Where to start?

So, i've been inspired to remix from listening to some of the submitted tracks and i was wondering if fruity loops was a good place to start.

I started with that, but you need to come to understand music as well. I kind of learned both side by side but others will say you need to know how to read/play before you can write, which is a reasonable path.

All I can say with certainty is: experiment endlessly, have the will to learn and the ability to handle criticisms.

well, music has been a part of my life for as long as i can remember, but i can't write or read music.

what i CAN do though, is listen to a song a recreate it using FL
i once did it for "Saria's Song" from Ocarina of time.

"I kind of learned both side by side", what do you mean by this?

What I meant by side-by-side was I was inspired to create music by other members of OC ReMix, I got FruityLoops since... Well, I dunno. But I had fun just making blocks of shit because it sounded cool. At the same time though I learned how to play the piano, which helped me analyze more deeply how songs should sound, though it still took maybe 2 years to go from 0 musical experience to... well, I didn't totally suck by then
