I think I may have mussed something on my computer, but when I go to dowload a song, I get Quicktime instead of Windows Media Player. What would I do to change this, if possible?

Save the song to your HD, right click it and click open with. Choose Windows Media Player in the list and check the Always use this program box if you want to always use WMP.
and what if it doesnt let you oprn it from mindows media player?

Quicktime likes to override your media preferences. I had the exact same problem for a few days. QT just randomly decided to ignore all the other programs that I set to play all the different media types, and set it stself as a universal player. No matter what I did in any settings on any program (browser, players, even the QT settings itself), QT would always end up taking over playing files.
I uninstalled Quicktime, and used QT alternative . Haven't had a problem with it since.
Quicktime is practically a virus the way it works.

Alright, I will try some of this. Thank you very much.

A convenient Google Search (link) (http://www.google.com) reveals that QuickTime Alternative is a program that enables you to play QuickTime movie extensions without having to download the whole program. It runs with your basic Windows Media Player once you install it.

If you're using Firefox, there's a way to change which program opens what type of file, and if you want to save it or not (Tools > Options > File Types > Manage). I've no clue about any other browsers though.

Quicktime itself can also be easily set to only open up a select few filetypes. Control Panel > Quicktime > Filetypes.
Outside of that, check Browser > MIME Settings as well.
Uncheck everything it lets you uncheck, hit OK, then start the programs you want to use for those filetypes and set them to use them.
You can also avoid this to begin with by unselecting the filetypes during Quicktime's installation.
i dont see options under tools
and as for the quicktime preferences i unchecked everything but it still doesnt work it justsais "error opening movie" which is really weird considering its not a movie
