Chrono Trigger - '600AD'

Hello,

New mix of 600AD. I'm not sure what genre really - probably dubstep, even though I am way past being down with the kids enough to make that sort of music.

Enjoy (it's not mastered yet)

I like it. It's a nice dub-step rendition that I think is unique. I like the beginning, but you might try going softer on the chip tune aspect and then crescendo as it progresses. I hope to hear more of this though.

Wow!!

It is very promising!! I'd like to hear more presence on the kick and snare!

Don't stop!

Great stuff! Love what you've got going so far. Not too sold on the intro, but the dubstep part is awesome.

Wow! Absolutely stunning! It always warms my heart when someone makes a good dubstep mix while avoiding sounding awfully generic.

I suggest to smooth out the transition between the flute/xylophone and the chiptune synth at 0:16. Although both parts are nice, the switch from the natural sounds to the fake is too rough. Maybe throw in an extra bar there, where you hint at the upcoming chippy-ness.

Also, like Dan mentioned, the kick and snare need just a bit more presence.

The roll at the end could use a slightly different snare, and some (more?) humanization at that.

Overall, it's very unique while not too obscure-sounding. I'm definitely looking forward to more of this.

This is pretty great, but those "real" instruments sound way too fake, especially the staccato (strings?).
I also agree that the chiptune could be introduced more fluidly.
After that everything is wonderful .

Really interesting and original arrangement. I love the progression from winds/xylo to chiptune to dubstep. The ideas are all there, and the execution on the dubstep section is really great.

Areas to work on would be the wind section over all... I'm not sold on the samples, though maybe you could finesse them in the mix. The staccato articulation also sounds a little abrupt (I know... thank you "Captain Obvious").

The chiptune section is pretty cool. I'd just keep it down a bit for contrast, so that you can do a bigger ramp up into the dubstep section; let it come in huge and really blow us away.

Definitely keep going with this. Was a pleasure to listen to so far.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've updated it a little, cut out a bit at the beginning. To be honest, this was more an experiment - I'm not sure where to go with this. If anyone has an inkling as to how to improve it drop me a line!

Very cool, definitely like it so far.

As far as where to go with it, personally I'd love to see some of the instruments from the intro come back on top of the dubstep, as I really enjoy a mix of traditional and electronic instruments.
