River City Ransom 'River City Rammstein'

Holy fucking shit. Beat me with an amp and call me Jessie, this is some
awesome work from Mazedude, who is very quickly becoming one of my
favorite remixers. A shame I'm not more familiar with the original,
because this one just tears all kinds of stuff up and throws it back at you.
I love it.

Okey dokey! This is something very good! It has a great action-feeling to it, and though I cannot remember the original (the last time i played RCR was years ago) this version fits the game perfectly. If they ever make a movie of River City Ransom, this would be in the teaser.

Overall quite a great mix, synths are absolutely astounding, and the drums kick as well. However, other than the very begining it doesn't sound really all the Rammstein-esque to me. Not that that's a bad thing, actually this is one of the better remixes on the site in my eyes. Most of them seem a bit too much on the techno side for my tastes. This song is great, it sounds like it came right out of a recording studio, really clean and cut sound to it. Ending's nice and strong, but the "bubbly" sound at the begining is sort of odd. I think it could have been a bit heavier on guitar, but that's just personal taste.

Anyhow, 9.5 out of 10

Also I recomend one of Mazedude's other Mixes, Super Metroid - Norfair Deathmarch, not the same style, but good quality nonetheless. It can be found here: http://remix.overclocked.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00381

hi hi

I can remember playing river city ransom a long time ago...now i cant really remember the music from it, but after hearing this remix, i'm going to have to go back and play it again. beating up endless big eyed goons with baseball bats chains and brass knuckles is portrayed excellently in this remix. my favorite bit is the part after 2 minutes 50 seconds.

As I read DJP's write-up of this tune, I kept thinking to myself "DJP may love it, but there's no way I'm gonna think as highly of it." But I download every remix so I preceeded. I absolutely agree with DJP on everything he said here. Wonderful mix, and I am highly impressed. Everyone should download this, fan of RCR or not. Mazedude kicks my ass again!

I've been on a huge Rammstein bender and finding this makes it worse. Remix wise this is an incredible job and sounds like something the band would do. Though I have never played the game before this makes me want to go out on a hunt. Most of the remixes I find on this site don't deal with much industrial sounds, and this definitly a pelasent change from the technos. Great job Mazedude!

This is definately a refreshing deviant from the classic techno of most of the songs I've heard so far; an extremely enjoyable remix, with incredible synchs and an amazing beat behind the unpredictable flow of the entire song. I'll definately be looking forward to more remixes by Mazedude.

Shame on those who haven't played RCR!

Anyways, this is the track from any boss fight. Which is clearly very awesome. Pretty much how I would've pictured it when some stumpy guy was throwing a wheel at me. It was really the one piece in the game that stood out as different amongst all of the bluesy stuff. Mazedude picked probably the best one he could've from this game, and he did a fantastic job. I have no gripes, which is a first. Good job, dude... Mazedude that is...

I think Mazedude should buy me a new set of ear drums. I think I just wore out the old ones banging my head to this absolutly amazing song. Stunning!

The song's very charming on its own, one of the first industrial mixes that hit OC ReMix i think. Great sounds overall, a bit risky around the edges because not everyone loves raw industrial like this.

This song rates a good 9/10 in my charts.

good show on this one.

It's very cool, even more so since the first time he sent it my way a few weeks ago, I burned it so I can listen to it on my soundsystem with better speekers than my comp. :)

Oh dear me. River City Ransom is without a doubt my favorite NES game of all time. I was curious as to what song this was going to be, and was surprised by the boss theme being the choice. I love the heavy bass, grinding guitars, and the synthy leads. It DOES sound like Rammstein. Very very nice stuff. It's making me want to take a crack at one of the other songs in the game ... the shop, perhaps?

If you guys haven't played RCR yet, give it a spin on an emulator. It's a game that stands the test of time for me.

This is an absolutely brilliant remix of a very underappreciated tune from a game which was also underappreciated in my circle of friends...Mazedude, this remix RULES!

Now, if only the Minibosses would cover it...

8O Bah to Minibosses, this is all I need. INCREDIBLE remix from my all-time favorite game, Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (Fsck the naysayers, the Jap version is superior). 8O

8O Holy. Mother. Of God.

This is brilliant. RCR is one of my all time favorite NES titles, and this track is straight from my mental image of "RCR The Movie".

My lord this is wonderful stuff, from the opening to the transitions around 1:20 - 1:36, and the stuff at 2:20 is just making me nod my head. It's Grand Slam with a trash can to the grill, and don't forget the Egg Rolls.

9/10. Easy.

Great ReMix from Mazedude. My friends and I used to spend a lot of time playing RCR back then. The boss song was our favorite song of the game (the last boss song too). A shame that some here haven't came across the game :(.

This ReMix: Impulsive. I had the chills when I listened to that song... nostalgia. :D I like the first half part better that the second... Maybe I would have liked the first part to loop (not an exact loop) again or something... Still, the song is great. Definitely on my playlist :)

RiverCityRammstein by Mazedude is highly recommended. 5 Stars. Nice Heavy sound and yet its not industrial. Great Distortion though its not exactly rock. And great synth samples yet is not techno. I had to play this song 3 times to figure out it was a 'serious' mix of the boss music. Its like River City Meets WWF Smackdown.
keep up the good work Mazedude, I want to here more like this.

While I really like the remix, I wonder why everyone keeps referring to Rammstein ~ it doesn't really give me the Rammstein feeling... but maybe I'm too much into their music to accept a lighter piece as this song as something similar.

The remix is really good, though!

Woah, Ausgezeichnet! A great techno rock remix, albeit a little too soft and techno to be considered "Rammstein". I love the heavy guitars, and I really love the balance Mazedude created between the background guitars and the lead techno synth. The end half of this song is a bit disappointing, though. Nothing to terrible, and definently nothing that will reduce the quality of this track, it's just a little repetitive. A well done ReMix. Check it out!

I haven't listened to this remix yet, and haven't read any other comments about it either in order to be as open minded as possible. I'm a big fan of the game, though I haven't played it in like 8 years. It's one of those games thats always gonna be stapled in my mind. Gotta love dragonfeet, lol.

begining.....
Whoa.....the intro alone has me feeling very violent.
WOW. My head is bobbing back and forth like I have some sort of vertibtrae problem or something.
The overall feel thusfar is captivating. I have no choice but to tap my foot and play drums on my peice of shit archaic laptop and computer desk.
I love how all of the melody lines sound, and the rythem stuff really enhances the feel. I love how alot of the tones are distorted, they give it that ass beating feel that I'm sure the orriginal developers really wanted on the game, rather than the lackluster sound quality of the amazing midi.
I love the phasing sound of the rythem guitars too. You didn't go overboard with it like I hear all to often. To many people out there think that they need that sort of effect as loud and obnoxious as they can get it. You clearly understand the tonal color changing abbilities that reside in this effect. I love the decrepid keyboard line at 2:50. The sound, the melody, and how it enhances the I'm gonna beat your ass with a lead pipe mood.

I think it was brilliant. I find it all to common to hear music from that same particular genre to be repetitive. You kept me guessing. Everytime I thought I certain part should end, it ended, And when things ended, I was always on my toes because you found another great thing to do with this composition.

I give it a perfect 5 stars.

This is quite possibly the best remix i've heard on here to date, i registered just to review it. If you havn't heard it, then you havn't heard it, and there is nothing i can do about that, except this: listen to this.

Mazedude I personally think this is your best song ever, and you did an awesome job giving it that rammstein edge, keep up the great remixes man.

I dislike intensley the synth crackles that dart about from ear to ear at the beginning.

The rest of it's pretty good, though (except for the parts near the end that seem to be hugely disjointed)

Its very good...most definitley above average (though I dont seem to be enjoying it as much as everyone else :| )
Either way I highly recommend it to everyone...even if you havent played the game, its still a pretty awesome track.

Wow.... I DLed this song after seeing it in the 'first remix you heard" thread as someone's choice. DIZZAMN! This is a cool-ass remix. I like the electronic synth-age, among other things...:D

As you can tell by my post count, I very, very rarely log in and post. However, this is well worth it. :D I spit upon whoever dislikes this mix.
I feel guilty that I've had this remix for so long and said nothing about it here, as this is easily my favorite remix to date. At 1:57, I love the sudden drop (forgive my lack of remixing terms). The bit from 2:19 to 2:32 is wonderful, and the ending is perfectly executed. The Rammstein edge is near flawless, which makes me love it even more, and it's the perfect music to destroy your eardrums with.
Excellent, Mazedude, this mix was damn near flawless (because nothing's perfect), and was (if you will) quite inimitable. 8)

This was the first OverClocked song I heard. I was instantly hooked on OC, and I have Mazedude to thank for it. Good stuff. A classic in my mind.

There seems to be volume problems with this. The first half is quieter. Then it really picks up and makes me really like it. Maybe it has to do with the ranges of the song not always being full, but what do I know about ranges?

"Hold it! Rocko says punks can't pass!"

This is my favorite remix ever. I'm too young to remember the NES days, so with the power of emulation I've been able to play this masterpeice of a game. The boss music is my favorite, second only to the River City High music when you're near/in the building.

My God, words fail me.

I'm one of the few guys lucky enough to have stumbled across RCR in my childhood, and that was my absolute favorite beat 'em up game ever. Double Dragon had nothin' on RCR.

And this remix? Well, honestly, amazingly enough, I can't find a single flaw in it. It lacks nothing, not even some small, tiny aspect that would normally make me say "great remix, but if only..."

This is an epic work of art.

Another great one from Mazedude! It just keeps going only getting more intense! Definatly hyper and loud but in a good way, however Mazedude doesn't do his all-famous, tempo change technique in this one, well that's not a bad thing. Anyways, nice job on this one Mazedude!

In all honesty, there's about only one sound that's obviously Rammstein-evident. KMFDM comparisons really don't seem to ring true either. It's a very nice mix, but it's certainly been a bit mislabeled. This definitely screams OC Remix by Mazedude.

I haven't really heard anything by Rammstein save for 'Du Hast', which I gotta say sounded absolutely nothing like this mix. Certainly, Rammstein's reputation isn't for Mazedude-ish synth style rocking. Which is a shame, because the world can never get enough.
A very well produced hardcore track here. Has that new Mazedude smell to it, which all good Mazedude mixes (and all those mythical bad ones) possess. And I say 'new', but in truth, I was pretty surprised by how old this actually is. It's not like the samples are amazing; I think it has more to do with the fact that Mazedude has stayed consistant throughout his OCR career and never got stuck on doing the one genre/sound. Therefore, I had trouble pinpointing when this mix was actually concieved, which is nice because it means longevity.
*sigh* And since I've literally been typing all day, I think that's about all I have to say on the matter. Great mix, great game, great mixer. I'm out.

On a scale of one to amazing, this mix is a killer. Never played the game but I do like Rammstein. Till Lindemann would be proud of this mix. My only beef with this track is that it probably could have been a little louder/heavier. Maybe I'm just saying that because my ears are plugged from the flu. Either way, good work Mazedude

This is a song I listen to at least once a day, sometimes more. Seriously, it's that awesome to me. I'd be listening to last.fm, minding my own business; and then I hear this. It's a really awesome dance track that I could just imagined being played at clubs and whatnot. Truly a masterpiece, and with it being done by a veteran like Mazedude, it's no suprise.

Everything about this track is excellent except that weaksauce rhythm guitar sample. The percussion, filtering, effects, synth leads, gates and arrangement itself? All amazing, A+. This is the kind of track that would really benefit from some Sixto love. It'd take him all of 5 minutes to do too. :-)

I really do like the track, but I think it's being held back from it's full power.

This is really more EBM than industrial (think God Module, Das Ich, and so on), but River City Rammstein really IS the better name. Everything hits true and hits hard; I haven't been able to wear it out after almost ten years of trying, with tight crunchy synths slamming from every direction around a rockin' melody propelling it forward, in a well-mastered soundscape. Every time you get a handle on where it's going, it turns a corner. As always, a masterful contribution.
