Streets of Rage 2 'Slow Moon Groove'

What's here is very cool, but it's very short. However, I have to disagree with da DJ's point that it was underdeveloped - for it's length, I thought it was very well developed. Yes, something longer would have been cool, but sometimes a short and sweet remix makes just as much of an impact as a 4-min+ one! And personally, I think this is one of those times.

I personally think Avien did a marvelous job on this piece.
All the sounds are serene with an ambient touch that makes you feel like your walking down a dim city street, perfect for relaxing but the only discrepancy that I have is the songs shortness.

 Great Job

Simply put, this is the best SoR mix around, theres nothing wrong here except the lenght, i wish this were so much longer. But it has this soft music, a very good beat to it.

Im always seemingly running out of words in front of good remixes, and this one gets a kudos, and one hell of a kudos.

Good job, a definite must for SoR fans.

Ahhh i heard part of this mix back in the day. I loved it then. I love it now. I dont think its too short, thats why you just keep it on loop, duh. Its a very grooooovy tromp. I donno the original music, but i seriously love this. The synth work and the groove work is just phenomenal. Great job Avien, i totally dig this one.

Yeah, this is one of the few mixes that i've gotten off of the WIP boards that i really liked. I've been waiting for awhile for this to be finished, and now that it has, i'm glad to say that another great OCR has been submitted. Great job!

nice work man. Kinda on a peaceful side.
Suggestion: Bring it back as an extended mix. Add a little more to the instrumentation. A LITTLE MORE! just to get a smooth jazz feeling.
9/10 for creativity and style. :)

Ah! why are there only 7 reviews? this is (IMO) one of the best mixes on the site. the keyboard/vibes/whatever is so lonely.

i cant critique this song because there's nothign wrong with it. i wish it were longer.

i love how the strings come in one at a time. the stereobass is great as well. PLEASE everybody download this song.

This is amazing...it really really is.
The instrument at the very begining (vibraphone?) is really good...nicely chosen.

The strings make it beautiful as well...I really like it so much ^_^

The only gripe I have is sometimes the bass is overpowering...specifically when it plays on its own.

Nevertheless, this is a really good track.

Incredible, smooth and strident but introspective. Reminds me a lot of 100 Billion Stars by Lux (Windows media sample) (http://hurl.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurl.exe?clipid=029544101060006550&cid=600007) (RealAudio sample) (http://www.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurl.exe?~sss-600007/0295441_0106_00_0002.ra), and that's a very very good thing. This track feels like a more upbeat version of Lux's masterpiece and I have nothing but praise for it. One of the most balanced and mood-setting ReMixes on this site.

Maybe this is just me, but I actually lost my breath in the first 30 seconds of this song--truly beautiful. If only it were longer.

Streets of rage 2, always has and WILL Be forever, my favorite SEGA Genesis game, and i don't think that i'm alone with this one.. This one to me almost seems like a dream, the kind that you don't ever want to end, but you enjoy it so much that it ends so suddenly that you are just like "nooo"
Basically 'Avien' the remix rocks, It stays True Throughout the whole thing, brings me back to the era of Streets of rage 2 which to me is a memoir because the first day i beat that game, was the day one of my brother's were born.. So Anyway.. yea this remix rocks..

Incredibly brilliant but a little on the short side. This mix kinda makes you sad and happy at the same time

Can anyone guess what I'm about to say about this track? That's right -- TOO DAMN SHORT! *sigh* But, for what we have, this definatly deserves some major props. Well done. I really can't find any flaws musically speaking at all... I will however, request that the remixer post an extended version! 9/10 (for shortness)

Simply gorgeous--I have nothing negative to say about this piece.

This song makes me want to cry and smile and spray my shorts all in two minutes.

As Orkybash said over 2 years ago, I think the length here works. It sets a mood and gets its message across--demanding 'more development' is asking for a different song. And if it were simply longer, without additional material/development, it would drag on too long, and lose some of its impact.

One of the best (and most underrated) OCR songs there is....10/10.

Wow. After listening to the original and your choices in terms of remixing this piece, there is no comparison. I love the arrangement; there is a real sense of underlying warmth in the remix that Koshiro, because of technological limitations, could not put in the original. Unbelievable.

Would you ever consider remixing "Dreamer" from SOR2? That song rules, and I think, considering your work on "DaStreets" and "Slow Moon Groove," you'd do the best song in SOR2 justice, Avien.

Avien passed away in September of last year. More information (including the ability to go to Chris's guestbook to leave condolences) is available in the writeup of "Club Del Toro." (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01254/)

This is one of the first songs that I ever downloaded from OCR, and it really opened my eyes. When I first got here it was by a link to Game Over's "Little Mac's Confession" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00605/). I then naturally moved onto remixes of game music that I remembered from my childhood, namely Sonic and Streets of Rage. The second song I got was "Lightning Star" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00459/) by JAXX which is of course an amazing song, but it was the third song I downloaded that really made me realize that OCR was my new online home. As you've probably already guessed, that song was "Slow Motion Groove" by Avien. This song had a huge effect on me because while the other two songs are amazing they're the type of music I already listened to constantly. "Slow Motion Groove" forced me to take a more open minded approach to music in general to the point where I can now honestly say that I enjoy every genre of music to some extent. Without "Slow Motion Groove" I probably wouldn't have stayed on OCR. Without Avien, there'd be no reelmojo and there'd be no PRC. That statement may not be significant to some, but to me it's huge. This is easily the one song from OCR that has had the most impact on my life. It's a shame that I never got to tell Avien that myself.

I should have commented specifically on the track years ago when I mentioned Chris's passing, because this one was also one of my favorites when it was posted. Final Fantasy 3 "Winds of Eternity" was also a classic favorite of mine.

The opening bassline was incredibly sexy, and I loved the warping effect on it from :38-:47 as a transition into the source melody. The string work afterward was also really beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is something analogous to mv's material. I wouldn't have disagreed if someone has told me it was a collab between the two.

It's unfortunate that Chris passed away, as I would have loved to have heard more material from him and follow his musical development. He mostly phased out of the community years before the car accident that took his life, but what you have here in his final OC ReMix were all the hallmarks of a sophisticated, creative arranger.

This is such a relaxing, smooth song. Makes me just unwind. Avien was clearly a very talented person. The world is a nicer place for his having shared with us things like this before his passing.

Beautiful sounds used here, beautiful, nostalgic, and a bit melancholy, but still with a purpose, this track has great drive. I can tell why SoR has such a reputation for great music, if the mixes are of this caliber. Nice string touches, and and ambient effects to match a solid bassline and understated percussion.

There's so much to like about this track, pick it up.

Hey djpretzel, here's the contemporary car commercial you talked about.

I gotta say, the music sure teases w/ it's brief length, but it's perfect for the car commercial.

parents, don't let this happen to your children: make sure great ReMixes are developed and nurtured and reach full growth before sprouting.

hahaha. that made me laugh. anyways.....

Avien shows some improvement over his last mixes (which are still some of my favorites) with a cleaner production and much more chord movement. I think the title describes the mix very well: it's a good chill-out type groove with some neat instrumentation.
