Does anyone have a good sample? I'm talking BIG base drum, like the ones you hear in the Homeworld soundtrack (http://phytrepighlet.googlepages.com/bd.mp3). Heavy as hell and blowing everything away.

I suggest trying to get some taikos. Those are giant japanese (I think, plz correct me, if I'm wrong) bass drums.

Taikos will never outdo gran casas.
I have some gran casa samples but they aren't all that good.

Do u have the Orkester Sound Bank with Reason? They have a pretty decent taiko drum.

I bet it's going to be hard to find a sample that's exactly what you're looking for. I think your best bet would be to get one that's close (yeah, taikos are good) and just tweak the sample. (Envelopes, pitch, reverb, etc)

That homeworld stuff didn't sound like they were particularly wonderful samples actually. Sounded just kind of like an old Emu Proteus or something. It DID however sound like they had some great reverb dialed in on it, which you could really hear by virtue of there not being a ton of other stuff going on. So it's a matter of mixing and orchestration as much as it is one of sample quality I think. I think you could do even better though if you had a bass drum sample that included some natural hall reverb. If you can afford something like the Eastwest orchestra, then great! Otherwise, you might try a convolution reverb with an appropriate impulse sample (SIR is free!).
