Following on his superb Sonic 3 & DKC2 mixes, Leandro Abreu continues to impress with this fantastic rock/folk/jazz Mega Man 6 arrangement that starts with titular mallets then blossoms out into a flourish of flute, guitar, and bass that offers a breath of fresh, figurative spring air to those of us still enduring a very literal winter. Compelling stuff with impeccable musicianship, as Leandro has shown before, but the focus on emotive feats of flautistry in this mix definitely give it a unique feel; WillRock writes:

"Oh man. This is awesome. Great production, GREAT instrumentation, love it. Like the others said, a little conservative at the start, but the solos and variation later on in the track more than make up for that. Yeah this is great."

Yeah it is! Larry had his stopwatch on hand for some play-by-play:

"The first 90 seconds were a well-personalized cover, IMO. I wouldn't pass a whole arrangement done this way, but everything after 1:28 with the integration of original writing with the original, followed by guitar and woodwind work on top of the base of the source from 2:09 until the end, made it an easy pass. The progression here was solid; it started close to the vest and steadily opened up as the level of interpretation grew."

My thoughts exactly; this mix plants a seed that grows quite nicely in its 3'12" runtime, and the exquisite detail of the multiple live instruments imbues each & every note with emotion and texture. My old Chrono Trigger mix from 2003 had some similar instrumentation, and I'd kill to hear it performed like this; samples can certainly get you a lot further these days, but not THIS far :) Fantastic stuff from Leandro - each new mix of his shows a new dimension, but the consistently excellent multi-instrumental perfomances are impossible to ignore.

This was a good mix. My only nitpick was that when the lower strings came in around 1:30, it sounded like someone vocalizing at first. Other than that, a very-well executed piece of music.

A sung song I wish lasted longer! I really started getting into it, and it was over :P

As someone who can really get behind mallets, marimbas and such, I actually liked the intro. It was a nice lead into the rest of the ReMix, kinda like taking an acoustic guitar and using that to lead into a heavier form of rock, if you know what I mean. The flute added a hell of a lot of character and I'm enjoying the overall production quality. Even being over three minutes, it left me wanting more in a good way. Awesome ReMix, man.

A touch more reverb on the mallets would have been icing, but overall this is super classy. I love the bass work especially. Very nice work!

This reminds me of The Lost Underworld song from EarthBound. Great stuff, I love mallets!

Too me the beginning of this song feels kinda children like honestly and it should have been taken out and replaced with what the rest of the song is.

Well then, maybe I wish he layered in a music box on full blast. :

Great job man. Fun live work, and that really brought the flute alive the most with the breaths you took.

I'm glad you had nothing to do with the song then. You can join Vig in the grandpa lane.

Lovely piece here, and I hope Leandro keeps 'em coming! His next mix in the pipeline is great!
