Mega Man 2 'Teardrinker'
Heh, looks like Pretzel quoted me. I'll let my past words speak for themselves. :)

Uhh...I'm really not sure about the strings here. It almost reminds me of muzak that was layed over the original NSF of the Bubble Man music, and the strings seem to be paying vague attention to what's going on in the melody. I like the idea here, but the background seems to really drown out the melody and kind of add a cheesier effect to the whole thing. It's still very interesting and well done, just not my cup of tea...

Um.... incidentally, this song was posted on my birthday, 9-24-81. Yay for me. I'm 21!

I love this piece. It makes me wish Bubbleman got his own game- a heartwrenching RPG where he broods and meets Bubblegirl but she dies, so he broods more and kills some demons.
But I digress.
The chromaticism, that DJP mentions in his quip, is well placed towards the end, allowing for a nice buildup. Once you've become acclaimated to the new chord structure of this old, familiar tune, the chromatacism surprises you yet again.
Instrumentation is excellent. A beautiful blend of NSF sounding synths and chilling, bright piano along with warm, slow strings give the mix a full sound without being overpowering.
The deep, haunting drums maintain their power because of the restraint which this piece excersises.
Viscerally/ intelectually it's great all around. I love this unique and engaging ReMix.

Horrible.
The whole thing sounds disorganized.
It sounds like you're playing 2 different songs at the same time.
The backround music is cool, but is totally mismatched.
Sorry, but I didn't like it.

I don't compose music, but I like to say I listen to it a lot.
I loved this remix. I think it is the best Bubble Man remix so far.
I don't understand anything about underlying drumb beats or anything of that sort, but I really enjoy the mixture here.
I don't see how the foreground and backgound don't match. Sure, they aren't the exact same notes, but when one is loud the other is loud, when one is slow, the other is slow. That's all I notice.
That's what I like.
Good work, wingless!!

This kind of reminds me a little bit of some minimalist stuff I've heard...like Steve Reich or something...only a little less repetitious.
I have to say though, that I really really like this mix. It asks a lot of you as a listener, being that there's so much going on, and you really have to pay attention to what it is that's going on to enjoy it.
It's almost like there's two songs, occuring simultaneously...
Great stuff, great stuff.

Took me about 30 seconds to realize how this worked, and about 45 more seconds to figure out how well it did. First, I have to say this one's not for everyone...if you don't like an FM synth, no matter how well it fits (I know many who don't), you'll absolutely hate this, and the was the tracks fit...I can't begin to describe. Listening to some of the tracks individually, as I'm sometimes wont to do (decomposing in my mind), I wondered how it all fit together seamlessly...and looking at it as a whole, I just thought 'whoa'. An exceptional job by The Wingless on this one; in my opinion, hands down the most intricate Bubbleman remix here.

I totally agree with fsPhantom...this is a VERY intricated Bubble Man Remix (or any remix, for that matter), and The Wingless built it well! Great job, and happy birthday!

This has to be one of the most re-listenable mixes on the site. The first time through the song may not impress you much, but if you give it another try, you will find it very deep, and it just gets better every time you listen to it. Excellent musical work by The Wingless, it takes a true musician to put up counter melodies and seemingly clashing notes and make them work correctly into a very rewarding piece every time you listen to it.

You know...
It's actually chromatic the whole way through. Just the real harsh stuff doesn't come in until later. Didn't notice that first time around. Goood schtuff.

Chromatism makes me violent. Honestly.
There are a lot of elements I like in this mix, but I felt it needed more prominent bass at parts.
i liked it. my only gripe is that it feels too top-heavy with treble. i'm a bassaholic, so it's not something i can groove to per se...
but i really liked the dream-like ambience that this instills in me. it's something i could just sit back and chill to. i just wish there was some bass to balance it out.

I dont know what to think of this remix. It borderlines arhymic and sheer genius.
It doesn't seem to go anywhere which sorta bothers me. Sorta related to how I'm not a big trance person. Definately good mood music, but then again I dont know what mood it puts me in. . .
So unique I admire it. But yet I'm disturbed that it could be the product of less effort . . .
OR could it like be the creation of a new genre of music in itself?
I dont know. . . but its worth time to at the least analyze it.

What are you people talking about, this song sounds so epic in the begining, with good build up that seems to generate a few times. The cameo mega man sounds and everything appear. It's not too fast but not too slow, it does sound like two songs, and seems a bit disorganized. I dont like the 3min + of it just seems to get way off track. I do enjoy the begining and can listen to it over and over again.

This is one of the best Mega Man remixes I've ever heard. I love the pseudo-chiptune effect that plays the original parts of the song. He turns stage music from one of the most annoying stages in a Mega Man game (ugh I hate water stages with spikes all over the place) and turns it into an emotional listening experience. The strings at the beginning weren't exactly in my favor at first, but once the song started moving along, I realized exactly how much depth they provided. The timpani was a nice touch, also. You have to remember that this was a pretty complex song to start out with, so of course you add some guitar chords in the background, and throw in some liquidy sounding piano runs, and you've got yourself quite a bit of stuff going on. But if you concentrate on the melody, it's flawless. Minimal drums was the best route the wingless could have taken here. He captured the spirit of the original, gave it an essence of a watery feel, and just overall, blew any other Bubble Man mix out of the water (no pun intended). Never have I heard such a complex remix.

I liked this song so much I had to register on here so that I could tell anyone who has not downloaded this song to do so. This is my new favorite remix on the site (I would say it used to be Final Fantasy Prelude - Refractive Mix). This song is fantastic! Just get it and listen if you haven't yet.
i think the comparison was of the use of unusual harmonies, or harmonies that werent the traditional interpretation of the original. people are complaining about liberal interpretations in ZM, and they complained about it here. i happen to think that the people who are apprehensive about these different interpretations are listening conservatively. they know what they want to hear, and they wont hear anything else.
on to the mix: i'm not one to give out compliments easily or without warrant. this mix is incredible. its a sonic achievement. the harmony isnt what you usually get in a bubbleman mix, but it is better. This mix has fucking texture. the harmony works, and it conveys emotion better than most anything on the site. i especially like the interlude at around 2:05. the strings are wrenching. There is such a fantastic use of dynamics and layering. its organized chaos. we should be lucky if more remixers knew the value of dynamics as well as The Wingless.

Without applying rules to what a song should be, this one is definately emotive, fresh and has got a groove all of its own. Mr-turned-21, you've excelled again - I will continue to ignore bandwidth constraints in d/l'ing work from you for I am assured of its enjoyability. I really like your style. Please keep innovating on it.
DJP, you are and always will be the man, but what is chromatism or whatever...? This mix is good value.

Hey...you know that feeling when you first went to see your favorite movie and you walked out on awe. Or that time when you bought a CD, you listened to it and you were blown away. I got the same feeling listening to this track.... I have to agree with the others. YOu have to be insane not to download this amazing track.

This is, musically, the best remix on the site...and I have listened to them all. In fact, this might be the absolute best mix on the site but I know someone is going to blast me about subtle sound quality issues. For people who find themselves getting bored by the musical simplicity of many VG remixes, this mix was custom designed to your neural pathways. I'm a tough customer to be captivated by a mix - my idea of easy listening is John Coltrane in his early days. This arrangement is soooooooooooo ENTERTAINING. Seriously, I felt myself connecting with the artist...something that I rarely do with VG remixers. The Wingless is a guy who seems to be about the music first. This is a moving mix that manages to avoid sentimentality...perhaps I should write my posts more like The Wingless writes his tunes.

I haven't listened to this song for like 4 days, and 4 days ago it had a 92.5% rating in my head. But, then I decided to give it the honor of being the first mix to receive a 95% from me. Honestly, if I find anything better, I'm going to have to toughen up my rating system.....maybe even have to find an exact formula for what I shouls rate things. :)
Let me put that in big, bold letters for you.
THIS SONG IS THE BEST DAMN SONG I'VE EVER LISTENED TO!!!!

Let me first congratulate The Wingless: he actually came up with a remix that left me with no idea what to say about it.
To the people who called it overcrowded or disorganized or some variation of those terms: I half agree. There's a lot going on in this piece. If I didn't know better, I'd say The Wingless couldn't decide which cool ideas to implement or to leave out... so he threw 'em all in. I have to say, though, that while the piece is crowded, it sounds good.
To the bassaholics out there: Stuff it. This is good stuff even without a driving bassline. You want that, listen to AE.
One thing I have to bring up: the keychanges. They sound incredible. A bit weird, but in a good way.
Actually, that sums up this entire piece: weird, but in a good way.
And that's about all I can say about this one.

It's very disonant, and that wasn't what you should've been going for with this mix. I don't know man, could've been much better. Nice ideas, even a nice final mood, but I'm with everyone else here... it's kind of like listening to two songs at once, nice if it's abstract art music... bad if it's wingless. :( I like all your other stuff though.

Even after a few listens this mix is still so mysterious.. whether it's the underlying fluttery piano in Wingless style or if it's just the arrangement itself, I felt something beautiful stir from beneath the warbles and fuzzes of the synth, almost like discovering swet pineapple beneath its coarse and spiny surface. It really is a piece you have to listen to closely and form an overall picture to appreciate, I believe. Great stuff.

It's no secret that I like The Wingless, but this ranks near the top of my favorite songs from him. Admittedly it took some time before I appreciated it, but once I got into it this song really took off for me.
Using the original NES music as a base is something not many remixes have and may people tend to shy away from listening. Yes, I admit, 8-bit music isn't the best stuff to listen to, but he-of-no-wings manages to splice the 8-bit music with synth pianos and a drumbeat like no one else on this site does.
On a specific note, throwing the 8-bit beeps that come it at 0:08 and last for a good part of the song between the right and left channels was a great idea.
It takes skill to work with 8-bit beeps and buzzes, yet somehow The Wingless pulls it off absolutely beautifully. Great job and great music.
Note: Admittedly, though, if you go rocking out to this in anywhere but private you will get strange looks. 8-bit tunes and sounds don't exactly recieve a warm welcome in most people's hearts. Video game players only, I guess.

Man, that piano is awesome. I did recognize it somehow, and when i saw that `The Wingless´ made this one, I ran to the remixes from Secret of Mana and looked at Aphrodite Oceanus and the one that had remixed it. Much indeed, it was Wingless. This kind of piano is characteristic.
And for this song, I can understand why many felt like this was like two songs played at the same time, but I found it brilliant. The music of Bubbleman's stage is made of several different tunes, Wingless just simply brought them out into the light much more, and although it sometimes it felt that the tunes didn´t connect, it still feel that this is a great arrangement, best bubbleman remix so far.
Awesome Wingless.
This mix seems vaguely Castlevania-like, and the piano is good. It's great how it just compliments and melds with the 8 bit sounds.
Looking through some of the older posts, I can understand and sympathize with their sentiments, but I don't really like the ending. It sounds like the dial tone after one has been cut off on the phone which is like :???:
But this is still an Incredible mix and worth listening too.

This is a pretty interesting mix because it adequately represents the original melody is a fresh way WHILST STILL tampering and adding additional layers beneath that. So this to me sounds like a finished mix which has then had a string backing applied much later in production. Not that that is my assumption, that's just how it sounded to me. The result is something that I wouldn't describe as dissonant, but perhaps an against-the-grain harmony that I don't entirely dislike. Whereas the piece would otherwise be a solid but slightly bland take on Bubbleman, it most definately benefits from a new persona with its sombre, unpredictable backing tones.
Unmistakably Wingless, which equates to top notch mixing.

Out of all of the Bubbleman stage OC'd, I'd have to say hands down to this one. It makes it completly complex, simple to listen, classical and old school. I have no idea how I missed looking at the list of this sound track but I am as happy as a cat finding this. :nicework:
A + must listen ...
interesting juxtaposition of the source and the new sections here; I think for the most part the arrangement worked, though it got a little crazy harmonically near the end. I think some adjustments could have tightened up that section a little bit more. Also, some of the sounds were a bit lofi for my tastes, and the mixing of the higher quality sounds with the 8 bit bloops wasn't as seamless as it could have been.
Still a great source and a pretty good arrangement, so check it out and decide for your self!

I used to not like this mix, now I enjoy it a lot. It's a very strange combination of, like, what sounds like could have been this relatively straightforward pseudo-cheesy relaxing type orchestral piece with avant-garde weirdness. But then there's a strange chiptune that seems almost half-assedly thrown in. It's hard to describe, but layering of all the different parts is harmonically very wacky and also sort of delayed in places, making stuff clash in new and interesting ways. It sort of brings things out of the original that you didn't think would be there in the first place. I've listened to a bunch of other mixes by Wingless and none of them ever hit me like this one did. It's definitely something that was original and it's sad that more people don't try to attempt things like this.

It's easy to tell that 'The Wingless' has put a lot of time into this one. There are melodies and counter-melodies dancing all over the frequency and stereo spectrum. 1:36 things really start to come together here. By 3:00 things start to get extra dissonant and we get that signature 'Wingless Key Modulation.' At 3:30 we get some haunting strings that lead up to the pseudo-climax: a fadeout harp and square. Not what you'd expect from the source, but I find it quite refreshing.

This song started playing off my playlist, and I know I had been listening to it for a long time, but I didn't really remember how long. Looks like I had originally downloaded it on 9/27/2002.
I probably could have figured it was that old since the album tag is "http://remix.overclocked.org/," but I digress.
This is a great song that I have had on various playlists of mine since I downloaded it almost nine years ago.
