Remixing programs?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what programs are you guys using to alter mp3s? What programs are you using to create remixes and witch do you think is the best one? Im looking into trying to remix some songs of my own and would like to know. Thanks in advance! :)

The remixes on this site aren't made by altering mp3s, they're made from scratch in a music program. Here's a page which tells you who uses what programs:

http://www.ocremix.org/workshop/skill/fruityloops

The names of the main few programs people use are on the left. Click it and you can see who uses what. MOST people on ocr use either fruityloops or reason.

Its really way too broad to tell you "how" to do it as everyone makes music their own way. Try downloading the demo's for those programs and have a fiddle about if you want to see (the basics of) how its done.

edit: hrm... my internet must be failing, said there was no replies, ah well :P.

I use Paulstretch.

It turns this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75pjo9ReXCg (Bob James - Take Me To the Mardi Gras)

into this: http://theheartcore.com/music/paulstretch_mardigras.mp3

Yeahh, this one is awesome.

Last year I had totally forgotten about my mum's bday until the day before, and Paulstretch saved my ass. She's into ambient music, and I managed to make a nice gloomy ambient album with it by making a couple crappy happy hardcore loops and sending them through it. Took about an hour, lol.

I'd try Reason first - it's actually pretty hard to do anything wrong with it, and it has a pretty good tutorial on http://reasontutorial.be

Furthermore, if you like this enough to continue with, be prepared to ruthlessly slaughter your piggy bank.

The Paulstretch suggestion was more of a joke. Imagine a song as a cake - it's really hard to extract the original ingredients from, so it's far more useful to just start over again.
