Yie Ar Kung-Fu

This is really quite a beautiful track. The ReMixer, Rimco, informs me that the original soundtrack was based off music by Jean-Michelle Jarre. This is so entrancing, so atmospheric, it really sounds like it should be film music and not from a an old C64 game, even if that game was a classic. This piece reminds me of the movie "Dragon" which if you haven't seen you should - it's great, and has a similarly great soundtrack. This ain't techno folks, and it ain't jungle or really even orchestral either. But it's beautiful.

Very interesting track for Rimco's first remix. It has both a simple sounds, but also a lush sound at the same time. Very Chariot's of Fire for me :)! The rhythmic synth helps keep it moving along really well with the piano hammering out the low notes to really simulate bass. However, make no mistake, a bass is in there, but it sounds good having it layered. For a mix that was done over 9 years ago, this is incredible! Inspirational sound. The ending is a little repetitive for me, but that's not a huge complaints. The final chord sounds really nice. Wonderful work from Rimco right off the bat!

As I listen to this, I imagine naturally falling objects like autumn leaves, snow, cherry blossoms, and even bird feathers. Likewise, notes in this mix tend to drift softly down the scale. The string samples sure do strengthen the rapport between the music and the imagery it invites.
I love the melodic interpretation beginning at 2:39; it's a refreshing energy boost that keeps the mood intact. Then after the lead drops off, the mix ends itself smoothly and naturally.
And that's what it means to be beautiful.

Funny that this was thrown together in a hour (according to rimco) as this is my fav overclocked remix thus far, and I have heard a bloody large amount.
Its a real shame rimco didn't post more remixes, I reckon he could have even given Mcvaffe a run for his money.
Not to mention this is 8 years old.
Absolutely fantastic.
Nothing more to say.

I have never heard of this game before, but I instantly recognized the track; I think i've probably had this mix on my playlist for a long long time. It has a beautiful melody, and has a similar feel to Uematsu's solo album he put out about a decade ago, with some strong new age elements and an oboe.
Though the arrangement itself is simplistic, it has a lot going for it, with a driving rhythm in the clavinetichord or whatever it is, and some great pads.
This is definitely a mix you can loop for a long time and be relaxed and energized at the same time. The oboe solo sound is pretty clearly synthetic, but it works very well with the setting.
A very good and very overlooked mix. Check it out.

After a little more than 5 years since this was first posted (and I'd say about 4 years after I first downloaded it (I missed the 1st year of OCR!) it's still one of my favorite songs of all time!!!
It's up there with Cristalline Caverns from McVaffe and some others in my iTune 25 most played songs (yes even against all the "real" songs!) after all! Yeah... this song really makes me feels all mellow and peaceful inside.... I love it...! And one thing that struck me was how good it sounds! Compared to the other old remix, it sounds very good! It sound like any mixes made since the last 2-3 years... great samples etc...
This song will forever be in my heart!
I hope the remixer still remember OCR and this song..! I'd like to thank him for making such a nice remix!

Hmm... I can't remember if I ever played this game or not, but I love the song! Absolutely beautiful. ^_^
So why am I downloading a song if I don't even recognize the title? Well, it was mentioned that this probably wasn't receiving as much attention as it should, so I figured what the hey, since I was planning to see how the song for Doom turned out. This was definitely worth listening to. ^_^ Good job.

Ahhhhhhh.... I haven't played Yie Ar Kung Fu for like 10 years!!! Man, this brings back some great Commodore 64 memories with my sister and cousins. Wow! :D
I didn't even know the song was originally made by someone else, this is cool information.

it's from his "Magnetic Fields" album, it's the fourth track.
(there's a pun in french btw, it's "Chants Magnetiques", which means both "Magnetic Songs" and "Magnetic Fields" ;-)

Hmm, it seems this remix is titled "Mists of Yie-Ar now. Interesting, or something. Oh well, this song is still awesome, and is unfortunately void of comments. I owe it to Rimco to give a few words about this wonderful song.
This song is wonderful. It seriously kicks me in the nuts every time I listen to it. And since it's a remix of Yie-Ar Kung Fu, it's definitely some sort of Karate kick to the nuts. Ouch.
Great song.

I love how Jivemaster and even Pretzel himself drooled over this song in the day... this song was totally a thrown-together-in-an-hour effort. I'm glad you liked it though... from time to time, I go back and tinker with it trying to make it better, so maybe soon you'll see v2.0 or something, hehe. Thanks for all the kind words... makes me feel special. :P

If anyone is interested, this is indeed a Jean-Michel Jarre tune; it is called Les Chants Magnétiques 4 (Magnetic Fields Part 4), and can be found on the Chants Magnétiques (Magnetic Fields) album, released in 1984. It's cool remixed this way. :P
