Well it's about time :D . I'm glad GL told me about this song some time ago. It sounlds very Professional. Very well planned and those bells come in at all the right place's. The base is awsome as well. I play this song all the time in the car. Yet another brillant song from Gray Lightning. A must Download.

I'm not gonna review this one with the heavy critique style of VGMix.

Larry: "Ah, the very familiar Silent Zone theme!"
Gray: [shakes head]
:P

I remember the controversy the older version of this song had, and I honestly felt the judges had validity in asking for a resubmission. Despite the heated arguement by both supporters and detractors of the track's rejection, I'm really glad GL decided to take another look at this mix and apply his significant skills even further to come out with this updated submission. The track's far more impressive (the increased choir emphasis creates a significantly fuller feel, as well as the low-key, yet ever-present bassline), more indicative of Gray's mixing talents and a genuine keeper for me this time.

I'm also glad that GL himself feels more strongly for the track now that he's gone through the added effort of reworking it, instead of simply feeling that it would now make it through the judges' panel. And the work's really paid off with some well-deserved straight-to-postage action (I told you, Gray )! A quality revision, to say the very, very least. Congradulations on the hard work, Gray! You da man!

In my time as a lurker, i never came across the previous ver of this song, Im very fond of this one though. This song is somthing I could easily sleep to at night, if i left it playing. I like the subtle but firm presence of the dezo theme announcing itself, stating its existance while not being overbearing.

I think my favorite thing about this is the choir sample... some of the best I've heard :P
It's easy and enjoyable to listen to... I'm not sure there's enough here for me to call it your *most* enjoyable piece :P It's certainly up there with your best, but the GL stuff I personally like best is the stuff I can just listen to and zone out and go to a happy place :P There's a little too much "impact" here for me to do that, so I'm a little torn between listening with my ears and listening with my heart; it's hard to do either completely here. Though again, I looove the choir sample :P And it certainly shows progression of your ever-improving technical skills.
Also, maybe there could've been a bit more going on here; a few new instruments to spice things up and keep it fresh.
8.4/10!

It's good to see that this revision *finally* made it onto OCR, I was beginning to wonder....

All I can really say is Damn. This is by far your best piece to date, IMO (DS still has that special place in my heart though, nothing can ever take it away either ). Compared to the first version, which I liked, this version is almost uncomparable, I mean, it's so much better than the first version I can't believe it's the same song. The first version was good, but this is EXCELLENT. The drums were a little harsh and forced in the original, but this has changed the drums slightly I think (if not, just made em quieter). It seems to have a more full sound to it, not only does it have some ethereal touch to it, but it's also grounded in the foreground, not just something to be put on in the background. It also seems to flow more smoothly than your original, and if I'm not mistaken, you changed the samples you were using to ones of much higher quality, giving it a much better sound.

Certain parts I like are around 2:10 the enya-ish part, IMO. I also liked parts similar to around 3:00, it sounds really nice there, I can't really tell you why, but I just think it sounds really good, probably because nothing seems forced, it all flows really smoothly and soothingly, sorta like Enya. Also, I LOVED the beginning, it reminds me sort of LUNAR (When Alex trie to get Luna back from the pedestal thing once she's turned into Althena, you know what I'm talking about, from one LUNAR fan to another) and it's really awesome what you did with it compared to the original's beginning, man.... Seriously, I'm amazed at how much you've improved, I mean, I know you've been steadily getting better, but I didn't know how much better you were till I compared both of them, then I was like, "HOLY SHIT! This is WAY better!" I'd have to say that Reason is doing you justice Gray. Even though you think it took you a long time to do, you did a great job on this, I won't cease to be impressed for a long, long time (probably till your next mix is released as a WIP ). Maybe you should teach me a few of your tricks so I can finally make one of my WIPs worthy to post on the OCR forums.

Woo, more GL stuff.

Intro is almost angelic, sounds like Enya but feels like it's rising to something bigger. The opening beat at 0:19 is interesting, as are the chimes that soon follow. I like the strings at 0:24, very cinematic and strong. Percussion shifts well at 0:34, setting the tone for a new section.

This next section bounces around a lot, very interesting once your ears get used to it. The bassline is alright, no real complaints. The rest of the song varies a bit but it's similiar to the first parts. I like the background vocals that return. The ending is a little sudden with that final hard drum beat. I might get used to that and like it as I listen to the song more often.

My main complaint is that tempo and volume often shift without much warning. It has a definite cinematic feel which shifts from soothing to strong and back. I like this the more I listen to it, definitely worth a download.

Yep, savin' the big review for VGMix, but for now...this is just ethereally warm and beautiful. I found the original in-game version of the song forgettable, but Gray Lightning changes that. I strongly agree with freemind--there's obviously a lot of imagination in this mix, and GL's stuff tends to have the effect of triggering your own imagination, sending you soaring across luscious landscapes...great work as usual. Kudos, GL!

Gray and I didn't see eye-to-eye on the very last chord. Obviously, he was of the mindset that what you heard was the most fitting ending, while I fancied something a bit louder or resolute, with more emphasis in the lower register. I think this was the point of humorous discussion between the two of us for quite some time while he was reworking this piece.

I heard a lot going on in this piece while he took his second effort at it, listening to his work in progress at many points during the process. Some decisions he made were better than others. Gray and I also have a running debate on the prominence of natural law in various aspects of life--at least I can use this mix as sort of tongue-in-cheek backup for my argument that his natural refining process yielded the best of possible works he was to come up with.

Like I noted in my comments in the WIP thread, one of the simplest yet most effective changes he made was to shift the bassline down an octave. I felt it added presence and afforded the mix some of the richness that Gray is known to have in regular abundance in his work. Percussion rolls off nicer than it did in his original. Better use of the strings and pads to create depth. And high praises for summarily ignoring any of that ill-wrought advice concerning the harp glissando in the wrong key.

I can't think of anything better to say than Freemind's last comment, so I will echo it. I think I've learned from him, too--not just about the genre he's chosen to explore, and what his influences are, but how to think a bit more critically about what I write. So, Mr. Gray.. keep it sublime, keep it mercurial so we can continue to learn and benefit at the expense of your hard work! :D
