This has been on my list for soooooo damn long! This was refreshing for me, as my last couple tracks have been layered, loop-based techno, which is always fun, but you need a break from it too. This is techno-funk, straight-up, with a phase-chorused drum track that's loop free, a biting, distorted acid bass layered on top of a sub and sometimes extending up a register, and some subtle but valuable pads. I paid a bit more attention to mastering this time, and the result is something that sounds quite different, has very precise and intentional stereo layout, and a nice dynamic range thanks to BBE's recently released Sonic Maximizer for DirectX. Revenge of Shinobi was Yuzo at the height of his powers, and this track in particular always killed me. Get the ReMix, get the ROM, play the game, feel the magic, yadda yadda ^^
The idea seems interesting enough. The thing that seems to be holding this back though is that it is just too short. It sounds more like a WIP to me than a completed mix!

So glad you mentioned this, I thought I was going crazy looking through my computer for this song.
The song does have a groove and the flanged percussion is... yeah... I just don't like it. I dunno, it doesn't seem like it goes anywhere, and the sounds used overall don't really do anything to help it for me. *shrug* I guess that's just personal taste though. It still has the djp shine and attention to detail that I come to expect though, so definite points for that. If you are into this style you will like it for sure... I think.

Pretzel-ish groove, some cool FX and good sound quality. Gold way back, decent now. Flanged drums are flaaaanged

So yes, love the perc. Definately the right choice for this mix, and it definately drives the music. The mix is short but sweet although, as I've been complaining about in a couple other mixes, I feel like there's a lack of melody or real movement. It's ok, though, since the mix still has a nice groove.

Sound quality is fantastic, and the beat is totally strut-worthy. If i was, say, 10% cooler, I'd strut to this, but since i'm not, it'll have to remain a beautiful dream.

definitely reminiscent of standards past, yet this is a fun tune to listen to. It serves as a good example (when comparing to his later stuff) at David's own progress as a musician and arrranger.
This was posted over six years ago, and I only wish I could have done anything half this good that long ago.
This one's got pep. No, download it, have a listen, and do a barrel roll, kids!

It sounds very professional and is great to listen to. Must have been a lot of work. 2 thumbs up, DJ Pretzel!
Everybody, check it out! :D

Don’t like the way this one starts out at first. But after listening for a while you get used to it and it gets pretty good. Sort of repetitive towards the end though. Glad it’s a shorter tune, any longer would just get boring. 3/5
