Final Fantasy 7 'Otanjoubi Cid'
Erm.... well, I liked most of it. Specifically, I liked the part that was the incredibly crisp, well thought out trance that we get from Haroon. But that intro, well, ruined the song for me. There's only a certain amount of strangeness I can take from a remix before it becomes unlistenable, and for me that crossed the line.
But like I said, if the intro wasn't there it would be some really good trance.

I would have to say it is some pretty damn good trance, and yes the intro gets very annoying after awhile, but not annoying enough to wreck the rest of the song. Job well done.

I like the middle part but the first part is just annoying..if that was out then it would be perfect.

But the begining... I'll prolly just convert it to a wave and just remove it... lol

Orkybash hit it on the nose. The mix is good in whole, but the intro totally ruined it for me. Perhaps FFmusic Dj would be willing submit the same mix minus the intro? That would make the song so much better than it is IMHO.

I almost quit listening to it and deleted from my hard-drive when the intro was more than 20 secs. The intro hurts my first review...

I personally thought the intro was TIGHT! I love a little humor, as that was obviously what he was going for.....duh
It was great. Because after the little boy, this "evil" voice comes on a tells him to shut up, that's LAUGHS!! :D Then all of a sudden.....BOOM!!!! 8O LOUD HARD and KICKIN' ASS!!!!!! :D :D :D
I appreciatethis song very much, and I know it'll definitely be one of the great "Hard/Trances" out there.
P.S. Keep the intro, it totally throws you off-guard :D

The intro is what made it for me. I really think that something like that adds a little flavor to a good remix (and it IS a very good mix!!)

Um, I'm pretty sure he has a right to say whatever he wants. And no, OCR isn't a private service for one person's birthday. I doubt that was how ffmusicdj intended it. More of a dedication for one, but a song for all.
Anyways, the rest of the song kicks ass. No complaints about the music here.

Clearly, one of the greatest gems in all of OCR. Rich, and powerful, and built on the noblest of purposes; this ballad brings home the dilemma burning within Cid's heart: How to wish Barret a Happy Birthday without seeming like a sissy-pants.
I am the only one who sees where the intro was drawn from? Clearly inspired by Noriyuki Iwadare's work in Lunar: The Silver Star, that classic theme "Girl Who Won't Win Singing Contest." Brilliant.

Very nice, dispite the unexplainably bizzare intro. Really, just listen to the 20 seconds, you're missing a real gem. Of course, if FFDJ could send me a wav file... ;)

You know I was worried about the begining when I read the comments about it. But when I heard it I laughed my ass off! It's his piece of work, he shouldn't have to change it. I like it as it is, it gives it a different light-hearted feel to it.

Just thought I'd point out to frobnitz, Ebonyks, Christopher Blue, and anyone else: There are some programs (e.g. Unphuck) that you can use to chop off chunks of MP3s without decoding/recoding (which would result in a bit of sound quality loss). I'd recommend doing that instead of decoding to wav, etc. It'd be a shame to mess up the rest of the song at all.
As for the remix: Yes, the intro is kind of amusing once or twice, but not something I'd want to hear every time through the playlist. So, guess I'll just circumsize my copy. :) The rest of the song is quite good, nothing particularly wrong with it, though it doesn't really have much to make it stand out from all the other trance that exists in this world. But that doesn't keep it from being enjoyable. Nice and sonically dense, it is.

an indirect birthday gift from a complete stranger(I think)........ wow...
my birthday was on the 3rd, and I am now 16. Yay.
now, to the mix itself: the intro is a little bit bothering, after a few listens, so, I got the free program: mp3trim off the net, cut it at 16 seconds, and voilą!! It starts right after: "I'll sing it to you", right on the laa,la,la,laaaa,la,la,*skreech*,la,la-a-a-a-a thing. it now has a very prominent spot on my top playlist! :D :D :D
exeptional job Mr. FFmusicdj!

Yet another great contribution from the Haroon-meister!
The intro came totally out of left field, and kinda irks me, but it by no means ruins the song. I REALLY dig that deep, evil voice that kicks in.

Well, for me, all ffmusic dj's stuff just has a real definitive feel to me . . . Ever since I've first heard his work it's really grown on me. He does a great job with making a great trance tune, but he makes it so much more than that by the way he adds in the melody, and adds in the different shades to it, and just everything. Nothing's overwhelming, everything's got its place, and sees the spotlight. It's hard to explain.
Anyways. :D Another great song of his, if you ask me. The intro struck me as a little odd when I first heard it, but it kinda grew on me, and I don't mind it now. The rest of the song is just really awesome.

what is he, the kid, and the voice saying? I can't really hear
THIS IS SWEET ASS STUFF!
I never really looked into FFmusic Dj's music.. but one day I saw in the WIP forum that he made a corel prison remix. I desided to take a lisnin'
and to my surprise it bacame my favorite remix of all time. And since that song he has never let me down, EVER! HE'S ME HERO! (don't flame me for it)
Alright, as for the mix:
His percution is very tight, that is one thing that pops out the most. His remix dont just have that usual boom ti boom ti boom...he has the boom ti ti ti ta ti tit i boom titi ta tha..you get what I mean. And he uses nice percution samples as well.
As for the intro.. It wasn't annoying at first...very funny hehe (don't sing). But I had to cut it out after a while.
This mix is a nice peace o hard trance! FFmusic Dj has a style of his own. A style that ALOT of people love..including me. More people like his music than some one... I forget his name...
I simply... do not... understand what ... people like ... about his music.
ahem...
Well, keep up the AWSOME work, I'm looking forward to your next remixs!! And maybe even some stuff of your own?? (PM me about the stuff of your own thing...I want a tast)

I would just like to add my two cents. which have been added by other people so if you want an interesting review skip over mine.
Well i must say i can stand the intro either. if it was shorter i couldnt care less. but it is 20+ seconds long! the first 5 seconds it was mildly humourus. but 15 seconds later i was slamming my head into the keyboard. Good song though. great song. The beginning ruined it for me though. but i have already taken care of it. well there was my 4 half-cents. goodbye.

Heh, all of the comments about the "Happy Birthday" intro are funny to read. I sort of have mixed feelings on it. At first, I thought it was insanely stupid and wanted to delete the file immediately, but finally decided I kinda liked how the song did a 180 from retardedness to awesomeness.
It is certainly memorable, so I'll probably keep it. That "Happy Birthday" at the very end cracks me up every time, too.

OKAY
The bottom line here is:
This is some incredibly incredible trance work. Haroon is so awesome at filling out the entire stereo range with echoing synth leads and distorted backing basses and good stuff. This is... I mean... DAMMIT! You see, with Haroon, it seems that what he did was realize that since most of the Final Fantasy music is very anthemic, it makes for great Anthemic Trance. I mean, the melodies are formulaic for this kind of stuff, and he does a marvelous job at it. I might just have to give up on trance at the rate he's going ;)
EDIT: oh, and as for the intro, we aren't exactly supposed to like it. As he already said, it was designed to wish his friend a happy birthday, and that's that. Just chop it out if you don't like it 8O

Scratch another one down for the FF Trance master. I've been waiting for a dancey Cid theme mix for a bit, and this delivers, and delivers well. I don't know how he does it but if everyone knew it might not be as special. I especially like the melody in this mix, when it goes into the higher octave. That just....lifts me up I suppose. I love it.
My only gripe though, is the intro. It took me about five listenings to pick up what the person was actually saying...and even then I don't really fully understand it. Maybe if the intro was a bit shorter, to still keep the message but not put people off from the music... If I didn't care for Cid's Theme I almost certainly would have deleted this track after 12 seconds. But I didn't, and that was lucky. (Love that evil voice though... )
Overall, a great remix. If you don't like the intro don't let it put you off from the awesome stuff within.

Good, The Intro kinda confused me when I had my volume down but when I cranked it, I realized exactly what he said. Even though It wasn't hard to understand. But With that small little personal touch, It gives this Mix a more homely feel, at least to me personally. Other than that I like the mix as a whole, gotta love Cid's Theme.

Okay, for the slow among you, I made this account JUST to type out what he said, and finally put this to rest. Sorry if I come up harsh, but I absolutely adore this remix, and I thought the intro was pretty clever, even if it was a bit... odd?
"Hey buddy, happy birthday! Guess what?! I made ya a remix of... Cid's theme! Let me sing it for you! .... *odd singing ahoy, including some clipping!*"
I can't make out the next part, but I THINK it's...
"You really think I'd remix like this? Hell no..."
That about cover it?
I love the remix, just another sweet addition to my game trance collection.. and I thought it was a girl with some high-pitched voice who did that intro... well..i did thought

Once again, Haroon pulls it off. Amazing trance, absolutely amazing. He may have even surpassed his BoF remix, and that was pants-wettingly awesome. The intro is, well, questionable... but that's for Otanjoubi to decide, not me.
And if you'll notice, one can not only easily amputate the intro (as soon as it starts clipping), but the "Happy birthday!" at the end is sufficiently spaced from the end of the music to allow for removal. So quit complaining. You can do it with free software, if you're that adamant.
Or you can drive around town in a convertible with the volume way up, with just the intro burned onto one track of a CD, set to repeat. See how many chicks you can pick up.
Honestly, though, phenomenal work. The attention to detail is obvious.

Actually, I love the intro thing.. Doesn't take away from the song at all :D I thought the bass needed to be slightly extended or something when I first heard it, because I felt it cut off a little too early. It just grew in me so I'll definetely keep this one. The remix is wonderful!

Any remix that can make me laugh AND has replayability gets a definite vote from me. I guess on this one it depends on your sense of humor whether you liked the intro or not. (Not saying that if you have a bad sense of humor you won't, but if it's just not your piece of pie.)
I really liked the cut into the rest of the song from the intro. I like how I can be sitting here in the middle of browing the 'net or typing something and all of a sudden I hear this goofy voice that breaks away from whatever I was listening to before, makes me laugh, and then cuts into a really good remix.
Not one I'd keep on my playlist for long because it is the type of remix that can get old fast, but something to occasionally put in there when everything else gets tiresome.

People, relax. The intro isn't that long, at least not compared to the rest of the song, which doth verily KICK ASS, if you'll pardon mine French.
I think this one's a breath of fresh air. The silliness of the intro really does make a lot of difference in the attitude of the song itself. Without it, the song might...MIGHT...have become just another good technotrance number. But it does stand on its own very well, especially in the latter half of the song. With the intro/closing, it makes for a great blend of replay value (for the techno-y goodness of the mix!) and just plain silliness.

The only problem I see with the intro is that it takes that much longer to get to the actual song, which is an incredible piece of music. It's not that weird, but pretty funny if you ask me. So if you don't like it, cut it off. Otherwise, just leave it. Any way you look at it the song is great and a worthy addition to anyone's music collection.

Protricity! My main man! I'm sorry that absolutely no one in this thread agrees with you, but I've come to change that. I really can't get into any of FFDJ's stuff. It all just irks me. So much of all of his songs is just "THUD THUD THUD"... ugh. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one who thinks that way.
As for Otanjoubi Cid? Blah. Follows the usual format. I can't get into it. I didn't think the intro was funny, and just imagining having to hear it every time this song (that I don't particularly care for in the first place) plays makes me cringe. As for the defenders of the intro, it is most definitely longer than 20 seconds. Winamp does have an elapsed time display. Use it.
I haven't liked anything of FFDJ's since CC Time Scars and FF4 Ground Up. At least those have no overpowering thudding sounds and no distinct sonic qualities that make me shudder.
Protricity, I absolutely love some of your stuff. You're one of the best at extending songs beyond the original melody without stinking it up in the process. Please stop punishing us for FFDJ's music and submit something new! I've missed you!
In closing, Cursed Pirates of the Sea broke my jaw. It's that good.

More of the same from me...
I really like the track...the synths and stuff are good, yes indeed.
However, like most everyone else, the intro kinda spoils it (especially being so hard to cut out without COMPLETLEY ruining the track)
I also think the drums could have done with a little variation...
how this could be achieved exactly I dont know, but after a while the thump-thump-thump kinda gets annoying.
also the ending is kinda bad...Im not entirley sure how this thing could end, but the abrupt stop with the echoed 'happy birthday' is just...no.
I must say, though, when I played in a set, the people really liked it...so you can certainly dance to this one and not have any major prollems with it that way...
I won't let the intro/ending make up 50% of my argument, all I'll say is that it's an aquirred taste, but it is NOT the remix.
Elsewise, upbeat trance track which when in the mood I like. I never was a great fan of Cid's Theme, but this ReMix does it justice. He didn't just take the piece and remake it with trance beats. But beware, if you don't like trance, it is highly unlikely that this track will change minds. I can see why some people like FFmusicdj's stuff. It's what brought me to the site (a certain Jenova ReMix (http://remix.overclocked.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00726)). But nowadays it doesn't float my boat.
But good trance tune. Not FFmusicdj's best, but up to scratch.

I don't understand. I liked the beginning- yea, it was different :D , but thats what I liked about it. Its the kind of thing that you can just turn up, randomly, and and it'll make your family and friends ask, "where's that noise is coming from?". The intro did detract a little from the actual song but I'm glad it was in the beginning instead of the middle or end.
Anyway, I couldn't even remember Cid's Theme until I heard it from Otanjoubi Cid. Once I started to remember I became fully immersed into this song. I definately like this song and its presentation.

Other than what I will say is the coolest intro I've yet to hear here on OCR, this mix also has some strange, cosmic link to me, as my birthday, incidentally, is November 3rd. Weird.
Anyway, this mix has alot going for it. I don't think this is a good song to get people into trance though, as said before, it's an aquired taste. The upbeat feeling is also sort of dimished with the repetitiion, but over all is a good piece.

And you never will...
I still cannot think of how FFMDJ managed to make such a bright voice in the beginning, but hey, the remix is all good. This is a full-speed techno/trance/disco madness remix, and I found it very great. He used some popular synths that some of us recognize from other trance hits, but that doesn“t mean you can still use them. May be a little repetive, but it was first at the third time I noticed that. Nice stuff FFMDJ, Cid deserved to let some out.

What can I say? This is techno at its best! You keep the party going while still maintaining the grand elaborate tune that is Cid's theme. That was an interesting incorporation (for lack of a better term) of that voice at the beginning into the mix. Overall, gotta love it.

I don't see what the problem with the intro is, to be perfectly honest, it cheers me up every time I hear it. In fact, if I'm ever feeling down, I know what to listen to now. It's a great laugh, and it definately adds to the overall happy-go lucky feel of the song. You've definately got guts, that much I can tell you. How you pulled off that high pitched voice is beyond me, and with the silly attempt at a southern accent - well, what else can I say, it's an instant classic with me. Besides that, the music itself is just a good of a listen. Turn your nose to those who can't take a joke and keep making some great trance music. ^^

I love the intro to this remix. it made me laugh. Then theres that bass kick, which is awesome. but my favorite part has to be the actual synth line of cid's theme, when it get's mixed in with everything else.
When an anthemic song like Cid's is molded in the sweeping style of trance, it's the epitome of "emotionally charged." This mix seems to illustrate Cid's hopes and dreams in a larger-than-life scenario, kinda like this...
1:08 - The sweeps set the stage: the sky. Infinite, changing, looming... and out of reach.
1:49 - Cid has his sights on the sky, determination growing in his heart.
2:18 - He prepares and revs up the Highwind...
2:47 - ...and it takes off, rapidly gaining air and speed.
3:14 - Pilot and airship glide all around the world.
3:42 - Another round-trip commences...
3:55 - ...and the pilot pushes his vehicle into hyperdrive. Pigeons and seagulls perish in the spinning blades of death. But Cid pays them no mind as he stands on the airship's carapace.
4:22 - As the Highwind flies higher and faster than before, Cid LEAPS with the most majestic Dragoon jump ever, piercing clouds with his spear and reaching outer space in a superhuman ball of fire. From the ground, one can see him briefly shine and fade like a star.
In sum, FFmusic Dj boosts the source's potential so naturally it becomes ever more solid and epic.
(Also, if you listen closely, that Southern falsetto is singing the first 9 notes of Cid's theme. Just so you know.)

It's such a shame that the intro to this mix, which really has nothing to do with the music itself, has garnered most of the attention of listeners over the years. Because really, this is all about the music. It's amazing, addictive trance. FFMusic Dj proves he is a well-oiled techno machine that pumps out pristine product like noone else.
Very melodic output done very well. It's a heavyweight theme given the heavyweight treatment, which is bound to not be what everyone is after. And yeah, it's probably right to point out it has a fairly oddball-esque segregated intro. Which I happen to enjoy and get a smile over every time I hear it. But to let a non-contextual prologue deflate your positivity towards this excellent mix would be a big mistake, not to mention idiotic beyond belief.
This mix deserves better than to be sideshowed.
I loved the birthday wish at the beginning, and the track itself was really nice- I love the source that is really enthusiastic and bombastic, and this mix really does it justice. I would like to hear the lead instrument switched up a little, maybe pass it off to a twinkling piano or something for a bit, but overall I really enjoyed this track. Great work! :D
