Default OCR00365 - Moon Patrol 'Mare Crisium'

Moon Patrol 'Mare Crisium'

A fun minimal little dance tune. Not a lot of complex stuff going on. Only major gripe is the usage of vocal samples. 2/5

Only two reviews?!...

Haven't played the game, but-

The way this tune constantly switches between the happier electronic tweeting and vocal samples, and the dark pad and flanged bass gives it a dualism that I really like. The beginning has some fun stereo tricks going on that you'll need headphones to appreciate. Groovy stuff dude.

I really like the drums in this one, though I wish the talking samples would be cut. Nothing ruins a mix faster, IMO, not even synth distorted guitar. :(

I'm gonna have to disagree with some of the reviewers that were dissing the vocal samples. I love it when there's vocal samples in a mix, even if they don't fit. However, I feel that these samples do fit within the context of the mix. It has a very hectic feel, and while it definitely wouldn't pass the judges panel today, it's just a very fun mix to listen to, and it also goes to show how far Steve Pordon has come along in terms of mixing.

Oh, and big props for sampling Earthworm Jim at the end of the song.

Vocal samples rarely work for me, though they're alright here. They fit the mix, they fit the game, I'm OK with them.

I like when the bass comes in around 1:20, it's a step toward something else, and progresses the mix. Unfortunately, it didn't step as far as I was hoping. I could really see more coming out of this mix in terms of a direction.

For an older mix on the site it's alright, but I doubt it would be passing today's standards.

There's definitely drive in this one.. I like the simplicity of the main melody/synth sequence and the beat, it goes far on the power of those. I like the minimalistic variations.

The vocal samples aren't that bad, they don't overpower the track and are pretty fitting.. but I can't say I really liked them either. I don't like the 01:20 bassline at all. It doesn't fit into the track. This piece could progress much better and much more could be done with the "minimalistic" elements.

It's an interesting remix. The vocal samples really add flavor and setting and make it unique.
The remix is somewhat repetitive, but it just feels appropriate somehow for background music of the lunar surface.

If you like to read/study while listening to music though, I wouldn't recommend this remix though; the vocals would be too distracting.

"Whadda ya mean invalid parameters?!? 9000 gigs of ram, and it can't answer a simple question."
That made me lol

Ook, pretty typical of its era. It sounds very similar to the original with some added drums and lots of samples (which didn't do much for me). I did like some of the new synth textures in this, and some of the change-ups weren't bad.

I lol'd when I heard "thank you for pressing the self-destruct button!" Normally I don't like the arbitrary sci-fi quotes in such music, but the ones you picked for this mix are different in a good way. Kind of drags for the last minute or so, up until "9000 GIGS OF RAM!!!!!" (WHAT, 9000!?!). Good job!
