Stormlord 'Elven Tears'
This mix comes up a lot in my playlist rotation and I often skip it. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t like it. It’s actually quite good. Happy, dance-y tune. When the second melody comes in around the middle (~2:50) it sounds really cool, but it quickly goes away in favour of a trumpet (of which I am not a fan of personally). At ~4:10 there is a solo of some sort of bass instrument, I believe, that I really enjoyed. Altogether, this is a good solid mix, nothing jaw-dropping, but enjoyable nonetheless. 3/5

That second melody coming in mentioned sounds so cool and catchy. The organ man!!! It's so cool! Everyone should listen to this song once. Not something I would listen to constantly, as Rob has said.
hehehe Rob....Rob the Helpless Good to listen to the old OC tunes once in awhile. I'm not one for musicality, so I can just say it sounds good. Maybe one day in the distant future I will learn eveerrryyyyttthhhhiiiinnnngggg. |

Hi, I don't think anyone will ever read this, but I'll post this anyway. my Stormlord remix is based on the title-tune which was on my copy of Stormlord.. Funny enough all .adf files on the net noiwadays have the Jochen Hippel Tune (which I don't like as much) The version I used was also in the C64 version of Stormlord and revamped by someone as an amiga mod. This remix was definitely more work than it was worth. The baseline is ultra-difficult, and I had to sample parts of the song and replay them at a lower pitch. During this playback I played the melody live and then used quantize. I had to do this for all the voices. In retrospect the choice of instruments is rather boring... (But that was due to the fact that The SL Remix together with my BloddMoney remix and 3 other remixes was done in 5 days only) I recorded a better version for private use, but I don't think I'll submit it. I don't know why DJP called this remix "Introquest"... The title I gave this tune was "Eleven Tears": in the Intro of the game you saw an animated face of an elf, happy at first, but then (when the drums / organ part starts) the screen gets dark and moody and the elf begins to cry handpainted-animation tears. I always liked the sad, but also uplifting elements of the tune. Well, I just thought I'd share this with all of you

The tone of the arrangement here's not a favorite of mine considering how much I liked the original tune. Wish the percussion patterns were more interesting and that all of the instruments were more powerful, but as Alex mentioned way back, he felt the sounds he used were lackluster anyway, so it's a moot issue. Also wish this theme got some more coverage in the community, even just in the C64 arrangement community. |

I actually meant "ELEVEN TEARS" as in ten, eleven, twelve. It's kind of a word-play thingy, as in the title screen an elf drops tear after tear... the number is arbitrary though.
If you like, also check out my second take on the song, done with emu Proteus 2 instruments on www.amigaremix.com (where I use "mythoslogos" as user name) |
