeah, I've clocked well over 50 hours (probably over 60, haven't checked in a while) on the game so far - I'm doing the sidequest stuff right now on the last disc, and it has just been so fun. I'm a bit annoyed though that I missed some spells and I'm not sure where to find them...I might have to go trudge through some dungeons again just to see what I've missed. At least as far as I can tell, the game didn't pull a bullshit Zodiac Spear ala FF12, and is perfectly reasonable as far as sidequesting is concerned, a novel concept in the age of the idiotic must-have-a-player's-guide RPGs.

It may be too early to make such a claim, but so far I think that Lost Odyssey is up there as one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

I'm one of the rare ones on here who despises FF12 completely. The amount of gold needed for purchasing stuff got out of hand towards the second half of the game, and the traveling was too tedious for me. Not to mention that without a players guide, you likely won't get the best weapon in the game & very likely will struggle throughout the game in a negative way.

I liked it a lot, but I actually think FFXII may have been more overrated than FF7 now.

I had the opposite problem since I had the battle down pat for 95% of the game even to the final secret bosses which only required the cheap zoning/rezoning trick. Also the gold seemed to be way too easy to obtain if you know which items to sell and all the skills were watered down into uselessness (seriously, if you use spells instead of the '5 attacks per second' buffs, you are being silly). And as for the plot, FFXII really had one of the thinnest ones I can remember, even if it was stylistically beautiful.

I doubt Sony is really dedicated to bringing back their older titles - they claimed that they were going to do so on the PS3, but we really haven't seen much come from their camp through the PSN. It really is against their interests to do so since they are more centered in letting the current gen stuff stay in the limelight.

And Lost Odyssey stuff! [spoiler]So, I finished the Temple of Enlightenment sidequest after a grueling 3 or 4 hours in there! I missed one treasure chest near the beginning, but I'm not terribly concerned since the troubling part was when you had to get the two jewels to put into the altar, and figuring out everything. I'm pretty confident I got all of the treasures there, so the beginning section should be a cinch in comparison.

I also got all of the spells finally, and I'm mostly through with the Backyard as well, although I stopped after getting stuck trying to figure out how to kill the dog for the secret condition in the second super heavy battle - that dog basically autokills you in one hit, and even with Persistence, puts you at 1 hp. The lack of spells, items, and skills allowed for that one is brutal too.[/spoilers]

Also, I'm starting to save up money for an HD set(I have about 250 thus far), and I was wondering if anyone knew the differences between brands, and what TVs can do 1080p over component. I'm fine with 720p, but 1080p is definitely the thing right now, and this TV might as well be an investment.

Are you planning to go LCD or plasma? Probably the highest-recommended brand for LCD as far as I'm concerned is Sharp (Aquos series), but Samsung and Sony are good as well. For plasma, Pioneer Kuro series are the best (pretty much the best HDTV you get get right now, but more expensive), and Panasonic is the next best thing.

Depends on whether you're going to be doing a lot of watching in a well-lit room most often, your budget, the size of screen you want, or if you're a bit more of a video-phile as to which way you should lean. If you're going to do something 50" or less and are not planning to use it for hooking a computer up to it, just go with 720p. Start answering these questions, and it'll make it easier to narrow down.

For my personal uses, I got a 42" 720p Panasonic plasma, which I would highly recommend. I don't have a ton of time to spend in from the tv these days, but when I do I tend to watch in the dark or with low lighting, and really needed something with a high contrast ratio (so LCD was out). I also don't plan to use it as a computer monitor, so for my purposes I couldn't justify the difference in price when it came to 1080p tvs (especially because the 1080p plasmas I was looking at tended to have a lower contrast ratio than their 720p counterparts).

I don't know what brands offhand can input 1080p via components, but I understand that's increasingly rare these days.

Haha, good plan.

So, this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101105) is the tv my brother and I got my parents for Christmas. 32" Sharp lcd, 720p. Like it says on the site, contrast ratio is 1200:1 (btw, I'd recommend ignoring the dynamic contrast ratio for any of these), which is pretty stanard for LCD tvs. I thought it was a really nice display, though one drawback for future use if you don't plan to use a receiver with it is there are only 2 HDMI slots.(EDIT: I think we got it for about 700 in December) Here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101106) is a link to the 37" version of it. Then, a friend has the 32" version of this (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11245241&search=sharp&Mo=5&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043%204001374&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&cat=2341&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=sharp&Ntk=Text_Search&Ntt=sharp&No=2&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1#) tv, and really likes it (he also uses it as a computer monitor, hence the 1080p...works exceptionally well for that btw). According to what they say about this one on the website, it's also able to input 1080p through the components.

I got my tv and our parents' tv at Costco, just because they have the best return policy and they extend the manufacturer warranty to 2 years automatically. My friend who has the 32" 1080p Sharp and another friend who got a couple HDTVs recently both got theirs at Best Buy and bought their extended warranty thing. Personally, I'd recommend buying at one of those two places for that reason (my personal preference is Costco), instead of going to a place that has better prices but may not have the coverage for it.

EDIT2: Hope that helps btw. Good luck, man.

The Heroic Map pack will become free after roughly four months. I wonder if this coincides with Call of Duty 4 outselling Halo 3 now. So with each pack, it's between $5 to $10 for each map pack. I think most of the maps sounds good (including Chinatown for CoD4), but it comes at a price.

I think that's unnecessarily harsh. I personally thought it was one of the best I've played in a while (at least since Persona 3 and Suikoden 5).

There's also this love it or hate it quality because of all the novel-reading moments but I think it lent it a unique flair. Also its sentimental story that edges on both being innovative and somewhat cliche. Apparently some people just refuse to give it a fair shake, and that's fine. I just wouldn't take their word for it on how bad it is if they don't even play it.

Yeah If you have Media Center or Media Player 11 and a router it should work just fine. On the Media Tab of the dashboard, select the type of media you want to stream, and then select "computer" You will most likely be needing to running MC at the time to get it to work properly (I have never connected through MC, so I wouldn't know.). Of course, it DID take a good few years before I'd come to the point of buying a PSP, and the PS3 just came out... >.>;

That being said, there's plenty more than just FPSes on the 360, you want RPGs? Right now SE is so backlogged with projects like the THREE Kingdom Hearts games they're making now(Birth By Sleep for PSP, 3651/2 Days for DS, and a cellphone one), Fabula Nova Crysalis(FFXIII, Versus XIII and Agito), Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Star Ocean 2 and the U.S. translation for SO1(no official word, I'm hoping), Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Star Ocean 4, and the U.S. translation for FFIV DS(it's coming sometime in June or July apparently), and I guess a bunch of Dragon Quest games just to name a few.

But trust me, Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming, they just haven't gotten to it yet. :P

Of course there might be official word on it somewhere. I just haven't found it yet.

I don't doubt it's coming, but I don't think it's sure-fire PS3 (especially given suprising announcements like Dragon Quest IX for DS). There's just no predicting what system(s) it'll be on at this point.

800 points for Ikaruga is a highway robbery. $10 for such an ultimate version of the game. I'm so glad I didn't spend $50 for the Gamecube/Dreamcast versions.

How is it even possible to 'grind CoD4' anyway? There's so many ways to play and the ebbs and flow in the game is unmatched as far as FPS games go (well, maybe except for Battlefield or Unreal Tournament or something).

I played it at least for 50+ hours online time and it still feels very fresh. Then again, I never resort to one tactic ever. Onetime I'll camp and snipe, then next, run around with a heavy gun + extra armor, or next time I'll go on suicide bombing runs all the time. Then there's the fact that most maps feature at least four or five routes to fight in. There's so much more variety to it than any other FPS game I ever played. Those naturally averse to online FPS play won't understand that of course.

Halo 3 used to be fun, then the community surrounding it figured out how to cheat and I had to stop playing.

I think Halo is still pretty fun but it is pretty basic in how people manipulate the respawns by moving to strategic parts of the map. To me, that's not cheating. It's just the way people figured out how the game works. It's very archetypal of FPS games but I still think it's done really well. I remember playing Goldeneye for long hours at a time if I'm playing with other people and yet objectively, Halo has way more options going for it. Also, special stipulation matches in Halo is just amazing if you can arrange it (basically like Smash Brothers. Special custom rules just makes Halo almost unbeatable in terms of all the wacky stuff you can do. It's like f'n Portal but with people manipulating the game unnaturally). I don't think people understand how fun it can be without being burnt by all the Halo junkies who slaughter people online all the time. People can bash Halo at the surface all they want, but I know they, for the most part, haven't bothered to delve into it on the first place.

With some luck, I've managed to beat the first two levels of Ikaruga's Hard Mode without dying -- and without firing a shot. I'm hoping to finish the rest of them that way also, but the remaining three levels are really damn difficult with the gun, let alone without.

Also, for those curious about how I did level 2 -- you can fit exactly between the white, black, and red "boxes" as long as you don't shift horizontally while you're inside them. It makes for a much safer path that way!

It has a ranking system right? Well there you go, everyone needs to grind their rank up.

Except the fun isn't in grinding your rank up (not that that's even that hard to do, just play some headquarters). In fact, most of the stuff I use I either didn't unlock or didn't take long to unlock. I'm level 41 now and used the MP5 up until I unlocked the P90. Hell, I even use the red dot scope as my only add-on, and the only perks I use are claymores (which I can do without), stopping power, and the improved aiming. And I've been using those for most of the game. Some of the others I use occasionally for fun, but those are my bread and butter.

Honestly, I've rarely seen so much variety in a game without drastically changing the maps and objectives. Free-for-all and ground war are always pretty frantic. Headquarters is a constant battle to try and cap and hold the headquarters, and stuff like hardcore search and destroy and cage match are some of the most tense, edge of your seat, multiplayer gaming I've ever experienced. The basic game never changes, but how you approach it, even level by level, is rarely the same. There are few games with an online experience that's fun enough to warrant me spending even 5 hours with it, but I'm over 20 hours into this one. It just doesn't get old for me.

Hmm. Never happened to me or I was unaware of it the few times it might have happened. I don't really care about the ranks so maybe that has something to do with it. To me it's social or bust. The ranked servers have too much angst with the kill ratio. As for the fanbase, I typically think most huge guildies and certain segment of a fanbase tends to be a bunch of pigs anyway. That doesn't really exclude the Nintendo console crowd or the PC crowd to me.

It has a ranking system right? Well there you go, everyone needs to grind their rank up.

Yes, but it takes such a short time to level up whatever you want in the game, I don't really see it too much as a 'grinding' than just going for the goal and points. Besides, the rewards aren't anything special. A gold/digital painted weapon isn't really a big deal unless you're really striving for it. Also, unless you're some sort of a master gamer, it's really hard to find one niche and stick with it since the after-kill camera shows how you kill someone to the enemy. So I think the parity is just really good in CoD4, grind or no grind. A fresh faced newbie stands a real chance competitively.

For your high ping issues, have you tried servers that are within your current area of residence..? I've tried going to far eastern servers and had 350 s my ping more often than not. Just stuck with the eastern coast of the US and always get a 40 ping...

For some reason Xbox Live gets a better connection than my actual internet connection. For that I blame my ISP but Aim Botting runs rampant on the servers that I don't get kicked from for having the super high ping that I do. For some reason the Xbox Live has a better connection sometimes.

Oh sure, you'll still blow up cop cars, run down innocent civilians, bang hookers, assist drug dealers and lowlifes and do many, many other bad deeds, but at a cost to main character Niko Bellic's very soul. GTA IV gives us characters and a world with a level of depth previously unseen in gaming and elevates its story from a mere shoot-em-up to an Oscar-caliber drama. Every facet of Rockstar's new masterpiece is worthy of applause. Without question, Grand Theft Auto IV is the best game since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The camera is a bit awkward, considering it lets you pivot with the right stick, but it's always trying to get behind the direction you're moving in regardless. So that's kind of weird.

Also some graphical hiccups, like issues with clipping, textures visibly loading in, and pop-in.

And does anyone else hate driving in this game? The man can eat a burger to heal all his wounds, but can't take a corner to save his life. I wouldn't mind this as much if I didn't have to chase people in cars ~_~...

Having said all that, it's still pretty damn good, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone except GTA anti-fanboys.

I was expecting a GTA4 thread to pop up at some point. I guess that kind of treatment is reserved for Wii games.

Anyway, just played some online with my brother and it's a blast. Having an open city in single player is great, but sharing it with friends is a thousand times better. There's a certain kind of satisfaction that comes with plunging a helicopter straight into another player's car and then watching everything erupt into a gasoline-powered inferno that only GTA4 can achieve. All of the modes I've played so far have been a lot of fun, especially the coop ones.

The only bad thing about the game is that it seems to have regressed a bit as far as the comedy goes (what happened to the constant laughs from San Andreas?) and the gameplay is still a tad bit inferior to Saints Row's.

The multiplayer is fun as long as people know what the hell they're doing, which they don't most of the time.

i just buy a lot of games when they come out. assassin's creed (with the tin and everything), after buying, playing, and selling it back, cost me a total of eight dollars. bioshock: seven. gtaiv: i actually earned three dollars because of rebates and credit from aforementioned used games. h3 cost me eleven dollars for the pack with the nice tin.

So, with the Stimulus check, I picked up a 360 Pro. Grabbed Crackdown, DMC4, and Project Sylpheed with it.

Sylpheed was traded in for Senko no Ronde.

I was very amazed at how smooth it was to stream stuff from my computer to the 360, but one thing bothers me. I'm trying to stream Whose Line episodes to it..and over 3/4ths of them stutter like mad, making them unwatchable. The audio is fine, it's just the video. What the hell's going on?

What the fuck
I gave it a whirl and found that while I liked the combat, the roughly 70 million different controls you need to use to win made it somewhat unfun. And then about seventeen people told me that the Ace Combat series offered the same type of combat of Sylpheed, but better and less complicated. So I went and got rid of it. They had no copies of Ace Combat in, so I grabbed Senko no Ronde for $5 for some shootan fun.

Could be a janky video file that is messing up. Didja download them in a torrent?
Yes. Some of them work, but the vast majority of them don't. None of them have any problems running on my computer, so I'm almost positive it's something on the Xbox.

I just seen that video of Gears 2 and I've got to say, it looks really impressive. I haven't even got a 360, but knowing my experience when I was round at a friend of mine's: the campaign will probably suck and the online will be the main highlight. That is, until a new Halo or Call of Duty gets released.

Yeah you have to use avi and wmv. If it plays naturally in Media Player 11 than it should work fine when you stream it to your Xbox.

My experience with Gears of War was actually the opposite. I did splitscreen co-op with a friend (multiple times) and it was a blast, but we both felt it didn't really translate well to online multiplayer.

But yeah, definitely looking forward to Gears 2.

Most games come with some form of XBLGold trial. Hell, I know a few people who just buy a big name game once a month and stay on gold via the trials.

look into some of the good rpgs, like lost odyssey or something like that. xbox 360 should have been named fpsbox - unless you go the route of an action adventure title (GTA OMG GTA GTA GTA) then you're going to find that the haxbox shines at fps, and the other genres tend to be a little less loved.

Mass Effect all the way d00d. Darksector is suprisingly good as well. You won't care much for the characters in the story but you get a glaive.

mass effect, while feeling like a knockoff of KOTOR 1 and 2, was still an excellently done game that i felt was enjoyable, in all regards. the shooting was what put it apart, and that was my favorite part. by the end of the game, you can just rape anything in your path - it's awesome.

Puzzle Fighter and Puzzle Quest if you're a puzzle fanatic like me. Or Ikaruga, Triggerheart for shooter fans. The Prince of Persia remake is incredible (mostly since I fell in love with the older game) and the new Bionic Commando remake looks like it's going to be the game of the year for me.

ps3 version has a higher rate of fail than the 360 version, by far. stick with the 360. my friend got it for ps3 and likes the controls of the 360 version, as well.

There are a few RPGs out for the 360 like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect and Oblivion, and more are coming out like Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean 4(possibly), Fable 2, Infinite undiscovery, Last Remnant, etc.

Only problem I'm seeing is that these are all from the "big guns" publishers and developers. Nothing niche is really coming out for any of the new systems, which is disappointing to say the least.

Ikaruga and Rez is what makes XBLA worth it.
Other good games that you get in some fancy box (you know, not downloadable) are Oblivion, Eternal sonata, skate, Virtua Fighter 5 (!!!) and Bioshock.
Bioshock is an FPS but it's so good you just don't care.

I'm pretty interested in the Bionic Commando remake, should be a lot of fun. I hear the original is coming to XBLA as well, which if true should be great to experience that again (never beat it, but got really far before my brother and I lost interest back in the day).

On a side note, am I the only one who is disappointed with Assassin's Creed? It's certainly a pretty game, and while there are some interesting mechanics, the experience on a whole was suprisingly bland and unengaging. It may be because I haven't played enough of it yet (made it to the 2nd city), but honestly I'm going to have to be running low on my backlog before I give that another shot.

I highly suggest GTA 4 for XBOX 360 as opposed to the PS3. While there are some performance & graphical advantages to owning a PS3 copy, X-Box Live is just beautiful right now in terms of reliability, connection, and drop-in gameplay with others.
