Prince's acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer's symbol) had phallic connotations for some.

Are people ultra sensitive these days, or is it just me?
Oh, and snickers' Superbowl ad is being called "Homo-Phobic".

They should have had one of the female dancers kneeling on the other side of the curtain. Then people would have a right to complain.

Yeah, before I read the comment and just looked at the photo I thought "oh, sorta cool, they made his shadow look like a demon, there's the tail and the horns and goat legs". Then I read your comment and go "Whhhaaat??"
Seriously folks, what is wrong with people?

People are way too fucking sensitive. What were they expecting from Prince anyway? Every other song he writes is about fucking. His acts are very sexual in nature.
And as for that Snickers commerical, it was hilarious and nothing different than what has been done before in TV and movies.

I see that some Americans are going out of their way to be offended these days.
Five bucks says that the group of people that complained about this were the same organization of people that complained about the Janet Jackson nipple thing.

Oh.
No way. If that actually looks like someone's PeePee than I think these offended people are overly obsessed with sex, which must be why they seem to try and find it EVERYWHERE!
Like the rest of you said before, it does seem like people go out of their way to be offended and that they are way too senstive. It also feels to me that as a culture that tries to act overly conservative about sex, we sure as heck bring it up a lot. :/

Since every guitar is an extention of a guitar player's dick at a mental level, why does it really matter?

PeePee
hi there im 12 or so years old and still afraid to say PENIS
While I thought it was obviously phallic and there was no way they didn't plan it or at least notice this in rehearsal, its no big deal. Kids aren't going to pick up on it and adults should be adult enough to deal with it. It doesn't actually LOOK like a huge dick. It looks like a stylized symbol of a dick...maybe.

But this time, it was the NFL that produced the halftime show (MTV had in 2004). Spokesman Greg Aiello said the league has received no complaints.
"We respect other opinions, but it takes quite a leap of the imagination to make a controversy of his performance," Aiello said. "It's a guitar."
Seems nobody else really thinks it's that bad either.

Bleh. Penis is the technical term. PeePee on the other hand, is much more catchy.

I guess every half-time show's going to be over scrutinized ever since the uptights of America were startled by a 38 year old tit... the scars from which still have yet to heal apparently.

QFE. that's a very good way of putting it. I also thought that it looked more like a demon/devil thing instead of his "peepee".

A bit of Lewis Black comes to mind whenever I see one of these "OH GOD IT'S A PENIS/BOOB IN REAL LIFE OH GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"'But what about the children, Lewis', I can hear some of you asking that. What about the children? It's more disturbing for a child to hear an adult talking about this, and how it's disgusting, and evil, and wrong, than it is to actually see one.

I can't believe that everyone is still talking about the halftime show. Didn't anyone watch the game? Didn't anyone else notice that before almost every play, the center would bend over and then the quarterback would walk up and stand behind him in a sexually suggestive way? All I know is if I were a parent, I would be really afraid of my kids turning gay from watching that. Football needs to be stopped.

No, just over-hyped games of it that turn out to be boring, and one sided.

I thought that too, but do they have to play it out to the public like some perverts?
I agree with some who say that was probably one of the best half time shows ever.
Prince has remained a pretty good artist in my opinion. Unlike a lot of old timers who tends to recycle their music and go to tour to get money. He's what Michael Jackson would've been if he didn't go crazy.
As for the game itself, you can't expect much when they're playing in a heavy storm. That was just ridiculous. The only thing missing was thunder and lightning.

I don't give a damn what anybody says, Prince rocked that fucking half time show. Way better than the Rolling Stones last year. The poeple enjoyed Prince's show more.

But that's just it. Playing in the rain should have made for a far more interesting game, and in the first quarter, it did. Fumbles, stumbles, bobbled catches and passes... it was good watching. But once the second quarter started, the Bears died, and the Colts just took their sweet time getting points over a three quarter snooze-fest.

At least it was just a guitar, a classic phallic symbol, and not just some random acronym. That makes it stick out so much worse.

Yeah, seeing Mick Jagger up there in a belly shirt trying to rock out was disturbing.

And after we got over the disturbance, all ten of us fell asleep for about 10 minutes because of massive boredness.

Ok, well that's cool. Hardly a problem seeing some old has-been 60s sex symbol jumping around showing off his wrinkles (not creepy), but once you have a guitar behind a curtain... That's when our lives are truly in danger.

I just wish whoever organizes next year's halftime show grows some testicles and books someone decent, indie rock is hot as fire right now, booking the Shins or Bloc Party or Deathcab or Modest Mouse or any indie act that's been in the mainstream would be sweet. Or maybe even a rapper, Rakim's stuff is pretty harmless for the most part, maybe Beastie Boys because a lot of their stuff isn't too offensive, maybe even Luda or someone like that.

From a Chris Rock monologue about MJ's pedophilia: "Remember back in the 80's when everyone was arguing over who was better, Michael Jackson or Prince. Prince won."

If they got The Shins on the next superbowl halftime, I might actually care enought to watch it.

Justin Timberlake! He could do SexyBack and...
Oh wait.
But the fact that CBS did the Super Bowl this year meant that they were under a lot of scrutiny. Even Prince was a bit of a risk, IMO, and obviously some people interpreted it through that magnifying glass.
I don't think this has hurt Prince's career at all, though; I've heard people say he was the best part of that game.
