Zelda 3 'Fragments of Gold'

Best rendition of the Dark World theme yet. Well thought out, well arranged, and well produced. Ending's a tad abrupt, but that's forgivable when the rest is this good.

This is easily my favorite version of the darkworld theme. All hail the new dark lord, Beej.

oh yeah. This one. Loved it back on Vgmix and love it here. Just didn't realize that was the title of it. I can't really think of anything to say about this because it's just so damn good, and usually I like to point out what's wrong with things because I take some sadistic pleasure in making everyone else's life miserable or something, I don't know. Congrats Beej. Nice work.

This theme is quite well done. It made an enjoyable remix out of a theme which I only slightly liked to begin with.

Good job! 8) 8)

The synth lead, and just all that accompanied it had a strong feeling behind it. I like it a lot, twas well done. Even the ending.

I'm gonna go completely against everyone here, because I really do not like this one at all. I like some other stuff by Beej, so it's nothing personal, but this almost ruins one of my favorite vg themes. Maybe it's just because I didn't envision this style for the remix, and maybe it's just because I don't like the style, but whatever it is, I don't like this remix. And I'm not sure why people say that this is the best rendition of the Darkworld theme, since there are two great ones from AmIEvil and Gux, but whatever...

(On a side note, I don't think me and Rob Saunders like any of the same vg music).

I've been waiting for this one...
It's good, but not really what I expected...
Actually, that's probably why I like it. :D

This has to be one of the best Zelda theme remixes I've heard in a while ...
The beat keeps going back and forth ... its quite impressive and consistently good from start to finish ...
Nicely done!

Holy crap, I've had this mix for almost a year and I just now am listening to it. I can't believe that this is actually a Dark World remix. Excellent! Dark World is easily the best Zelda song ever (the Main Theme comes close though). This is a solid electronic arrangement that stays very close to the ogininal though manages to stay fresh and give it a surge of power. Great stuff! :D

wow, it seems that i'm not the only one who somehow downloaded this song and didn't even realize i had it. according to my playlist, it has been played 10 times, but i do not remember hearing it once. furthermore, i have always liked beej's stuff from vgmix. somehow, i didn't even realize he had a song on ocr until i saw his name on the remixer's list. wtf.

either way, this mix is no less than awesome. there is really nothing bad that i can think of saying. furthermore, i think djp was correct when he said that this mix was just the right length.

great stuff by beej. anyone who likes this mix should really try to get their hands on his other stuff as well.

For some reason, this mix sounds like it could be the credits theme for some random Genesis game. In a good way. Really cool mix.

Catchy comes to mind. It follows pretty much the same guidelines as the original, with a few twists here and there. The intro starting off with the original power-on sound of the game adds a nice touch, leading to one of the best remixes for the game. Hard to describe, download it for a fun song to listen to. It's one that's in my regular listening rotation. Seems simple at first, but definitely good for a fan of the game. 8.5/10

Oh yeah! I have a hard time not dancing when I listen to this one, and I don't dance, so that's really something. It's taken a tune that I didn't like that much in the game, and turned it into something really cool.

My only problem is the ending. There's not really one, it just suddenly ends.

It seems alot of people like this mix, it's no doubt why. Extremely catchy, tons of excellent mixing effects and an extremely sexy synth! It may sound a little warehouse and short but still awesome!
Some cool little effects and parts at 0:18, 0:34, 0:51 and at 1:00 to 1:20, the best part in the song! I don't what beej did there but he just makes the synth feel like its reaching out

fuckin eh.. too bad this is the only song by beej here

Ah yes, the good ol' chiptune sound of music, gotta love it.

Well this is a pretty awesome remix, I seem to be listening to it on repeat to listen for any parts that could of been made better. Can't really hear anything that needs improving. Also I love the intro with the little beep, then as its progressing into the full blow song, pretty awesome pause type thing at 0:16, then the main melody comes in, thats where the real chiptune sound hit me. Pretty nice alteration of the melody at 0:51. Beej, you did an awesome job at this remix and it must of taken you awhile. Good luck on future remixes in the future.

One of my favourite Zelda songs.
Did a good job on this one, can get extremly addicting in short periods.
To many jazz and no good overworld remixes (That I like, And I don't like jazz personaly, they did a good work on the songs but theyr not my taste.)

Great remix.

Of all the remixes for the dark world in Link to the Past, I think this one is the best. Probably because out of all of them, this one seems to stay closest to the original. My only issue with it is that it just isn't long enough. beej could have taken that raise in octave for an entire loop, and then ended it, but he didn't. Otherwise this song is perfect. Great work. Totally infinite loop worthy.

I like all the electronic patchwork that was done in this remix. Great vibrato queues, and lead instrument.

Only regret is that it was too short, and there could have been some improv to lengthen it...

Otherwise, it sounds awesome!

This is like sonic and zelda mixed together. A feat thought impossible, surely you have shown that the 2 are mixable. Great work.

This is a really enjoyable remix to the darkworld theme. But, besides the ending of course, I dont see how this is much different from the original, melody-wise. anyone wanna explain to me? (sorry, im definitely noob)

This is like, a perfect mix of Zelda and Sonic. I keep thinking, either, the best new track for the PSO Lobbies or like a Robotnik Palace. This is truly a mix to behold. Kind of like, my favorite mix.

Woah! Really cool elements in there. My fav is the 8-bit sound that was something sounding like a guitar solo. Real retro but very nicely composed. Should be proud of this one.

Can't believe I haven't commented on this yet. This is one of my favorite mixes on the site, and has been since I first heard it some 6 or 7 years ago. I would really like to hear some more of your stuff, if you have any.

this is one of my favorite remixes on the site - one of the few that really inspired me to get into remixing myself.

it's so good... i've always wished beej would come back with more.

Simplistic and unambitious, but definately a case of less is more. There is a very limited amount of straying in this, and there's positively no oomph factor anywhere to be found, but this has a certain something that makes me a fan. For one, the little amount of arrangement it provides comes in at very opportune, very wisely plotted moments to keep me satisfied. A 100% midi cover this is not. The alterations are never severe, but they kept me from getting grumpy, so that has to count for something.
I do think that this mix only starts to get really interesting in it's last thirty seconds, but hey, I like the basic approach, the less-is-more attitude and I'm actually really liking the synths used. An exercise in effecvtiveness vs restraint, and a rewarding one at that.

Short and sweet, with some cool adjustments to a classic theme. It doesn't really go outside of the box, but does a very respectable job of coloring in the lines.

The ending was weak, but the rest was very enjoyable. :-)

I absolutely love this mix, and it stands as one of my favorites on the entire site. The synths are just perfect, and it has a wonderful techno style without all of the extreme repetition so prevalent in the genre. Short, sweet, and all around awesome. Also, the opening is boss.

Yup, it's a cool track. It was one of my favorites when I had just found ocr, and is still a gem. (you should post in the remix' review thread next time (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=832), now the mods have to move it)

It sounds like you mixed Mega Man and Zelda together! If i heard this playing mega man i would never know it wasn't game music.

Ah yes, the classic 'Dark World' ReMix to which all others are compared to. This is hot stuff. Everything comes together very nicely with a unique sound that is definitely worth a repeat. Pay close attention to the programming. There is a LOT going on. The source tune already has great transitions, but it takes real talent to make those transitions in a new sound scape such as this, and beej has done it masterfully.
