The remixing stage is over. The voting stage has begun! To cast your vote, you send me a PM and in that PM you place all entries from first to third. Contestants don't need to rank their own material as they will automatically get a first place vote. The winner of PRC89 (Villainelle) has a vote that counts twice. You have until Wednesday, March 28th at 4:59AM EST to make your decision. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC91!

The People's Remix Competition 90
PRCv4-12

Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) Star Fox 64 was our choice of game for PRC89, but not even the entries were just as quantified (is that a word?) as the amount of times the phrase "Do a Barrel Roll" was exclaimed in the game. Nonetheless, Villainelle pulled through as the competition's winner with her first foray into FL; hopefully we'll see her keep using whatever tools she has to polish up her skills in the coming months.

For PRC90, we're heading all the way to the mid 1980s via a game that had its origins on the Apple Macintosh and later transferred to the NES several years later. This competition, we're playing detective!

The first time I played this I was 8 or 9 years old, and afterward had plenty of nightmares about alligators in the sewers to punish my curiosity. Being from Chicago, I thought it was very cool that the game took place there back in the swingin', late Capone era, pinstripe-suit and fedora-wearing gangsta 1940's. What was most memorable about the game, though, was the great jazz/blues soundtrack. This song is the first one you hear when you start a new game and wake up with amnesia in a men's room stall.

It's a fairly basic jazz tune that should give wide opportunity for remixers to improv over and reinterpet.

It's been a long time since we had chiptunes in this PRC. I wonder what we can make of this one...?

GOOD LUCK!

Fine Print:
PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness.
There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed.
Entries must be posted in this thread by NEXT SATURDAY, March 24th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. Alternatively, you can also email your submissions over to submission@doulifee.com, though it would also help if you put forward a reminder in the thread.
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix.
Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted.
The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double.
Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.

The quality of this source tune amazes me...

I'm a sucker for catchy melodies and interesting chord progressions...but I don't know what to do with this, we'll see.

I definitely don't hate it. Also, the work tests I was using as an excuse for a lack of involvement for the last month or so are done (and was worth it, I got a raise) so maybe I'll turn out for this one.

Oh, and if I do, my singing is nearly guaranteed.

You guys know why Karl never sings?

He's the oldest person on record having not fully acheived puberty. His voice still cracks at 27.

I really wish these threads could be posted in the general community forum. If I had seen this earlier I might have joined. :/

It's not so much that I haven't acheived puberty yet ... it's more the fact that I haven't got testicles.

Yeah; sorry about biting them off but you DID ask for it rough.

Well, this is getting tedious. We have eight hours left and not a single entry. I say we get to push people as much as possible but other than that, odds are we might be heading for time extension territory again.

I have a WIP..but it's only about a minute ten due to lack of time...I haven't been home at all this week.

Sorry Rexy. I was initially going to spend a lot of time on a PRC entry, but I'm now working on what will hopefully be my first remix to make it to the OCR site.

:(

It's too bad we can't get this on the Community forum (or can we? I know Malcos advertised the VOCR comp there).

I made a wip yesterday, about 3 minutes long, but.. I didn't like it too much so I don't think I'll finish it.

I'll submit it later when i get home.
(and this time I wasn't lazy, I just haven't mixed anything in the past 2 weeks cuz I had no free time)

EDIT:Sadorf is a good man when he's not plotting to murder you in your sleep.

Still at least it's better than nothing. Do you want it to be shown as a voteable entry though? I just want to make sure before we jump ahead.

Nonetheless I got an entry down. I wasn't planning on entering due to having a lot of stuff to do by Monday morning, but never mind that.

sure go ahead rexy. At least it's better than nothing, as you said. Besides, it's not horribly bad, just a tad.

Aww, I'll join in. I'm afraid all I have time for is an improvised performance on my keyboard, and I'm not exactly what one would call "good" at it... But I need to start PRC again and now's as good a time as any. Here it is:

The voting stage is over! And now, let's move onto the final results.

Total number of mixes - 3
Total number of votes - 8
Highest possible score - 24

Anorak and Sir Nuts have both settled for the runner-up spot with 14 points each.

And the winner of PRC90 is Rexy with 22 points!

This competition was pretty quiet o_O() but still, it would be nice if we can get a little bit more promotion. Though I'm worried if my posts could be ignored if I clutter the main Community forums. Either way, I have a firm idea for a source tune for this coming Friday, so get ready for it.

See you there, people :)
