Is there a program out there where you can create music or sound bits like the ones in NES games, with the 8-bit sound and what-not? Thanks.

Yes, there's at least 2, and perhaps more. There's Nerd Tracker 2, which is written in DOS, and then there's FamiTracker. I suggest you check out http://www.nullsleep.com/utilities.php to see some very useful utilities for both GB and NES music creation. I haven't used any of those tools myself, but I've heard the results of people who have. They've made some really cool chip tunes with those programs! Hope that helps. Mouser X out.

I made a thread about Craptracker II a few days ago :)

It's completely online though, however there is an URL provided for sharing.

There's no reason to use a tracker when you can just plonk in these VST instruments in any sequencer that can handle 'm...

Unless you want to write .nsf files, and better control over the sounds.

Though I am unsure how far he wants to go with this. I've had people ask me this before, though it turned out they just wanted the mario coin sound or whatever for their average 3-chord rock band. I guess peach and toad are fine for that sort of thing.

Well, my aim was to make like whole songs using one of these programs and stuff. I've been messing around with Famitracker and that's working decently, so I think I've found what I'm looking for, although I didn't know there was such a community for original NES music.

the chiptune community is... well I dunno about large, but there are a few standout artists, a lot from Japan, they probably hang out on 2chan.

http://www.tweakbench.com/ > Peach, Toad, Triforce.
They are crappy sample-based plugins made with SynthEdit which kind of sucks.

Oh, and europeans own the chip scene.
