Hi all,

I've begun an interesting participatory music project called The Fake RPG Soundtrack Project. I'm writing a series of songs which will make up the "soundtrack" to an RPG that doesn't actually exist in the real world. The interesting part is that I would like YOU to write the plot. Each song describes a certain aspect/plot point of the RPG, and I want visitors to write small narratives which will go along with them.

I thought that many of you might be interested in listening and participating. Check it out, and help spread the word!

http://www.zhaymusic.com/fakerpg/
Thank you.

Bonus points to all who appreciate the thread title.

There must be hundreds, thousands of examples, but this is all I can think of at the moment (as I'm currently addicted): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR0jn8B6iJk. Skip to 0:45 for the growling (edit: it's the trumpets I'm talking about).

Is that some form of muting (and manipulation of the muting device)?

Yes I know that I should know this, but I don't. Help is appreciated.

Taken from Wikipedia:
"Machinarium is a puzzle video game developed by Amanita Design. It was released on October 16, 2009 for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. PC and Mac demos were made available on 30th September 2009.
Gameplay
The goal of Machinarium is to solve a series of puzzles and brain teasers. The puzzles are linked together by an overworld consisting of a traditional "point and click" adventure story. The overworld's most radical departure is that only objects within the player character's reach can be clicked on.

Machinarium is notable in that it contains no dialogue, neither spoken nor written. The game instead uses a system of animated thought bubbles.

Development

Machinarium was developed over a period of three years, by seven Czech developers, who financed the project with their own savings. The marketing budget for the game was a scant $1,000.

Reception

Machinarium won the Excellence in Visual Art award at the 12th Annual Independent Games Festival.[7] The game has received generally favorable reviews from critics, achieving a Metacritic score of 85.

Vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xkhqVKJGHg

If you havenīt,try it, you wonīt be dissapointed.
http://machinarium.net/demo/

Awesome gameplay, awesome graphics and awesome music, what else do you need to play it?! go get it!

After 5 months of blood, sweat, and tears (mostly tears because nobody understands what a 'deadline' is), OverLooked ReMiX proudly presents our latest site project, OLRville - Tunes for the Road!

The album is a collection of different town/city themes, done in the traditional OverLooked style of making blood flow from your ears while you listen. 8 tracks of ReMiXy goodness from guys like Brunzolaitis, Zimish One, and nesper!

Click the picture (or follow the link -> http://olrville.olremix.org) and grab the .zip if you want everything, or have a taste-test with the songs first! And if you are feeling so bold, leave some comments in the official thread: http://olremix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8859

You can give your props to Zimish One (aka POCKETMAN in some places), as he is the project coordinator and I don't even know which site project this is for him...probably his 6th or so.

(also, this is an announcement that our queue is fixed, so you can submit songs again! yay!)

After the first slow round, we have now more sources as entries in the last round. OneUp, as winner from PRC158, and Diotrans, winner from PRC156, both submitted a source.
This means if you don't like one source, you can select the second one. Last round OneUp won by default (with a nice remix), now I want to see more competition with more entries.

PRC Classic of the two weeks
The classic of this round is PRC15. It's been a long time ago since Jeremy Robson won this round. The source was Mushroom Kingdom from Super Mario RPG. 6 Remixers submitted a song including one Bonus Mix from Azar. The Orchicalcon, one of the legends from PRC and ORC, took the last place.
Chockster37 and Bladiator ended fourth and third. Reactor Zer0 entered that round as well, claiming second place. The victory was for Jeremy Robson wih The Mushroom Wedding.
If this takes off, computers will never be the same. I can't do without my desktop programs yet, but it's exciting to see more things moving to the cloud.
I'm pumped to be able to log in to my computer from anybody's hardware too, although I suppose I'll need to call it something else now, my personal cloud I guess. Check out the videos.
Did I mention it's open source?
Now, what I want to do is compose music around that, but I find that I have BPM problems later on. Measures don't line up right and by the end, it's a big mess of crap.
So, is there any way to have the WAV play at a certain BPM so I can arrange music around it without it getting off track?

Hey, all! I'm trying to submit some music to a few graduate schools, but one of the places I'm looking into requires decent recordings of my music. For the most part I have that covered... however, one of the pieces (a woodwind quintet) that I want to submit doesn't have a very good recording, unfortunately.

Would anyone be willing to run it through a good sound font (I mean a pretty realistic one, not a free one like I use, unfortunately) so I can have something decent to submit? I've got about a week and a half to get it in by, and while I've done everything else for this college I don't have this one recording :(.

I have it in Sibelius form and Midi form; if you're interested please send me a pm (no offense, but the material is a bit too sensitive for me to post publicly).

Thanks!

It was a great addition to my collection... not to mention a rare one, kind of like the remixes I am trying to find 8-O

Howdy folks,

I'm considering releasing my next album (February-ish, hopefully) in a different way than I have before. I've always released several tracks from my albums as free single downloads, usually at a medium bitrate, but I'm considering releasing the full, or mostly complete album as a free download, and offering high-quality copies as a pay what you want (above $0) download.

I'm curious on your honest thoughts on this.

While I'm pretty sure I'm going to do something like this, I have some ideas for slightly "handicapping" the free version, and I'd like to know how much these things would piss off people vs how much it would make them want to grab the full versions.

ideas for handicapping the free version:

1) Medium bitrate mp3's. I'm thinking 160kbps CBR. Full version can be had in either 320kbps mp3 or FLAC lossless.

2) Album art image tags have a little "free" image in the corner.

3) Some songs in the free version are a minute or two shorter than the full versions in the paid copies.

4) A couple guest remixes are only available in the paid version. Perhaps samples would be included in the free version.

5) Some or all tracks have a 10 second spoken message overlaid in the beginnings or ends of the song mentioning you are listening to the free version and you can buy it at iTunes, Amazon mp3, protagonistrecords.net etc. OR, these messages could be their own separate mp3's. I've seen this done with one of the recent Celldweller albums where the free copy was sponsored by Tomb Raider Underworld. A sexy english woman's voice would come on quickly in the beginning of the song to say it was sponsored by the game. It wasn't terribly annoying, but it always reminded me that I was being a cheapass and still listening to the free version.

I'm pretty sure I'll be doing at least numbers 1 and 2.

This seems like a trade-off between: Being extremely generous, creating the urge in listeners to go buy the full versions as more of a thank-you tip than something they really want, OR: Limiting the free version to make it more of an advertisement for a product they want enough to pay for the full version without annoyances.

What do you think? I'm interested in the perspectives of people here who DO produce and sell their music, people who are just listeners and are already fans of mine, and people who don't know who I am. Thanks.
