Sonic the Hedgehog 3

"You got your Canada in my trance!" "No, you got your trance in my Canada!" - newcomer Trance-Canada provides just that - Canadian trance - in this initial submission of the IceCap theme from Sonic 3. This is a popular song, covered by McVaffe as well as Rayza in the past. This is a more direct genre adaptation than either of those (excellent) pieces - nothing wrong, all the parts are in the right place and fit together, but not many risks. Then again, this is trance, a genre some might argue is not conducive to much risk. Regardless, you've got a four-on-the-floor beat, pulsating filtered chords, a snippy slapish bass with very quick release (probably my favorite sound in the mix) and some bell and standard synths. The filter mod is what carries the piece and prevents it from potentially being too flat. A good, solid first effort from Trance-Canada - nothing to get too excited about, as there's room for growth (in particular, some layered breakbeats or more drum programming in general, and better use of effects), but a good techno reconstruction of a classic theme nonetheless. Suggest listening to Rayza and McVaffe's versions first if you have not already - both are are a bit crisper and have more variety, but all three are worthy. Hope to see more from Trance-Canada in the future.

Pretty generic electronic quasi-trance. Some of the pads are pretty lo-fi, causing this to be less effective due to it's simplicity. If the sounds themselves were richer I think it would have kept my attention better.
There's some decent counterpoint going on, but it doesn't really add any color to the song, only texture.
The beat is total autopilot, and the bass is wimpy.
Sorry, I'm not really a fan of this one. The only thing keeping it going is the fact that it is Icecap.

Only POSSIBLE downer is that it's TOO close to the original.
HOWEVER, I like this because the patches/percussion/samples are crisper and cleaner than the original. This is probably how the guys at SEGA wanted the track to sound, but couldn't do it because the Genesis sound hardware sucked ass. Still, for Sonic, they did better than most other games.
Good work.

I definately prefer to see a remixer keep the original theme/feeling from the source music instead of throwing in a bass line and tweeters. Needs more work.

:D Great Job
This is what I like to see
Remixes that keep the rythem of the Music and that don't bend the clock speed to make it easy for them to remix.
10/10

um no ! Sonic 3 is cool. I doubt that the original music is not that good. Overall the music in Sonic 3 is good..E.g(Knuckles theme, act 1 boss, ice cap, Marble garden,,, etc>

It's good but it isn't a remix which you can hear a long time non-stop.
7/10 (1=worst; 10=best)

While it's a great song, the arrangement and structure are incredible, it lacks a bit in terms of atmosphere. Proffesional Trance songs usually make use of a lot of reverb, something this piece seems to lack. I'm sure however, that it would sound much better played in a club or open setting than through a pair of headphones. It was mentioned some of the sounds are "cute". Not really a bad description, since this song comes from Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm sure it's far better than the original, and even captures the mood of the original song. It's still very fun to listen to, however. Lots of variation on the drums are used to keep the piece moving. The arrangement is extra-ordinary. The samples are very good also. However, maybe next time some extra effects can be added to give that extra touch of realism.
Great job!!
8.4/10 :)

Very true to the original, yet different. Very good work, especially considering it's by a new author. Keep up the good job.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Ice Attack'
This is some solid trance here, people. Though I don't have time to rant about the merits of it, I'll just say that it's really enjoyable. That is, if you like trance, but from past experience of the general population at OC that really shouldn't be a problem. ^^ Me likes
