Default OCR00863 - Chrono Trigger 'Memories Lost in Time'

Chrono Trigger 'Memories Lost in Time'

Yay, more Schala, you're probably thinking. Really, it's just as worth of a listen as the other Schala ReMixes out there. The orchestral work is quite exceptional - Beautiful strings, piano, and some winds. Plus, some nice chromatic percussion work is also shown. It blends all quite nicely with the underlying (yet repetitive) percussion. The ride cymbal that continues throughout the bulk of the mix gets on my nerves. I'd rather it not be there ^^ On the other hand, at the end, there is some greatly done percussion work. Though, overall, I found the orchestral instrumentation is worth it all.

I am so glad this made OCR. GrayLightning helped me out a lot back in the day on VGMix (hiss) when I was struggling as a remixer. Wait, I still am. I remember first hearing this song and just being blown away by the sheer calmness of the piece. It's one of those chill songs, where you can just listen to it over and over again and relax, a la McVaffe and The Wingless. Do I mean to compare a newcomer to OCR to these well-established remixers? Not at all. With GL's potential, and from what I've heard, he's only getting better, and he's getting better quickly. Glad to see this song back up on a site. Comes highly recommended by me.

I've not heard the entire population of Schala mixes out there, but I've certainly heard more than several....after awhile, when I start to notice the same song being remade over and over again, I stop clicking on it.

If you're already here perusing reviews to weigh your download options, hesitate no longer. It really is quite beautiful, and even though there ARE those tons of aforementioned mixes out there, it doesnt mean they're all as good as this one. Some thoughtful swimming outside of the song's original pool, and an undeniable remixer presence. I know for a fact that Gray has and CAN do better, but this is among his top tier works. Watch out for this guy, people, he's moving fast.

Great to see the song at OCR, Gray, keep up the nice work.

Like I've said before it's aboOt bloody damm time this song made the rounds at OverClocked Remix. I had the great priveledge of hearing this song a while back and was utterly blown away by it.. So surreal, peaceful and emotional.. To me it's definitely one of the top tier mixes of all the mix sights out there!

Be forewarned though, just like Konega said, Graylightning is moving up fast in the remixin/arrangin world and will drop ya on yer azz wit hiz mixin skillz if he hasn't already done so!!!!

What the-- there's like not even a dozen mixes, what do people have up their butts? Given the number of total mixes on the site, there AREN'T that many. So yes, I'd say this is a nice new variation on a song that I would *gasp* LIKE to hear more of. MUCH MORE!!!!

I don't think any mix manages to capture that early 90's new age sound as well as this one. The pads, harmonies and even the synth drums all fit perfectly with the style being used - this could have easily been a track on Arkenstone's "Valley in the Clouds" release. The sound is really that authentic.

GL never believes me when I say this, but I honestly think this is the best Schala mix I've heard. This version just seems to have more depth and emotion than the other mixes- I can easily get lost in the world presented by this piece.

There are things one might want to change. The ever-present cymbal might have been softer and I would have liked a bit longer track so as to let the atmosphere really sink in, but these things don't alter the fact that this is a really great mix.

Everyone should at least give this a try, but fans of new age in particular are in for a real treat.

I'm pleasantly surprised this finally made it to OC and got positive comments all around from the judges, given their high standards. Thanks as well to those who took time to review this one, it is very much appreciated. :D

Excellent work by Gray here.. Im a fan of the slow mellow pace this puts off, its really nice to simply relax too.. also, the tones were chosen carefully, and you can tell, with each chord brings a subtle new change, some lighter, some darker, i really like that. the drumbeat flows, slowly, very slowly, right along with the song, which i like. Deffinately a keeper, especially for a fan of CT because Schala's elements are embedded so well. Beautiful.

AAAHhhh. Chill and atmospheric. This is done very well and very professionally. Great samples used for the instruments and great arrangement. I'm having trouble saying anything else about this other than that there is nothing bad about this mix. This is great ambient stuff done really well that makes me feel like I'm someplace else. Great work! Lookin forward to more!

Default Very good

I enjoy this mix very much - it's not a loud or fast song as the original song wasn't either, so IMO it's a good song to relax.
I was especially impressed by the nice creation of the drums and the improved quality of the instruments and of the song in general.

Very well done! :D
