HYPNOTIZING is probably the perfect word to describe mutagene's encompassing ReMix of the amiga classic Shadow of the Beast. mutagene correctly points out that some of the other tracks on this Site going by the name of 'dub' don't really qualify as dub. Including my own ecco ReMix. It's a fairly loose genre, but I'll definitely agree that this excellent, sonically rich ReMix sounds more like what i've heard called dub than anything else here. Currently in Japan, mutagene has a great setup with some good pro gear including a Yamaha A3000 sampler - a nice piece. I suggest checking out his site and other work, and DEFINITELY downloading this addictive sonic landscape. I've listened to it all night :)

It also has some very neat sections going. The bass drum is contrasting against the little synth sounds, the straight drum loop keeps the tempo going, and the miscellaneous percussion provides nice background. All of it flowing aroud this kind of eerie background melody that sinks into the skull real nice.

Nothing really happens in the track, which isn't bad, but I would have preferred some movement. I'm a melody fan, so it's a given that I have to say that.
Overall, it's some nice work, and so far the best I've heard of mutagene.

Anything you could want from a ambient track and more, this one really brings the goods. Each element of this, whether it be the drums, pads, or synth melody line has a nice sheen of polish, and each has been perfectly reverbed, creating a super spacious sound.
This sounds especially good on headphones. Recommended. :D

No no...this is SotB1...its just the amiga version, which had a more simplistic and all round weaker soundtrack to the C64 and Genesis versions.
While the c64/genesis soundtrack was heavilly based on melody, the amiga/cpc versions were more kinda...ambient white noise, kinda soundtracks.
I recognise it, certainly...and I quite like it.
Being very minimalist I cant really give much on it...though I can say Im not too keen on the crackling that you have before and after the music...no, I dont like that at all, sorry :(
You cant really dance to it...and I also find that you cant especially sit down and listen to it like you can with some other tracks. Study music is what this is...that or something to be used in a haunted house (I swear Ive heard something like this played in alton towers)

The work behind this piece shows, of that there is no question. But, I don't recognize... anything, of any songs from the original game here. I' m wondering if maybe this song from from SotB II, as there is a song in that game that I could see this being a remix of (namely, the beginning sections of the title screen song). But, that may just be my inability to recognize the original song in this remix.
I also didn't find the style to my liking. I just couldn't get into the song as nothing really gave me the feeling that this song was moving forward and developing. Again, it's not from the lack of work on this song as it definitely reflects a lot time being taken to make it. It just didn't strike a chord with me... no pun intended :(

Beautiful. Trippy. Magic. Cutoff tweaking, reverb wetting, grainy floating
synths and drum lines wander around inside your skull. Probably one of
my all time favorite mutagene tracks.
