EgM's initial and formerly sole submission, with Kaijin's assistance, was all the way back in June of 2001 with a nice Ninja Gaiden 2 ReMix. So it's been awhile, but EgM, aka Eric E. Hache, is back with another OC ReMix submission, this time with some 6/8 acoustic-guitar based Final Fantasy 7 work that I think quite a few Squareheads and others as well will enjoy. It features Eric himself on guitar, bass, and alto recorder, and has a very deep, rich sound to it right from the outset. Mixing is spot on; you can hear individual fret noises but there's no hiss or hum and the stereo imaging is fantastic. Kaijin's a good friend of Eric, and maintains this is some of the best acoustic guitar work within the scene thus far, rivaling that of various commercial products as well, and I'd tend to agree - if you've been waiting for an FF7 arrangement that doesn't just include acoustic guitar, but emphasizes it and clearly gives the instrument the spotlight, this is your baby. The bass sits unobstrusively but warmly at the bottom, giving a solid foundation to the acoustic, whilst backing strings rise and fall with emotional dynamics and intonation. About a minute in, there's also some appropriate and authentic percussion that again adds to the mix without taking away from the acoustic guitar - I think that's the real success story here, that every element Eric adds to the arrangement augments the primary instrument without detracting from it in the slightest. Can't believe it - we're not even one month into 2003 and already we're seeing some really great, different, memorable ReMixes. I like it. This is very mellow stuff - conjures less images of fireworks to me and more a peaceful day in the park, sitting on the bench in mixed shade, partly cloudy, 74 degrees fahrenheit. Tangent there, but man is it cold these days. I look forward to Spring & Summer, when I can play this outdoors grilling something or just chilling with a martini. Be sure to check out Eric's website for more remixes and some originals as well. We're on a roll, here - recommended :)

Great stuff, EgM.

I honestly can't say it any better. This is an incredibly well produced and genuinely great track. Great job. :nicework:

I recently went to EgM's site, and was blown away by the caliber of talent that these two have. I listened to the other tracks they have, such as Final Fantasy Adventure's "Unknown" theme, and what can I say? It breathed such new life into it that I am just stunned. Excellent work. To hear quality work like this brings back the good memories of the game.
In a word: Superb.
