Cool. I'd download it, but I don't know a good place to download from with reasonable speed and or don't need to sign up. Anyone have any recommendations?
Edit: Well I found this site that seems to work... http://www.vgpro.com/file/20758_CnC3_Demo.exe.html

Download the tool at www.ea.com/ealink to get the demo. It's small and won't mess around with your computer. There are no queues and the speed is very fast, I got it in less than 2 hours and it's a 1.2gb file.

There are a few visible 'Red Alert 2' inspired moments - one being the different groupings for constructing stuff in the sidebar. Managing more than one build queue is however, quite awkward at the moment, though I suspect that is probably due to me not knowing how to manage hotkeys on the demo...
Gameplay is generally as fast as they claim, with most units not lasting long enough to make a serious impression. Mammoth Tank could really do with being toned down as it's exceptionally deadly, and it does build a tad too fast for something that dangerous... Try it, you'll agree ;)
Building placement needs revising IMO, it's a bit hard to tell where you can and can't put your buildings due to it's new 3Dism. The 3D isn't a bad thing, it just needs to be a bit simpler or clearer so you don't spend 5 minutes working out where you can drop a building while the enemy bombs your base.
To be honest, the technological jump-back isn't too noticable in the storyline. I can say that I do not see this game becoming a PC classic, it feels too average at the moment. Think 'Emperor: Battle For Dune' but with CnC. However, it does have gameplay features which will at least guarantee it a good playing from me. All in all, it's a 'wait and see' case still, but the storyline is at least shaping up to be something special :)

Fileplanet is the anti-christ, and EA Link is like if Hitler was retarded and turned into a computer program.
Why do they have to release the demo only on these abominations?

Just get it via torrent at any torrent site like torrentspy.com which is where I found it. It's approximately a 1.2 gig file. I'm currently downloading it and can't wait to try it out. :D I'm not expecting much but I'm thinking it'll still be worth buying.

This is the most fun RTS I've played since Age of Mythology. I wish the demo had online play.
Okay, so I queued up the torrent like 30 minutes ago, and when I checked just now it was done. Scary.
I'll wait until tomorrow to play it though...gotta go to bed.

Oh my God... this demo, quite frankly, is amazing. I just got finished playing through both the tutorial and the (rather limited) GDI Prologue, and I must say, it is looking like it will be one of the finest RTS' in a long time.
It's very refreshing that EA has taken us back with the return of FMV cutscenes and story sections, and it is only amplified by the marvelous job they have done thus far; giving us such quality cutscenes and such a well thought-out story (even if it is small) for a lowly demo is quite the job well done. It looks, even from here, that the cast is set to do an amazing job.
The redesigned HUD looks amazing, as I would expect. I'm really loving some of the commands and buttons that they have implemented this time around; being able to look at the specific number of each type of unit currently selected is a great help when building tactical squads. I wasn't really expecting unit buildings to be separate al-la Generals, but the more I play it, the less I miss the shared "primary building" style of the older games. It threw me off a little to be left-selecting / right-commanding in a C&C game, but it's something I can get used to.
And, of course, the game looks beautiful. I got a little slowdown on the higher settings (my computer has overkill power on it, so it was definitely not a lack of tech), but I'm sure that was getting hammered out for the final release. The laser effects are really impressive, especially the ION Cannon strike (personally, my favorite strike was in Renegade, but this blast comes damn near close to the epic look of RG's Cannon).
Altogether, a very well put together demo, one that makes me quite excited for C&C 3's March release.

An easter egg has been found. In the skirmish menu, open the faction bar, highlight Nod, hold down N and click. Voila, you can now play as Nod. The same works procedure works if you want to play against GDI, just hold down G.

S seems to work for Scrin, too. Wonder if this is an easter egg or a bug.
Edit: Well, Scrin works for about two seconds. Then the game realizes you have no units or buildings and you lose. Definetly seems like a bug to me.

Glad to hear that. 8)
I was hoping for that mouse patch, gg.
It's overall pretty good. It's like Generals, but with the little things I found very annoying in it (multiple superweapons, worker units) taken out from it and infused with C&C classic goodness.
The FMVs are very good and I get all giddy getting a good job commander from Jennifer Morrison.
The new nod units are very cool and so are their new abilities. It looks like they've made Nod and GDI a bit more different this time around so they'd have different fighting styles against the Scrin. I'm also wary of them, I don't know if they'll be good or overpowered...
Yes, the mammoth feels VERY strong, much better then the Avatar.
Some of my favorite new additions are the Generals or CoH-like bonus powers like the bombings and special missiles and the multiple building queues. Also that support unit is pretty damn cool, no more building MCVs to expand Tiberium collecting. It works wonders with multi-queuing since you can stack 3 turrets, 1 power plant, barracks, tib refinery and tank defenses so when the support deploys you can place them instantly and have a decent new base in less then 5 seconds.
Shaping up to be a great entry in the series and the C&C fix we all need.

It's not bad, but it's ages from Klepacki's stuff from what I've heard so far. I really, REALLY hope we can get custom mp3s in this thing, since it's pretty lackluster.

Simply replacingthe music shouldn't be a problem, like other games you just need to know the directory structure (In the .big data files, in this case). The problem here is that the music is dynamic and split up.

Good to hear, good to hear. So I'm guessing the Avatar is basically NOD's supertank? I initially read it thinking Aang from the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender lol (dammit, that show kicks ass).
I'm glad to hear about the superweapon limit, especially after playing against people who use the superweapon general online in Generals:Zero Hour (albeit haven't done that for a long time now). The construction of building, however, is once again queued on like the sidebar or something like the old C&C/RA? I guess I could get used to that again (though it sounds a little different, since you were saying you can queue several buidlings and deploy them at your convenience), but in that case do you have to basically click on a repair tool then click on the building you wish to repair, or is it automatic? One last question; what is the role of the support unit you mentioned? I'm not gonna have time to even install the demo till this weekend, so just getting all my curiousities out :-P.

-It's the sidebar again. And it's even better.
-You still have to click the repair icon and repair each building individually.
-The support unit can be build from the start of the game in the defenses icon. It's 1500$ and it has no weapons. You can send it to somewhere in the map, set it to deploy (it takes about 20 secs to deploy) and once it does you can build stuff around it just as if it were an MCV. Good to gain fast control of Tiberium patches.

If you people didn't figure it out, that button trick with changing your faction where you hold the button of the first letter of an option and click works with computer types and whatever else there's a pull down menu to.

Finally had a chance to play it. The demo is pretty awesome, that's a given. Something that kinda disappointed me, though, was the lack of a good number of upgrades - seems to me there should have been more available (I will say, though, the ones they had to offer were quite nice). I'm still deciding whether or not I like how they're handle clearing of garrisoned buildings: on one hand it's nice that units with that ability will do that as their default attack against garrisoned structures, and on the other hand it makes it a little too easy and gives less reason to garison in the first place. Overall, though, very few complaints. Definitely looking forward to the full game coming out.

I hardly even noticed there were any upgrades.
As much as I'm liking the demo, it seems you can simply spam guard towers and the CPU will continually throw units at them without thinking. It gets pretty easy after that...

I got the Kane Edition and have been playing it for most of the day. Tried a bit of the GDI and Nod campaigns, and got my ass kicked by the Scrin in a skirmish map. The music is boring, and the cutscenes feel kind of undramatic compared to the previous installations.
Anyone want to try multiplayer? Odd how I couldn't find a friends list in the online features, you'd kind of expect that to be standard these days.

Also, about the music...well, I had an idea the other day; what if some people on this site did a project specifically for replacing the music in the game? I mean, it would be more interesting than just turning the music volume off and running iTunes while you're playing...

I was waiting for it when I first heard about it. When I got the demo, I was excited. When I played it, I was hugely disappointed. It just didn't feel like a C&C game to me. I'll probably buy it when it drops in price to about twenty or so bucks. The only thing that was really cool about it was the sidebar. And I could probably find a few gripes about that as well. I was afraid that it would fall into the mediocrity that is known as EA Games. And it seems I was right.
It doesn't help EA gain any points with me when they insist on releasing a patch the day a game is released. It supposedly fixes bugs that shouldn't of even been in the final release anyway.

It's great, save for the music. I'm gonna try to find someway to allow us to replace it. The cutscenes are just right, the AI is good, it's pretty much oldschool C&C. The series are fast-paced RTSs and this is what C&C3 is. Good job EA. Plus the online has a bunch of cool little features like that commenting thing. I look forward to more EA games where they allow the developing teams more freedom.

Man, Gecko, I have no clue what you are talking about... C&C3 is great; not RA2 great, but great, nonetheless. I haven't gotten ahold of the Scrin yet, as I'm still on the GDI missions, but so far, the units seem well balanced and they all have uses; sure, once you get the mammoths, you're pretty much done, but you still need Pitbulls to detect stealth units that can attach bombs and such, so not all units are useless late-game.
I wish that A) they would have kept but re-worked some of the TS era units (where the crap did the Wolverines go? they reworked the Titans, why not the Wolves?) for continuity's sake, and that B) the air battles would be a little more diversified. Having to pay for individual airdrops instead of being able to make dedicated air transport is not only annoying, but gets REALLY costly.
Really, the only FMV complaint I have so far is Jennifer Morrison's work; don't get me wrong, she is hot and is dedicated to her character, but it seems a little forced. I would expect a little more playfulness out of my EVA-type intelligence officers, but she comes across as way too much of a hard-ass. Micheal Ironside has that side covered.
Really, I haven't paid much attention to the music that much, so I can't say if it sucks or not (the AI is a much more pressing concern...). I figured it wouldn't be as memorable as TS or RA/2's tunes, though. Those were some good soundtracks.

Is it sad that my favorite tactic in the campaign missions, is to overwhelm, then take over their structures and see how far their tech tree advances?
