What a mouthful of a title! But it seems that Capcom is releasing a completely redrawn HD version of SSF2T for XBL and PSN! Hopefully this will pave the way for a few other redrawn classics, but as it is this will be pretty awesome. Check out how it will look here:

I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited about this. I've played SSF2T to the point of being damn near tired of it. Couple that with the fact that this 13 year old game has been ported over and over again, and it's feeling a lot like rehash city. Sure, it's a neat idea, and God knows it's about time Capcom gave it a whirl... but why not do it to something that hasn't already been re-re-re-re-re-re-re-released? Better still, why not put all that effort into something new... like Darkstalkers 4?

Well, I'd like to see new games too, but it's something I'd definitely download for the online services, especially if online play is decent.

Cool. So how many SFII games are there now?

I think its 10

The pixel redraws are nice, but I'm wonder if they're going to add additional frames as well. If they make this as smooth as SF3 and tweak the hit detection, I'm sold.

Off the top of my head...

Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter II
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service
Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

And that doesn't even get into all the ports of a number of these entries.

I'd be happy if they just updated the graphics for DS. I mean seriously that Morgan sprite has NEVER been re-done. She looks so fucking out of place in every fricken game...

Also: it's my estimation that Capcom won't do anything new without sticking Ryu and Ken in there. Look at Street Fighter III. Totally original characters, totally original music, artwork, desperately needed new mechanics, and plotline but...shit, we can't start a new franchise! Hell just stick some SF2 characters in there, and call it SF3. Gold!

I'd actually look at this.
1) I've never played a SF game in my life.
2) It looks really nice, a graphical overhaul looks fresh for a newbie like me.

But I don't have either a X360 or a PS3. Ah well.

I'll probably get it. Just to have someone to kill some time with.

Well, that's overlooking all the Darkstalkers games, the fantastic Rival Schools/Project Justice series, Tech Romancer, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Red Earth, Cyberbots, the Power Stone series, Star Gladiator, Plasma Sword, the X-Men and Marvel fighters... There are plenty of non-SF Capcom fighters out there.

Also, wow:

Yeah, I thought they would redo her in CvS2, but apparently not. Her sprites are so out of place in that game especially.

As for new sprites? I thought that the Udon team was responsible for doing new art for the SS2T port to XBLA. That's going to be interesting. Though I do like Udon's art style, I don't know how well it will translate into game animations. I hope this will renew the SF competition though. Fighting games, though old, never really die unless people stop playing them.

I wanna see killer instinct up for downloads soon. Street fighter II's good and all but not if they constantly release it again and again.

I dont want a street fighter 4. All they can do is mess it up. And it will never live up to the expectations that people have for it.

There just isn't the fanbase for it. People complained about all the rehashes so Capcom up and made the best 2D fighter ever (SF3:TS), complete with an almost entirely new cast, great fighting system, some of the best 2D graphics ever, etc, and it... pretty much got ignored by most people. Then you have the nerve to ask for SF4!! Go rank in a SF3 tourny before you start complaining... A lot of people still play the game.

I love 3rd Strike because it proves that the series could progress after II and Alpha. Plus it's a really fucking awesome game.

I want to see Capcom try more things. Bring back more II/Alpha characters, introduce new characters. Age some characters, progress the story. There's always somewhere to go with Street Fighter.

I'm kinda excited for this just because now I won't have to play the really terrible Hyper Fighting port on XBL, and now Bison will actually be good in some online version

But yeah, Capcom just needs to make Project Justice 2, and then I'll be happy

A new Rival Schools game would be awesome as a 3D cel-shaded fighter. That series always had some awesome presentation.

I know this is a little off topic, but how come they don't do something like this for marvel vs capcom 3? I thought I heard this was in the works, but that was like five years ago. Is it ever gonna come out?

Ralphis

No because Capcom hasn't had the Marvel rights for years.

Nope. Direct port with new graphics.

Agreed! Great gameplay, too. Probably the best 3D Capcom fighter aside from Tech Romancer. I would be happy with straight ports of those to newer systems, but the Dreamcast makes both of those games look good enough to keep it hooked up to my TV at all times.

Maybe one day we will get Project Justice 2... We can only hope. That game had a great story as well, and the way the prefight dialogs decided your team structure was cool. I can't think of a fighter with a better story mode; most of the time it's just some generic tournament with some loose character relations/rivalries. The Rival Schools world is more more complex.

Didn't they already have a HD SF2 game for XBL a while ago? I'm amazed that they're making a franchise of high def SF games now... And they're even going after the anemic PC market while they're at it. Capcom has a few screws loose.

Well, even if it's SSFT2, I guess it's alright. It's basicly the same as KOF 98 getting a fresh coat of paint.

What expectations? All of the people i know weren't even aware that there was a Street Fighter 3!

When i showed them SF3, they were blown away though.

Hi everyone there yoh!

This is Karifantasy, an aspiring composer from far away ^^ "

Please tell, me (and please sorry if this question is damn stupid) but I really want to know if there is any chance to participate in the Street Fighter ReMixes of this XBOX relaease?

Are there any open possibilities? Can I just put one or two peaces of my Ryu's theme composition in some way? Can I put a micron of my creativity in it? Even if it's only 10 secs of music? Please tell me, It would be a dream come true, just tell me what to do, I'll do anything! LOL (hum, nearly anything ROFL" )

Wish you great days and successful creative pleasure moments : )

Karim.

From what I can tell, the soundtrack project was essentially invitation-only. And even if it weren't, you are waaaay late on the ball.

Yes. Content is often made ahead of time before its release date. After an official announcement. It's pretty much done and over with. Secondly, remixers selected for this opportunity were well established in the community and have contributed quality remixes.

But getting back on topic, what is everyone's take on SF2HD Remix Beta? I think you can only choose Ken and Ryu and only play in Ryu's stage. That kind of sucks, but I know some people on the site already have it.

KariFantasy

Thank you very much Katsurugu and Dhsu :)

Then all I have to do now, is create my own Street Fighter 4 clone conceptual project, then create original music for it, it would be more interesting for me I think.

When I start this project I'll notice you ;) (not quite the time for it right now, nor the team ^^")

Thanks again for your reply and have a cool day!

To be honest whenever i played the original live arcade SF2T, most matches i fought were Ryu V Ken or E honda (hundred hand slap spammers).

Overall though i think the beta was impressive and i'll no doubt buy the finished product when it's finally released.

Yeah. I think in SF2T you can slightly move backwards and forwards with E. Honda. That makes zoning really easy for you as you do the slap. I think that's so cheap... Anyway, all the characters are good. Sagat has his "old" Tiger Knee if anyone remembers that. It's not the dragon punch motion with kick any more. It's down to back and then up-forward and kick. The only changed it after Super Street Fighter 2. A good Blanka can leave you blocking most of the game while he just keeps chipping at your life bar. Chun is always good in most any game she's in. Standing light kick can stop Blanka's forward roll attack in its tracks if you time it right.
