The Guardian Legend

A decent first submission from Ryu7x of Guardian Legend. As the name suggests, this track is very clean, and is decidedly dominated by its bassline, which uses a nice stereo patch that's strong enough to tie things together. Melody is covered by piano and bell pads, which could have used some reverb - this would be my one big criticism - and the drums are house / 808 style, with a nice, deep kick. This is the first ReMix to be posted after review by a newly implemented Judges panel. Some of their comments included questions about the abrupt ending, which was apparently intentional (didn't bother me too much), compliments on the bassline, which is certainly the highlight and focal point of the track's construction, and suggestions on doing more chord work so the track was more fleshed out. A solid effort and a good initial mix, there's definitely arranging skills happening and the track's worth grabbing simply because of its foundation. If Ryu7x pairs this type of mixing with some improved effects and a little more layered arranging, it'll be beautiful.

I'm a huge fan of the original game - unfortunately, I disliked this song on first listen when I listened to it back in 2002. Samples really kill this, and this sounds like a cheap midi rip of the original with a crappy beat layered over it. It really doesn't do the original justice at all.

Repeating others. This doesn't hold up well to time, but there is a foundation here that could be used to bring the mix much further than it is. Samples really drag things down here.
The ending is ridiculously ubrupt. I actually had to stop for a second and process that it ended. Overall not too interesting for me, but it would be promising with updated sounds and overall be more fleshed out.

Some pretty melodic interpretation near the 2/3 mark, but the samples drag it down, and the ending is really bad.
I am really sad VGmix is down at the moment because i'd love to hear a revisitation. Hopefully when the site is back up i'll have the chance.

I agree with you Liontamer, It is definently the weakest link in my collection. As my favorite game, composer, and song from the title, I created Liquid Corridor [ReBirth] Edition!
You can find it here as with most of my latest works:

I don't know if I would submit it as I have nothing to gain from doing so.

Just checking out some of the stuff that hasn't been peeped here in a while. This one doesn't really hold up well, though for the time, it at least had a decent amount of gradual development. Everything's defaulty, and there's nothing in the way of texture.
Certainly not a knock against Mike, as he had some much better material posted later on like "Influence of Koholint", but as the very first remix passed by the judges panel, you can see that OCR's come a long way, as this mix would be an instant rejection nowadays.

Liquid Corridor Revival Coming Soon...

Typically, with a great song like this from a great game like Guardian Legend, you don't think it can get any better. But this mix sounds great, a little Nintendoish, but more so. It is nice and technoy. I love it... If only I could download it... but we don't have the net at home, and the school doesn't give you enough space. Great mix, though, and I hope there's more coming...

I really liked this one. It's pretty simple, and not too long. Just short and sweet.

Wow, This one touched me. I love it, Absolutely love it. One of the best Remixes I've heard so far off of this site. Actually, I was messing around on my computer and even went as far as splitting clips from Final Fantasy 7/8 To make a music Video out of it, Ha Ha Ha, Way to go Ryu7x, I hope there are more like this coming soon!

I like this mix, but it's nothing exceptional or extraordinary. Just a nice, solid, clean mix. Good techno beat with a piano that joins in later, and a nice melody. No sections stand out too much, but I like the way that instruments seem to disappear near the end, especially because you don't even notice at first, except that the mix suddenly seemed a little emptier than before. It seems to go by really fast for a two-minute mix; I would have thought it was just a minute or one and a half if I hadn't looked at my Winamp window.

NOTE: Some of you may have noticed: I have recently been trying to review all songs that do not have more than 1 reply to the original review. There are a few newer songs with tons of replies, and more than 4 pages of songs with just the initial review! You guys should help out and say whatcha got to say about all those remixes back there that are nearly forgotten.

Guardian Legend 'Liquid Corridor Clean Mix'
Hmmm... at least this mix is very clean! But there's plenty I don't like here. The beatdrop is overused and about twice as loud as it needs to be. The samples sound like ass (or GM, whichever way you want to think of it! :D ). I gotta compliment Ryu7x on his sense of song structure here - the timing on everything seems just right, and it's hardly easy to get bored with this one. So I would say it's a fun tune, but no big loss if you skip over it.
