Default OCR00809 - Luigi's Mansion 'That Balcony Thing'

Luigi's Mansion 'That Balcony Thing'

I gotta admit... I have never played this game. I don't even own a gamecube. :( But what I'm hearing here makes me want to play it. Bad.

This is well produced and thought out in all aspects - well, almost all aspects. That grainy lead really doesn't sit well with me for some reason, but it fits with the freaky tone of the mix.

Methinks this one should have been held back for a special Halloween post or something. I'm definitely gonna be playing it then, and hopping none of those trick-or-treaters have played Luigi's Mansion... :)

I'm listening.... I'm liking. Okay, I wasn't sure if DJP was just gushing but no, this is definetly good stuff. DJ Carbunkle made a strong entrance with Suffering Planet and this mix is arguably even better. It has a strong mood to it, is well mixed, has nice instrumentation in does a good job of expanding on really limited source material. One of the things I like a lot about the mix is the use of pads and bass. It never feels hollow or empty (unlike many mixes I listened to today.) The song oozes drama and is quite easy to appreciate. He did this with the balcony theme? Impressive. Major kudos!

5 Stars

Per's OCR Star System:
5-One of my favorites.
4- I'll listen to it a fair amount but it lacks that extra "something" to be great.
3- Above average but not enough so to get much playtime in my list.
2- Average
1- Lacking

Really neat remix, I agree with DJP...with just about everything he said, and put better than I, but I had to post and say that I liked this remix a lot...one of the best new ones on this site right now...I think that that eerie feel is hard to get across...and you did just great, makes me want to play that game...I'll keep downloading your stuff *_*

Well, I heard this one kinda earlier on, but I still like it, as much as I thought the game itself was kinda boring. You'd think alcohol would make you more prone to like the game too. Anyways, I love this scary type music. My fav part is around 2:30 where it just gets really devious. My only gripe would be that lead synth being slightly detuned.

I must be honest. The first time I heard it, I was skeptical. But then I listened to it a few more times and it grew on me, and now I think it's a great mix. It would have been fun if DJ Carbunkle added one or two sound bits of Luigi calling out for Mario, but that would have just been icing on the cake. :D

This is probably one of my favorite songs I've done out of all the submitted/unsubmitted work that I have. I just really enjoyed making it. I'm glad that it turned out successful!

God. Damn. Pretzel broke it down piece by piece already, so there's no need to go into the nitty-gritty of the technical aspects - I'll just gush some more. This mix is brooding, dark, and ethereal. Flat out, it's EVIL, and I love it. I think what makes it stand out most, though, is it's departure from the source material. Luigi's Mansion is evil too, but in a very fun and playful way; there's really nothing scary about a ghost that looks like a casting call reject from Ghostbusters. What Carbunk1e does with the tune turns it into something far more menacing than the original, and with technical and musical prowess that make it flat out addictive. Loveitloveitloveit. I can't believe I actually considered NOT putting this on the last OC Mix CD I burned. What a fool I was. I say this in the most complimentary, non-gay way imaginable: Carbunk1e, I love you, man.

I'm not much on describing the little aspects of songs that make them grand, I can only think of one word right now... Tasty!

But seriously, its an awesome way to start the Gamecube selection of music here, ohh and orky, go out and buy a GCN, its as amazing as this song is ^_^

SWEET! I've got a lot to say on this one. Like was said before, Luigi's Mansion was quite evil, but playfully - this sounds truly evil. Though not the most awesomest or favoritest song on this site I've come across, it might very well be the coolest. My favorite thing in any song is attention to detail and small innovations that add subtle marks, and this song is totally loaded.

Good, tasteful use of that synth that is so overused in techno songs (and even those arpeggios normally so *ugh*); put to a fresh use. The modified top hat sample that you hear right in the beginning is sweet stuff. At around 1:30 there's that child-like thing that's not quite a xylophone - really evil :D Then you've got those gastric thingies at around 1:50 - REALLY EVIL :D And at the ending there, with the piano playing as the rest fades out, you've got that discordant sharp note tossed in... OOO! Too cool, too cool...

I actually had a lot of fun playing Luigi's Mansion. The controls are difficult at first, but make for some smooth playing. It's also fun to watch Luigi panic all the time, shakin' his knees, whimpering, nervously humming along with the music :)
