OCR AG Tournament: Street Fighter Alpha 3

Hello and welcome to the second Overclocked Remix Arcade Game Tournament! We got quite the game this time folks. EasyP, the winner of the last AG tournament, has chosen a fan favorite for this month, Street Fighter Alpha 3! A lot of interest has been shown, and this tournament is going to be a big one.

In this tournament, we shall be doing the "round robin" format. Rules are simple for this. Default settings are mandatory.
You will be playing best 2 out of 3. Point distribution is explained in the table below.

We will be using an emulator called Kawaks (http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/7509/ocrfgtuj9.png), a cps1/cps2 and neogeo emulator. It has its own netplay option that does not require lan, so we do not need to worry about using Hamatchi. You can use whichever server fits you best to play your matches on. East coast should use "anti3d", while the West coast should use "fragbox". These two are the best for both coasts, and should help to minimize desynching and ping issues.

Alright, I've never double posted before, but I feel this thread's dire need of attention is worth me risking my my livelihood over.

So, UBER-BUMP!!!/UPDATE!!!!

I found a few instructional videos on the web recently. The problem is none of them are made specifically for SFA:3. However, I have tested out most of the techniques discussed in said videos and can say that they almost all carry over from SSFII:Turbo (the demo game) to SFA:3.

Also, just for your information there are multiple versions of SFA3 out there, the "tournament accepted" version is the US one, whose ROM number ID is 980904.

I've drawn up a round-robin thingy so that we can start playing. Arek mentioned that he just wanted round-robin, and that system is having quite a bit of success in the Mario Kart tournament that I've decided to also revert back to it for the chess league (although that has more to do with most of the players being totally MIA right now and having a week-long deadline would be unfair for most).

We'll figure out the stagger and points rules later, but we'll probably have rules and guidelines sometime today.

I just got the game. Kamoh talked to me about the isms, but I'm still not 100% clear on them. I played a lot of SFII Turbo so I'm probably going to use Xism, but what are the disadvantages of it?

X-Ism = No air block, only 1 hyper combo avaliable to you
A-Ism = Nothing really bad about it, just a bit harder to use, some hypers for characters are REALLY SHITTY, but others are FANTASTIC
V-Ism = The best & hardest ism to use. Puts you in this crazy mode where you move about 3 times faster than normal and can combo CRAZY. SERIOUSLY HARD TO DO CORRECT

I've changed my mind on the idea of having a playoff. As long as games ACTUALLY get done, it's the best way to find a winner that I can think of, without creating a zillion rules on intangibles like not showing up for matches.

Without "reports" like I've had in the past, the players who are ACTIVE and actually play will be given priority over those who are less available pretty naturally. It's now just a matter of how many spots you want (2, 3, 4, 6, 8, etc), and if you want to do some stranger playoff system (hint: you don't).

A couple of changes to the table:

Color coded based on a "Top6" finals/playoff system. For those of you living in North America, the finals will be like the CFL or NFL playoffs - 1 and 2 get byes, 3, 4, 5, and 6 play quarterfinals.

Also the deadline for REGISTRATION has changed to TUESDAY - this also means that the round-robin phase will complete a LOT sooner than previously expected.
When 48 matches are done in 4 days, I don't think that ANYONE wants a lull of action - although we WILL see it.

The program Kawaks has an option called "netplay" where you can connect to a server via the Kaillera client. You either join a game or start your own.
